    I've used this housing extensively over the past year and I am ready to give you my insight on it. I have found some cons and I will share how I deal with them. I will also give you my recommendation on whether or not this is a housing you should add into your kit. I think this is going to be a useful one.

    Hello.
    I have used seafrogs on all my camera models, from old Canon 550D, to my Olympus TG5 and TG6, and also for my sony rx100 iV and Vii, sony a6300, sony a6500, sony A7 Ii, and now sony A9. They are super durable if we don't skip proper care. I also have tons of expansion ports, domes, etc and the vacuum pump for leak detection. Super!
    One question, if you know: on my a9 housing, as well on that model you showing for the a7 R III, there is a small button wheel on the front, right above the port.
    I am trying hard to understand what that is for... the cameras have no buttons there... the focus ring don't seem to touch it (I have the old hard plastic ones but now there are some rubber more soft ones...). I thought it was to help get them aligned withe the cogwheel down by the base but I don't think its that either.. any ideas?
    Thanks.

      Hey 👋 if you’re talking about the one I think you’re referring to, it’s the lock for the zoom ring. Like you turn it aside so you can install it, and once installed you can lock it so it doesn’t come off. But it’s not really needed. Like the zoom ring works fine even if you don’t lock it haha

      Also I just found one thing that may help you:
      As you know, the seafrogs housings do not have access to the front dial.
      You suggested (I think it was you) to use the menu and change the back dial from shutter to aperture but that is slow, specially underwater.
      You can programme the back wheel to have aperture or shutter speed in the "My Dial" configurations and set three sets of options for that wheel.
      Pressing the "left" part of the back wheel, I travel trough the three modes I programmed.
      In one I control shutter on the back dial, aperture on the back wheel.
      In another I control the ISO and on the other I control the WB in Kelvins.
      :)
      Super quick to change, just pressing the left side of the wheel (you can program any other key to access the "MyDial" configurations of course). ;)

    The only thing you haven't tested is the cold water (but you might not have any in your region hehe). I wonder if the fog would be present or not. Maybe using the vacuum system would prevent this. But I would be curious about the buttons if you could press them or not.

    • @BernardLau1991
      @BernardLau1991  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      MaximumDiver I’ve had the system fog up on me before. It happens when I run the camera on for longer periods of time.
      But I think that happens regardless of housing you use right? Not just to seafrogs haha. Don’t have any experience with the vacuum seal unfortunately :(

      I always stuff as many mini desiccant packs (those that come included in packages / most anything you buy nowadays etc.) as possible into the housing (around the camera/lens). If the ambient / water temperature difference is high then I'd even smear (gasp, horror) some toothpaste on all clear interior surfaces. I'd almost never get a fogged up housing or lens with those precautions.

    Hey! Do you need the dome for those half-underwater / half-above-water pictures, or can I get that effect with the original lens housing (considering the lens I want to use fits in the original housing)?

    • @BernardLau1991
      @BernardLau1991  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. If you want to get the half in half out shots, you would need a wide angle and preferably a dome port. The bigger the dome, the clearer the separation will be. I'm using the 6 inch dome but if storage isn't a problem, I would recommend the 8 inch. Hope this helps :)

    • @Histogramas
      @Histogramas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Juan. Because of optical refraction and FoV correction, you will need a dome. Otherwise, if you use a flat port, you may do a split shot but the portion underwater will be magnified (and probably out of focus) and the upper half won't. Therefore, both parts won't "match", you will have a wider angle of vision in air than in water.
