New subscriber. Came across your video of this year's trade show and came across this one. I like what I see. Good videos. We used to call them rake and runs with the youth group I was in is a teenager. They helped us pay for summer camp and missions trips.
Brian's Lawn Maintenance Hey Brien This set up that you have . Do you think it’s better this way than to make a pile, put them in a tarp and take them to your trailer? I’m asking you because that’s exactly what I do , and I’m watching your video it seems your set up it’s a lot much better but I just wanted to know from your point of view what do you think. Thx for all your videos !!!
Nice I'm 19 & been cutting grass for 5 years now & I've Learned how to do irrigation & tree trimming & watching videos like this helps me get a more of a understanding of other people opinions & thoughts but otherwise said keep up the great videos
I just love work, I could sit and watch it for hours. That is what my boss always said. I love how you guys have made such a heavy job into a rather lite one. As a homeowner, you don't know how good it feels to look out your window on a Friday night and know that you are not going to have to clean up the yard all day tomorrow. It would take all day too.
I have a suggestion for trimming the tall grasses like pampas etc. Get a string and tie it in a slip knot and tie it up like a stalk of wheat. Then just do one cut at the bottom. It saves me a lot of time when cutting big ones like that.
Quick tip on tall grass. Have a roll of string. Tie up the tall grass and then use hedge trimmer to do a clean cut off the bottom. Now it's already tied up into a bundle and easier, faster to dispose of. Any loose stuff blow into the yard and bag it with the mower. Thanks for the video. It's good for us guys to learn off each other. This is my personal account, not my business account lol. My company name is not Italian fighter. ROFL.
Hey Brian, I run 4 exmarks. When cleaning up leaves we run a couple of the mowers with the mulch kits over the yard first then run the vac. That cuts your vac time by 2/3. Plus a whole lot less debris. Been doing it for 25 years.
I know many guys that do that, makes sense. I see some guys go over it a few times and then add the bagger back on. 90% of my customers have wood lines in their backyard so It's only an extra dump or two for me. But good looking out. rock on
I and my son, we have a small business, mostly in our neighborhood. We did only the front yard which included racking up leaves and mulching after, plus the clean up with leave blower. We did only the front yard. My bid was at 40$ she said no way, then ask me if 80$ would work instead, my bottom jaw dropped. After completion she said that her yard looked 1000 times better and tip me an extra 20$. Total price came out to 100$ cash for a 55 minute job on a 2k sqf house. Bless her.
I learned from geek to freak ... wrap that tall grass in duct tape then cut below tape. I've been in business 10 years and I love this technique.. saves clean up time
If you bind the tall grass in several places and cut it at the bottom you could sell it to your other clients who are looking for a fall decorative presentations. People are looking for that kind of motif. ;)
We went pretty late into the 2017 season too. I don't think we finished up until like Dec 20th ourselves. As far as leaf clean ups go, before this spring, I had only used attachable aluminum catchers on our Gravely 52in and 36in mowers because they are all stand ups. The catchers don't hold that much, so leaf clean ups were a pain in the butt because we had to empty the catchers so often. We just got a 60in a few weeks ago with a mulch kit, to handle some of our clients that have bigger yards, and wow the little bit of cleaning we did here for the start of the 2018 season was so much faster. The amount of leaves that thing can hold before I had to empty was kind of surprising.

+Brian's Lawn Maintenance mason string works the best for the grasses. Wrap up high the middle and down low, and one cut at the bottom. Just gotta make the string tight. Works great for smaller landscape grasses also.
Hey Brian, I wrap ornamental grasses with baler twine. wrap it around the base and tie off tight, then barber pole the twine upwards and tie off again and then cut. You are left with nice bundles that are easy to haul away. Easy Peesy. Hope this helps you with your tall grass.
I like the tall grass! As long as you tie a rope around the base, make sure it's tight and cut under it then it'll all stay together and you can just throw it in the bed of your truck
You can tie the tall grass in the middle really tight with a tow strap or paracord and then cut it at the bottom. Saves a lot of time. I showed this to a guy I helped out this year and it saved him three hours (property had 12 sections of tall grass).
