Thanks for the video. I have just bought one but not yet put it on the track. It would have been good to see and hear the engine on the track with the noise before you made the modification.

I had this issue and could not work out what it was. Fortunately I watched a youtube video, like this one, which showed how inserting some paper into the gap by the motor would fix it. Unfortunately before I saw the video I had dismantled the loco and damaged one of the circuit board contacts. This was unnecessary as you do not need to unclip the wires to get access only lift up the main circuit board after unscrewing. Fortunately Bachmann sold me a new circuit board for £24 so it is now fixed. Lovely model, now works fine. Good video just wish I had seen this 2 months ago.

Sorry to hear of your issues, as soon as mine started making the noise, I did an investigation and noticed the motor 'floating' in the chassis and did the repair, maybe i should have taken it back, but the repair was so simple I decided just to sort it myself...after this I posted the video as soon as I could to help others...glad yours got sorted 👍

I don’t model in 4mm, but that model really looks like the horses doofers. Great vid, great channel, take care.

Although helpful to some, I think the simplest fix would be to send it to Bachmann for an exchange, repair or refund, ideally. It’s an issue to be fixed by them, not the consumer who’s just spent so much on it.
It’s a newly tooled model and it’s got a wobbly motor. I think that’s pretty scary. Back to the drawing board for Bachmann I think...

Story gets worse having fixed my class 20 but damaged my circuit board in the process (see my other comment) which was fixed with a new circuit board the same thing happened on my new class 37. I recognised the type of noise as the same one as this class 20 made and sure enough some cardboard shims fixed the noise on the class 37. But in the meantime, a connector came off the circuit board instead of disconnecting. Will try some electrical adhesive but the contacts are very fine so will probably end up buying some new circuit boards - again. So, Bachmann (& I) keep making the same mistake. It would be so easy for Bachmann to put in some shims at the factory. I suppose until we refuse to buy their noisy models the same thing will keep happening.

What the hell are we doing putting bits of board inside a new loci to stop the motor rattling, how long will that last, what the heck are Bachmann playing at, all models should be sent back to them and refunds demanded otherwise they will never address their crappy quality issues!
