I'm just looking into the gearing and how it works I have 3 gears in the front and 7 in the back . The smallest in the front is 26 and the biggest in the back is 28 so its just shy of the wheel making a full rotation with one rotation of the pedal . I'm taking it that if I had 28 on the front and 28 in the rear it would be exactly one rotation of the wheel with one rotation of the pedal ? I have noticed with the bigger 12 gears from 10 to 52 teeth the front gear only has 1 gear in front . Why is that ? Why wouldn't I want to keep my 3 gear set in the front ? Would the angle of the chain be to much for say the biggest gear out of the 3 on the front and when the chain is on the 52 tooth gear on the rear or would it still work ? As far as the shifter goes for the front gears if I wanted to add a 12 gear 10-52 couldn't I keep the same shifter for the front and only have to chance the derailleur and the shifter for the rear ?

Isn't the left side pedal reverse threaded so it won't unthread when pedaling? (Both are being tightened when pedaling)
Nope, other way around . Picture which way the pedal body pulls on the spindle as it rotates during pedaling.
