When I was 4 years old I planted a willow tree in my back yard, it's now an 80' giant. A full grown willow tree consumes 80-100 gallons of water per hour!

The thing is, that's only a very temporary growth. There's a park near where I live where several of them have blown over a number of years. In all cases, the growth survived 2 or 3 years and then died out. There's enough strength in the roots to produce new growth, but there's not enough leafs to replenish the roots, so it's just a long drawn out death process.

At 1:05 of the video, Andrew is backing up with a grapple load. I said to myself that I wished he would use a hard hat more often as I really worry he's going to take one to the head. Then at 1:27 or so a partially broken limb hits a tree and the end whips towards Andrew and he notices. then at 1:30 he is seen wearing his hard hat. I really like these videos, and I hope they continue to be so well done.

when you take down or clean up a willow tree, you should think about taking all the thigs that hang down and plant them in pots. keep the watered and you could have thousands of willow trees. they are one of the easiest trees to get started. dont need any special treatment, just make sure they are watered. that could be a huge source of income for you ! I know like you need another job ! lol

Ohkay. Just an observation I see this done often which causes the plant to suffocate. The flare needs to be exposed. Many choose to mulch right on top which is pretty yet incorrect. If the maple fails within a year or is suffering this may be the reason. Like the ariel perspectives... quite unique. You got my attention via the cargo container castling. Ta.

The problem you will find with that willow is the regrowth is epicormic and does not form a correct bond to the trunk. As soon as its gets to heavy it will just snap again. not so bad in that spot as there seems to be nothing to damage, just a pain to have to clean it up again when the tree fails again. Great video mate!

I always found that willow stumps sprouts lots of shots and turn into a bush - and after some years - a very big bush :-)
If they are trimmed they have grown big again around here. But the old stump starts rotting and that is their weak point in a wind.
    Just my experience..

Funny but some serious thinking goes into the right place to put said maple where it will do its best, look nice when through and it won't fall on something when it gets real big and the wind or something knocks it down. I watched willow grow from trimmings that were dumped in that spot and that was just limbs.. it was a weeping willow so that may be different but to me it looks the same. I love watching Levi play whe you to are together. fun to watch
