My dad raised me on Neil Young. We always discussed the meaning of lyrics even when I was a little kid. When I was 10, 1989, he played this song for me and told me that he did one thing right in his life. Instead of having to search for someone with a heart of gold, he was lucky enough to be raising one. This was always our song. Today, we had to make the very hard decision to remove my dad from the ventilator that has been keeping him alive. I did not get a chance to say goodbye. I couldn’t make the trip across the country to be there so I asked that this song be played for him while he was passing. I love you dad.. I’m happy to know that you didn’t have to leave this earth without having found your heart of gold. 💛 🕊️ 💔

Funny how a song can transport a person back to a particular time in their life in a split second. This song takes back to when I was a 23 years old man just starting a new life in Australia. In the blink of an eye I am now a 75 year old man and looking back over 50 years of life with very few regrets and feeling very fortunate to be still listening to and appreciating the magic of Neil Young's music. "Long May You Run"

Pure genius. Absolutely brilliant. So many decades later and Young's music is still so very good. And this version is still the very best version I have heard. Neil, a Martin Guitar, a harmonica and his voice.

I listened yesterday for this song for the 1st time in my life while in my car. I loved it instantly, it's pure emotion. Also, I figure it must be incredibly hard to play guitar and harmonica (without using your hands) at the same time.
Heard this song for the first time almost 50 years ago. Believe me, it seems like yesterday. So many things happened in my life but Neil is still in my mind and in my heart
The 60's and 70's were great times and like many others in the 70's we played Neil Young's Heart of Gold, one of the most beautiful songs of all time. In 1975 we recorded the song “Heart of Gold” on a Sony Tapedeck and it sounded quite nice. Thanks to Neil Young we had a great time and a lot of fun!
Take me back to the '70's when I was a teenager still in highschool! When the drugs were good and real and real good! The music was great! Concerts were great! I show most all the great classic '70s rock bands in concert because of my Dad.Those were the best years of my life! Nothing will ever come close to those times in music, that era and the way things were in life back then.I am so greatful for those times in my life! The greatest memories ever!!!!! If this doesn't take you back you aren't old enough. I was a sophomore in high school and this song has been with me since the first itme I heard it. Incredible song.
In 1972 I was a sophomore in college. All my roommate would play was Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, especially Heart of Gold. I use to get sick and tired of hearing it. It took me this long, at age 72, to really appreciate these artists sharing their storytelling talent. Truly a sophomore.....
How is it possible all these years have passed? I feel this song is actually part of my heart. I was so young when I fell in love with it…now I’m gettin’ old & it’s been with me right along.
I used this song in memory for my deceased coworker, personally speaking, because she did have a heart of gold and a real hello every day and was my supervisor starting out and she was a great person and it drives me to have a heart of gold😢❤
Lyrics: I want to live I want to give I've been a miner For a heart of gold It's these expressions I never give That keep me searching For a heart of gold And I'm getting old Keep me searching For a heart of gold And I'm getting old I've been to Hollywood I've been to Redwood I crossed the ocean For a heart of gold I've been in my mind It's such a fine line That keeps me searching For a heart of gold And I'm getting old Keeps me searching For a heart of gold And I'm getting old Keep me searching For a heart of gold You keep me searching And I'm growing old Keep me searching For a heart of gold I've been a miner For a heart of gold

This song. The harmonica. The lyrics. The guitar. Everything . His voice. It will always hold a special place close to my heart. This song makes me feel things. Makes my imagination run wild. God bless music
Man, back in '72 this was my anthem. I was a 16 year old runaway. I was gone for more than as year. But Neil's Heart of Gold kept me moving forward. To this day, that beautiful song still brings back memories of those times. Thank you, Neil.
today is august 18,2023 and still watching neil young one of my favourite singer, composer of country music during the 70's..much ❤ from the PHILIPPINES🇵🇭🇵🇭👋👍🙋👏
This is what I listened to when I was a kid in High School. Kids don’t have anything like this today. They have to listen to these classics if they want good music.
Mingled in with a bunch of hippies,we played this song and neils others non stop, back in 83, never got Neil but Donovan signed my marine band harmonica ❤ 👌
My teenage years would have not been great without you. The music at that time was part of what the whole world was all about. Thank you Neil Young for giving.
I lived in Toronto. I was 16 and about to change my life completely. I bought the album, put it on the stereo console, and took it in. P.S., I loved the insane 70's. The music, the vibe, the people, and the best deep movies ever.
Sono stato fortunato. Avere avuto una adolescenza accompagnata da artisti meravigliosi come Young, Dilan, Baez, Genesis e tanto altro è qualcosa che chi non l'ha vissuta non può capire
This entire BBC concert is remarkable. It remains one of my favorite performances, by anybody, of all time. Seeing his one man show in Chicago in 2011 with good friends was one of the highlights of my life (outside of family) -a ‘bucket list type of event.
we didn't just listen to the music, we changed the country man. we told pres 'nixon'? 'HELL no; we WON'T go! You can stuff your war where the sun don't shine!
I was a kid in 1980, for the very first time hears Neil an his songs, and mi mind was a explotion, one year before discovered the music from eagles (but in 1977 had heard Hotel California), and some time before enjoy Kansas and Cat Stevens, but music like Neil's music, is diferent. Today still love those songs, december of 2024, im now 57 years old, take mi guitar, play and sing. What else can i have to be happy?
Just beautiful! It reminds me of when this song came out and I was riding my bicycle in the neighborhood singing at the top of my voice Heart of Gold in its entirety and remembering while listening to it now brought myself to tears. Thank you for sharing this timeless song , Neil Young 💕

