Ya I remember when it came out I was like “see it wouldn’t be bad if it wasn’t for the fact that you feed the dog it’s shit” like as a kid I thought it was cool that a Barbie could like take care of it’s dog and that it was realistic I think it’s just unfortunate execution
The gimmick of the Color Reveal can be fun for kids. But I think the major issue is the designs of the dolls. Mattel is relying TOO MUCH to this gimmick to the point that we have already like 18 waves of random dolls designs. Sometimes there one or two designs that can be nice, but most of the time you look at the dolls and be like "Who would pays 15 bucks for THAT?!"
Definitely creepy wording on the Growing Up Skipper packaging. Probably from the minds of middle aged men ugh. Also your makeup looks great, honestly can't see a difference with and without foundation.
12:56 When I was a kid I really wanted a marshmellow maker and an easy bake oven. What I opened for Christmas was a baby alive doll that pooped and had to have the diaper changed and I cried.
The Ashlynn EAH dress transforming isn't even the worst part... If you pull the skirt up and look at the legs, the torso is extra long to hold the mechanism for the skirt, but the doll is the same height so the legs are super super short. She looks ridiculous if you put her legs in front of her to sit down. My niece used to have this doll, but we don't have it anymore. Otherwise I would send you a picture because it is so hilarious 😂
Can definitely understand the need to recall the rollerblading Barbie. My sister and i got her when we were young, tossed the doll aside, and just made sparks with the rollerblades 🤣
Since pregnant Midge was my absolute favourite doll as a kid, I just HAVE to weigh in here 😁 As far as I know, the whole controversy was about her marital status rather than the pregnancy itself. I haven't done any research on this, but I vaguely remember hearing rumours about the doll initially not having a painted on wedding ring, which people were not happy about. The ring was (again, allegedly) added on later. Mine had a wedding ring for what it's worth 🤷♀ For the pregnancy gimmick itself, I personally think it is genius! Especially in comparison to other pregnant dolls, which had super creepy constructions inside of the doll where the stomach would actually OPEN UP and reveal the baby (talk about a reveal gimmick am I right 😅) Those versions are pretty unsettling, but the magnetic belly is such an elegant solution in my eyes 😌 I might be biased because she was THE doll of my childhood but then again I must have loved her that much for a reason 😉
Yep! I remember this doll being sold! She didn't come with a ring. Which... Gonna level with everyone? Because I had a friend with very stupid siblings who looked for loose plastic to eat, I had to take them all off of my Barbies if I brought them to play. Oh boy, a barbie I didn't have to do this with. Not so fast, my friend's mother was religiously insane and this Barbie was "living in sin". ...My friend was conceived before her parents were married and she was a giant hypocrite. My mother enjoyed laughing about this frequently. Didn't matter, it was sold out by the time I could ask for one for Christmas and I had lost interest. Lives in my mind rent free. Won't pay rent. Sits there laughing. Has some bloody marys with the pokemon burger king toys that the same woman claimed would magically murder her children to which I remember telling her "well maybe you could parent better?"
One gimmick that wasn’t mentioned that I think isn’t great is the hair rotation ones where the scalp of the doll rotates around to give her a different hairstyle or color, I just don’t think they ever looked good
OMG, THANK YOU. I really don't see what the issue is with pregnant Midge. Pregnancy is a natural and beautiful part of life, but people were "horrified"? Come on... I agree with you, at the time people were just really conservative about it... And then people complain about the belly coming off, and saying it's not "realistic". Like, really? It's a small plastic toy. They're not going to make a doll that can give birth the way a human does... Plus, realistic??? Dollhouses are missing at least one wall so a child can play in it with their dolls, and the house don't always have stairs because they're not needed, the kid just picks the doll up and puts it where they want it, yet people don't complain about the houses not being "realistic"... Idk, people baffle me
Omg I didn’t even know people were upset that the belly wasn’t realistic…hilarious cause you know the doll would’ve been even more hated if it WAS more accurate to life 🙄
There is one pregnant Barbie (I think?) that I find genuinely weird: The one that had the BABY be also pregnant. That's just gross and creepy. Midge is kinda weird to me but just because I liked my dolls for fantasy and action stories.
@@lydiagalantmotherf wait, what doll is THAT? see that i understand as being insanely weird; pregnant midge is fine, but who the hell greenlit that other doll?
Also im tired of ppl slamming teen talk barbie for saying “math is hard” when thats just one phrase in a billion of phrases multiple about encourging kids to go to school n get an education but also the same adults saying the line is sexist are the same adults who shrug off kids greatly strugglin w things like math, alot of them having a learning disablity
how is it targeting people with a learning disability? it's a reaction to how women are portrayed as unintelligent and bad at stem topics, not a slight against ND people.
@ ND ppl tend to struggle alot in math & often times dont have their struggles taken seriously n are shrugged off instead(im saying this as someone w adhd , autism & an intellectual disablity) the same adults who threw a tantrum over the doll completely ignore ND kids who struggle alot w subjects like math and instead paint them as dumb & lazy , the line isnt sexist its simply saying math is hard which it is-the doll has tons of lines encourging girls to study but bcus she said one negative thing abt math thats all everyone cared abt
@ saying math is hard isnt damn sexist espically when the doll has billion of phrases encourging girls to be educated do some research before callin something sexist hope this help!!
