I'd rather get myself a hotel room in paradise for 2 weeks and sleep with luxury prostitutes and drink a glass of champagne on the beach in the evening than spending so much to climb a mountain, sleep in tents, put my body through exhaustion and cold and low oxygen. Not a mountain climber myself but I like watching videos on high attitude climbing and I just love your videos. This is by far best Lhotse video I have found on TH-cam. I like the Everest videos as well. Never seen anybody document the expiration as good as you. Hope more people will start watching your video. They deserve better.

I think this is as stunning a video on mountaineering as I have ever seen - especially given the context of the Everest summit the day before. Mindblowing visuals..........that final couloir.........just WOW!!
Wonderful channel. I am fascinated by these high peaks. I don't have the money or the stamina to climb them but thank you for sharing your experience and letting us armchair travellers go to the summit of these magnificent peaks!! and you make it look so easy!!
That was pretty incredible Jon. Those of us that watch your climbing abilities arent really surprised that you could handle Everest one day and Lohtse summit the next.
Who sets up the ropes? Who pays them since every climber uses these ropes? Is it done every year? How are people able to climb without the ropes to set up the ropes?
I remember reading Bear Grylls biopic which covered his summit of Mt. Everest in 1998. It seemed like such a massive ordeal and he made a big deal of the biological effects of entering the "death zone" and so it seemed it must surely take people a long time to recover from a summit. Is it just that you are such a better high altitude athlete than rank and file climbers, or have equipment climbing techniques improved so much since then--I guess what I am asking is, I was rather under the impression it takes people weeks to recover from a summit. How where you able to do two so quicky?
Hi Steve & Sarah, Thanks for your comment and question, its a good one. I guess in short a lot has changed since 1998. Kit is better, but not drastically. Weather forecasting is better for sure. Logistics are always improving and there is more and more experienced guides and Sherpa on the mountain. The main problem with anyone in the media or creating public content is it needs to sell, so they use buzz words like Death Zone etc. I understand the idea but it's a bit hyped. Being at 8000m is a big deal, but it doesn't have to be death defying and dramatic. I always say to my clients - we're here to enjoy climbing the mountain not just endure it. As for me, I guess I must have a natural disposition to high altitude as i've always found I fared well. I have been climbing extensively at high altitude for 16 years and have guided on 12 x 8000m expeditions as well as over a 100+ other high altitude expeditions. If I make it look smooth and controlled thats a good thing as this is my job :) Nower days many people do two or sometimes three summits back to back. Its not that uncommon for those that are very fit and acclimatise very well. You'll certainly be tired once you get down but if you keen the ball rolling, and the adrenaline going your body can achieve impressive things. Last few seconds of the video clearly shows why so many climbers have disappeared on 8000 ers due to poor visibility which can result in fall or get disoriented even when attached to fixed lines.
It’s the Sherpas. They are true mountaineers who climb without ropes. Western climbers just use the fixed ropes to get to the top! That’s why he could climb it so fast. Try climbing it without fixed ropes on a new route.
Thanks for your comment, not quite accurate but not far off - the Sherpa/Nepali do climb with ropes. For your info, I did actually climb a new route on Lhotse this year! From 7700m (high camp) to 8250m) I climbed and fixed most of it myself with support/assistance from my lead Sherpa Siddhi and Pemba.

Good video and it's nice to see someone who isn't just fixated with Everest which is why it looks like a fairground attraction with so many people just waiting which is the reason for the latest fatalities on the Hilary step. I've seen your Makalu and K2 videos too, good stuff well done on your adventure and successful summits.
All I saw was a guy who forgot the milk on the way home from Everest. His wife called: Hey honey… can you get milk on the way home? Not to mention… that climbing Lhotse after Everest is a very exclusive club. Not many have done that. Wow…. 💪❤️
Usually the seasons fixed lines are left on the mountain so the last people can get down safely. It also often helps the sherpa/teams fix the following year.
Must be a strange feeling having summitted everest the previous day, then just having a 'relatively' easy day almost alone climbing the mountain next to it, looking over to everest in all its glory and thinking about how packed it must be up there
My old Casio Protrek watch doesn't have to connect to gps to tell you the altitude. It gives accurate results based on atmospheric pressure almost instantly. Throw away that rubbish Garmin watch 😂
This might be a silly question, but i want to know the answer. When you summit these mountains and all the traffic on Everest, do you come down the same line as the people climbing up ? 😮
@@JonGupta Well I respect it. I’ve only ever climbed some of the 14ers here in the US and they were tough. Your fitness level is insane to do these 2 mountains and make it look casual.

Lhotse 5, but goodness knows how many on Everest the day before, did you feel the situation around the Hilary step was a bit Sketchy?
Amazing video. Some of the most impressive views of Everest anywhere. So Lucky this guys with the weather, they had two ace days in a row yo there. Of course It has to close down on the summit... The summit of Lhotse is notoriously delicate to stand in too... Big ice cornice and a 4000m fall on the other side.And as much as the fixed rope and oxígen takes a bit of the adventure sense, to climb the Everest and Lhotse on consecutivo days would be damn near imposible without these two things. I am sure It has been done by some freak but two days climbing on the death zone to the highest mountains there are, is no joke.
To me Jon produces the best climbing videos period. Always a positive attitude, perfect description of areas using proper terminology, updates of altitude. A true joy to watch.
Love your summit videos, Jon. Heading out to Nepal for the first time in a few weeks. Wont go above 6500 but watching a lot of videos in the evenings. Yours are really well put together. Cheers.

The weather conditions can change quickly in the mountains, and this is where lots of prior experience can be very important.

Which climb was tougher in your opinion? I've heard some say Lhotse is harder.
Lhotse is quicker and easier I would say. Everest it longer and more involved and more technical too. Both are superb!

Very surprised on these commercial trips that no one carries an ice axe, what if something happened to a fixed rope?
Perhaps it wasn’t obvious but I always carry one everyday just incase. So far it’s only ever been used to digging snow into a bag to melt for water!