Hey Brian heres a tip for tall grass.....have ur worker bee wrap his arms around the grass near the base tightly then you cut underneth his arms then it cuts alot easier and he will have a huge load to throw onto a tarp beside it!! A couple cuts and its all gone on the tarp load up and LATER!! Quick and easy bud.....work smarter not harder brother.keep up the killer vids
If I remember right Top Notch wraps that tall grass with tape and then cuts it off at the base. That might work better for you, definitely would be a lot less hassle I would think.

NIce video Brian. That mower does a pretty good job. A dump trailer for you and all of us is definitely a great investment. Especially come time to cut down many, many grasses and perennials. Omg how do we do it!
I keep a piece of rope in the truck that I wrap around the base of the tall grass and run the hedge trimmer straight across so the rope holds it all together and falls in a bundle lol no fuss easy clean up
15 people? I did a yard this size if not bigger that was a downwards hill front and backyard with a 20 year old snapper push mower, wead eater, blower and trimmer just by myself on a 90 degree day just recently in 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Still did a great job though 👍
Prices depends on state and the job !! For $125 Brian has an guaranteed customer for life !!! Keep your prices right where they at ! Many times lawn care bussiness goes under because of rates ! And they wonder why nobody calls @ if your prices are to high !
Awesome video. I just got done a 7 hour mulch job. Literally mulching and mulching. Cleaned out every flower bed or mulch bed. Around house and mulched everything. 1 guy 7 hours.
i recently worked 34 hours solo to clear some land and do a cleanup on a lawn. unfortunately I underbidded it quite a bit from what I try to make per hour unfortunately but for around here, it was a competitive price i believe.
Nice video Brian, Exactly how I do all my fall clean up's with all my customers just did my last customer last week here in up state NY Hip hip hooray Lol
Man that is def the way to do leaf cleanups.. that bagging system is legit. My market is new development with zero trees.. if I had a lot of properties with trees I would have a completely different setup... probably a lot like yours!
Good fair price! I don’t have a lot leaves to justify an ultra vac for cleanups but my friend does. What do you do with your debris? Dump in the woods? Loose in the bed of the truck, brown bag it, tarp? I mulch what leaves i do have by running over the yard several times or blow the leaves to the street curb because the city picks them up.
You can throw tall grass in the woods. I put mine in my compost every year and it breaks down real nice like. And I see you showin' off with your one-handed driving. . .
One thing that is holding me back a little is under bidding jobs. I think the main reason is because I feel like i wont get the job if i go higher, plus im still learning how to judge just how much work will go into it. need to work around such problems
Try. Fail. Adjust. I factor it 2 ways, one is to figure out your operating costs, how much profit do you want to make per hour, etc etc. #2, how long would it take THEM to do it. If you're saving them 6 hours of back breaking work, for most people, $100-$150-$200 is money well spent to enjoy their afternoon and not die of a heart attack raking leaves. Hope that helps!
Yeah, there is no way i could charge $125 for 45 minutes most of my people would say see ya later alligator, possibly if I had two machines and men but no way being solo. When you got big trailers and trucks pulling huge mowers you gotta cover your cost of travel no doubt, bigger outfits can take on bigger accounts too,i like staying small and simple,i had all the big headaches back in the 90s and dont miss it at all for the little extra $$ it brought in :)
@@mufozomby7637 I agree -- Folks, the name of the game is offer quality & make profit. That being said, if they did this whole job in only 45mins; then, I'm very impressed....2 guys may have been at the property for 45mins-75mins, but you still had travel time (before & after), which must be charged for. Then, always include a base fee for equipment being used (blowers, mowers, bagging system, truck, trailer, even hand tools, all get wear & tear & gas is used) -- (EX: Base rate Travel/Equipment $25-50, then labor for work + travel to cover payroll, then toss another $50-100 at least for profit). And, don't forget DUMPING FEE: (minimum of $25-100) -- I don't care if you're composting the waste, or dumping in woods, taking it to a landfill or recycle center, charge for it & make $$. If dumping fee is $25, you charge $50. Always add a small bit of profit to every item included to get the job done. I like the idea of ball parking ESTIMATE figure (EX: $100-125), but make sure you explain that only covers a specific amt. of time, or discuss with them if you hit budget cap to make sure they are in agreement with adding a little more $$ to get more items done, or spending more time than originally anticipated. There are plenty of clients out there who will add crap mid-job, or as you pull up. Don't be afraid to add a small amount on at the first request of extra work. You don't have to charge an arm & a leg, but be reasonable to yourself, so you are honest, fair, but get PAID for your hard work. If y'all are busting your butt, working hard, shelling out serious $$ for new/better equipment, you must always pay yourself very well & your workers, and have profit leftover to grow -- even if growing is only buying newer/bigger equipment to do more jobs/or do them safer/easier.