Pooping toys can help with potty training. I don't have kids of my own, but I have many nieces and nephews, and obviously they all had to go through this whole potty training phase. As weird or gross as it seems to an adult, when you normalize body functions, or have something to explain it in a way the child can understand, it can help them through the process.
If I had to guess, id say the problem with the shaving Ken doll is that it could indirectly encourage a kid to play with their parents razor- which could end,,,, not good
I'd like to mention, the Rainbow High Winter dolls say to use distilled or warm water to prevent mold growth in the instruction booklet (it's that fake snow stuff that's inside the clothes) But yeah it can and will mold after like a week, or at the very least start gaining a mildew smell.
@@gothgammy666 while it doesn't 100% prevent it, warm water helps to discourage mold growth. Also a lot of bottled water brands are distilled nowadays anyways so it's not like someone would need to buy some hyper-specific brand, just a regular bottle of water from the gas station that was heated up in a coffee mug will do.
Never was negatively affected by the Teresa pregnant doll. It just features a natural thing, it was educational. The same care should have been used for Growing-on Skipper doll (except for the braist gimmick, BAD idea) to educate children. It took me a few minutes to understand the problem with Barbue Birthday Party doll... Your way to describe it was so hilarious. Thank for the laught ! XD
The drama around the Pregnant Midge doll makes me feel strange because I had it as a kid and I absolutely adored it, but I also came from a house where pregnancy and birth as a concept wasn't hidden awary from me when I was young, nor do I understand why it would be. Maybe its because I was raised that way, at least for a bit, but it also makes me wish the doll wasn't so.. villainized? I guess?
I'm honestly surprised that parents even TRY to hide the concept of pregnancy and birth from their kids. How do they expect to explain potential siblings? My mom showed my then-5-year-old brother her fresh C-section scar to explain why he couldn't sit in her lap for a while and he was fine. I certainly never cared about her breastfeeding any of my siblings, even though I was 9 when the youngest was born and I just getting to the age when all bodies seemed weird
pregnant barbie was on my childhood best friends wishlist for her birthday and i thought it was the coolest thing ever. i never was a doll kid, but this one i played with when i came over to my friends house
I also don't understand the hate on the Midge & Baby doll. Some says it encourages teenage pregnancy (Midge is canonically an adult), others say that it shows a single mother (Midge is married). But I'm like???? Where did they got these info from??? I also think that, probably where I live, she wouldn't be as controversial, as there's tons of cheap bootleg dolls with that gimmick here, my ex-sister in law had one. Edit: 22:54 as someone who wants to use resin in the future, WHAT THE HELL THEY WERE THINKING???? Resin is a material that should be handled with care, many people wear gloves and respiratory masks because of how risky it is to use it. Marketing such thing to KIDS, WITHOUT ANY KIND OF PROTECTION, is insane (in a negative way).
Honestly, the Video Girl Barbie is such a cute gimmick to have, because it could’ve allowed children to connect with their friends if they went on vacation, by sending them videos of how they’re doing and any games they play, but because there are so many disgusting people in the world, that concept turned sour real quick.
IT WAS SUPER HILARIOUS WHEN YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT THE BALLOON BLOWUP BIRTHDAY BARBIE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU TURNED YOUR HEAD AND WAS BURSTING LAUGHING, SAME ENERGY!😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I was a kid in the 70s and had Growing Up Skipper, and my friends had Kissing Barbie and Winking Western Barbie. I can tell you I thought the Skipper was kind of weird, but I didn't think too much beyond that. The winking Barbie looked much better when her vinyl was fresh. I think I read somewhere that they used different plastics around the eyes, and they have melted due to chemical reactions over the years.
There are a TON off Western Winking Barbie’s mint in box that look like new available from resellers & eBay so I have to call out that as nonsense. The eyes were just the hard plastic that the body is made of. Just like the myth that polypropylene hair degrades naturally over time, this is just plastic, so unless chemicals have been introduced, it would not be degraded in 45 years. Harder solid plastics take hundreds of years to begin break down, softer plastics take about 100 years to begin to break down.
i had the winking western Barbie. And it was just as creepy new as it is now. When she closed her eyes the almost neon light blue eyelids would show. She had the weirdest , clown-like vibe in her silver polyester fringed cowgirl costume. The creepiest Barbie I had.
