My dad raised me on Neil Young. We always discussed the meaning of lyrics even when I was a little kid. When I was 10, 1989, he played this song for me and told me that he did one thing right in his life. Instead of having to search for someone with a heart of gold, he was lucky enough to be raising one. This was always our song.
Today, we had to make the very hard decision to remove my dad from the ventilator that has been keeping him alive. I did not get a chance to say goodbye. I couldn’t make the trip across the country to be there so I asked that this song be played for him while he was passing.
I love you dad.. I’m happy to know that you didn’t have to leave this earth without having found your heart of gold. 💛 🕊️ 💔
this is beautiful man. i'm sorry for your loss
Your story resonates with me as a parent. Thank you and I hope you’re doing ok. Certainly brought a few tears to my eyes
😢💔💛❤🩹
Condolences and blessings from Ireland.. I feel your pain I've been through it myself my dad in 2010 and mom in 2020.. Keep strong 💪 always and soldier on like they done for us 🙏
Couldn't make a 6 hour flight. This is your generation
I lost my best mate 40yrs ago in a car accident. This was one of his favourite songs.❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m 41 years old born 1983 and I love the old school music from the 50’s 60’s 70’s and 80’s todays music it’s ok
Funny how a song can transport a person back to a particular time in their life in a split second. This song takes back to when I was a 23 years old man just starting a new life in Australia. In the blink of an eye I am now a 75 year old man and looking back over 50 years of life with very few regrets and feeling very fortunate to be still listening to and appreciating the magic of Neil Young's music. "Long May You Run"
You're fortunate you never turned left into South Africa!
C'est fait pour ça les mémoires
Continuer à produire un autre bonheur malgré les absents
If this doesn't play at my funeral then damit im not going.
Cheers mate.
Nah. U need to stop living in the past & realize that those old dinosaur hippies u look up to are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites!
If youre reading this to this day
You my friend have amazing taste in music!
God Bless you both 🙏
So do you my friend...☮️💖🎤🎸🎶🎶
cheers brother
You too..... all love from the UK....
Thanks Brotha…😊
Just an acoustic guitar and a microphone.... And you almost want to weep.... That's music... 😎🤟
bro forgot about the harmonica💀
@@frommarstosiriusNeil Young sings better than Justin Bieber.
@@AJVillanueva2030 what? Where did you get that from?
@@frommarstosirius That’s my opinion.
@@AJVillanueva2030 No I’m not disagreeing with you I just don’t understand where Justin Bieber came from
My heart won't stop searching no matter what I say, do, or don't do.
This was the 1st album I ever bought with my own money. I was 13 years old, saved my hard-earned babysitting money. Listened to this whole album constantly, I still do. I had a rough childhood, this song made me smile, cry and helped me through so much. This song will always hold a special place in my heart.
His generation were storytellers. They are a dying breed and there’s no other folk musicians like him to carry the torch. 70s music will never be replicated ever again.
Look up iron and wine. He's pretty good too.
Ray Lamontagne and Jason Isbell
I'm only 39 and love Neil I grew up on him so glad my dad raised me with great music!
@Chris Arledge Jason Isbell is a wonderful songwriter

Listening to Neil Young makes me 17 again. Now I’m 66. The 70s was an awesome time to be a teenager. I had way to much fun.
Thank you for a little comment
Absolutely! I too was lucky enough to be a teenager in the 70's! The best music and where I lived it was the perfect blend of country and city. We had some great times with the very best tunes as a backdrop to our lives! 👍💯✌🇨🇦♥️♥️♥️
I'm 66 years old and when I listen especially to Neil Youngs music it not only transports me back to the 70s which I too had the best time but it serves as a testimony that those years were and will never be replaced as the best music ever written besides the time when Cole Porter wrote music!! I'm glad I had the opportunity to live my life during the 70s !! Music will never be the same!! Sorry to say but the music today and the singers and song writers don't even come close!! Thank you Neil Young Fleetwood Mac Carole King Carly Simon SimonGarfunkel and so many more!! Your all greatly appreciated to have produced outstanding music that will live on forever!!
Lol love your comment! God bless your heart
kids in nam didnt.
Pure, unbridled talent.
Man I miss the old days big time! What a great time to have experienced! We were so blessed and didn't realize how much until years later.
This song reminds me of our son, Brian, who was in a fatal car accident at the age of 26 on his way home from work. A farm kid just trying to make his way in this world. I didn’t have to search for a heart of gold…. He had one!! Brian’s mom, he’s forever 26, forever loved…. See you on the other side my son 💜
Edit - Brian knew Jesus, he knew the truth and the way. We are thankful for being his parents for 26 years, 11 months and 25 days + (9 months)

Well said
Tash Sultana is pretty awesome richtig now. Good artist from Australia.
True, I thought someone else was playing a 12 stringer in the background! Great sound and a wonderful alto tenor voice.
The best version of the song. Just perfect.
Yes, 2024
Me, 33 years old, thinking, what happened to music today?
As a tear rolls down my cheek.... BEAUTIFUL ❤️
This song reminds me to Michael Märk, he died at the age of 20 years in 1982! He is always on my mind and never forgotten! ❤
Never gets old, this “Heart of Gold.” Totally timeless.