Brian great video. I watched a video the other day and noticed when you were in you enclosed trailer I noticed the brackets on the sides holding your equipment off the ground. I really like it and was wondering if you could tell me where you got them. Thanks
When I do the tall grass, I find it easier to pretty much lasso the grass. Have one guy hold it as tight as possible; and than cut with the pruning shears. Than you just take the bundle to the truck or throw it in the bag
Hey much respect and thank you for the help with pricing, that has been a huge problem for me all my life. Everybody always gives the run around and leaves me with more questions than anything. Much appreciated, bruh!
Great video, I'm starting to record leaf clean ups too, I like to video record it, fast pace it and post it on my account, turns out to be a very satisfying video to watch :P
In my market its hard to get that amount of money for 1.5 man hours. Out of curiosity what is a cut worth on that size lawn. My customers have no issue paying but the competition is plentiful that keeps the prices low. Keep in mind I am in Canada our economy leaves a bit to be disired
Wow $125. I did a house with just a slightly smaller yard and charged them $75 for the leaf clean up plus the lawn cut obviously. I did the same thing, blew out the beds and all along the perimeter of the house. When I was done, the whole yard was covered in leaves haha I mulched everything with a 21" push mower, it's what I had at the time, and then I finisned it and the yard looked amazing. I went to collect money and the lady said "all you did was go over the lawn with the lawn mower. You didn't do anything different, it looks the same" I was like there's no leaves here, your lawn is really green you wanted a leaf cleanup and that's what I did. It's not like I can change the lawn lol I got rid of all the leaves and there was a ton of leaves!. And the lady gave me $40 instead of $75. I was like damn, I was pissed telling her it took a lot of machine time for me to do this and she kept saying yeah but it was too easy. I was like what the hell lol too easy? $40 bucks bro. At least I got something, I would of sued her ass if she didn't give me anything.
When I bid a job I tell the customer the price upfront. I'm really clear about the fact I don't do hourly, i give a price, they can accept or decline, the price never changes during or after the job is completed.
@@Jonay1990 A friend and I actually did that with a snow shoveling job we got when we were 15. We gave the customer the price before starting, and the guy would only pay half of what we wanted. We wanted 80 he offered 40, I looked at my friend and said what ever we'll do it , it's money. Please note: this was for doing a huge driveway with access to the road, sidewalk, and path to front door with about three stairs. It had snowed overnight about 10 inches, and was extremely heavy. We started on the driveway, and about ten min. In to the job I turned to my friend and said this was bullshit and that this was way to much work for 20 dollars each, he agreed and without even saying a word about our next move we started putting the snow back that we had removed in the ten min., that's when the customer came running outside yelling at us and asking what we were doing, I looked at him and said we dont want the job your not paying us enough, and my friend and I walked away 😁
I don't charge as much but knowing I am a smaller business I'm trying to more make a name for myself and also I freaking hate that tall grass I've cut my hands on that stuff
Pulling up weeds is not landscaping it's part of the clean-up. If your not going to remove them you should inform the client prior when giving quote so that their is no confusion at the end of the job.
Wow I live I n Texas I would charge 250 -300 in 2018 I started charging $50 an hr I don’t tell the customer that but that’s what fig. On the time / disposal est. nobody has ever complained about price so long as the work is excellent.
Nope no edging or trimming. Spring maybe to get things back in order, but that’s usually for a new client. That way I’m not stuck there for 30 minutes come mowing time getting that edge line back.
Hey Brian, just wondering what you do with all your debris? I never see you hauling any away. You've probably answered this before but I'm new to your channel so forgive me if I have not seen it
Mufo Zombie, Yeah, not too far from Chicago. I think it is because too many people running under the table businesses. That is nearly a third of my profit that they don't have to pay our government mafia. I get turned down by a third of my potential clients, quoting way less than everyone commenting here.
Hope these clean up videos help you guys. If you have questions, let me know!

