Ive been a Stihl guy my entire life, love em! My next saw i buy will be the 572. Never ran a husky, and after watching buckin, i do believe its time to try one out! :)
I have also been a Stihl guy for 30 years. My pro saws have been good to me. Not that it changes the saws, but something I can stand behind is that Last week Husqvarna donated an entire semi trailer load of saws, gas cans, oil, and safety gear to the hurricane disaster relief in Asheville NC. Any company willing to do that deserves recognition!
I bought the 592xp the 90 ish cc saw. Auto tuned, every stihl logger who had used my saw now use huskys. I still have stihl saws. I just use whatever I sharpened. Usually use one till need a sharpen use the other then sharpen both.
Thank you Buckin! I know I appreciate your demonstrations of the relationship between the raker, the tooth, the power of the saw and the length of the bar. I love my Still 461 with a 32 inch bar. But being 6ft 4in tall, I really like my 36inch bar for buckin firewood. Having the right tooth profile and raker height has allowed that to happen without loss of power. Just cant be to hungry!!!
Hey Buckin, you know what would be interesting.. put the 572 chain on the 500, get a time in that log, knock the rakers down to .025, then time it, .035, .045 so on and so on, and see where the rakers are maximized to that higher tq saw. Heck do the same with the 572 and show how different saws need different combinations. Excellent video my friend!
Both them saws tear it up! Holy cow. Absolutely loved the part where you set them side by side at a idle. What a sweet sound of music! Thank you Buckin for another great video!
They’re both great saws I’m sure. I’ve a ported 572, so I will be bias. But I just can’t help but think the Husky sounds sweeter, smoother, and responds to throttle beautifully, it’s crisp! I still think the 500i has a barp in the high rev range and appears to be less efficient in its combustion just looking at the amount of the exhaust smoke. But hats off to the 572, that thing gives nothing up to the 80cc EFI saw in that wood. Great vid, Buckin’, thanks again!
@@MJF40 Yep, 500i is rev limited by cutting spark. Pretty healthy way to do it for the engine, I'm surprised it passed emission tests by going this way, and no strato too.
Nah the huskies don’t have good reaction time when pulling the throttle. Maybe the newer ones now do but my uncle has got some older ones and they’re slow to throttle up when pulling the trigger. Our stihls have a much better reaction, almost instantaneous. Easier to take apart and put together too.
@@rogerpowers3891old saws are simple to pull apart, and hanging and or lazy revs is generally a problem with a tune or the saw in my book. Feel free to like what you do but just be honest, you liked a newer saw than an older worn out one, no matter what brand that wouldn’t exactly be surprising. Try more things, you may happily surprise yourself.
Can't beat this channel. Just a good ol boy as honest as proof let's him be yet still doesn't seem to judge others. He might joke around about things but it's all in fun. Great video. Im a little amazed given the Stihl has more displacement. Husky is 70.6 см³ and Stihl is 79.2 см³. So its amazing that the Husky is basically tied with the Stihl. Both are super great saws and i would love anyone of them, but if possible i would rather take the Husky. Dealer is closer to my home and the Husky is about 330€ cheaper than Stihl. So its a no brainer for me.
I run both the Stihl 500i and Husqvarna 572 XPG. They’re both great saws. Being from Montana and working in the cold, I really like the heated handles on the Husqvarna 572, 562, and 550. What brand of chainsaw pants are you using?
After years of running husky 372s and 385s, I bought a Stihl 500 and love it. Mainly because I was tired of the kill switches constantly going bad and the pull rope system issues on the huskys. I'm liking the Stihl 500. Have cut around 35 loads of timber and over 40 cord of firewood with it so far with no issues.
Got a 572 last year at my local mom n pop hardware store. Never expected to see it on the shelf, but they have never failed to have exactly what I want. Now I run 2 saws only. My big boy 572, and my light agile echo 300 for the little stuff. It's a perfect combination, and it's like living a dream every day loading up the tractor and trailer with all the goods to head into the woods and clear all the standing dead oaks. I got at least 70 cords of standing 80ft dead, barkless Grey oaks that got hit with beetles a few years ago. Nothing like watching a 572 rip through a 28 inch tree like it's soft butter.
I really love the fact that in every video, though you could have cut off entirely the warmup procedure for obvious reasons, you choose to keep it, so ppl can finally understand the importance of it, with ALL engines!👍
Thank you very much Buckin! Excellent Video! Exactly what you said at the end. I love both saws. I have more Stihl for sure. But I absolutely love Husqvarna. It’s a different division but I’ve owned husqvarna dirt bikes and motorcycles. They are actually the oldest continuously running motorcycle in the world. In my experience with both saws. Like you said at the end. I like Husqvarna for higher rpm, but they usually feel like they have slightly less torque. Stihls have a lower rpm than Husqvarna but feel like they have slightly more torque. But the cutting speed is slightly slower from the obvious lower rpm. Many days running both. Thank you again Buckin!🤙
Husqvarna has more high end torque and Stihl has more low end torque. And considering both saw brands recommend you run them at full RPMs I would say that Husqvarna has the most torque.
