      @@BernardLau1991 unfortunately I don't own it. I have an A7C, Panasonic GH5 and an A7iii that I dropped in the water 😮 I sent it to be repaired today, hence my interest in your video, but I suspect they'll tell me to just buy a new one. Either way I'll be sure to watch your review. Keep up the great work and give us a shout if you ever find yourself in Sabah.

      I don't film much with the housing out of the water as it would be a pain to carry around but that said, I think the image quality would still be fine. The audio is going to suffer a lot though. I never use the audio when it is in the housing.

    hi, In the past I have used Ikelite and aquatech, but the last three housing have been seafrogs for professional dives. I was tired of buying expensive housings every time I purchased a new camera- which is about every two years. I also wanted to own two housings when I do shoots so if a housing goes down I have redundancy, or when I want two lenses at the same time (very useful). I know what you mean about the lighter, cheaper feel of the seafrogs, but when you look closer- they are really well designed and are better designed than all the housings around that price range (under 2k used) . Far more compact and light - this is really important for heaps of shooting, two back seals, pressure leak check (like expensive housings have) and a leak detector. Until I hear of heaps of leaks of these, then its just an assumption that they are problematic. I don't shoot very deep however - no more than 25m, and most of the time 5-15m- where the light is. Im yet to have a leak with seafrogs, but I have had lost a week old canon 5dsr with an aquatech housing. I did look into nauticam, but they are too heavy and are so expensive they dont make a sensible business decision. The camera's aren't expensive enough to justify a housing worth more than them- and theres always insurance for lost cameras if theres an unfortunate leak IMO.

    The Ikelite DL 200 does come with one handle to the left which was ignored in your review. I added a second one to the right and it's a must if you shoot images and video. I live on VI and dive with drysuit gloves. The controls are tight not because of the housing rather hten how Panasonic Lumix Gh5 II is set up. Before that set I had an AQUATICA housing for a Canon 5D and that was a nightmare. The controls were offset and wiggly and often din't line up with the controls. I recommend to take a plastic stick or golf tee and attach it to a wrist strap. Any other turnable controls on the Ikelite works fine with thick gloves. Also if you deside to keep the costs down, putting an expensive Sony camera in a cheap housing is a bad choice. Also I am really pleased with Ikelite's customer service and with over 100 tutorial videos on YoutTube about dos and donts. Worth the money.

      Thank you for the support. :) Well, till now I am using my Seafrogs housing. I think it is perfect for me as I am an occasional user. I am also not very meticulous so servicing my housing often is not something I do. With the price of Seafrogs, I can easily buy a new one to replace the old one. Although that has not happened yet. The build quality is good enough that after using it for quite some time now, it is still fine. But then again, I use it for diving. Not sure how intense surfing can get. Or if someone slams into you. So I can't speak about that. Hope this answer helps you in some way.

    Wow you brought up a question I didn't even think of at the end. Do you feel that it would be necessary to even use an α7SIII in deeper, darker waters? I figured that the lights could clear up some of that anyway, but also with how murky the water was that you were filming in, would that change anything going to α7SIII?

    • @BernardLau1991

      Does seafrogs have a lens port that fits the sigma 24-70? Damn now I want to get that lens port as well hahaha.
      I would say… both does videos and photos equally well. My only consideration factor would be the budget, and the portability.
      Also, I don’t do underwater stuff as often as I would like which is why I don’t want to invest too much in the system. I went with seafrogs first so like it wouldn’t hurt as much to upgrade to another system in the future. If you get an ikelite, upgrading would be tough imo.

    Man....
    I have been shooting video and photos underwater for 11 years now and I have to say that Meikon/Seafrogs are GREAT. The salted line is WONDERFUL.
    I have seen LOTS (and I mean LOTS) of friends flooding Subal, Nauticam houses and of course that piece of "shitty plastic" you test here called Ikelite (that tends to fog a lot on colder waters because of the polycarbonate is thinner than usual) and my seafrogs housings... NEVER leaked.
    I have an old (2008) NIMAR houing, very cumbersome, for EOS 350D that was upfgraded to use the 550D (t2i?) and it had a crack on the surface, I filled it in with some silicone and it's working...
    The Seafrogs ones NEVER cracked.
    Maybe because I am afraid to crack it, I terat them with more care, maybe is that, but the thing is I have 4 or 5 sets of seafrogs and mate, I don't want any others:
    Oh, and by the way...
    I use A7II with MC11 adapter for some canon lenses and I can use, with seafrogs extensions (there are several) and rings, LOTS of lenses:
    Wide angle:
    For Canon, with MC11
    - Laowa 15mm f/4 Macro 1:1
    - Sigma 10-15
    - Canon 10-18
    - Opteka 15mm f/4 Macro 1:1
    For Sony:
    - Sony EF28-70
    - Rokinon/Samyang 14mm f/2.8 (Great lens :) )
    Macro:
    For Canon with MC-11:
    - Canon 100mm IS L
    - Canon 100mm Standard
    - Canon 60mm Macro
    - Canon MP-E65 (up to 2:1)
    - Sigma 50Mm f2.8-45
    For Sony:
    - Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2:1 Cdreamer
    I used ALL these Lenses with the seafrogs housing and controlled the focus or the zoom rings.
    Oh, and also the CAnon 70-200 f/4 L with MC-11 as well. With two extension tubes from seafrogs for surf photography.
    Man... Seafrogs rock, really.
    One may have to adjust the rings with some sponges inside and double side tape for them to work with the lenses rings but that is so simple to do... and it works!

      @BernardLau1991  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Histogramas
      @Histogramas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BernardLau1991 damn... :( that is so sad...
      Do you know why? Where was the fault?
      Thing is that in the end o the day all housings eventually leak. But I don't think that seafrogs quality is bad. Maybe it can't handle waves so well for surf photography, let's say that, but for scuba??? I don't know...
      But having a 400 dollars set and a 1000 dollars cam+lens damaged is different than having a 3000 dollars set and the same camera+lenses damaged...
      My ikelite setup for Canon 5D is trash, I will never use it.
      My Nimar is still fine...
      And my Seafrogs are in and out of the water almost every weeks :)
      Wish you the best.

      Fill the housing with coloured toillet paper. Put it under some pressure inside the housing. Then close it, being carefull not to have paper over and between o-rings, and put it underwater, preferrably to a deep dive the time needed to have a small beggining of a flood.
      Then carefully open the housing and remove the block of paper, looking for the wet portion, that should be easy to see because of the darker colour of the paper. There should be the position of the leak.

  • @Histogramas
    @Histogramas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Personally I don't like Ikelite housings. They have good products, yes, but not widely compatible and at least the housing I had the chance to have, for Canon cameras, were too thin... therefore allowing A LOT of fog inside or forcing the use of a lot of dissecant. I live at Portugal and in the summer air os about 30 to 35 degrees centigrade and water still 20. This difference is enough for fogging.
    Also, being so thin and bulky (the one for canon t5 at least was) a lot more air was inside, comparing to the seafrogs one, making the set a lot positive underwater, so I had to add weight. While in water that wasn't an issue, when you take ot out of the water...
    Also, thin equals fragile when swimming in wrecks or by rocks.. so...
    Yeah, they have good equipment and nice optics, but for me, if I have to spend and guarantee LOTS of security and quality, I would go for Subal or Nauticam. If not, if it for a controlled environment with some bimps maybe.. then seafrogs, for sure.