For tall grass, I’ve always tied the bottom and brought it up to a good middleish part and cut straight thru, then shape.
Nice work Brian! You're the man!

Agreed. Still waiting to see if duct tape is allowed at my local dump. Need to call and figure that out. If it's not biodegradable, they'll yell, ha.
Brian I learn that if you tape the tall grass from the top it’s easier to trim. I saw it on one of top notch videos. Hope it helps
Brian, when you are cleaning up those tall ornamental grasses, throw a thin ratchet strap on the base (at the height you want to trim the grass) - tighten periodically as you trim right below the strap... then all the grass is bushel(ed) for easy haul away
I find it's easier than duct tape and re-usable
I use a bungee cord, but all three work great honestly.

What kind of leaf blower is that? I bought a couple of leaf blowers because I have 9 huge leaf trees but they didn't blow that well.
Redmax!
Bungithe tall grass and cut at the base. You can then haul the entire grass as one
Very cool.
Can you do a video for someone staying off as too what would be a good start on a small budget
There’s already a bunch of videos on that, some good ones too!
Nice video ir help alot
When I do the tall grass, I find it easier to pretty much lasso the grass. Have one guy hold it as tight as possible; and than cut with the pruning shears.
Than you just take the bundle to the truck or throw it in the bag
What's the name of the mower you use to bag the leafs?
What he said ha
Hey much respect and thank you for the help with pricing, that has been a huge problem for me all my life. Everybody always gives the run around and leaves me with more questions than anything. Much appreciated, bruh!
You bet :)
Great video, I'm starting to record leaf clean ups too, I like to video record it, fast pace it and post it on my account, turns out to be a very satisfying video to watch :P
Ha!
Good stuff brother!
orale.. looks nice. and cold.
That was a easy 200 in my book !
Multiply that by 20 and the quality equipment!
What type of Exmark that is
Lazer Z
I'll be honest..that leaf that was left in the middle at 7:30 got my OCD going.. lol
I work landscaped in full leaver $140
In my market its hard to get that amount of money for 1.5 man hours. Out of curiosity what is a cut worth on that size lawn. My customers have no issue paying but the competition is plentiful that keeps the prices low. Keep in mind I am in Canada our economy leaves a bit to be disired
$25/wk cut
Jeez lol that’s insane people like that get what’s coming to them. Good luck pal ha
When I bid a job I tell the customer the price upfront. I'm really clear about the fact I don't do hourly, i give a price, they can accept or decline, the price never changes during or after the job is completed.
i would have dumped half the leaves back on the lawn and told her "you only paid for half the job!"
that'd be hilarious to catch on video
Do you cut shorter to be able to pick up the leaves on the grass?
We do, 2.5
May I ask....what kind of blades are you using....Gator Blades?
Jake Schisler Just regular high lifts
I don't charge as much but knowing I am a smaller business I'm trying to more make a name for myself and also I freaking hate that tall grass I've cut my hands on that stuff
Yea its cool 125 in less than an hour.. But how often do u do this everyday? Do u have work all year long? Like a job
if you cut it at the bothum and you fold it to put it in the bag it will be less work
Nice weels
Hey cool vid bruh, what model hedger is that?
Echo 2420
Our landscaper charges $650 for fall clean up, but it’s an acre lot. 😞
Great video Brian. When you do fall clean ups do you still weed eat and edge or do you just pick up leaves (basic fall clean up no extra stuff)
Nope no edging or trimming. Spring maybe to get things back in order, but that’s usually for a new client. That way I’m not stuck there for 30 minutes come mowing time getting that edge line back.
Makes since
Where are you located, please?
Hi Brian, at what height do you recommend mulching or bagging leaves?
We normally mow at 2 5” in the fall for leaves
Hey Brian, just wondering what you do with all your debris? I never see you hauling any away. You've probably answered this before but I'm new to your channel so forgive me if I have not seen it
My city sucks it up curb side
@@BriansLawnMaintenance You're so lucky! I pay $12/yd to dump my debris
People are talking about extraordinary prices they charge. Here, we'd be lucky to get $30 for that clean-up job.
Mufo Zombie, Yeah, not too far from Chicago. I think it is because too many people running under the table businesses. That is nearly a third of my profit that they don't have to pay our government mafia. I get turned down by a third of my potential clients, quoting way less than everyone commenting here.
