6T40 Solenoid - What they don't want you to know! Plus trying out our new service pit!

  • If you build it they will come! Lol Days after completing our service pit we got a transmission failure on our GMC Terrain. See how our pit worked. We found out why all the reviews for the 6t40 6t45 solenoids are terrible. Should you just replace your tcm or tecm? Should you just take it to a transmission shop?

I rebuilt my 6T45 in my Diesel Terrain. Was pretty easy. The solenoids aren't your problem it's most likely your pistons. Also adding in the Sonnax shift kit and drum saver does wonders for this transmission. I highly recommend getting the "Hyper Blue" brand pistons which are a little more expensive but much tougher than the OEM ones. 15k miles later I had to pull the trans again because the torque converter went (Should have done it while apart....) but I cracked open the trans just to see how it was doing and everything was perfect AND! My trans fluid was not burnt and black like this trans is famous for. P.S To anyone attempting to rebuild this trans, DO NOT try and replace the rectangular seal on the transmission TCU. You WILL break it. It's not possible to change and I don't know why they include it in the seal kit. Soon as you pop it off you destroy these hair like wires that are connected to the PCB board. It will be a $400 dollar mistake....

You probably have a broke 3-5-R wavy plate... which ate up the aluminum drum. Mines severely worn but hasn't broke yet. Also, anyone with HP Tuners MPVI adapter can program (marry realy) a different TCM to the ECM.

On the solenoid on mine i removed them and saw that there was like a sludge on the top part where there is a cavity.I put it under a high power microscope i have for smd repair and found that there are steel particles in solenoid where shaft is.I suspect its binding the solenoid from smooth operation.I placed a high power magnet near the top and the oil would move like filings definitely the permanent magnet in solenoid is attracting steel filings and there's a buildup.i used high pressure to clean them out but not sure if thats a fix.Funny thing is magnetic plug in transmission has no filings.

Also sounds like a solenoid but maybe the symptom of too much metal shavings causing failure. That age of a vehicle probably has 200+ thousand miles. Everything wears out. Cheap fixes are probably temporary fixes. I don't know this model personally but that is a fare assessment of any 22 year old vehicle. I am going to keep investing in my old vehicle so a transmission rebuild for 3000 was worth it. I will rebuild the engine when it needs it because the interior is still really nice. If I had a ton of issues I would have sold it for parts.

I may have only got 5k miles and had to rebuild the transmission anyways that would have been a waste.