I’m a teacher and the math one is definitely something I think shouldn’t be given to super young kids. I’m specifically a kindergarten teacher so I teach beginning/basic math and we get a TON of kids every year who haven’t ever tried math and still come in with the mentality that it’s too hard and that they can’t do it because they’re surrounded by messaging that /tells/ them that. I think with that kids that already have experience with math its fine, because yeah it /is/ hard, but when you go in for the first time with the expectation that it’s hard and that you can’t do it, that hinders your ability to learn it. That’s why we have messaging that doesn’t say its /easy/ but instead goes for “you can do it!” or something of the likes, saying something is hard like that is considered negative context given to the kid before they have anything else given to them. Again, for even slightly older kids I don’t think it’s that bad, but I see the effects of this kind of stuff every day and it’s really difficult to get a kid OUT of the mentality that’s been fed to them. (Although again, I don’t think it’s really that bad because yes math is hard especially when they’re older but a lot of kids are able to figure out basic kindergarten age math with ease and the biggest issue we face is that they THINK it will be hard so they wont TRY it.) but I don’t think that kids should be shown that they SHOULD think math is hard just because they heard someone say it. Kids unquestionably repeat what they hear as fact, so that means that it can stunt their potential, I grew up to be actually pretty good at math but when I was first learning it I had a difficult time simply because I had the mentality that it was hard, so it was hard. Anyway, cute video! :)
My older sister still has her tanner dog (parents didn’t know about the recall) and considering she ate pennies, hot wheels bumpers, hot wheels tires, and anything else she could swallow it’s a miracle she never ate the magnetic poop
There was a TH-camr called EllieVToys. She was my favourite LEGO Friends reviewer. She made a pregnant Sophie, which I loved. Basically there was a character called Sophie in a hospital set and they made her a pregnant one too, which I loved and always wanted sadly wasn't official 😂 But I love that she wasn't afraid to do that, or include a bottle of wine in her homes, or say OMG. She was nice, fun to watch, she just was great. And she expanded my vocabulary, made it clear that dolls were for everyone and everyone was welcome at her channel. I loved that she made her channel way more family and not kids only. Still to this day, I am subscribed to EllieVToys. The original Ms Rachel but for older audiences and a DollTuber.
As a collector of creepy dolls in addition to fashion dolls, boy did I want a Mystixx doll; but yeah I don't think it as a wide spread appeal type deal...
At first, I thought the Ghouls Alive dolls were kind of cool because I am obsessed with talking or singing dolls. However, I will not be buying a battery operated Clawdeen who literally does or says nothing but a cliché werewolf howl. Also, it’s even more underwhelming for me since I can’t even see any glowing or lights happening and can only listen to the sounds. The reason I like other singing dolls like my singing Disney Princess ones is because some of them sing a whole minute of their main song, and they say phrases that are specific to the doll and aren’t in their respective movies. They are also bigger than regular fashion dolls, which is really cool. They are called the Disney Princess My Singing Friend dolls if you want to check them out. They even have 15 inch talking and singing versions of Mirabel from Encanto and Asha from Wish. I have the Mirabel one and in order for her to say more phrases than she does when you just press her button, you have to put her little butterfly accessory into her hand. I think that is cool because butterflies are a big symbol in the movie and all of the dolls in this line come with little pets. Having Mirabel‘s butterfly also be a part of her singing feature feels really cool and unique to this particular doll. The butterfly is very pretty and well sculpted, and even though she doesn’t sing as much as the other dolls, she is still a really fun and detailed doll.
I can’t believe the horrifying 2007 ex machina singing Barbie animatronic didn’t show up here, it’s genuinely the most uncanny valley thing ever created 😭
Kissing and Western Barbie are actually terrifying if you look at the back of their heads. They basically have a mask sewn on in the back and tied off with some thread.
I never got why people hated on pregnant Midge lol. Seems like a bunch of adults thinking something is 'creepy' when kids who played with it never thought twice about it.
So, I had Ghouls Alive Clawdeen, and she felt very...wrong. Even as a young child i noticed that everything about her felt cheap. So my theory is that all the budget went into the mechanisms.
I actually kinda love the transforming Lagoona doll because her first look is giving off 60s vibes to me and her transformed version is sort of sporty looking which is very her imo! Btw you didn’t look weird in this video don’t worry, the look you have is really cool imo! Love ur vids!
I also really liked mystixx and I had the clawdeen ghouls alive because since birth I’ve been a fiend for horrifying looking dolls 😂 Edit: I’m so sorry if you saw my first attempt at writing this comment my one braincell is just gone apparently 😭😭
I LOVED shaving Ken. Mine was a newer release than the one shown, but he was my only Ken I had. He was the only version fun enough for me to ever want. His hair quickly became a giant poof ball once the gel washed out from all the water, but he was such a blast
I honestly feel like Pregnant Midge was always educational and was never a bad doll at all. She literally had a painted on wedding ring as well, so the context clues were always there. As for Barbie Color Reveal, those were always overrated and overpriced in my opinion. And molded on clothes on dolls are terrible in general. As for the Rainbow High Winter Wonderland dolls and the Rainbow High Creative Crystals lines, the gimmicks with those dolls are just weird and unnecessary to me, especially when those lines are being marketed to kids.🖤💜
i really have to wonder if there’s a bingo card for bad doll ideas that mga’s trying to hit with the reboot rainbow high dolls 😩 it seems like each new line is progressively worse! the miniverse capsules are marked for ages 8+ … which is still delusional, resin is not safe. but like you pointed out, reboot high is targeted to an even younger audience - iirc it’s ages 4+. i sure don’t know an 8yo i would trust with resin, even supervised. i’m not actually sure i’d trust an adult with resin either! so i definitely wouldn’t with a very young child. 😩
I love your " negative " videos! Rant videos are often stressful, but these are so light and fun to watch. Also, your eyeshadow game is always on point :)
It's like the boy version of toy hoovers, baby dolls, etc. Like "Wow I wanna be like my mom and my older sister" but "Wow I wanna be like my dad and my older brother"
Last comment-mga just doesnt care about how dangerous the gimmicks can be, they slap a gimmick n send the toy w no warnings what so ever Their only response to complaints about the resin in miniverse was to recall it n claim “we are working on a safer recipe” even tho there is no safe rasin n now they are making another line with resin & dont bother putting a warning Their just gonna get sued again they dont get that not every single doll line needs a gimmick
Hmmm I posted a link to the instructions for these dolls from the MGA store that includes numerous warnings… They were never sued that’s disinformation.
