0:00 - Intro
BAD:
0:22 - The weird fit
The Corolla is a little under fire now with how hot the new Prius is BUT that’s not even what I’m talking about here - THIS XLE Hybrid has a very strange fit even within the Corolla family
This is the top trim
It’s the most expensive Corolla you can buy
And yet It’s also the least powerful Corolla
And the slowest Corolla…which is kinda weird as the hybrid
And if that wasn’t enough, it’s the only Corolla Hybrid you CANT get with AWD
0:54 - Rear seats
So sitting here in the rear seat, it’s a bit of a mixed bag
I’m not objectively offended by the space back here by any means
In fact, even at 6’1” I have several inches of legroom here
It’s headroom that’s the problem
And you DO get chargers and cupholders
But you DONT get vents or map pockets
1:21 - No sizzle aka the Prius problem
This shouldn’t really count as an objective point that we talk about in these videos so take this with a pinch of salt BUT it’s just not really that cool or interesting, especially with the new Prius
From a styling perspective, it’s pretty bland
Gray paint
16 in wheels
A sprinkle of chrome here and there
But really the blue hybrid badges are the only flair
The Prius is just significantly cooler now
It’s faster, better looking, and more practical
But it’s also more expensive
-
GOOD:
2:09 - The Fuel Economy
This is OBVIOUSLY the point of this car..I mean it has a drive mode button and the only two drive modes are ECO and not ECO
But this was the perfect car this week - I was shooting stuff for a client all week and I took the Corolla because i was doing just about 100 miles per day
All highway and pretty much all at 80 mph
AND IT STILL GOT OVER 50 MPG
And that’s on the highway! It gets even better off the highway
Plus you have all these fun little games like EV mode, your eco score, and your electric driving ratio screen
3:00 - The Tech
I was also impressed with the tech here given the segment and price point
8 inch screen
Toyota connected software
Wireless ACP
Reverse camera
Digital cluster
JBL audio $675 and weirdly adds in wireless charger
And that’s not even mentioning the toyota safety sense 3.0 which worked so well this week and I was very grateful to have it for all the highway and at the price point
3:47 - Interior luxy stuff
Again, pricepoint in mind, there’s a decent amount of lux touches here that I liked
It’s not as nice a design as the civic
But i like the two tone leather…this softex feels weirdly high end
Heated seats
Sunroof
All windows up/down - weird kink dont judge me
4:32 - The drive
And I logged a BUNCH of time in the saddle this week and it was honestly the perfect commuter car
It’s a really surprisingly quiet ride
The suspension is really soft, kind of old luxury that I really like in something like this
And yeah it’s slow
And yeah it’s not powerful - 138 hp and 105 lbft
But it get’s incredible fuel economy
It’s really comfy
The visibility, especially forward is phenomenal
And TSS 3.0 made it such an easy car to live with if you’re doing any highway
5:19 - The trunk
With everyone going to SUVs for more practicality and trunk space this Corolla is a silent reminder that sedans still pack plenty of cargo space
The trunk is genuinely large
The seats do fold 60/40, but not from the trunk
5:51 - The price
And finally we’ll talk about the most critical part of the car, the price
Corolla hybrid starts 23,050
As tested 29,231
Talked about all the little issues within the corolla family
BUT even as tested it’s cheaper than a civic touring
Also FWD and NOT hybrid
Elantra Hybrid Limited starts at the as tested price here
And cheaper than Prius - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Special thanks to our Patrons for their support of the channel! Corolla hybrid or Prius?
I just purchased the 2024 LE Hybrid and I love it. It does exactly what I need it to do: ultra reliable, best hybrid on the market, very basic with less things to break, will get me from a to b without leaving me on the side of the road, etc. I sold my 2017 Audi A4 and lost a lot of features, but I am past that point in my life.
Congratulations. How’s your fuel economy so far? Do you find it under powered at all in situations where you have to pass other cars and etc? Thanks
Yes. I got one also
@@TolgaDag-nk5wgI’m averaging 54.8mpg over 1900 miles, but that is strictly city miles and I constantly play the game of trying to use more electric power.
Do you ever worry about having your catalytic converter stolen with the 2024 model?
@@dolomanfork No, I’m fortunate to live in an area where that is not very common.
These cars save you money, they are inexpensive to run, and hybrid will save you money. It has same hybrid system as prius. SUV prices and truck prices are up since inflation, your going to see more people buy small cars like the corolla.
and its a brilliant affordable car
why does prius get better mpg if its bigger?
@@pedrohizzle2835 how it is engineered and built. Also the Prius is full know hybrid car, it was their first hybrid car and it knows to get better mpg in how it engineered.
... the hybrid SE Infrared though.... 🤩🤩🤩🤩
i got lucky and got one another customer backed out of. i love the car.
The Hybrid SE 2024 is a better looking car
Your review was just what the doctor (mechanic?) ordered. Our Gen 2 Prius is getting very long in the tooth and though the new Prius looks surprisingly nice it's a chunk of change. Oh, no one ever told us,"Hey, that 2013 Prius of yours is epic." Still looking but will buy something soon and your review helps the cause. btw, your video is really well done. I watch way too many car videos (subscribe to hundreds, primarily a result of my other cars), I hope you continue to build your channel.
