Wow, you have covered all of the topics that other teachers didn´t do for me during my teacher training. You make it all sound so fun and exciting. I learn a lot from you. Thank you!!
So happy to help! I don't know much about what other teachers leave out, but I definitely try to fill the gaps on the topics that I had to figure out on my own. Teaching to beginners being one of them. I took many workshops AFTER my YTT and saw what was good and what was not so good.
Thank you for this, I learned more from this one video than I did from my whole yoga teacher training on how to approach teaching beginners. I appreciate you and all that you’re sharing to help new yoga teachers 🙏
My very first teaching lesson today as a qualified yoga teacher. I am doing a cover 75min class and this is so useful. Thank you. Any tips on how to cover a longer class?
Wonderful. You're great Ashley. Not a lot of teachers are talking about how to teach the very first classes to people or teaching it to fit total beginner's needs. Usually what I see is a sort of modified basic class, but I think it's not enough for some people and it can be frustrating to them. Thank you for sharing this!!!
Ashley, thank you so much for so informative videos on this topic! I'm a yoga teacher from Russia and I was struggling to find this information on russian language. Thanks god I found you!
Thank you so much Ashley for this very down to earth video; you are so approachable, so relatable, and I love how all the advice you provide is very practical! Also, i specifically enjoyed the specific points you brought up about breath. My guru told me: "What makes the difference between a good Yoga teacher an an excellent Yoga teacher is how they incorporate breath as part of their practice"!
Hello Ashley, thank you for your advices...many good and useful informations . I just prepare my first class in kundalini yoga and would surely implement some oft it🙂 Lovely greetings.
thank you for these tips as they will help me with my first yoga class☺️ the introduction part seems a bit like school to me, I don’t want my students to feel like i’m putting them on the spot when they’re simply ready to flow. How can I keep my classes intriguing with little interaction from students but rather the teacher, if that makes sense.
great video - thanks for this. I am just about to begin teaching a beginners course in a couple of weeks, so this series is very valuable and I'm definitely subscribing! Thank you :-)
So so so informative 👏. Thank you. I'm glad that I already added first few tips in my first class. And now after watching the video I'll follow your other tips and make my teaching more likeable by my students @Ashley Hagen🙏🙏🙏
As a yoga teacher , how do I prepare or get in the mindset of teaching yoga training to other aspiring yoga teachers ? Been teaching yoga at gyms for the past two years and I just can’t shake off thinking that I should be teaching at a yoga studio to be more exposed to trainings that the studio may be Leading , and to be around more like minded teachers who have already taken that leap and are comfortable with leading yoga training on site or on retreats and just understand the creation of the curriculum and so forth .
My Swimming Coach is letting me make my own Yoga Class Teaching videos to share with other athletes! And after COVID-19 pandemic is over, she is going to let me do it in person at my local Fitness Center!😀😁 But for me as a quiet person, I REALLY REALLY want to do this because I want to open myself up and share my Yoga knowledge that helped me fix my Health & Mental Health problems!! How can I do this WITHOUT being shy and quiet?
Hello, in my experience, you get better by putting on your " I got this" yogi pants. When started teaching i when I did my own practice I would also verbalize out loud what I was doing as if I was teaching a class. I also watched some videos and verbalized the sequence along with the instructor. In the end, learning to teach is experiential. Learn my doing. I hope this helps.
No. But it's a great idea! Thank you. Props are still quite new to me. I learned to teach power yoga in 2013 without props. The studio didn't even have props in their studio. I was one of those "pshhh I don't need a block" types of yogis. Now I've learned to appreciate them. But I do not yet have a video or a lesson on props. Thanks for the question!
You are amazing- each vide i watch teaching me a lot. You even check if i receive the email you have sent. I can’t stop enjoying learning from you. Thank you so very much. Greetings from Turkey.
Hmm.. I don't specifically know any books talking specifically on teaching to beginners. I think any beginner yoga books would help. Sorry I can't be of more help on this.
thank you for the video i needed this! i have my first donation based class next week and have 30 people interested! the thing is, i’m still in ytt and a lot of them are new
Have so much fun! 30 people interested does not mean that many will attend. He j in with each person just prior to remind them. If you already taught it, how did it go?
My go.to.yoga instructor would ask.everyone.."are.you orthopedically sound". He would ask.about injuries.. He would ask.silly questions whem.the room felt heavy and too serious. ".what kind of fish was Nemo?"
I dont agree with taking class time to do yoga 101 for new people..If people have questions they can ask the instructor before or after, beyond that,.they need to do some homework. I understand focus, theme intention and whatnot but If Ilost 15/60 minutes.or more of class, I would not have stayed in that class..Time debting for any reason is bad business/customer service..
@@AshleyHagen I started yoga in 1997 because of back injury. I was hit by a DUI driver. Yoga was about the physical relief. I found a teacher I adored and drove 30 minutes for every class 2-3 times a week. Yoga became big medicine for me in life. It was so dramatic, I was seeing huge changes literally over night. If he he had spent class time talking about yoga props, it would have taken away from the recovery. I would not have driven the 30 minutes. I did feel as if.he was available for questions or problems but the class didn't stop for.it. I am in the process of getting my teaching/trauma informed certificates. Having that time boundary for the class built a trust and safety zone for me. I want to pass that on to my students. I will.talk with them, but I will also encourage them to do their homework on their own. If they start doing homework, hopefully it would spark curiosity in more areas. I have never taught yoga but I have worked in a classroom since.1990. I can only teach so much. At some point, it is up to them to want to know something enough to find their own answers.
As I interpret this video, this geared towards a beginner, a brand new student. I think her teaching points are spot on for brand new students. If students come to a class expecting one thing and that class is above their current abilities it could turn them off to yoga all together. This is especially true, IMO, if they have an injury, have experienced a trauma or have some other limitations. Being new can be scary. If teaching a series, I think these tips can lay a great foundation. And, im glad you found an instructor who was able to meet your needs and goals. 😊
@@bellavita521 As a beginner or not, I would like the class to start on time and finish as scheduled. If people have questions or concerns, the teacher and interested students to stay afterwards. If students don't get the full class time, it is time debting. I am very aware not to do this.

Teach the same thing over and over. Repetition.