@ youtube doesnt accept links and even then the warning isnt on the box itself-even lego put a big warning about a set simply containing a battery This line contains resin which is extremely dangerous and not safe for kids , mga recently had to recall a miniverse line bcus it contained resin and the resin hurt kids-how are you gonna go though that only to go back and make another line containing the same dangerous substance ??
@@gothgammy666 there is no such thing as “safe resin” resin is a dangerous product that shouldnt be handled by kids saying “urrp we changed the formula!!” Is a load of bs
I love this video!! I'm a doll collector and i have both the camera barbie and the roller flash skating ken doll with the lighters! I love playing with them, they're so silly 😭
The 2016 Ever After High Dolls along with the Budget Dolls are terrible! 😩 I hate the molded-on tops, ugly sculpted leggings, lack of articulation, and their faces always look too childish. The other dolls from different lines, they're fine. 🙂 I still like the concept, and the base doll, but sometimes the outfits don't agree with me that much. 😐
I had one of the video recording Barbies growing up!! Mine had a black short sleeve where the video played on her stomach, with the buttons on her belt though, so maybe it was a different model. I loved her a lot (and still have her), but she was hard to play with because her torso was so stiff and hard so you could barely move her legs haha! Her battery eventually died and I was never able to make her charger work… which was a shame as I surely have a lot of old cute memories on there as a child I’d love to see now 😊. The safety concern is unfortunately very valid, but as a kid I loved her to bits when I got her! She now stands on my desk shelf with a few other toys I had as a child as a mini time capsule ❤
ok my thoughts on some of the dolls: growing up skipper yea the wording on stuff is weird and a little gross but the concept could be great for young teen/preteen girls showing them "hey bodies are weird they change heres a doll with a weird changing body too" idk colour change barbie. ok cool ish concept. ive got a hot take that i actually like washing off the keys from the first few waves of monster high skulltimate secrets but yea i think having to do that for an entire doll would be so annoying because the goop paint stuff would get into all the nooks and crannies of everything. i like doing the skultimate keys because theyre little and barley have any annoying areas to get into and if some paint smudges stain them they end up looking kinda cool but that happening on a doll would make it look like shit. also probably not the best thing to get for younger or irresponsible kids. as someone with extreme tokophobia (i physicaly cant say the word the fear relates to please look it up) i had to skip the midge doll. not a problem with the video just stinky evil phobia being stinky and evil. western barbie looks high. barbie with the dog teaches kids with pets to clean up after them. nuff said. those poopsie things however? fucking disgusting. the shaving ken is kinda weird but kinda cool. very creative use of that colour changing plastic. ghouls alive, i saw theese as a kid and wanted them real bad. i remember thinking the art they did on the boxes for them was so cool. tbh i do wanna try and get robecca one day. also if i remeber right there was a frankie one that made electric shock noises and lit up? ok ive got the transforming draculaura doll and i think the idea is the backwhen the wings are folded down its meant to look like a train for the skirt? but it just looks kinda shit tbh. also fun fact about the lagonna dolls design matel has done that design before on a barbie. for the first mermaid tale doll they did that transformation design for her exept im pretty sure there was no plastic at the top so it just looks like a hoodie dress. thats another doll i wanted really bad as a kid. ashlynn ella. again another case of matel reusing the same design from an older movie barbie. this time it was the princess charm school dolls and i had one as a kid and i really liked it i thought it was cool but sadly it broke. exact same design even with the clip on top. as an aspiering doll customiser id love to customise a mystixx one day. the idea i think is cool too.
Growing up Skipper was a wonderful doll, it was such a great opportunity to reach girls Skipper's age. Growing boobs is scary and once you start doing it, you're told you're too old for Barbies. Same as pregnant Midge, it was the holier-than-thou crowd that made it an issue. I see your point about some of the marketing problems with Skipper, and maybe like you said it was just different at the time. But tbh I don't think many if any 12-15 year olds are reading the doll boxes
I also loved the dog walking set as a kid, I had it, it was a great tool to learn that dogs require taking care of, and I was also smart enough not to swallow a magnet at 8 😅
Honestly, I personally don’t think the Ghouls Alive line was that bad. Though I do agree with Clawdeen looking the worst out of all of them, she's giving Tyra Banks lmfao
This might be an unpopular opinion here but…..the Rainbow High Winter Wonderland dolls shouldn’t have a gimmick at all! I think the effort the designers put into the outfits and overall presentation of the dolls to match this theme is enough on its own! Btw I love that you also love the Sunny doll from this line 🩷🩷☀️
Yes! I agree also, if they wanted an "effect" they could've just used shimmery fabric like the Monster High Fearidescent line did. That whole liquid thing is disgusting for something a child is playing with.
I think the pregnant midge hate is bullshit. I had a Steffi for 80% of my younger life who had the same gimmick and I never found it weird cause I understood the concept and I loved her to death (literally cause one of her legs went missing years later so I had to say goodbye to her)
The camera Barbie had an Action Man counterpart, but with an actual analogue camera. He had a special cavity in his body where you would put film, see through his torso and get your pictures printed if you got your negatives to any photography store. It was a pretty cool toy, me and my brother's first touch with photography in general, and I remember my father (a big analogue photography nerd) being amazed that a fully working camera was in a toy doll.
