I just got the blind Barbie and as a blind collector, I absolutely love her. I like that she’s allowed to be a little bit more glamorous and she even is wearing heels. I’m gonna get another one so I can make her into a princess.
Your knowledge of head sculpts is impressive. Keeps me hooked on this channel. I am very excited to get Totally hair Ken and it looks like he has a slim body! Waiting a long time for Mattel to make an articulated version of this body. Hopefully during my lifetime. I have several slim kens to rebody.
I love your channel and your honest takes on these dolls! The totally hair inspired Ken is definitely at the top of my list…I do however, wish that his hair was rooted. I know rooted hair on Kens can be a mess but I just prefer rooted hair on my dolls. He is Totally Hair Ken after all. Nevertheless, his facial sculpt and hair is awesome!
that's actually funny because i thought the same as what you thought for the golden dream barbie lol, when i saw the images i was like "finally they are using the Raquelle face sculpt again! only to find out its a pixelated version of the summer sculpt" 😂
You always make such good points. I like that you called these "bounding", because all I've heard previously is "tribute" and "inspired by", and IMO these are so far from the reference, it's an insult - like putting out a an off white tshirt and claiming it has anything to do with the Marilyn Monroe dress that Kardashian wore. Calling them "bounding" makes it more relaxed and lowers expectations for the callback. I won a bunch of 80s/90s dolls at auction, and the number of accessories is amazing. Combs/brushes, bags, jewelry, hats, bonus pieces, etc. I wish they'd come out with a hat fashion pack, or at least cowboy hats. One of the Ken dolls I got (Great Date I think) has rooted hair, so he came with a comb, a bouquet of flowers, and real socks. I live in west TN, and Walmart starts Fashionistas at $10.97 - they do go on sale for $8.97 and eventually clearance at around $5, but if you want the newest ones now, it's over 10. The Anna May Wong doll is gorgeous.
I am also most excited for the Totally Hair Ken in this wave. He is so handsome and sort of reminds me of Mena Messoud who played live-action Aladdin. I'm actually not mad that he has molded hair and I prefer my Ken dolls with short hairstyles to have molded hair. As for Lara being Latina, in the Generation Girl line they had two characters using the Lara head sculpt. The Lara character was French and the Ana character was indeed Latina. Both had brown hair and both used the Lara head sculpt. Ana was tan with a sporty style and Lara had a paler complexion with an artsy/Boho style. I absolutely loved Ana.
Thanks for the review. They are definitely an improvement and I am more inclined towards purchasing some of these, especially the one tributed to Black Barbie and Quick Curl. Totally Hair Ken is a must even if only for the head.
As an Anna May Wong fan though, she was pretty fashion forward by wearing menswear and contemporary 1920s - 1930s fashions. If she wore clothes similar in style to the Jazz Baby Barbie line, the Frank Sinatra Barbie style mens suit or leaned more in American 1920s fashions much like the Harlem theater dolls I wouldn't find it so distasteful since Anna May Wong was a fashion forward woman who tried to be seen as an American first. It's just super disappointing that Anna May Wong tends to only be seen in "Oriental" fashion throughout her career when she was typecast for her race and playing stereotypical roles, and this doll only further reinforces this idea of her being an exotic being rather than someone who was born and raised in America who happened to be Asian. It's just funny how this video demonstrates how the Inspiring Women dolls fail in actually educating people or honoring the women they're meant to because it flattens out all the nuance to a quirky blurb and a subpar doll, and if anything just reinforces the ideas the women themselves challenged
Hello Fellow Anna May Wong Fan. I think Anna May as an actress and someone who knew how to market herself would have understood Mattel marketing although I agree with you that a nice 1920's or 1930's evening gown would have been great and more in line with who she wanted to be perceived as. Instead of the costume the doll wore which looks like something Ms. Wong would have worn in one of her bad girl dragon lady roles. The dress the doll wore actually is very 1930's evening gown in how it was put together. They should have done it in black or white sans the golden dragon, now that is vintage Anna May Wong, as she did do a lot of Fashion modeling work for Cecil Beaton while in the UK. I put my Anna May Wong in a vintage Barbie dress.
The Lunar New Year Barbie reminds me of Angelica Huston in The Addams Family. Not quite evil and not necessarily friendly either, but certainly beautiful, dark and glamorous. i think a tall body type would do her justice. i would love to see her in a long and form-fitting black dress.
Hi always enjoy your content and commentary! Your always spot on,the Totally Hair Ken in my opinion is Middle Easten/Indian as he looks almost exact to the Arabian Nights set back in the day. just like you i get creative with my collection and make what Mattel wont give me myself.
I honestly think that this wave is WAY better than last wave. I’m getting my hands on: Golden Dream Barbie Dream Date Barbie Totally Hair Barbie (If her hair’s poly, I’ll scream) I’m just so happy Mattel uses more sparkle and shine in the fashionistas, I can’t wait for the next wave.
13:12 I have that Western Ken with the old style bendy legs and I love it, its one of my collection jewels, I dont like this new cowboy Ken, is the same as the beach one with a cowboy shirt. 15:24 Love this Ken with facial hair, I need him in my collection.
I hope they use a mold for the Afro Barbie that I don’t have. The Afro is a hair style in itself. It’s not easy to get a perfect TCB Afro. I collect male dolls and mostly black 11” female dolls. I almost have all the black history month dolls. But only 1 was left in her original outfit. Two I kept there unique tops and changed the bottom (including Madam CJ Walker) Anna Mae Wong was beautiful. The mold they chose did not do her justice. If they were going to do an Asian dress they should’ve just used Asian fabric instead of that foil appliqué. The face screening made her look ugly, so she was returned.
Mattel 😂😂 ya no quieren que le compren ,,, porque cada día le pone menos a las barbie dolls ,me suena la frase: [ entre más dinero 💰 tienen más tacaños🤦♀️
This wave you can really see the influence of their predecessors in their clothing. It was harder to see the clothing design influence of the last round of Fashionistas.
i just want to correct one thing: an afro IS a style that requires a cut for shape and the hair needs to be styled into that shape. it isn't just natural hair. this hair is not unstyled.
Just got the movie pack for free. I left the executive and movie star as is. I gave the other two a makeover their outfits are kind of ugly. The director got it the worst with her fake looking denim jumpsuit. I put her hair down, and she has some nice curls. She looks so much like a fashionista I have, though.
WOW! I have to say, you are the most handsome man i have seen in a while on the Barbie world. Definitely easy on the eyes. I am married but just had to give you the facts. I have no intentions are cheating on my husband.
Oops! Sorry, minor correction. Bill Greening actually was the one to design the tribute doll 40th anniversary first black Barbie in 2020, not Carlyle.
I’ll definitely be getting a few of these upcoming dolls.

