MGS2 was my first MGS.
I pressed the Shoulderbutton like 20 times before I realized i had to hold them down.
I was like 10ish and I still had fun figuring out the controlls.
TL;DR: 10 year old me had more mature and strategic attitude in figuring out controls than DSP.
I NEVER EVER throught the combat controlls were awful.
I just saw an intentional challenge like in SMB1. Balancing your abiltiies vs the enemy's abiltiies.
Another story: I had no idea how to use DS3 spells (my first DS) until I chose another starting class and learned how to switch left hand equipment. I still had lots of fun though.
Figuring out controlls feels like puzzling. That's fun.
When I was a kid, I had a cat who used to "hide" behind the living room curtains. He'd stand perfectly still, unaware that his paws and tail were all clearly visible.
For some reason, I was just reminded of that.

I just don't understand why he feels the need to try to degrade and joke about everything. I've never seen another TH-camr or streamer that tries so hard at every moment to be funny. It makes it even worse that he is the only one laughing at his own stupid attempts at jokes. I've watched quite a few of these earlier TIHYDP videos and it's the same thing. He's getting drunk while laughing at his own jokes, and it gradually transitions to him getting really irritated at the game because he's an idiot, but he just insults the game and the developers because he is too stupid to understand anything.

Yeah most of the enemies in this game may be grunts, but they're still part of the military, so they won't be programmed to be total idiots, like in MGS3 how even though you're in a box, they'll still check it out (maybe leaving the four parts of the opening exposed wasn't such a good idea)

I remember I would watch these with my mate at my parent's house. We both grew up playing MGS2 and found it hilarious watching someone fail this poorly.
@nightw4tchman Yeah, man, that sounds awesome. I grew up playing MGS2 as well, and when I first saw this video, I was confused, but then laughed the entire time when I saw just how bad he was at the game. It's nice to know that others have these kinds of great memories with media I've come to love.
The DSP Metal Gear Solid FAQ:
'I'm prone in front of a table how can the enemy can see me!? It makes no sense' - Because he's standing up, five feet away, and you're lying down next to a table in plain sight.
'This is stupid, I threw a grenade and it bounced.' - A grenade adheres to the laws of motion and gravity and will therefore bounce when thrown at point blank range at another object.
'This is so stupid, I don't know what to do! They do this in all MGS games, they don't explain how to beat the bosses and you have to work it out!' - This game was created before modern games go to the effort of pinning an instruction book on how to beat the game to your forehead with a nail gun.
'I was running towards an enemy behind a chain link fence and he saw me, this is so stupid. Then I tried to crawl along under neath a hand railing with a gap in it and he saw me. This game is bugged.' - Good god man.

'There's no auto-lock on his head, this is ridiculous, it should auto-lock on his head. The First Person controls are so clunky'. - There's no auto-lock in real life either, deal with that. This is a stealth game not a FPS, done properly you'll only really use FP when already concealed, taking a target out at range, not sprinting around, doing cartwheels, trying to tear someone in half with gunfire.
'I didn't equip a chaff grenade and it was equipped. This game sucks.' - You did. You did equip a chaff grenade.
'I crawled into an open area, not using my first person view to scout ahead of me and ended up crawling into the feet of an enemy. There's nothing I could do, the game is fucking full of shit man, whatever.' - If this is what you'd do in real life in this situation, I pray you never procreate.
'I ran along a bridge, paying no attention to my surroundings and then got spotted and shot at. This is bullshit. Absolute nonsense.' - Have you forgotten you're infiltrating a heavily guarded area? Would you sprint into an army base swinging your dick around, doing cartwheels and expect not to get shot? Fuck me, there are single cell organisms with better problem solving skills.
'I forgot how to use the First Person Controls to shoot people and keep missing, this game sucks.' - No words.
'One of the main characters in the game literally stopped me playing the game to call me to tell me I couldn't wear an enemy uniform with an AK outside of an area I'm not in. I then wore it and it didn't work. Why?!' - So this character stopped you from being distracted by the game to tell you some important information, which you then ignored, immediately did what you were told not to do, and it didn't work? Must be a game bug.
'I died, and lost a rifle I had collected. I then spent longer trying to reload the game, complaining in the process, than I would have done retrieving the gun normally. This sucks.' - Oh that sucks, sorry to hear you're total dogshit at the game and your precious time was wasted.
'I killed and dragged an enemy into a room, left him sprawled out on the floor right opposite the doorway, then hid behind a box. I was spotted and killed. This is ridiculous and NOT my fault.' - You're lucky you made it this far. Pat yourself on the back and never play a video game again.