I had a shaving Ken doll growing up. I thought he was cool. lol I also had a Kelly doll who you could give water to and you’d squeeze her heart shaped tummy to make her pee! She came with a toilet that also had toilet paper which I thought was awesome for some reason. Also remember staring at those Mystix dolls at toys r us cuz they were directly across from MH and probably woulda bought one if they weren’t so pricey. If I remember right they were more expensive than MH.
Your laughter is really fun!! It makes me want to laugh with you. Also your makeup looks fine in my opinion, I can't tell the difference from your face in other videos, so it must be good sign.
first time watcher here, havent finished the video yet but i just wanna say that my first thought when you appeared was "oh my god, they're really beautiful" and after a while you talked abt how insecure you felt without your foundation on and it made me feel heartbroken cuz i wish you could see yourself through my eyes cuz u would have a hard time finding anything unflattering abt urself! ❤
Maybe the roller blade Barbie could be an issue, and the camera doll; but I don’t see it with the other Barbie’s. I mentioned the pregnant one because I heard sooo many conservative people throwing fits about that doll. It’s really bizarre to me, but what some people get upset about makes no sense to me The one’s I think are the worst are the rainbow high slime dress dolls, and the new ones that use resins. It makes no sense, as you said. I think whoever they got to create dolls, needs replacing because they are making some really stupid decisions. Sorry if these thoughts upset anyone and it’s not meant to 😊
Update, I found the books I need I found book 4 of ghouls rule in my local dollar tree a while ago and now I know 1-3 is easily trackable to find. :) I want to slowly get more monster high stuff
You look fabulous without foundation and don’t need to be self-conscious about it at all 😊 Yes! child free here as well 😄 That being said, I would have liked the pregnant Midge as a kid since I had several teachers who were pregnant. OMG I totally forgot about that birthday doll, yep there’s no other way to see her then what you said 😂😂😂😂😂 I had no idea that’s how the Rainbow High winter wonderland dolls worked! 😮
I haven’t watched you before but your skin is fine! You have beautiful, smooth, glowing skin and you look fantastic without foundation. ❤ This video is also really fun!
I had the sparks rollerblades and they were so fun lol I don’t kno if I had the doll bc they were from my older sisters but my Barbie’s proudly road those in style 😄
As a child i actually wanted to have that pooping dog toy. Now im just wondering why i liked that so much. Also i did own a pregnant barbie doll. Unfortunately she lost her head
I think the roller blade Barbie could be redone with today's technology. Like use low power LED lights that charge with motion. Like shake the doll or something.
The color reveal Barbie dolls are the absolute worst. I wish Mattel would eliminate the color reveal and other cheap gimmicky dolls focus on making better quality play line dolls.
Worst part about blind packaging 🥲 idk much about them but there might be codes or something you could look up to find the right ones? I know some brands have that just not sure about Barbie
I just wanted to correct a bit of misunderstanding about MGA’s voluntary recall of Make it Mini toy line. There’s a lot of bad information & unnecessary anti-resin hysteria going around since that recall. The resin recall was because they had chemicals that are banned in products marketed to kids under 14, not because UV resin is inherently dangerous. There were 3 complaints (2 mild skin irritations & an asthmatic disregarded the safety instructions & didn’t wear a mask & had an asthma attack while using the resin) in total out of 36 million sold units. So the “dangers” are being wildly exaggerated by some people in the MGA Miniverse community. They have reformulated the resin without the banned chemicals. So now they can market this new resin in any MGA line marketed to kids under 14. But people need to stop conflating epoxy resin with UV resin, which are very different things. UV resin is not highly toxic, just follow the manufacturer instructions. Getting a bit on your skin it’s highly unlikely to hurt 98% of users. The amount of resin being used is very small, not large tubs like adult crafters use in their hobby. A couple grams of UV resin is unlikely to create fumes that could cause breathing problems. Masks aren’t even recommended unless you have a diagnosed breathing condition, like COPD or asthma. I think mold in the winter snow Rainbow High dolls is probably more dangerous. They need to be more cautious with these ridiculous gimmicks before just throwing out ill conceived dolls onto the toy shelves in stores. MGA seem like experts at destroying a doll line more than creating long lasting successful dolls.
the pregnant Midge is weird - i bought her from ebay a couple of years ago and she is way too young looking. I liked the Midge head sculpt but I had to rebody/rehead her to have an older face. And the purple polyester maternity dress was just dreadful - for a fashion doll to be soooo unfashionable just made the doll even less understandable.
For me the pooping dog grosses me out because the pellets don't change so all I can think is that you're feeding your dog poop.
That’s fair haha
I literally came to comment the exact same thing 😩😩
I had one that was the same gimmick, but it was with a horse instead. It was so weird to me
Ya I remember when it came out I was like “see it wouldn’t be bad if it wasn’t for the fact that you feed the dog it’s shit” like as a kid I thought it was cool that a Barbie could like take care of it’s dog and that it was realistic I think it’s just unfortunate execution
My only Ken was a shaving Ken. But he was a collab with Old Spice. I still remember how that doll smelled! It was really nice haha.
