    I have used these budget water housings from meikon for years. My tips are check and double check the latch before you go in the water. Buy a spare latch for your trip, since that will usually be the part that will break - usually when you open it. Also, whenever I open the case I clean the inner o-ring with a qtip (without removing it). I remove the outer o-ring and run it through my fingers to test for sand. I then clean it with some paper, lubricate it with silicone, and put it back in. One thing I appreciate about meikon is that they offer spare parts at reasonable prices on the website, and publish the dimensions of the o-rings for the various housing models. In contrast, a replacement o-ring for the sony mpk-urx100a underwater housing (from sony) was $65, if you could find one.

    Hey dude, instead of using saliva to lubricate the O-rings I suggest u to use silicon grease! I have the same housing and it has been a year now since I purchased it. I used it for diving up to 25 meters (with the vacum pump also) and worked very well, but if u dont lubricate the O-rings they get dry and can break. Cheers from CHile!

      You guys leave the vacuum on during the dive? I honestly didnt know it could go in the water. I read on the seafrogs that they recommend against submerging it. Maybe they are just being cautious?

    • @BenjaminValenzuelaWallis
      @BenjaminValenzuelaWallis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jessewalsh8170 Hey Jesse, ive always used it underwater. If you check the seafrogs instgram you can see that in some oficial photos they also have the vacum pump underwater. There is a problem with that because once you keep the vacum pump you create 1 ATM inside the housing, so in theory it can only go down 30 meters instead of 40.

    I shoot with the A7rIII and have used a Seafrogs housing for 2 years now with no issues. I only got this housing because it was either $700 for this or the next cheapest one was an Ikelite which after you add ports is over $2000. Huge price gap so Seafrogs it is for now!

    Sooo where do I begin.. LOL
    First off.. Its called an Underwater Housing.. Not a water housing?
    2nd, Seafrogs isn’t a cheap housing, its an affordable housing.
    I have been using my seafrogs housing for my A7iii for over 3 years now and have had none of your issues and none of the concern.
    Your tools last as long as you can maintain them.. I hydrate my o-rings weekly, I thoroughly wash the housing (buttons and all) after each dive. Never leave it in the sun light as much as possible.
    If your housing fails its likely because you don't maintain it or mis-use it.
    BTW That vacuum seal add-on is ment to (TEST) your housing. Not a dive add on.
    The sensor is designed to simulate the immense pressure that will be pressing on the case when under the water at max depth by creating a negative pressure inside the case.
    So when you create a vacuum inside the housing, then take it underwater you are essentially already maxing out the recommended depth pressure that the casing is designed for..
    Who cares? I do, this is how casings implode underwater and you are sitting here spreading misinformation and talking crap on a company that is trying to make affordable housings for people that are interested in getting into the craft without spending an arm and a leg.

      Pretty sure vacuum only ads one atmosphere of pressure, and the casing rated to 40 meters, so capable of holding 5 atmosphere pressure. If at vacuum you would be able to dive down to about 25 meters. Unless the vacuum seal vent cant hold much more than one atm.

    Your firend's issue is uncommon. It can happen with EVERY brand (I have seen it happen with Nauticam, Sea & Sea, Subal, shitty Ikelite, Nimar....) He should see where is the water coming in from (use coloured toilet paper inside the housing, fill in the whole housing with the coulored toilet paper and then and "floodit " ... the entry point will show up in the paper.)
    Maybe it's a badly sealed button...
    But it should be easy to fix once you can identifi the leak origin.
    Best of luck to you guys. NIce videos. Subscribed :)

      @barkatthemoonlunatic1715 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Water probably came into the housing from the PRE-DIVE Vacuum that he did not take off PRE-Diving. Think about it...the pump sucks all the air out, so now it's even easier for water to get in if there is a tiny opening somewhere! LOL!

    • @Histogramas
      @Histogramas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@barkatthemoonlunatic1715 indeed you are right, BUT.... on the other hand, the system SHOULD HAVE warned before when air entered...
      Ar entering may not mean water will, even on a almost vacuum chamber. Depends...
      Anyways, the existence of vacuum (or almost vacuum) should also seal the housing tighter....
      In case any crack opens, yes, there will be a superfast flood.... and this is why we should NEVER use that underwater. Sometimes a flood is controllable... if there is vacuum inside the housing, it will be a lot more diffixult, if not impossible, to control it.

    Thanks so much for this- spot on for what I needed. What do you reckon to using autofocus for underwater video? I always use manual of course but without being able to touch the lens under water, I'd be relying on auto... I sometimes use auto focus tracking for interviews where the presenter is moving around a lot but how is it in water please? And what f-stop do you use for best depth of field? Thank you!!!

      Jackson Lebsack nah my honest opinion is be careful buying cheap! They definitely work sometimes, the most issues I’ve herd with people loosing cameras via cheaper water housing and even expensive ones is user error! Great video!

      @@RyanMackPhoto no, it's not cheap. He misinformed his viewers on a number of things. 1- the Pre-dive pump is a PRE-dive check system. leaving it on when diving is NOT to be done. Their website even has a WARNING not to do this. 2 - use silicone lube, not spit on the o-rings. who knows what else he did wrong...but a number of other people left similar comments on what he did wrong.