It would be interesting if you just swapped the chains between the saws and tested again. I think you already know what would happen I just enjoy watching you run saws.
This was a good video. I remember that day you ran the barking 500I . I really thought you were going to throw it over the hill and leave it. Now fast forward to the future you are having fun with it. I love it. Liked the comparison today. I think you have the setup as close as you can get with your experience. I will be looking forward to the fur cuts. Then if I remember you say Arbutis (SP.) is harder yet. Thanks for the information. Thought and prayers going out to Lance.

Great video! I have a stock 500i and still getting use to a saw of that size. At what point would you send it off for tuning if you were in my situation?
No need to tune it! It’s fuel injected so it tunes itself. You could get it ported and it’ll pick up a lot of power. It’s a powerful saw anyway so you’re probably good for 15 years.
I have an 088 Sthil abkut the same But 572 better. I raced Motocross enduro Husqvarna bikes love that company. Husq Varna means "house by river " in Swede. Both make good Saws We are Using Echoe on clean up and trim really reliable always start easy .
Both saws seem to briefly quit running halfway through the cut. The dreamsicle is quieter but doesn't seem quite as strong? I've been running a triangular raker on a couple saws, they cut really well for me. Not sure, they may be Carlson.
It sure sounds to me like the XP can hold the rpm better under load. Could be the difference in chain but if the Stihl had better power with more aggressive rakers you would think it would have an advantage.
I was talking to the boys today at work and they was talking about filing their rakers very hungry and I've been running a 55cc husqvarna with a 28in bar so I had to tell them to try it in a hard wood tree that wants to sit down on you and see what they really think. I used to eye file my raker, and I've learned that my eyes said .050 but I've learned that a hardwood setting will cut faster than my old ways. Thanks Buckin because you've taught me a bunch about wood.
Idk if you have covered this before in another video but you said you don’t run a hungry raker in this video how or when do you decide you need to file the rakers what do you look or feel for when you say ok now I need to file my rakers down some and when you do file them do you file them all the way down on the hard setting in a gauge? I use Gordys gauges from west coast saws they seem to really make the chain grab do you recommend a different gauge that’s maybe better for hard woods I cut a lot of oak maple and locust here in Pa. Iv learned a lot from this channel and always looking for any tips or tricks I can get!!
I run a 2100 on my Alaskan mill with a 36 inch bar and I'm very happy with it. I tried my Walkerized 394 but it doesn't pump enough oil for that bar. I know some people that run the newer 3120 but I haven't tried it.Hope that helps.
@BuckinBillyRaySmith which stock Powersaw would be your recommendation , it's gonna be a permanent combination , so should I go with something like the Husqvarna 592 or Stihl 661 ?
The thing is, they both cut a consistent 11 seconds (fantastic sawmanship too) . Now Buckin, put it up against the 592 ... I think you've proven that Ripsaw is one of the best builders in the world though . :)
Shout out to Lance, hope you have better days ahead and the Buckin army loves Ya Buddy !!! Great video, both saws are awesome but I'll take the 572 all day long !!! Go husky !!! Buckin, excellent comparison and explanation on the 2 saws...
I have a question for the army. I can file a chain super sharp and my saw cuts amazing. I have never used one but I’ve been thinking about getting a machine for getting it sharp faster. How much faster is the machine and how does it compare with a really good hand filing? Thanks for everyone’s help.
I work for a small tree company and grind all of our chains personally. my boss bought a cheaper oregon model It's definitely faster, but if you buy a cheaper one, you will still have to be tedious while sharpening. The nicer more expensive models dont have any slop really so they are much more precise, and less tedious. The biggest thing with any of them is keeping heat out of the tooth so the tooth stays hard. either way, my hand sharpened chains still are much smoother and slightly faster. I try to keep out climbing saws really sharp because they are much faster to hand sharpen, and cut all of our ground saw/big saws with the sharpener.
Thanks for the info . I was thinking keeping the heat down would be important. I’m cutting a lot of firewood hardwood we do landscaping and some tree work but lately I’m cutting hardwood 8 hours a day sometimes and I touch up as I go but at the end of the day I really take time and get the chains right and by the time I’m done my back shoulders hands are really sore so yea I think I’m going to try the machine. Thanks again.
@Jamie-lb2qn yeah, I feel yeah. sharpening 36" plus chains can wear your fingers to the BONE! I set ours up on a rim with a pole welded in the center coming up, and then filled the rim with concrete, gets it up closer to your face so im not hunched over when I do have longer sharpening sessions. some prefer to sit with a bench set up, I always prefered standing. make it work for you brother, if you are doing alot of chains, especially 20"+ it will take a load off of you, and keep you cutting with fingers and a back/nexk that isnt so sore. 😂 cheers man, good luck!