What a legend. I love his music, therapeutic.
My favorite artist. ❤
WAUW! i had no idea young Neil young could play and sing like this. This is actually out of this world
Old man live is amazing too
Einer der Besten und Poetischen Folksongs vom Unvergleichlichen Meister👍👍
Not a computer in sight no synths no drum machines no over dubs no endless takes no bs just one man and his guitar pure gold
Thats it ❤
And he can sing! Not as Most of other „musicians“
yeah,, human.
An his harp
That's an extremely simplistic and inaccurate view of Neil Young, He loves synths, Trans obviously springs to minds, but they feature on many of his classic albums. The most consistent thing about him is his musical versatility
Can’t believe it, this music is art and makes me cry. No more music today just garbage.
Neil Young is way better than Justin Bieber.
Of course nothing will beat this era of music, however there is still plenty of brilliant music being released these days you just have to go and really dig for it yourself 😅
Probably because can't be bothered to even look in the general direction of what music was made after this one song highlighted by the first reply in the comment chain acting like biber is relevant
Yess empty garbage today
Anyone else listening this masterpiece in 2023?

The start of that harmonica gives me chills every time

What type of harmonica is that? Any idea, please help 😊? 😊

Will never forget that a gorgeous girl right next to my room in the dorm would play this song over & over again every night! I looked forward to her playing it on her record player I don’t know how many times! It didn’t get old then & it hasn’t gotten old now! My favorite song of his
that's beautiful
Sounds like the beginning of a great live story. Wondering what ever became of that gorgeous girl...
My theme song....
It should be everybody's.

today is august 18,2023 and still watching neil young one of my favourite singer, composer of country music during the 70's..much ❤ from the PHILIPPINES🇵🇭🇵🇭👋👍🙋👏
There is an honest, passionate, thoughtful quality to this. Lyrics and instrumentals are well articulated and expressed. I find myself returning to watch this performance.
❤❤❤Heart and soul and compassion - let's go on keep searching for a heart of gold. 🎉🙏🙌
Me and my son aren't talking family issues hard feelings, I'm 59 years old 4 strokes and i can't get my 31year son to understand i might not be here tomorrow and we are wasting precious time nothing is forever.
Everyday without my son is harder everyday ,my point don't waste time on things that don't really matter in the end when you're love one is gone.
I'm just 30 years old now and listening to this song.Makes me realize to leave life to the fullest.Just a kid from the Philippines 🤘🤘🤘
I have missionary friends all over the Phillipines ❤❤
Good choice!
What do you mean "Just a kid from the Philippines" ? That is one of the largest countries in the world, you are hardly living on the outer.

Hard to believe it's been 50 years since this song came out by this amazing writer, singer . Nexer disappoints! Love you Neil!
Hi dear,how are you doing?
Neil Young is one of those eccentric type of geniuses. He has a son who's autistic and loves trains. So, Neil has a whole basement full of trainsets. Sweet father.
holy crap, 50 yrs ? time flies when ur having not fun
Good music just lives on and on 😊
i know huh 🤔
That's the Neil Young I remember.
We will never see a man like this ! !!!!! Me
Makes me love a time that I never knew.
Thanks Sir.
That heart of gold you can find in yourself.
I don't think Neil ever found it. So sad.
This music will never come this way again! I cry for the future!
..and *weep* too. 😊 😥
Check out Charles Bradly (featuring Menahan Street Band) and his version. I think the future's bright.
Last year I drove through the Northeast in search of a new home listening to the Archives box sets. Neil is some of the best road trip music and when I finally found a 150+ year old farm in Western NY, I knew it was meant to be. Harvest was the first record I played in the new place. Thanks for all the great music Neil!
What a story :D
amen from taiwan!
awh... beautiful. God bless u and ur stonehouse/old timber farm... love it
Western NY is where it’s at man I’m from there myself
I lost my heart of gold 2 weeks ago after 42 years. Can't even explain the hurt
His voice makes me ache for a home I no longer have. Sigh.
I remember my dad telling me about Neil Young every time we heard Heart Of Gold on the radio. Some time in the very early 90s, I must have been like 6 years old, he asked me what my favorite song was. I said "Heart Of Gold" and he laughed out loud and said "that's not a good favorite song for a six year old! I bet the other kids your age have very different favorite songs!"
I nodded and kept it as a favorite until this day.
😍😍🤩🤩👏👏👍🏻👍🏻👌👌❤❤🇧🇪
That makes two of us Mr. Young. I'm 68 (still looks like a teenager with no car insurance😎). I'm not getting old. I am old but Neil Young's songs makes me 18 again and keeps me searching for a Heart of Gold. Thank you sir😇
so young and so pretious . . . !
I love all his music 🎶🎶 he's awesome 😎👍
This is Neil Young live in concert for the BBC. 50 years on and I still love this song. Thank you Neil for years of wonderful music.
Back in the late 70s this came on tv. And I recorded it on vcr still have it.

