      @@carlhammill5774 Yes. It's the only car I own. It doesn't get the EPA great gas mileage that it claims to get. I have yet to take the smog test and it's been seven years. I have had little problems but that's mostly due to wear and tear. I'm waiting for the next civic which will most likely come out next year. My one big complaint is the entertainment system. It uses a knob to change the tracks and folders. It's too darn slow! So I use my phone to play music and listen to podcast. It's great for a used car but don't expect to see great gas mileage like the EPA sticker says.

    I have driven both these cars on long highway drives so listen up if you plan to buy either: The Corolla has dramatically more rear legroom. The Civic has significantly better steering feel. The Civic is considerably quieter on the road and is more buttoned down - meaning that the interior panels are solid. The Corolla feels cheap inside and rattles going over bumps. The Corolla has slightly better gas mileage overall.
    I'd really suggest you look into the size of the back seat and that in itself could be a deal breaker for the Civic (or not). Determine the quality of the ride of the Civic being better as it's so much quieter and doesn't feel upset over bumps.

  • @LowWageTeacher

    Can't go wrong with both. Have a Corolla Le Eco for a month now. Been very impressed so far. Ride is very comfortable and smooth. I'm getting an average of 39 mpg in real world, which is even better than the advertized 34 mpg.

      Why?

    • @litasafeather
      @litasafeather 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      wnnarace because it uses REAL leather it has a better safety rating and you get more for your money such as a STANDARD backup camera and bluetooth. And it comes with more standard horsepower.

    • @wnnarace
      @wnnarace 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Samir Hammoud In my experience the softer fake leather in the Corolla is actually nicer to the touch than the Civic. The safety rating is barely better than the Corolla, they are still both 5 star. Ok the Civic gets that standard but it also starts a couple of thousand more than the Corolla. Once you option the Corolla to LE spec, its price is still cheaper and they have the same equipment. The horsepower different is negligible. The Civic will be quicker but both are still incredibly slow.

    • @wnnarace
      @wnnarace 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      TheK24Kyle I still disagree with the argument about the Civic having better tech in its base form. The Civics base form is not exactly cheap and once you option up its competition they have the same equipment while still mostly coming under the price of the Civic. The feature you are talking about in the Civic I believe is only available in the EX-L with navigation and that car is about 25k. When you look at the price of a loaded Corolla at 23.5k, you really are only missing that feature but still undercut the price by quite a large margin. You are giving too much credit for the Civic being a night and day difference in driving. The Civic has been near the bottom in the fun to drive category for a while. The Corolla, which I agree is worse than the Civic in the fun category, is not too far behind the Civic. The materials in the Civic I would not say are much better than the Corolla, I would call it a tie between the two. The SI is not even in the same class as a 1.8l Corolla. That runs with the big dogs like the WRX and Focus ST where it typically runs at the bottom of the pack. The Civic runs in the 9's plus I am betting it will be slower with the new CVT. The Corolla is in the 10's but neither of those times are something to write home about. The Civic in its recent generation is riding too much on its past. It really has become an expensive, slow, and boring car. Most of its competition undercut its price while still providing good features. The cars I recommend in this segment are the Mazda 3, Ford Focus, and Corolla in that order. The 3 would be my go to choice because it really is the best of everything with its only drawback being it is tight in the backseat. The Focus is just in general an all around good car and a strong alternative to the Mazda. I put the Corolla on the list because it does have a roomy rear passenger compartment while still providing some nice features. I would just recommend you look at the these three for your dad, Only choose the Corolla if you decide you really need the backseat room.

