    The fact that ai is being used on packaging yet the packaging is literally why we're being charged a premium for these dolls sure is a choice

    AI is so scary and it just blows my mind how accepting so many people are of it. It just as an artist it scares the living shit out of me. I also believe if we don’t stop these companies from using AI it’s going to end poorly for us. I just don’t think there is anyway we can stop them and that’s what scares me. Great video as always my friend 🤟🏽❤️💕🧿😊

      I think a lot of people view artists as a tiny demographic and therefore don’t think that AI is actually harmful, which is sad. There’s definitely no stopping it

    I hate it that people are like, "No, don't do this. I don't like it." and billion dollar companies are like, "DO IT ANYWAY. LET IT TAKE OVER THE ENTIRE WORLD".

      I agree with you wholeheartedly! It feels like these doll companies take everyone's feedback, makes note of all of the negative points, and forces them down our throats just to be petty. They don't care, so why should we when they release cheap cr@p....? I feel like all the doll companies should take a break and not release anything for a good year or two, and reevaluate what it means to put out quality products. Study up on dolls/playsets of the past, and what made them special. And the higher ups need to stop cutting costs too, that's a BIG part of the problem! It's the corner cutting cheap stuff that's making the doll world suffer.

    For me, the point of AI is that it's trained with pictures without permission and without paying their license. OpenAI admitted that if they would have to pay all the licenses required, they wouldn't have been able to create their Gen AI. However they do are getting money with their AI apps and suscriptions and taking benefit with something built from stealing data from everybody. Parting from this point, I can't aprove any use of generative AI. Also, Mattel uses it just to reduce cost and time, not to improve the quality.
    Leaving that aside, the faces of Holiday line (Teresa, Desiree and GG) are stunning, and Dream Besties are a really cute new line.

    Great video. I'm sad about the state of playline movie forward, but at least it gives me an opportunity to catch up on some dolls I had previously passed on. Barbie Extra will always have a special place in my heart.
    btw, nice wrist watch!

    I work with data and AI/machine learning. It's a terrible idea for a company like Mattel to replace artistry with artificial intelligence.
    The line "a person using AI is more likely to replace you" has become a buzzphrase in the industry, and it is more likely that the HR leader was referring to business roles. AI and machine learning have lots of uses in business processes besides art. They could be excited about their use to improve factory efficiencies, supply chains, or project management. There are so many applications besides art and design.

    I would never agree the AI could do better than human in terms of design, or even faster... it may be faster in drawing or illustrating. Until the designers/artists spend time and money to learn and practise skills there will be other arrogant enough to claim their jobs because they ''use the tool''... Isn't that sick?!

  • @andyfirechild9823
    @andyfirechild9823 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    If AI is gonna take all the creative jobs, what's left? Flipping burgers or trying to become a Wall Street bro??? AI should be used to make life easier, not make life meaningless. 🙃

  • @nieuwolt
    @nieuwolt 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    AI is a great topic to bring up when it comes to dolls. I think designers and artists need to be honest about using AI in their process. Personally, I use dolls in my stories and because of this articulation is paramount since dolls don’t change expressions. With AI I can use FaceApp to make them smile and I like that. I have tried using digital means to build expression into photos of my dolls and it’s fine except with full smiles. Those teeth are too much work and look weird. Otherwise I can draw expressions myself.
    I have also played around with other AI apps and overall I am not too impressed. If I can use it as a tool for my art I am happy. But I think the artist should acknowledge that Ai was used.
    Doll comment: Seeing the lovely old school Theresa on the holiday Barbie is a great move.

    The way the AI is so obvious in the background art seems like either no human gave it a final approval, or the human who did wanted to voice their protest. I can't blame them, but I agree it is a fight against the inevitable.

    It’s the first holiday collection I’ve liked in a while but the Generative AI leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. I still don’t at all agree with it, and it is definitely not a replacement for actual artists.

    So the robots really are taking over.
    Enjoyed the video! I'm most excited for the Desiree sculpt to make its return. I don't know how I feel about buying the AI box. I keep packaging despite unboxing dolls because it's like a piece of history and collaborative art. It's also sentimental because its tied to the doll's design. For the Holiday Barbies, I don't know what to think.
    Thanks for another great video! The thumbnail is quite something!

      Well they’ve been using Ai since 2020 in their designing process so you may already have packaging that was ai generated. It also makes me wonder about that corset 2021 holiday came with.

    I just got the Barbie Besties & I love them. I don't want these to ever replace the standard Barbie scale, but they're cute & different. With Rainbow High ( which I loved & collected ), going down hill, Mattel very smartly swooped in with these, and for a good price point.

    Just saw the holiday Barbie the Teresa and the Desiree. I like my 2000s era Teresa I got recently more. The Desiree just looks like Bessie Coleman wearing a cheap dress. I might get the Asian if she goes very cheap since I don't have a doll with that face mold.

    I don't care if they us AI on box art, as I'm not an in box collector. Well I have a couple, but not really for display. So, a plain box is good with me. I don't like some directions AI could take us, but it's gonna happen whether we like it or not.

    You're right she does look just like an early 2000's gen girl release with the gen mold and the screening. Just as long as she isn't pixelated! That would really ruin the illusion.

    Barbie Besties. There is only the Barbie of the group I like, but I wouldn't buy her. The Brooklyn is OK but the red girl's dimple face is off putting and the purple girl's head looks squashed down and gives funny proportions to her face

    Excellent video as always!! The holiday dolls are stunners as base dolls, yes even Millie which is kind of overused as a face mold. The redhead is just Gorgeous!! The shoes are very fun and the dress is actually pretty, but I think that it would also look good as a shorter dress with a layer of red tulle underneath. I know that a short holiday dress hasnt been used before but we are talking about modern barbie and people have been seen wearing knee or even uper knee length fancy dresses. Just saying!! That were the good things about them. The earings...I dont even want to start so I will just say nothing other than they dont match 😁😁😁 and the box is not good looking. I am also an artist and I dont have problems with AI as long is use by expert hands for specific purposes. I have to admit that I didnt understand that this was AI. When I saw the pachaging, the first thing that came into my head is "Get her out of there now" but because I dont like the aesthetics and how busy it is not because of AI. Also the Barbie besties are very cute but I will possibly skip on them (lack of space).

    You are too young to have experienced the dramatic change from pre personal computers and pre internet to what we have today. I believe the AI revolution will be similar but the changes will be even more dramatic. Overall, I think personal computers and the internet have improved our lives and I hope AI will do the same. One thing I have learned is that we have so little control over our lives and what helps is to be aware of what is happening and try to adapt.