My thinking as someone who has never played any of the MGS games: Going prone is probably for moving in a less noisy way, to hide behind sufficiently tall objects, to fire more accurately with larger weapons and to get through tight spaces like vents.
DSP's thinking seems to be: Going prone is a stealth thing, so when I'm prone I should be invisible.
Going prone is a good idea for hiding in MGS 3,Peace Walker,MHS 4 and MGS 5. But only because those games have camos. In MGS 1,2 and others have no advantage in hiding when you prone.
Arthur Mota except for all of the areas in which there are tables, vents, desks, and other cover you can hide underneath while prone, all of which are extremely common throughout all games in the series. Going prone is just as much of a stealth tool as anything else in your arsenal, in all games, as long as you know how to use it properly, which DSP doesn’t.

The fun of MGS is that stealth is just as viable as action, but stealth will always be more satisfying not to mention being the safer and smarter approach.
@@woodmansteve6760 While it is perfectly feasible to play the game by systematically taking out your enemies using guerilla warfare, what Phil is doing is not so much "freedom of playstyle" as it is just being an idiot, complaining about how unrealistic it is for his enemies to take more than one shot to go down (when he shoots them in their limbs), when he would also complain (probably even more) if he and his enemies BOTH only took one or two well-placed shots to die (like in real life).

Actually, this phrase pretty much NEVER has any good use in gaming in particular. It's even a poor excuse for individual's bad behaviour in society, politics, economics.
HOWEVER, in this very case it's actually spot on. The "game" here is that this guy called DSP can post terrible demonstration of lack of common sense (not to mention skill and reflex) at playing games on his ad-supported channel, and he gets paid for it, because people watch, comment, subscribe, post on their social media, even donate to him directly. That is the real game. That the mindless consumer enables this guy's behaviour.

He does play on easy in some things, mostly he plays normal difficulty, NEVER plays hard. He still fails miserably on any difficulty setting though. However, modern games are so fucking easy nowadays that playing on anything less than hard is just pathetic.
His Witcher 3 playthrough was so bad. He made a masterpiece of a game look like trash. He played on normal difficulty, which in that game basically means you can just close your eyes and smash buttons, and you'll still win. Seriously the whole playthrough was him pressing square.
That game has 4 difficulty settings.
There are four levels of difficulty:
Just the Story! (Easy)
Story and Sword! (Normal)
Blood and Broken Bones! (Hard)
Death March! (Very Hard)
Playing on anything less than "Blood and Broken Bones" is just laughably easy, no need to make a proper build, no need to use oils, no need to strategize and prepare for combat, just smash square and circle and you win.
I played on hard first, and death march very hard on NG+, it was a blast and actually feels like accomplishing something.
Phil doesn't care about that, all he cares about is pumping out videos as fast as possible for views. He doesn't respect or care about the story, gameplay, or the artform as a whole.
You can tell by the way he talks, that video games are just an annoying obstacle he has to put up with to get views and money.

Long cutscenes are literally the first thing people associate with Kojima. If you don't have the patience to sit through them, then you shouldn't even be playing his games in the first place. That's like someone with a severe dairy allergy walking into an ice cream store.
He's intentionally not pressing the L2 just so he can keep blaming the game.

When we hear in the news about another famous seppuku in Japan, we will immediately know that Hideo Kojima has just watched this gameplay.
Urrgh.. so annoying.. of course Kojima gets credit. Credit where credit is due! I haven't even played those games because I know I stink mightily at stealth based games but I can still appreciate the writing and emotional moments and challenge the series seems to offer.