Merry Christmas 🎅
Pure gold, no tricks, the real deal.
Me, too! I don’t know how many times I have heard this song? 1000 times? 10000 times? Doesn‘t matter, I will love it forever!🤗❤️🔥
I'm 18 years old, and I don't know why I like these songs...
It’s called “good taste”😊
because you have good taste in music ❤
He 100% is saying his very relatable experience with connecting to love and in there somewhere is loving yourself, I could hear it wrong but I think the heart of gold he looks for is his own
no one does.... it just gets in u.... I'm not his Generation either.
He was less than 10 years older when that song released. It’s ok to like old music that relates son. We all go thru a lot of same shit.
Love this song!!!!
Makes me cry the lyrics classic

I played this song wen i was 15 years on my guitar. Now i am 68 years old still play this classic❤
✌️🙏💜
I was 11 when Neil wrote this song, I'm 63 and listen to his music everyday.
Pure genius. Absolutely brilliant. So many decades later and Young's music is still so very good. And this version is still the very best version I have heard. Neil, a Martin Guitar, a harmonica and his voice.
Very correct Sir. I thought about writting comment like yours many times.
Tom, as a 28 year old I listen to Neil young to this day, absolutely pure
Canada's gift to the world...and still sounds great 50+ years later...
My dad and mom had this beautiful song at their wedding back when my dad died on Friday I miss my dad
This brings back both happy and sad memories
Heard this song for the first time almost 50 years ago. Believe me, it seems like yesterday. So many things happened in my life but Neil is still in my mind and in my heart
"And I'm getting old". Heard this song for the first time when I was 13 or 14. Learned it on the guitar, bought an harmonica (in G), and sang this song at school in recess. Now it's been over ten years since then, more than that, and when I heard this song again those lyrics hit deeper than they ever did. Back then I didn't know what I was singing, I knew there was poetry in it, but some of it just went over my head. Crazy to think soon I'll be the same age Neil was when he performed this song. I wonder what else he knew.
Just realized... ..I will always hear you Neil Young.....
Probably top ten of the coolest person in the world, at that particular time.
Lots of cool people then……
I lived in Toronto. I was 16 and about to change my life completely. I bought the album, put it on the stereo console, and took it in. P.S., I loved the insane 70's. The music, the vibe, the people, and the best deep movies ever.
Harvest is one of the greatest albums of all time. Heart of Gold is one of the best songs ever written in Popular music.
💛🖖👍
it was the album that kept me alive after my divorce
All the best music 70s early 80s!!
Neil Diamond was his best .. Crazy Horse.. your so great !
❤❤❤No more tears❤❤❤
I used this song in memory for my deceased coworker, personally speaking, because she did have a heart of gold and a real hello every day and was my supervisor starting out and she was a great person and it drives me to have a heart of gold😢❤
And now im crying I need to clean
Rare breed.
Great to find a HD version of the video thank you
These lyrics will always resonate within me, the harmonica too is just perfect and gets me every time!
By the way, do you remember the Jethro tul's flute ? Chills me too. Sorry for the spelling. 🎶

This is what I listened to when I was a kid in High School. Kids don’t have anything like this today. They have to listen to these classics if they want good music.
Story of my life chasing that heart of gold and I'm just getting old...😏
Wish I was around back then mostly because of this type of music. Music back in the 60-70s just seems to make me happy- good tunes and lyrics.
Just a guitar, harmonica and his voice man this one of my favorite Neil Young songs.
The smile🎼🎓Neil made at the beginning shows his heart of gold, he needs not look for it, it is him.