I did not run either the 500i or the Husqvarna 592xp. How ever own stihl saws and recently bought a 3120xp. Do to watching buckin, I've contacted ripsaw about porting my other saws. So thank you for your incite billy ray.
Last night I ordered hoodies for my girls for Christmas, I think they will enjoy the new design, let you know what they think. There daddy's girls, so they wear what I wear.
Billy ray I was talking with a friend who owns a saw shop. The conversation was how long should I expect a saw to last. Instantly I said 20-25 years. I buy commercial quality products for the professional. He said stihl and Husqvarna surveyed their customers and the average result from them was an expected life of 5 years. I think that is just wrong, I want a saw to run and be able to buy parts if needed, for 20 years. The money there asking for most Saws is significant. What's your opinion on how long a saw should last. My old stihl saws still working are 20 to 40 years old. Granted, with the old saws, I can't get parts for them if they break. The saws become wall art. I don't want this newer plastic junk.
Both are perfect.... sharp chains are key to not straining a saw. You see TH-camrs with saws bouncing dull or uneven chains. You teach so much and truly inspire. On a side note how is young Ewan doing. I may have spelled his name wrong if so sorry young man.
Thanks Buckin, I've been trying to figure out which saw is best for me (70 acre woodlot owner doing mostly firewood and the odd saw log). I have an old Stihl 361, but want a bit more power. Thinking I'll go with the 572xpg to save on $$$. Your channel has been a huge inspiration and an even bigger help for me in this new chapter of land ownership/woodlot management. Thank you sir!

@BuckinBillyRaySmith which stock Powersaw would be your recommendation , it's gonna be a permanent combination , so should I go with something like the Husqvarna 592 or Stihl 661 ?
Couldn't find the HiViz hoodies on your website.
The thing is, they both cut a consistent 11 seconds (fantastic sawmanship too) . Now Buckin, put it up against the 592 ... I think you've proven that Ripsaw is one of the best builders in the world though . :)
One of the best builders in the world? That’s laughable.
Why? Why does the 572 cut so well even though the rakers are untouched? Is square grind that potent?
Do you feel the weight difference!?
Both are perfect.... sharp chains are key to not straining a saw. You see TH-camrs with saws bouncing dull or uneven chains. You teach so much and truly inspire. On a side note how is young Ewan doing. I may have spelled his name wrong if so sorry young man.
Ole Billy Ray is one of the coolest dudes. I have learned so much from this guy it is insane. Thanks brother keep it up.
Are both running 7 tooth rim sprockets?
Thanks Buckin, I've been trying to figure out which saw is best for me (70 acre woodlot owner doing mostly firewood and the odd saw log). I have an old Stihl 361, but want a bit more power. Thinking I'll go with the 572xpg to save on $$$. Your channel has been a huge inspiration and an even bigger help for me in this new chapter of land ownership/woodlot management. Thank you sir!
You can get the 585xp and upgrade it to a 592xp cylinder kit.
I have 572 and I do like it but I think I'd be happier with a 585.
I love the sound of both saws sitting next to each other. It reminded me of being at the race track. Prayers to all watching. One love
Hey Buckin. We both know what would happen if You then Swap chains...Do You say that the 572 can pull that chain your running on the 500i???
572 for the win, particularly given the cc difference
It's a good comparison but remember cedar is like dropping a hot knife through butter for both of these saws.
Wait til tomorrow
I would like to see a harder wood comparison, I think the larger displacement would shine more.
@@truckguy6.7of course it will
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Cmon Buckin, Can you release 2 videos in one day? haha.
I'm cheering for the underdog. All the pros in the woods in northern B.C. all use Huskya. I guess there is a reason why😀
Ive used ported versions of all three of huskys newer big saws, and they absolutely rip. Aside from a carb recall issue on the 585, they have been good saws.
When it comes to chain saw videos it hard to beat buckin Billy , the best on you tube !
What type of fire wood do you think is better? I live in Kentucky and I’m just curious
I personally own a Sachs Dolmar 120 /47mm piston
What do you think of old Dolmar saws?
Hello sir . I have a question, wat wood I use to make a wood table with epoxy resin , plz let me know, if u can tks
Any species .
Anything with funky lines seems to come out nicely from what I've seen on ye ol yubetube
Those saws rip dude. I love the husky more because that's all we ran growing up but that 500i is no slouch.
Great editing around the 9 min mark for the sound signature. Phenomal work
GREAT COMPARISON AND EXPLAINATION BUCKIN ,,WHAT I LIKE IS THAT YOUVE SPENT LOTS OF TIME ON BOTH SAWS ,,SO THERES NO DISCREPANCIES ,,,BOTH EXCELLENT SAWS ,,RIPSAW ROCKS 😁😁👍👍
They are lovely
How do I purchase that pipe?