Also I agree that both the pregnant and teen Barbie could be educational. I never shared my take so I’m glad someone else agrees 😭🫶🏽
Definitely creepy wording on the Growing Up Skipper packaging. Probably from the minds of middle aged men ugh. Also your makeup looks great, honestly can't see a difference with and without foundation.
"Tall curvy teenager" and "she's cute and young again" Kind of creeped me out.
That was so creepy but also reminds me of a lot of things from that era…it would have been a gross time to be going through puberty for sure!
12:56 When I was a kid I really wanted a marshmellow maker and an easy bake oven. What I opened for Christmas was a baby alive doll that pooped and had to have the diaper changed and I cried.
I would have cried too damn I’m sorry
Edited cause I can’t spell apparently
if i got something like that i'd cry too tbh
The Ashlynn EAH dress transforming isn't even the worst part... If you pull the skirt up and look at the legs, the torso is extra long to hold the mechanism for the skirt, but the doll is the same height so the legs are super super short. She looks ridiculous if you put her legs in front of her to sit down. My niece used to have this doll, but we don't have it anymore. Otherwise I would send you a picture because it is so hilarious 😂
Horrible but thank you for sharing 😂
Can definitely understand the need to recall the rollerblading Barbie. My sister and i got her when we were young, tossed the doll aside, and just made sparks with the rollerblades 🤣
Thus the budding life of many pyromaniacs began
Since pregnant Midge was my absolute favourite doll as a kid, I just HAVE to weigh in here 😁
As far as I know, the whole controversy was about her marital status rather than the pregnancy itself.
I haven't done any research on this, but I vaguely remember hearing rumours about the doll initially not having a painted on wedding ring, which people were not happy about. The ring was (again, allegedly) added on later.
Mine had a wedding ring for what it's worth 🤷♀
For the pregnancy gimmick itself, I personally think it is genius! Especially in comparison to other pregnant dolls, which had super creepy constructions inside of the doll where the stomach would actually OPEN UP and reveal the baby (talk about a reveal gimmick am I right 😅)
Those versions are pretty unsettling, but the magnetic belly is such an elegant solution in my eyes 😌
I might be biased because she was THE doll of my childhood but then again I must have loved her that much for a reason 😉
I think people misunderstood "worst gimmicks" for "controversial Barbies"
Idk, people baffle me
Omg I didn’t even know people were upset that the belly wasn’t realistic…hilarious cause you know the doll would’ve been even more hated if it WAS more accurate to life 🙄
@FaeryTaleDolls right???? Lol!
@@lydiagalantmotherf that one was an art piece not an actual commercial doll
Also im tired of ppl slamming teen talk barbie for saying “math is hard” when thats just one phrase in a billion of phrases multiple about encourging kids to go to school n get an education but also the same adults saying the line is sexist are the same adults who shrug off kids greatly strugglin w things like math, alot of them having a learning disablity
You're right, these parents would blame a toy and not help their kids with their education 🙃
how is it targeting people with a learning disability? it's a reaction to how women are portrayed as unintelligent and bad at stem topics, not a slight against ND people.
@@danielmendes8975none of that justifies the sexism of a doll targeted at girls saying that math is hard. hope this helps!
You can tell I’m not around a lot of kids cause that never crossed my mind 😅 but that makes tons of sense!
I actually wanted this shaving fun Ken when I was a kid. I never got him, but I remember seeing the commercial and wanting him.
It's really nice to see you here! I subscribe to you both. Sweet vibes. 🙂🖐️👍
If I had to guess, id say the problem with the shaving Ken doll is that it could indirectly encourage a kid to play with their parents razor- which could end,,,, not good
Okay that I can understand
I'd like to mention, the Rainbow High Winter dolls say to use distilled or warm water to prevent mold growth in the instruction booklet (it's that fake snow stuff that's inside the clothes) But yeah it can and will mold after like a week, or at the very least start gaining a mildew smell.
How is warm water going to prevent mold?
No kids is going to wait patiently for mom or dad to remember to buy a bottle of distilled water 😂
Winking Barbie: Yes, creepy, stoner eyes, but....what's going on with the lower half of her face??? 🤔🤷 Yikes! 😬
That’s just her face sculpt
The real problem with Happy Family Midge is that she's wearing heels after having a baby. Like Midge how do you have the strength to do that
I was a kid when video girl barbie came out, I was terrified of her from a body horror standpoint lol
Appreciate the input from someone who’s more of an expert/experienced on the subject!
My older sister still has her tanner dog (parents didn’t know about the recall) and considering she ate pennies, hot wheels bumpers, hot wheels tires, and anything else she could swallow it’s a miracle she never ate the magnetic poop
also i LOVE pregnant midge (ew not like that 😂) because she makes the barbie universe feel so much more real and i can imagine her personality 😂
You have never looked prettier! The natural look suits you too ❤❤❤ thanks for more fun and entertaining doll content 🙏🏻😍🤩
I just woke up and I’m getting emotional thank you!!
@ 😍😘😻😘
My friend’s big sister had the Barbie with the lighter roller blades- scared the hell outta me! Haha
I can’t believe the horrifying 2007 ex machina singing Barbie animatronic didn’t show up here, it’s genuinely the most uncanny valley thing ever created 😭
You're talking about the Chat Divas doll, yeah? I don't know, I think they're pretty cool!
