The WCS suspension kit is an absolute must, on these saws. They are the flimsiest saw I've ever ran, before I put the kit in. It's pretty crazy how much it stiffens things up. I also didn't know that CNC porting was a thing. That's kinda crazy. Anyway, glad they're working out for you and helping you "upgrade" your business and production! Take care, Feller!
The old timers told me fines cut the life of a saw in half. They get into the bears and polish the piston and cylinder. Once the cross hatching is gone the saw fails to lubricant properly. I very much appreciated how you don't upload a video every day. Keeps the content as it should be, full of information and kick ass awesome!
Great content! 309 makes a great saw and the customer service really puts them on top. I also plan to order another once funds allow. Really like that black color.
Back in the 90s we bought 2 ...076 supers... stihl chainsaws 30inch bars...had a big job in brown county indiana.. i think they where $900. Each.. it seemed like a small fortune.. lol.. thats a nice looking saw.. i still have one of the 076. Stihls
Awsome saws,Christmas came early, love those 500i's one of the best saws I've ever used, ive always had to go to the woods with a new saw too like a kid at Christmas,I couldn't wait
Now that is an Awesome Saw for your Collection. That 500i is a Beast with the 28inch Bar. I am all Set tomorrow to cut up some Logs myself for about 2hrs. I have been a looking at the 500i, and the Husky 592xp. My feelings are with the Stihl. Whether it's Hard Maple, Red or White Oak, or Walnut (Black) that Saw is Excellent. I am Cutting a Piece of Locust Tomorrow that is about 28inches with my Farm Boss MS-271, 20inch Bar. Let you know how it goes. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
Selection of tool I feel has a large amount to do with which part of a chainsaw bar that an individual felling person feels most comfortable using. And as many tree fellers as I continue to watch at work, the one thing that stands out to me, is that all felling tree workers are individual in how they approach this task of getting 'a tree' from a position at which it is standing vertical, to one where the tree is lying flat on the ground. What I mean is, some tree care professionals might do emergency response, may give zero you kniw what's as to the value of the log (in fact, from a tree care guy's point of view they often see the lumber and it's disposal as a cost to them, not at income stream). The polar opposite to guys I know who fell timber and stage the lumber for auction buyers to come bid on that lumber. I grew up in a culture where no one dealt with a tree until it was deemed to have become a health and safety risk. We never viewed standing timber in any sense as being a resource. So for beginner tree folk or power saw tool users, it must be confusing to watch one guy who fells timber with a purpose of removing 'a thing' which has become a problem (sort of like a rodent removal service, except for trees). And another guy who fells timber and views the tree as having a positive, not a negative economic value. A chap like a 'Good Feller' uses that Stihl 28 inch bar in a way that is totally individual to that person, and that person's mission. And it seems the 500i is just particularly suited to a chainsaw being used for this job. What's fascinating is another equally busy tree feller may see it totally different, may not take as kindly to this saw at all. I think, within reason, it's nice to have a selection of tools to choose from.
The one thing I will comment on, from the Good Feller application of this tool, the 500i. It made me realize something about the tool I hadn't thought of. The 500i might be one of these tools that seems good at two things at once. Felling cuts, and bucking horizontal timber on the ground. For the latter, you want something that is not as heavy, and maybe not as powerful either. For felling cuts, I don't mind a heavy saw as much. I like the power of the heavier tools for felling (that is, the power isthere and you kniw it is there, is it has to be summoned). This 'pick up' or responsiveness is a quality the some tree folk are fanatical about (and it might be more justification for doing port modification, than just in the search for more raw power). What I want with a limbing and bucking saw though is something that's light and it goes far on a tank of fuel. And maybe that's a bias that has crept into my game of late, having been introduced to Elm trees. Looking at these oaks and the 500i, I am struck by that, how well the 500i could be re-purposed over as a limbing tool, after being used as a felling one. For my part, I just like to have two different tools for each task. The idea of one saw which does both this well, has me thinking. Those 592 saws are way too cumbersome, too heavy to carry to ever be good limbing saws. And I think the 592 is an essential tool nonetheless. Just look elsewhere for limbing.
Now I understand the 500i is a star that burns brightly, and maybe does not burn as long (in forest use, the 500i might not have an exceptionally long lifespan). And that's where I'd point back to the emergency responder, tree care guy. Who pulls out thebig 500i once in a blue moon. And runs 50cc saws most other times. That guy needs his 500i for exceptional circumstances, but not everyday. The 500i to him could really make sense, it's like two saws in one. A 90cc and a 70cc tool in one. For the logger individual, well even if the 500i can't go the distance, as it's supercharged just too much for that application. What the 500i gives a logger is a break now and again, from having to carry a 592. And that's not nothing. Especially for a Good Feller guy, because his days are not short. I'll use a 592 for a couple of hours, but a day, not so much (that's why I use the 70cc alongside the larger tools, so I don't run short on endurance). And I've seen guys run ported, screaming 70cc saws for felling, paired to 60cc saws like the 562 for limbing. Even better. That 562 isn't go to last a lifetime 'in the bush' either, but it'll definitely make life easier.
Now that I think of it, heavy 90cc felling saws make sense to me, for that purpose. Why? If one can fell a tree in two minutes instead of five or six, that's a lot if endurance spared in that task right there. Under powered saws take longer in felling parts of the task, which translates into more operator stamina used up. So while a felling saw tends to be heavier, net, net one carries that weight around for a third of the time, of a less powerful saw.
How you liking the light weight bar so far? I noticed the chin was loose after the first tree. New chain, I assume, so stretching is normal, but have you had it throw the chain yet when bore cutting? I know you don’t like the light weight Tsumara bars.
That saw looks like an absolute work-horse! Can anyone advise on warming saws up, please? New to chainsaws.. got a MS 261 recently, should I warm it up? Also, do any of you let it idle before turning it off? Been running it on, MotoMix.
Thank you 👍. Love that cutting technique you're doing at 10.15 to stop the bar getting pinched. I'll put a little bit of extra oil in the Stihl 50:1 5Lt MotoMix can I've been buying. I only run the saw on that as it's not used that much (it has no Ethanol in it). Man, I've cut some big Willows down recently... They're complete "dicks" to fell! They're all leaning and they just crack and split so easy. Don't know how you do all that work with trees/videos and still find the time to reply... Thanks dude 👍
Damn looking good man, even though personally I’m not a fan of west coast saws or stihl 500is I have to admit they make a killer product. I’m glad you’re liking them man. So I’ve got a question, since your running those 500s you looking to sell any of your other saws? I’d definitely be interested in possibly purchasing one or most of those other saws
@mattlynch2823 I’ve got 4 running 395s that may need minor repairs and 3 long blocks I also have a huge box of parts I’m looking to get 3 grand out of all of it It would make sense to sell everything at once but I’m open to offers

