Chlorophyll isn’t blood. It’s just the stuff that comes out of chloroplasts, which is the plant equivalent of mitochondria. Edit: I was very tired. Yes, plants have mitochondria as well, but animals don’t have chloroplasts (except that photosynthesizing sea slug).
Don't forget that the plant cell also has plenty mitochondria besides chloroplasts. And of course it isn't blood, it's just a silly short that invites NileRed into people's algorithm.
@professorfrog7181 funnily enough the only thing I can think of they have in common is that both cloroplasts and mitochondria started as their own living form and then came in a sort of simbiotic life inside other unicellular organisms
Plants do have mitochondria to generate ATP from glucose. Chlorophyll simply acts as a way for the plant to absorb a ton of heat from sunlight, where that heat is then used to synthesize glucose from carbon and oxygen from carbon dixoide in the air, and water, along with a bunch of other enzymes that act as catalysts for the reaction. That's why the reaction is called "photosynthesis", they use heat from sunlight to synthesize glucose that they can then use to make ATP, or simply combust to provide enough chemical energy to do other things. Edit: Plants also do have a liquid inside them that acts as a transportation method to move nutrients and other chemicals around themselves inside vascular tissues (called xylem and phloem). It's most often called "sap", but you could also say that it is a kind of "plant blood".
I feel like I’m stating the obvious, but they called it plant blood because of the color it glows under a UV light. It’s a reddish-orange tint kinda like blood.
For anyone curious, (human)blood doesn't really glow under a blacklight, from my experience, it's just black. If you're thinking of that vibrant blue glow, i believe it's when luminol is used. Really cool! Edit: If you're unsure, "ME" stands for "Medical Examiner". Another name is "forensic pathologist", hope that clears things up!:)