Thanks for the support 🙏
I love all your vehicle reviews bro like the way you mention best and worst things..it is very easy for the consumer to decide based on the worst and best things..
I became fan of your channel 👍

Purchased a 2024 Corolla Hybrid XLE as a replacement for a buy back 2023 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited. The Elantra had more passenger and trunk room, more cubby storage, quicker acceleration, larger 10.25" screens (vs 7 & 8 ") and ventilated seats. The Corolla has softer "pseudo leather" seats, a bit better mpg (55.6 after 700 miles), smoother suspension, a more conventional cabin and traditional exterior. The optional JBL 800 watt/9 speaker stereo in the Corolla sounds a little better than the 8 speaker Bose in the Elantra but both fill the cabin quite well. Lastly, the Corolla was $2K cheaper. The main reason for the buy though is reliability as the Hyundai's battery died within three weeks. Pleased with the "boring" Corolla so far.
I have the 2023 SE AWD Hybrid (July 2023 delivery after 8-week wait) and I love it. No complaints so far except for: 1) the wireless charging pad which does not like phone cases (does not matter style and phone brand); 2) the front spoiler is also low whcih can be an issue in canadian winters; 3) easily scratched paint on plastic moulding (front spoiler); and 4) as for the 18' low profile rims / tires (nice looking) but would have preferred 17". I find that it is very peppy / quick acceleration as required. Much peppier than my old Prius V (2012) or a 2022 Prius Prime I tested. I recently saw a Corolla Cross Hydrid XSE locally and the driver told me he waited 2 years to get his. 'Got no time for dat...' The black trim with matt gray paint looked very sharp but the price, not so much. . Second Toyota car for me - I am hooked on their products / technology.
Dude - watch the clip on the audio. Whoa. Nice video.
I just got an le awd hybrid and so far it's been great rear seats area little small if you have tall friends and the interior is a little boring, otherwise the economy has been stellar, it's comfy and well equipped even at base trim, and it will be reliable and hold its value better than similar cars from any other brand
My daughter just bought a Corolla LE Hybrid AWD. She loves it. Lots of car for the money. On road use only. Excellent fuel economy.
Nice!
You wouldn't know it's the slowest if you get the 2024 SE. sport mode and that battery really helps with everyday acceleration. Still slower in a drag race of course but this is not the car to do that in!
Toyota really cares about the Corolla. It does the basics really really well and the Hybrid gets you 50 mpg easily.
What about its battery 🪫 like after how many miles i have to change the battery
Those are now yesteryear concerns. Toyota hybrid batteries will outlast your ownership of the vehicle. I have been driving Toyota/Lexus hybrids for last 15 years. No issues with batteries what so ever.
xle model with base wheels?
it's weird for sure. i dont think XLE comes with anything but the base bland wheels and chrome exterior. i'm getting a hybrid SE that has the 18" black wheels and no chrome. totally strange.
I heard that it struggles at higher speeds 70-80mph and the engine is very loud at those speeds. Did you find that to be true?
not relly no - did a lot of highway cruising in that range and it felt very sedate. of course there will be wind noise and road noise, but when maintaining that high speed the engine isnt working that hard and it's quiet
@@dwnshft good to know. I drive hw at 80 and this is important to know.
good question. thanks for asking this question for people like me.
Not true, I drive at 70-80 in my corolla se 2024 never have any issues with the engine being loud at all😊
My concern is this car is so low to the ground, what happens if you drive on deep potholes?
I have the Camry Hybrid now and it feels too big for me. Your height would fit better in the Camry Hybrid. That Corolla ivory two-tone interior just pops on camera and makes a tiny vehicle look big despite your giant body. I just wish the seats had the cooled/ventilated button.
If u put a leg weight on the wheel you can drive for hours hands free....
The new toyota app doesn't work, this allready the 7th issue that toyota can't solve
How is it weird that it is the slowest/least powerful engine. It's a hybrid which means an emphasis on gas savings and efficiency for the price. More power/speed is going to take away from those benefits and you might as well get a non-hybrid at that point. If you want more power/faster car, you are barking up the wrong tree (so to speak), that's what a GR corolla is for
He’s referring to that specific trim, the XLE. It’s surprising that its the most expensive of the corolla hybrids yet has the least powerful engine
@@Remiladesusansarah ehh, it's a hybrid. It's not known for its power. They can put the most powerful engine in there, but then whats the point when you are going to have reduced gas mileage? you are buying a hybrid, not a sports car, so a powerful engine isn't what buyers are looking for. Pick one or the other. At least you have that choice. In the past, it was you buy a Corolla or a Prius.
Corolla hybrids don't come with lithium battery. Instead, they're equipped with each NiMH batteries, the same type that powers your flashlights. How long will they last?
the factory warranty on the hybrids in the US is 10 years or 150, ooo miles.
@@docholiday1967 need to read fine print. I'm sure there're some exceptions.
@@viewlesswind have you read the fine print? im sure there are exclusions, as with any warranty. if i was you, i wouldnt worry about the shit unless you drive a corolla hybrid. btw, what do you drive?
@@docholiday1967 i only want to drive ICE cars and that's my way.
@@viewlesswind thats great. im happy with my 50mpg. 23 corolla hybrid infrared in underground gray is without a doubt the best built car i have ever owned. fuck the american and korean junk.
I love you more.... i want you