I also really liked mystixx and I had the clawdeen ghouls alive because since birth I’ve been a fiend for horrifying looking dolls 😂
Edit: I’m so sorry if you saw my first attempt at writing this comment my one braincell is just gone apparently 😭😭
your face looks amazing, I was wondering what foundation you used and you said you didn’t use any ??? That’s some witch craft level of perfection
Stop thank you 😭 ♥️
You have a natural glow and great skin, you don't need foundation, just my opinion. 🙂🖐️
Ehehe thank you on multiple counts ♥️
I'm not a doll person but I honestly quite enjoyed this video, amazing work!
I had shaveing Ken as a kid. I loved it he would shave for dates and to hide from the police lol.
It's like the boy version of toy hoovers, baby dolls, etc. Like "Wow I wanna be like my mom and my older sister" but "Wow I wanna be like my dad and my older brother"
Last comment-mga just doesnt care about how dangerous the gimmicks can be, they slap a gimmick n send the toy w no warnings what so ever
Their only response to complaints about the resin in miniverse was to recall it n claim “we are working on a safer recipe” even tho there is no safe rasin n now they are making another line with resin & dont bother putting a warning
Their just gonna get sued again they dont get that not every single doll line needs a gimmick
They have changed their resin formula over 6 months ago.
Hmmm I posted a link to the instructions for these dolls from the MGA store that includes numerous warnings…
They were never sued that’s disinformation.
@ youtube doesnt accept links and even then the warning isnt on the box itself-even lego put a big warning about a set simply containing a battery
This line contains resin which is extremely dangerous and not safe for kids , mga recently had to recall a miniverse line bcus it contained resin and the resin hurt kids-how are you gonna go though that only to go back and make another line containing the same dangerous substance ??
@@gothgammy666 there is no such thing as “safe resin” resin is a dangerous product that shouldnt be handled by kids saying “urrp we changed the formula!!” Is a load of bs
I love this video!! I'm a doll collector and i have both the camera barbie and the roller flash skating ken doll with the lighters! I love playing with them, they're so silly 😭
I made a post on my bluesky spreading awareness about the rainbow high resin dolls. Here's hoping those dolls don't sell at all
@@CaptainEnrei they likely would still be sold by adults & older teens bug lets hope kids wont get them n end up getting hurt by them
The 2016 Ever After High Dolls along with the Budget Dolls are terrible! 😩 I hate the molded-on tops, ugly sculpted leggings, lack of articulation, and their faces always look too childish. The other dolls from different lines, they're fine. 🙂 I still like the concept, and the base doll, but sometimes the outfits don't agree with me that much. 😐
i wanted that camera barbie SO BAD when i was a kid 😂 im actually pretty sure my friend or i had one
I really like your overall aesthetic this video; very ethereal like a fallen angel 😇❤
Eee thank you ♥️
I had one of the video recording Barbies growing up!! She now stands on my desk shelf with a few other toys I had as a child as a mini time capsule ❤
ok my thoughts on some of the dolls:
growing up skipper yea the wording on stuff is weird and a little gross but the concept could be great for young teen/preteen girls showing them "hey bodies are weird they change heres a doll with a weird changing body too" idk
colour change barbie. ok cool ish concept. ive got a hot take that i actually like washing off the keys from the first few waves of monster high skulltimate secrets but yea i think having to do that for an entire doll would be so annoying because the goop paint stuff would get into all the nooks and crannies of everything. i like doing the skultimate keys because theyre little and barley have any annoying areas to get into and if some paint smudges stain them they end up looking kinda cool but that happening on a doll would make it look like shit. also probably not the best thing to get for younger or irresponsible kids.
as someone with extreme tokophobia (i physicaly cant say the word the fear relates to please look it up) i had to skip the midge doll. not a problem with the video just stinky evil phobia being stinky and evil.
western barbie looks high.
barbie with the dog teaches kids with pets to clean up after them. nuff said. those poopsie things however? fucking disgusting.
the shaving ken is kinda weird but kinda cool. very creative use of that colour changing plastic.
ghouls alive, i saw theese as a kid and wanted them real bad. i remember thinking the art they did on the boxes for them was so cool. tbh i do wanna try and get robecca one day. also if i remeber right there was a frankie one that made electric shock noises and lit up?
ok ive got the transforming draculaura doll and i think the idea is the backwhen the wings are folded down its meant to look like a train for the skirt? but it just looks kinda shit tbh. also fun fact about the lagonna dolls design matel has done that design before on a barbie. for the first mermaid tale doll they did that transformation design for her exept im pretty sure there was no plastic at the top so it just looks like a hoodie dress. thats another doll i wanted really bad as a kid.
ashlynn ella. again another case of matel reusing the same design from an older movie barbie. this time it was the princess charm school dolls and i had one as a kid and i really liked it i thought it was cool but sadly it broke. exact same design even with the clip on top.
as an aspiering doll customiser id love to customise a mystixx one day. the idea i think is cool too.
Western Winking Barbie came out in 1980. I got her for Christmas that year and LOVED HER!!!
as always you have the greatest video premises! this was extra fun.