Should you be using a shorter bar? Say 25" or even 20"? If your walking around the tree then you really only need a bar length of max length of he radius of avg timber you cut. 20" should work then for anything under 3ft diameter, plus even lower weight!
The WCS suspension kit is an absolute must, on these saws. They are the flimsiest saw I've ever ran, before I put the kit in. It's pretty crazy how much it stiffens things up. Thanks Bud, I reckon everything is going modern. Wcs suspension is sweet. I like a stiff saw.

Nice
I must have missed the magical part of not pinching the blade. Nice drop!
Thank you
That second saw looks like a beautiful beast!
Yes sir, they eat the wood!
You should make a video or part of a video talking about the Fuel you run in the saws and what saw mix you use and ratios etc.
I will
Nice!! Never gets old. Stay safe out there.
Thank you!
Awesome saw and enjoyed watching your technique on cutting that bad leaning tree.
Glad you liked it
Cool! Excited for you!!!
Thanks Bud

Wicked saw and you got it set-up sweet. Yes, Sir $60 well spent to upgrade the air filter system 👍👍
Yeah, I reckon it was worth it.
I need to see that saw box again. I hadn't noticed it before. Looks like a slick layout.
Yeah it’s decent
I enjoy learning from you man. I really hope WCS comes out with a spring kit for the 592 also. Love that saw.
Yeah, I like the 592s as well
Someone said husky sells a stiff spring kit but I haven’t looked yet
You know the old saying, Beauty don’t pull the plow! Well in this case that Beautiful saw is a pulling SOB 👍
Yeah, that saw will pull the plow or I wouldn’t have it. I don’t waste money

Thanx for sharing Bud !
Cool, I’m glad you enjoy the music. I’m going to be upping my sound quality over the coming months. To much echo when I’m in the shop.
Mods are point less look good 👍, you want a lose spring for bigger saws , anti vibration...... longer use time bigger wood

Power to weight ratio best saw is 500i nothing two words❤
I’ve not run a saw saw that actually competes with my 500s. The weight savings is huge.
Awesome saw bud... How much did you end up spending with the upgrades? I'm thinking about getting the same saw
$2600
