One important factor not mentioned in the video review is that the LG QNED85 Mini-LED TV set uses the IPS type of panel, which has a very good viewing angle. In comparison, the Sony TV uses a VA panel that has a viewing angle that is not nearly as good. Even when you slightly move off to the side, the Sony TV sets start to see a difference in color accuracy.

After seeing the TERRIBLE Viewing Angles of all the VA Panels with Mini-LEDs in 2022, I realized the IPS panels for TV sets were far superior to the VA panels, just as they are with computer monitors. With these Mini-LED lights, the IPS panels have very deep "Black" colors. So that excuse of "Not having deep Blacks" is no longer valid for IPS panels now that Mini-LED lighting is used.

I had the same issue with "hot" spots along the edges with my 65QNED85 also. Just a characteristic with IPS panels. I think the cure is additional zones like you get with the 2021 90QNED and QN85B. So the 2022 QNED90 should effectively mask these hot spots.

I have viewed several your reviews and found them most helpful - except they do not appear to specifically address the quality of subtitles or sub text. We watch a lot of subtitled movies ( in a low light room) and - like us - I suspect the quality of the text displayed will be a key factor for many others. In particular those with limited hearing, that need audio described sub text, would also benefit from a specific test on the subtext/subtitles. I do note that your visual test includes some sub text but you do not seem to comment on it, and its very hard to ascertain the quality oneself while viewing your TH-cam video from a small PC screen, smart phone or tablet.

But it seems that I’m sensitive to PWM on this screen in all modes except Movie. Movie flickers with 960Hz while other modes flicker with 120Hz. And it got some barely visible DSE and blooming. But the flickering was the worst for me. Sadly almost no reviewer except Rtings are talking about the screen dimming methods. Low frequency PWM can cause headaches and eyes strain for some people.

I bought the very first mini led set, the TCL 65 825 in Feb 2020 and I love it. It does get some minor blooming that the TCL never shows but it looks so you are there I love it better than the TCL.
Get a properly designed mini led set with good light control your going to be happy. I wouldn't recommend the Z9K for any user unless they can really afford it and my TCL can hang with it really well, it just doesn't have the 3d super bright picture, but I only paid 1400 for it. Sony still gets the Sony tax till you go down to the more consumer grade sets.

Do you watch a lot of sports or TV with the lights on? I'm guessing SONY z9k upscaling of low bit rate content is quite phenomenal. I think the Z9K however, would shine most using an apple TV or Nvidia Sheild as broadcast cable is low quality. I'm still unsure between an 80 plus inch OLED or go mini LED but, I stuck with Sony because I want the HT-A9. I need a versatile TV for both light and dark room viewing and the highest quality 4K HDR and SDR. Don't trust Samsung and Sony is a little pricy if I don't get the effect I want

@@bravedave90 I watch a lot of cable and OTA broadcasts and TH-cam streaming etc.
The signal through the Comcast box is horrible quality, very low bitrate 1080p that mostly looks soft with some artifacts on the Z9K.
I have a Sheild and a Roku Ultra 4k and they both look excellent on it with the higher bitrate or 4khdr they show.
I also have the HD HomeRun Prime and the 4k flex OTA boxes and they have much better quality signal than the cable box as well so the 1080p max video they provide looks excellent upscaled to 8k on it. If all I had seen was the typical cable quality picture on it I would not be super impressed with it.
When I'm watching good HDR movies and demos it goes into beast mode and is just the best looking picture I have ever seen in 4k HDR.
It does get some minor blooming depending on what it is showing but I don't really notice it once good HDR is being played.
It really looks 3d and you are there in person when it gets good quality video to play with.
I've never had a oled or a plasma but I've had plenty of excellent quality old school crt sets including a Toshiba 34hfx84 that was HD and could play anything up to 1080i video very well with excellent black levels and color.
I upgraded because I figured Sony would have a even better picture than my excellent TCL mini led set does. The TCL has better blooming control but crushes blacks to do it but still looks great.
The Sony just does everything else so much better, way brighter and HDR is on a whole other level.
I have been watching all my favorite 4k demos and movies and just being blown away how much better they look now.
Don't be afraid to play with all the picture settings if you get it. Out of the box it's merely good, crank some of the brightness and color tweaks up and it just keeps looking better. Set color temp to neutral as well and b/w will look perfect.

@@bravedave90 Well, there's so many options coming up soon that who knows who else will release a set that can do everything the Z9K does and do it just as well or better. Besides that even if nobody tops it for a while the price on it and the X95 series sets should come down a bit after a while. Even if somebody builds a set that looks just as good if it's way cheaper that's a win right there anyway.
I'd still be perfectly happy with my old TCL and it still looks great in my bedroom and is a nice reference set when I'm seeing something look weird on the Sony. If I hadn't been able to actually buy the Sony I'd probably run the TCL till it dies and hope to find a decent deal on something as good or better by then.

Keep this mind however, the 65" QNED may be the better choice as long as (1) no corner light bleed when watching black bar content and (2) you're in a brighter room. In a darker room the C2 really pops and the perfect black bars are 3 dimensional almost. If youre coming from an older TV, try the 65" QNED first and then upgrade to OLED at a later date, but keep those caveats in mind

I would like to see an evaluation where it becomes visible how the number of zones affects the image quality. Where is the reasonable limit in the number of zones, where the halo effect hardly occurs, but its control is not a problem either.