I wouldn't call this one of the best games of all time.
It is a good game, but not quite THAT good.
It's still painful to watch DSP struggle through this.

It had a great story, great characters, great writing, great gameplay, great music, superb voice acting and superb graphics for a game in 2001. The graphics of this game is better than the graphics of Grand Theft Auto 3, which came out in the same year. Sure the controls haven't aged well, but like i said, the game came out in 2001, what do you expect?

***** If in the event that something does get removed by either Phil and/or Machinima due to 'copyright', don't be afraid to counter-notify the strike. Phil's too pussy to take it to court. Loophole (made TIHYDP Minecraft) and SebastopolQueen (made TIHYDP Bloodborne) did the same exact thing for their strikes and they got their videos back no problem.

I remember playing MGS2 when I was 11, and despite dying a few times because of my tiny babby hands I managed to get pretty far in the game until my uncle found out i was playing one of the "forbidden games" (the other one was silent hill, which traumatized me so badly as a child that i chucked it out of the window - literally. I was grounded for that, rightfully so.)
Welp, i played mgs2 at 8-12 years old and i swear...i practically learned the movement patterns, item usage and controls meanwhile that dumbass gamer cant even do anything... silent hill i never tried it yet though but should i get the newer ones or the classics?

Repeated stupid mistakes by DSP include:
1) Forgetting the controller has left shoulder buttons.
2) Trying to punch the guards over and over again.
3) Hardly ever using First Person View.
4) Not running away from the guards and hiding in Alert phases
5) Moving around prone in plain sight 3 feet from guards
6) Not paying attention to the Soliton Radar.
7) Standing in the middle of rooms when the guards come for a Clearing. One of the rooms in Strut F he kept dying in over and over again to the Clearing had a vent to the right to hide in.
8) Pure Impatience
9) Running around like an idiot never planning his movements.
10) Doing the same thing over and over again
Things that he did better on:
1) On a few occasions he managed to discreetly snap some guards necks.
2) He seemed to figure out you could pick up the Claymores by crawling over them
3) And I can’t think of anything else lol
4) blaming the game whenever he died
DSP makes me cringe....."can I use the rations in codec mode??" Jesus...being a huge MGS fan and watching his playthroughs makes me facepalm so much.
As soon as Phil saw you could cartwheel, his eyes lit up, his mind adrift with all the first person shooters that allowed you to make ridiculous movements with ease, and assumed the game was a movement shooter.
Didn't know Metal Gear Solid was a beat-em up series.
I think there was a known issue in the HD remake as well where Snaked died a lot more than he was supposed to in the Arsenal Gear fight. I remember it practically never happening on PS2 but it happened multiple times to me on the PS3 version.
Really? Snake didn't die once for me on that part during my playthrough of HD.

I agree. The only game I've really enjoyed for XO/PS4 so far is Alien Isolation, because it's one of the few games for that console that doesn't hold your hand

I have been playing vidya since i was 7 years old and stealth is my favourite genre, I played almost everything that you could imagine. I beaten SplinterCell without getting spotted a single time on hard... but i gotta admit that MGS has the shittiest controls i have ever encountered in a video game. Its fucking horrible and is are the major reason i bounced off the MGS series, even thou i tried to like it with my whole heart.

Honestly I’ll admit the controls are pretty tricky in the older MGS games, but actually ABSORBING AND LEARNING THEM and getting good is the most satisfying part of the gameplay, and clearly he couldn’t do it LMAO
First Person Mode saves SO MUCH time and patience. If I ever got caught and they brought the shields in, I'd get the USP/Socom and just rapid fire to shatter their shields.
Then I'd switch to the M9 because I still didn't like to kill the guards. That, plus killing guards during alert just spawns more, but knocking them out or tranquilizing them does not.
Ten months later and I'm still coming back to this video when I need a laugh.
I keep replaying this and other TIHYDP videos so many times, especially when I go to bed. It just never gets old.