"And I'm getting old". Heard this song for the first time when I was 13 or 14. Learned it on the guitar, bought an harmonica (in G), and sang this song at school in recess. Now it's been over ten years since then, more than that, and when I heard this song again those lyrics hit deeper than they ever did. Back then I didn't know what I was singing, I knew there was poetry in it, but some of it just went over my head. Crazy to think soon I'll be the same age Neil was when he performed this song. I wonder what else he knew.
I have my dad to thank for introducing me to the talent that is Neil young. I only hope my children and grandchildren will appreciate and enjoy his music as much as I do. ❤
This song inspired me as a single grandfather raising my granddaughter as a single parent. I would tell her stories I made up about searching for a heart of gold. This song would be perfect in a docu movie about just that. Thank You for sharing sharing your wonderful song.
There's something almost ethereal about all Neil's songs that seems to speak directly to the soul. I first heard 'After the Goldrush' 52 years ago, at a moment when I was in despair. Somehow it pulled me through. Deep, deep spirituality here.....
Fantastic performance and incredible video quality from over 50 years ago. You can tell how new the song was; the future #1 hit song was not even recognized by the audience yet.

Me too. It never gets old.😊

I’m right there with you. I bought this song as a 45 in the early 70s. Neil is far and away my favorite artist. So raw and genuine.
I listened yesterday for this song for the 1st time in my life while in my car. I loved it instantly, it's pure emotion. Also, I figure it must be incredibly hard to play guitar and harmonica (without using your hands) at the same time.
One of the best songs of all time and one of the best album ever made. A masterpiece.
That heart of gold you can find in yourself.
I don't think Neil ever found it. So sad.
Infatti lui cerca anche nella sua "mente". Il viaggio è lungo. Forse più di una sola vita. Canzone meravigliosa. Grande Neil.
That smile at the beginning...one of the sweetest most beautiful things I've ever seen. oh my heart, this song.
Einer der Besten und Poetischen Folksongs vom Unvergleichlichen Meister👍👍
Cheryl Way from Greensboro,N.C.
Canada's gift to the world...and still sounds great 50+ years later...
A song that gives you chills no matter how many times you hear it
How is it possible all these years have passed? I feel this song is actually part of my heart. I was so young when I fell in love with it…now I’m gettin’ old & it’s been with me right along.
Thank you for this masterpiece, Neil!
Neil. The heart of gold is your own. How we crave the familiar, what feels like home. Oh to rest our heart in the comfort of our own 🩷🙏🏻🩷
There has been such criticism of Neil's voice for decades. He sounds absolutely amazing to me.
Masterpiece, a gift for my childhood. Thanks Crosby,Stills& Nash. And thanks to my parents for listening to this.
I used this song in memory for my deceased coworker, personally speaking, because she did have a heart of gold and a real hello every day and was my supervisor starting out and she was a great person and it drives me to have a heart of gold😢❤
And now im crying I need to clean
Lyrics:
I want to live
I want to give
I've been a miner
For a heart of gold
It's these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keep me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean
For a heart of gold
I've been in my mind
It's such a fine line
That keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I'm getting old
Keep me searching
For a heart of gold
You keep me searching
And I'm growing old
Keep me searching
For a heart of gold
I've been a miner
For a heart of gold
And I still wait for mine…… a heart of gold.

