Depending on the situation, this can cause more harm than good. These jams filter sediment and create pools for aquatic stream life. It also slows the water causing a lot less bank erosion. Some streams that I have been a part of it's rejuvination have been intentionally slowed by adding natural debris and iron posts. The amount of aquatic life displaced from this one clearing is staggering.

Removing beaver dams I can understand somewhat and clearing culvert entrances as well. But trees in the middle of a forest falling is just nature doing what nature does. Changing the course of a stream. I do not understand what damage it would do there. Again nature just doing what it does.

I wonder if you realize how interactive your presentations can become? Every time you pushed or pulled on, first, the tree and then, the large limb,... my stomach musceles tightened in support! HA! Also, that moment when the magic spot of blockage is removed and the initial burst of water pushes through is very, very satisfying! Keep up the great job you are doing and stay safe. Cheers, Dick from Vancouver.

What kind of leech? I’ve got leeched plenty as a kid playing in my local creek waterfall, doesn’t look like what I’m familiar with, doesn’t look like any leech on google image search. Doesn’t move like a leech. Looks and moves identical to a few buddies I found under my lawn waste bags a few weeks ago after they got rained on, moved them and they crawled quickly looking to get back under the wet paper. I was hoping someone knew what they were. Saying leech without anything to back it up isn’t helpful, so if you are sure it’s leeches, can you point me to what kind?

I'm so glad you got those tall waders. I would have been tempted to take a pruning saw to that tree. Do you use any tools besides the trusty rake and your hands? I was just thinking a hand come-along might allow you to move some otherwise difficult pieces.