I also loved the dog walking set as a kid, I had it, it was a great tool to learn that dogs require taking care of, and I was also smart enough not to swallow a magnet at 8 😅
this is the first time i'm watching you and i just have to say you have one of the prettiest smiles i've ever seen ! loved the video and your vibe
That’s so nice omg 😭 Thank you! ♥️
I totally agree! Half of what bothers me about the designs is the weird plastic, would’ve been a much more fun line just letting the dolls shine
Yes! I agree also, if they wanted an "effect" they could've just used shimmery fabric like the Monster High Fearidescent line did. That whole liquid thing is disgusting for something a child is playing with.
I would love to see Tony react to the blowing (balloons) Barbie 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly I showed him and his reaction was shockingly underwhelming boo
I think the pregnant midge hate is bullshit. I had a Steffi for 80% of my younger life who had the same gimmick and I never found it weird cause I understood the concept and I loved her to death (literally cause one of her legs went missing years later so I had to say goodbye to her)
I had a Shaving Ken! I hated that the had a beard, so he was always the villain.
And Roller Blade Barbie! Her articulated forearm broke off so she was always the mother.
I think People dont like the poop dog because he eats back his... buisness
Your laughter is really fun!! It makes me want to laugh with you.
Also your makeup looks fine in my opinion, I can't tell the difference from your face in other videos, so it must be good sign.
You’re very kind thank you ♥️
27:15 Here comes the first Enchantimals prototype dolls ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
first time watcher here, havent finished the video yet but i just wanna say that my first thought when you appeared was "oh my god, they're really beautiful" and after a while you talked abt how insecure you felt without your foundation on and it made me feel heartbroken cuz i wish you could see yourself through my eyes cuz u would have a hard time finding anything unflattering abt urself! ❤
That’s so kind of you omg 😭♥️ Thank you!
This was my first impression of you and it made me want to stick around. I think you needed to hear that. I saw you and thought you were great.
That’s honestly really sweet of you to say, happy to have you and thank you ♥️
Maybe the roller blade Barbie could be an issue, and the camera doll; but I don’t see it with the other Barbie’s. Sorry if these thoughts upset anyone and it’s not meant to 😊
I had happy family midge as a kid, I never knew she was such a big deal.
This is a good video to listen to while looking up monster high books now that my family is asleep and I dont have to listen to their judgement.
Update, I found the books I need
I found book 4 of ghouls rule in my local dollar tree a while ago and now I know 1-3 is easily trackable to find.
:)
I want to slowly get more monster high stuff
You look fabulous without foundation and don’t need to be self-conscious about it at all 😊
Yes! child free here as well 😄 That being said, I would have liked the pregnant Midge as a kid since I had several teachers who were pregnant.
OMG I totally forgot about that birthday doll, yep there’s no other way to see her then what you said 😂😂😂😂😂
I had no idea that’s how the Rainbow High winter wonderland dolls worked! 😮
Thank you friend ♥️ I agree, even as a kid I knew I didn’t want my own but I would have been FASCINATED by the Midge doll
I haven’t watched you before but your skin is fine! You have beautiful, smooth, glowing skin and you look fantastic without foundation. ❤
This video is also really fun!
Appreciate you omg ♥️
Ok, I was just noticing something different about your look...and I think you look FABULOUS! Love the minimalist look on you!
Thank you ♥️♥️
I had the sparks rollerblades and they were so fun lol I don’t kno if I had the doll bc they were from my older sisters but my Barbie’s proudly road those in style 😄
I definitely don't see that with birthday Barbie tbh. I think when her gimmick is to blow up balloons, it makes sense
That balloon barbie is sending me 🤣
As a child i actually wanted to have that pooping dog toy. Now im just wondering why i liked that so much. Also i did own a pregnant barbie doll. Unfortunately she lost her head
I think the roller blade Barbie could be redone with today's technology. Like use low power LED lights that charge with motion. Like shake the doll or something.
Watch channel really help to get what doll and what not to get keep up with your good work❤❤❤❤❤❤
My friend got the video Barbie doll for an early Christmas present. We used it to try and record Santa clause 😅 sadly it didn’t work
25:09 omg I have the spectra and she glows
The color reveal Barbie dolls are the absolute worst. I wish Mattel would eliminate the color reveal and other cheap gimmicky dolls focus on making better quality play line dolls.
I really like the new mermaid series from the reveal line, so I decided to get 6 but all ended up being tow of the same dolls, so angry
Worst part about blind packaging 🥲 idk much about them but there might be codes or something you could look up to find the right ones? I know some brands have that just not sure about Barbie
It was implied that Midge was a pregnant teenager. That was a part of the controversy
I agree with you, the Kissing Barbie was pretty strange to release and a bit creepy
my ex aunt in law got me the shitting dog barbie as a gag gift because she hated me 😭
I feel bad for laughing I’m so sorry
@ no it’s so funny i still have the little dog food box too
Rainbow High wasting there money for gimmicks for children. Instead of articulated for the dolls. Ridiculous!
Kissing barbie looks like she inspired the alternates in the mandela catalouge
About faundation, I couldn't tell before you mentioned, you're so pretty either way ❤❤❤❤
Stop omg thank you ♥️
Poor Midge, having to be sold separately from.her husband and eldest child
Tbh, video camera Barbie wasn't even that bad. They just needed to make the video recording "not online" but only in the owner own computer
off topic but is your outfit like a set? bc it slays and if those pants match that top it would slay even harder 🤌 ps: love u & ur vids 💖
