    Muni's performance is blistering, he should have gotten an Oscar nomination for this role. His character is incredible. Arguably the greatest gangster film ever. The remake pails next to this masterpiece.

    Its interesting that Francesca didn't pull out the gun to shoot Tony in this version, and she had a lot of less lines and didn't say she wanted to become a gangster like he was or even wanted to join him in fighting back against the hoard of cops. Also the movie didn't cut with the last shot of the famous lines "The World is Yours". I like the original ending a lot, I think they chose the other because this is a lot darker in tone with the hanging execution part.

      They had to record this one because certain states had restrictions for violence in media. It was made to appeal to lawmakers.
      I think this was made exclusively for Maryland (?),
      I forgot. It was with the DVD special edition and explained it.

    While the ending of the theatrically released version saw "Scarface" gunned down in the shootout with the Police, this alternate ending sees "Scarface" arrested, sentenced, and executed in prison.
    The theatrical ending is a Poetic Justice, while the alternate is a Moralistic Justice.

    This version was interesting but to say it was a better version compared to Al Pacino is a huge over statement.. in the end when this version of tony saw death in the face he begged for mercy while the Montana version had his balls and his word backing him till death.. dude racked up a whole mountain of coke and proceeded to go out shooting when he knew he was gonna die. He died with honor, this guy died like a coward.

      This is a much better movie a real classic. It was written about the real life of Al Capone. He loved the this movie.

    • @michaelpalmieri7335
      @michaelpalmieri7335 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hollywood-thegoldenage5310
      I heard that Capone hated the film because it showed Paul Muni's character, Tony, (who's supposed to be based on Capone) being killed by the police in the end, and the real Al Capone was very much alive at the time. (When the film was being made, Capone was facing a long prison sentence for income tax evasion.)
      George Raft (who played one of Tony's henchmen in the movie, and was friends with real-life gangsters) was actually summoned by Capone to his office, where he voiced his displeasure with the film to the actor, but then supposedly added that he couldn't do anything about it because "they've blamed me for everything except the Chicago Fire," referring to the horrible mass fire that destroyed much of Chicago in October of 1871.
      This conversation between Capone and Raft was recreated in a scene from "The George Raft Story" (1961), with Ray Danton as Raft. Al Capone was played by Neville Brand, who also portrayed the infamous mobster on the TV crime program "The Untouchables." (1959-1963)
      Ironically, Ray Danton himself also portrayed a notorious Prohibition Era gangster when he was the title character in "The Rise And Fall Of Legs Diamond" (1960), and again when he repeated the role in "Portrait Of A Mobster" (1961), which was actually the story of Dutch Schultz, played by Vic Morrow.

    • @terrorsaur599
      @terrorsaur599 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely! The only improvement the remake makes is the acting.
      Everything else, the plot, the pacing, the themes, even the action, goes to the original.

  • @labenvenci1584

    Specific states had this cut, like Arkansas because of film violence censorships. So instead of Tony being gunned down, they went for a ending where the Law won.

      @@remoteaccess3046you are not paying respect to the original if you change the original. They shouldn't have bothered if they couldn't keep it true to the original story. Make another movie. It seemed too overdone to me and it became laughable. Especially when you have seen the original first. It was a true story a better story of our real history, not an imitation. The original had a better director and because it showed such violence it was blocked from many states up until 1970. The Original is real Hollywood History the second one was a bad imitation. If you can't do better then don't just cash in on the name. Maybe they should have stuck closely to the script and just redid it in color. It wouldn't have been so laughable. It was a story of Bootlegging not Cocaine and Paul Muni didn't soak his head in booze in the original. Get it? To you, it's a classic to those who have seen the original it's a bad imitation of a CLASSIC.