Both work the same...can't see the difference... How long is the chain on these saws?
what size sweatshirt you rock? i bought a xl, seams like a usa large. so was curious
So would the 572 eat faster if ya touched up the rakers?
What oil do you reccomended for gas/oil mixture?
Also, what did the RIP Saw do to your 500i?
The editing Buckin! Awesome!great vid! Sold me on a 572 that’s for sure
And where do we get the magic pipe?
That 572 a good stock saw. No need to spend money it runs good out the box
What about the Protos Helmet?
Do you tested one?
Hey Buckin! What raker guide is that? I need to pick one up I have no idea what I’m doing with my 251!
husky
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith gotcha thanks buckin!

Love ur content learning constant. I’m a mechanic not a fellar or tree pro but I’ve takin to saw building. Kinda a bug that I can’t shake. I really liked this pairing and how u broke it down to engine size vs set up for overall performance. Anyway watched a lot of ur stuff but figured I’d chime in thanx.
Hey buckin I have a ripsaw modified 572xp too How can I get a pipe for it? I’m assuming you have the pretzel pipe that mark trader at soupakool saw sells? I went to his website to order and unfortunately he doesn’t list a pipe available for a 572
Hey Buckin, I got an old 66 Husqvarna in great shape. I would like a bark box or something similar. Where can find one?
Thanks, keep up the great vids
I'm an East Coaster 🇨🇦
I have a stock 046 with a barkbox and I have a stock 500i , they run neck&neck , I put my stock 372xp in the mix too , it's right there as well
Both running the same chain or no?
Miss your splitting frenzies ... shoulder still not right?
Lance, I'm so sorry to hear that you're not feeling well 😔
Sending love and healing light to you right now! ❤️💛✨✨✨🙏🏼
We appreciate you and you are in our thoughts. Hang in there ✊🏻 We love you, friend ❤️
Thank you Helga
We're here for each other 😊
The husky doesn't throw the chips back at the operator.
Oh yes here we go!!! Im dying to do this with stock saws on my channel!!
Super video Buckin Billy!
My question to you buckin do you run 7 pin sprockets on both those or 8 or they the same?
My answer to you is 7
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith I have the 572xp I put a 8 pin on it and I run half skip chain I feel like it's faster that way than with 7 pin
Buckin do you ever run any 404 chain on your saws ?
Does rip saw sell those husky mufflers??
Very interesting. Like is say my favorite saw it the one that runs right full of fuel and has a sharp chain.
Hi, Lance! Praying for better days ahead. Great show as always, thanks.
Great video that… really does show how important the chain is on the saw…
Indeed
Where is that pipe on the 500 from ?!?!???
I think Billy sent that out to Ripsaw to give her more power. Check their website out
Buckin’ where can we buy ur 500i pipe?
I love watching and learning from you buckin 😂 Your videos are so inspiring God bless ya
Pro tip…the discontinued 576xp is even better…28” bar, performance pipe, west coast dogs and a full wrap…shes a screamer…
To be fair, i have the 500i as well…and i do like it…
Where ported 7900?
Man o man you are a blast to watch
Thank you for always putting me in a better mood
I used to want a 500i but I’ve been doing a bunch of research and have started leaning towards the 572 but putting a big bore on my 371 is the only thing possible money wise for now
Do that
I want to get a bigger saw too, the biggest I have is the cs590 I'm thinking about one of those holzforma 62cc saws to try being $ is tight nowadays, or maybe try to shoot for the bigger blue thunder to mess with, I just cut firewood mostly.
@@Dennisrader-ff9gvjump to the 70cc class. I have a 590 and it’s solid but doesn’t compete with the bigger “pro” saws
Okay boys and girls i have a 572 that i put a header pipe on...WOKE that saw up. I also have a 462...no header...yet buildin on this week. But ive seriously been thinking of getting a 500i. Is it a huge difference from 462? I know its a bigger saw, but in the wood is it exceptionally noticeable? Or do i just go with the husky 592? Feedback please
My ported 462 narrowly beats my ported 500i, and I have a foam filter kit on my 500 and running stock air filter on the 462
Ahhh, the sound of those two saws, music to my ears! With as many hours as you have on both saws, you would know better than anyone, and it sounds like you're calling it a draw. I'm a Stihl guy, but I'd take either saw after watching your vids.
I have a 372 that the saw shop said the guy didn’t want to put the money in to fix it. I bought it not running and fixed it up and modified the muffler but I a going to put a pipe on it. Glad to see my saw is better than the 500i.
Husky fam here but I don't hesitate to pick of either of these brands when I get a good 2nd hand deal!
