In the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Super Mario 64, Mario and Peach are taking a much-deserved vacation from the so often troublesome Mushroom Kingdom. Only, they quickly find out that there is trouble amuck at their island destination. A culprit has coated the world with goop and paint. Even worse, according to the locals he just happens to look like Mario. Mistaken for the true offender, Mario's would-be vacation instead turns out to be another day on the job as he is convicted of the villain's crimes and is ordered to clean up the world with a water-spewing device that straps to his back, which just happens to add a whole new layer of depth to the usual platforming action.
Here, zelpikukirby ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/z... ) & Goldfire ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/G... ) use tools to show just how nimble the famed plumber can be. Focusing on revenge rather than reparation, they bring the perpetrator to justice after collecting only 43 shine sprites, leaving plenty of time for Mario and his friends to indulge in the rest and relaxation they originally set out to enjoy.

This run perfectly demonstrates one of my favorite things about TAS runs. They do things so optimally that often the game can't keep up and the player is left waiting for it to catch up, as after killing Petey the first time. What do the writers of the TAS do with this remaining time? They mess around. Optimally.

Maybe. I utilized my time by skipping the 30 seconds between each shine get and stage entry.

Ever Not enough consonant sounds.
Especially with how the last two slur together the way R’s do. With the “over” sound you’d need a distinct separation or a pause. That and the mental gymnastics you’d need to do to hear the very sharp and short “it’s” over a simple open-ended “the” sound
“It’s over” would make a lot more sense, (and I always personally thought it was maybe something in Italian?) but if it’s between these two there’s absolutely no way it’s anything other than “the horror”

One thing I noticed watching through is that Mario only refilled his tank in water twice during the whole run. Once during the manta fight, and once during the boat ride through corona mountain. That's it. Everything else was done solely with scripted refills like entering the level in the first place.

Easily the funniest TAS I've ever seen. I especially liked how they placed that durian, with the precision of an actual strat, just so they could bounce on it in a cutscene.

Also, I'm curious: some of the stage entrances, like at 44:42 , seemed like they were wasting time. Were they skipping some animation when they did that?
I think for the one that you mentioned, the level portal takes a second to become active.
That durian bounce does save time actually because you can collect the shine and land faster. Also you have to wait a while for the loading zone to become active.
playing the floor is lava the mission right before the floor is literally lava, and then proceeding to fly directly through the lava afterwards. absolute perfection.
