- Kyiv struggles to boost troop numbers after Russia launched a new offensive that some fear could close in on Ukraine’s second-largest city. Russian President said on Friday (May 19) that the Russian push aims to create “a buffer zone” rather than capturing Kharkiv for now. For more, FRANCE 24's William Hilderbrandt is joined by Alexandra Filippenko, a political analyst. "Ukraine needs the help of Western allies in order to stop Russian offensive", she said.

I fully support as an American sending aid to Ukraine, but why does it always have to be the US saving the day with tax payer money, the EU GDP is not drastically different that the US, why won't Europe take care of a war in its own continent ever. In the US we have close to a million homeless, no guaranteed vacation days for workers, no guaranteed paternal or maternal leave, a minimum wage no one can live on, yet in Europe you guys get all those things. But we pay for your defense when we could be guaranteeing universal health care, and social programs so kids can get free lunch at school for impoverished families. But both DW and this news network have been starting to blame the US for not doing enough for a war on their territory despite the EU not doing enough with a similar GDP, the US has spent over 100 billion on this war and the EU as a whole is at 60, what gives? We have enough issues in the US, like we can't even take vacations. Spend 2k a month on daycare like why do we have to save the world as opposed to saving ourself and allow for 5 weeks of vacation and free Healthcare for Europeans. I'm a Democrat and voting for Biden but everyone is quickly realizing this is untenable.