Fashionista 225 looks like an open mouth version of the Lyla doll from the It Takes Two series 😊
That's what I was wondering, too!
I'm just waiting on the looks line to drop to buy em 😊
Love your reviews. ❤
Oh! I am so looking forward to the new Totally Hair Ken! Hope there's a made-to-move body that matches him!

Excited for 227 Ken. ❤

Late to the party but I just realized that the Dream Date Fashionista could be using the Robyn face sculpt from Barbie: Life in the City!

I love the Ken doll, and will definitely get him if I can find him.
Your review was spot on. I truly enjoyed it!

anna may wong is giving me eartha kit vibes,i want quick curl and totally hair ken
These are so much better than the first wave.
I hope they make a reinterpretation of Sunset Malibu Barbie soon 😭
"It has the mbili head" but then the leaked image has the 2014 Kim or Crystal head sculpt lmao
Does she look like she has an open mouth? I thought it looked closed. It would be cool if she used one of those.
@@BarbiesGBF it looks like the teeth area is unpainted or it's a new sculpt entirely. All I know is it's not mbili lmao

I thought it might be crystal but idk the image is so blurry

Toys R us is still in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, but, they do NOT have a section for collector dolls
Love your video always ❤❤❤
Bill Greening designed 40th Anniversary of Black Barbie.
Cyan Blue? It is English :D a basic shade of green-y blue ;) The doll is so pretty! Yes she will be great on tall body!
I honestly think that this wave is WAY better than last wave.
I’m getting my hands on:
Golden Dream Barbie
Dream Date Barbie
Totally Hair Barbie (If her hair’s poly, I’ll scream)
I’m just so happy Mattel uses more sparkle and shine in the fashionistas, I can’t wait for the next wave.
Golden Dream is not Summer 2003, she is Summer 2011 sculpt.
You may have found your mini me in #227! 😉 I looking forward to knowing with MTM body you think is the best match for him! 😃

Barbie Loves Benetton Paris and Anna Sui Barbie are also Asian Laras.
The Anna May Wong doll was cleverly made, but Mattel could have gone with one of her actual red carpet looks.

THEYRE EIGHT BUCKS IN TENNESSEE? They're ten in north carolina, catch me taking a lil road trip cuz that shit adds up quick.

Agree on the handsomeness. Also not thinking of cheating on spouse.
You very cute
Wee all need better from mattel. Kids and collectors. Those sheep fashionistas with no fashion. Omg mo please.
They haven't
