    Ive got a 76 ford f-250 but everything in the video is exactly how my shifting collar is, my old one completely was broken and cracked off, I ordered a new one, did everything I had to and im to the point where im putting the collar back onto the steering column. the collar will not fit back on it is just a bit off. Should I sand it down until it slides on to the steering column? or did I mess something up along the way? thanks

    I bought a shift collar from LMC truck. It does not slip down. It’s almost like it’s too small to slip down.

      Hmm not quite sure why that is. Maybe they sent the wrong shift collar. I would give our guys a call and see if they can help you out. 209-400-7200

    Where did you find the replacement shift collar? Mine just broke off in the exact same place.

    Wild Horses, thanks for the great video. I used this to put back my 66 F-100. Question, where do I position Cam-Signal Off piece which goes on the underside of the starring wheel? It's the round steel ring with little notch on one side. I have no reference as I'm putting the oem steering wheel back on. Thanks!

    Where can I find a stock colum shift lever or even a after market one ?

      Aside from a brand new column, there is nothing that I know of. You can try to call Driven Auto Parts in Arizona and see if they have a replacement one. That's your best bet. Sorry about that.

    I have a 1972 Jeep Commando it was my grandpa's old hunting rig I don't like replacing parts that can be rebuilt unless it's absolutely necessary.
    the shift collar in the Jeep does not have a spring or screws and it pops out of gear all the time because of the Warren lock plate that took me at least 4 days to figure out the name of the lock plate do you know where I can get a lock plate and a shifter caller with new rubber, spring that will fit a 72 Jeep Commando? my lock plate looks almost identical to the one you're using with only one exception on mine there's a tab about a quarter inch by quarter inch faces upwards and catches on one of the parts like a lock. and my caller for the shifter has no place for screws or a spring. is there supposed to be a spring behind the lever to keep in place? please help I know I can cut the pieces off the old lock plate and weld new ones on but it would be nicer to get something a little stronger and if nothing else at least the rubber part for the shifter thank you the bearing shifter and the housing needs to be cleaned and repacked full of grace which way do you press that bearing out without destroying it thank you I hope to hear from you 509-759-0997

    my bronco doesnt have any of those plungers or anything inside of the collar. I cant shift it over to get into second and third... my mind is blown, i think i have to remove the entire steering colum to figure it out

      You don't have an automatic transmission column if you do not have the stuff inside the collar. Put your mind back together and give WILD HORSES a call. 209-943-0991 or see our parts here

    I just can’t imagine that much pounding, beating and scuffing up the shifter collar in the factory.....even 55 years ago with far more primitive technology and tools. As a country we’ve really lost our knack for skilled craftsmanship.......

    • @wildhorses4x4
      @wildhorses4x4  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah...this video was made ten years. We've grown a lot as a business. What would you suggest be the best way to get the pin back in the collar and shift lever? To avoid scuffing the new collar, I think use that vice grip but what would you suggest?

    • @reinvnt
      @reinvnt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wildhorses4x4 Vice grip with rubber slips to protect could work. One of the vids I watched, (If possible) they leave the column in or install the new column then replace the pin. Also, they use pin removal tools specific to the pin size (right tool for the right job I guess) as well as a rubber mallet to pound something in - I'm sure guys from Gateway or ICON would be the best and most knowledgeable for these types of skilled works. I just hate paying that much for something (the damn shipping costs don't help) then muckin it up..........

      @@reinvnt Yeah, I gotcha. Skilled craftsmanship is definitely an art that takes years to acquire and with it being so rare, I guess that's why they charge through the roof.