Thanks❤
I'm in tears thinking about all of the genuine connections I have with my people.
Beautiful performance. Love how young and fresh Neil is! Such simple guitar but yet, a rich and not so simple song!
Hello, Germany. Yes, this is a great song, written by a Canuck, ayuh. I happen to be from Maine, next door. Keep on rockin' in the free world.
I have seen Neil in concert four times and he always gave an excellent performance, he is my favorite
Thank you, Neil.
what's your thoughts on when you were 43 I'm feeling stuck
i lost my mom a year ago. nothing reminds me more of her than this song. I really really miss you dancing in the living room.
today is august 18,2023 and still watching neil young one of my favourite singer, composer of country music during the 70's..much ❤ from the PHILIPPINES🇵🇭🇵🇭👋👍🙋👏
Harvest is one of the greatest albums of all time. Heart of Gold is one of the best songs ever written in Popular music.
💛🖖👍
it was the album that kept me alive after my divorce

I lost my best mate 40yrs ago in a car accident. This was one of his favourite songs.❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤
I'm an old man still searching 😊
May you smile always and remember them when you hear it always! 🌹
🙏🙏🙏❤️💞💛🎵🎸✨️🎆
This is what I listened to when I was a kid in High School. Kids don’t have anything like this today. They have to listen to these classics if they want good music.
The Godfather of grunge! I love Neil Young!
yep lol and as Neil said one time 'I prefer Don Grungio' lol
Glad someone else knows that too 😉🇦🇺
Godfather of songwriting
@@joedecker3900 Actually he's known as the Godfather of grunge 😉
@@suemontague3151 Yes, I knew this already. Just tired of the whole grunge thing, he’s a iconic singer songwriter to me.
Mingled in with a bunch of hippies,we played this song and neils others non stop, back in 83, never got Neil but Donovan signed my marine band harmonica ❤ 👌
Wow. Right on. 👍
My teenage years would have not been great without you. The music at that time
was part of what the whole world was all about.
😂 ALASBUENAS Otia Guapo conjunto de Voz Guitarra Armónica y APASALOBIEN TÔS
These lyrics will always resonate within me, the harmonica too is just perfect and gets me every time!
By the way, do you remember the Jethro tul's flute ? Chills me too. Sorry for the spelling. 🎶
This music will never come this way again! I cry for the future!
..and *weep* too. 😊 😥
Check out Charles Bradly (featuring Menahan Street Band) and his version. I think the future's bright.
My dad and mom had this beautiful song at their wedding back when my dad died on Friday I miss my dad
❤
How good was this live the first time? Undeniable performance. Glad I lived in this time to hear great artist move the masses.
Lucky you
A master singer, writer and player. Thank you Neil for sharing your huge talent for all these years. In my book you are the greatest
we didn't just listen to the music, we changed the country man. we told
pres 'nixon'? 'HELL no; we WON'T go! You can stuff your war where the sun don't shine!
Love him. A favorite
Hello Stephanie White

BLACKBERRY smoke is very good .Chevel Sheperd would be very good at this has imense talent .
Sit back in a small environment and relax and enjoy. Don’t get any better than this . Those days are gone.
I have my dad to thank for introducing me to the talent that is Neil young. I only hope my children and grandchildren will appreciate and enjoy his music as much as I do. ❤
Music from this generation was by far the best! Brought up with it,so many memories. Sad to know so many missed out
This song inspired me as a single grandfather raising my granddaughter as a single parent. I would tell her stories I made up about searching for a heart of gold. This song would be perfect in a docu movie about just that. Thank You for sharing sharing your wonderful song.
Peace for you
There's something almost ethereal about all Neil's songs that seems to speak directly to the soul. I first heard 'After the Goldrush' 52 years ago, at a moment when I was in despair. Somehow it pulled me through. Deep, deep spirituality here.....
Love everything about this song, Neil's playing/voice/energy 🧡
Love and light, Victoria
Hi
when i was a kid, i hate old songs. now im old, its completely different. im loving
Fantastic performance and incredible video quality from over 50 years ago.
You can tell how new the song was; the future #1 hit song was not even recognized by the audience yet.
exactly and as you probably know it was at BBC in London, accounting for the high quality
That’s the truth Mark😍 I like you a lot and I wish you’re real and responsible for real but I don’t even know you for real yet…got an idea…how are you doing ?
That's how I want to remember Neil Young.. The way he strumms his guitar is unique!!!!!
Strums and picks, if you watch you can’t see him pick on the strum
I've been a Nei Y. fan for 40 years. He played exclusively for himself and his listeners. If you have an ear for brilliant music beyond Main Street, you can't miss him. There is hardly any more honest music than what he did. Sorry for my English, I'm a stupid German and I used a translator...
I hear you loud and clear :) much ✌️🙏💜 from me in Australia ✨
You are not stupid. The world is at times . And some translators ! 🙏✌️👍
Thank you. Greattings to you... to Australia. I heard that is one of the Country´s where the People are realy happy and friendly.