    • @wnnarace
      @wnnarace 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheK24Kyle Caranddriver and Motortrend still clocked the 2013 Civic doing 9.1 0-60. Get the idea that is almost as slow as a 2013 Prius. The Focus is barely heavier than the Civic. The Civic ranges from about 2811 for the LX to 2930 in its top trim, The Focus is about 2960. The Focus has the extra power to compensate for the weigh and that is a car you can find actually achieving a 0-60 time about 8 flat. The dual clutch used in the Focus I agree had some reliability issues earlier on its life but Ford has done a lot of work to remedy its problems.
      I think your idea of not saying the Si competes with cars such as the WRX, ST, GTI is preposterous. Saying it does not have a turbo does not mean it should not be compared to these cars. Its lack of power is its downfall. The only thing the Si has for it is its wonderful transmission and low price but in the category that is not enough. Don't compare apples and oranges here, the Si is never a direct competitor with the Corolla. Yes a base Si is about the same price as a loaded Corolla but you are not going to see anyone cross shopping them.
      Ok sure the previous Corolla's have not been up to par but that does not mean this new one is like its previous generations. This new Corolla after reading reviews and driving one is much better than you think.
      Lets take a look at the pricing of a Civic EX and a Mazda 3 Touring. They both have basically the same features. The Civic is 21,880 while the Mazda will run you 21,440. One is cheaper than the other. Plus with the Mazda you are able to option it with the technology package and the price will just touch 23k or about 500 less than a Civic EX-L. The only thing you are missing then is the leather in the Mazda but I feel the features you get with the after-mentioned package are enough to make you cut your losses. The Mazda under Caranddrivers hands received a mpg of 32 albeit that was with the manual. How about the 2013 Civic, that was 5 less at 27. Again comparing a near base Accord to loaded compacts is not a comparison you make.
      Instead of telling me to go read reviews and drive these cars, I think you should go spend the time doing that. You have made numerous mistakes in your claims. I am well researched and familiar with most cars, that is why I make these claims. Take the time and do this research and you too will come to a similar conclusion.

    Surprised the Corolla won, but Toyota really brought together a nice interior and NVH isolation for the price. The Civic's interior can't compete on looks (being more or less 2006 vintage, cheapened out for 2012, then un-cheapened for 2013) or quietness, but the driving feel is still miles better.

    I can only justify buying the Corolla if you ignore the driver convenience package (keyless entry, push button start, and various additional applications that I'll probably never use) and the moonroof (combined cost around $2500).. You can get a top trim Toyota Corolla S without those items, and you'll still get heated leather, navigation, bluetooth streaming for around $21,500 which is excellent value. This is what I intend to do. If you really want both of those, then the Mazda 3i Grand Touring is the better value.

    Just because corolla is newer doesnt mean it's better. I just traded my 2013 corolla for the 2014 civic lx. Didnt even bother test driving the corolla.

    What about the 2014 Civic? With the CVT and better infotainment system? And standard lane watch and smart entry with the EX and above?

    Even though I like the Civic more, I prefer the Sentra over both of these vehicles. It's a better looking car overall.

    all driving schools use only corolla for driver training, hands down, just go to your local DMV. there is a reason

    Just a comment, you guys need to work on your audio. Your voices were kind of low but the pre-recorded music and autoguide tag at the end were blaringly loud. Just even it out. Good video though.

    Corolla is newer, so it wins. No surprise. Motor Trend and Car and Driver put both of these cars at the butt-end of the segment in a test of over 6 cars.

    Love the difference between US and European reviews! The Corolla here has a cabin that's 'downright stylish!', where-as in Europe the cabin comes under criticism for being hard, cheap-looking and a bit ugly. Is our European cabin any different? Nope!

    There both great vehicles but the Civics Interior is just so much more well made, the Corollas interior always fells cheap and deteriorates after time quicker

    The 2014 Honda Civic has a new CVT, tech package, and gets better fuel economy (30 city & 39 highway). C'mon AutoGuide, you guys should've known this.

    The new Corolla has nicely improved; however, I would still go with the Civic. The Civic is more refined and reliable. Not to mention, Toyota has been having a lot of problems lately.

  • @arniejonassen

    Toyota was great in the 80's and 90's but not anymore. They have had so many issues with their vehicles over the past twelve years. From Rav 4's and Corolla's with the ECU's frying (2001-2008 Corolla and 2001-2004 RAV4) to mid to late 2000 Camry's burning way too much oil. Let's not forget about the acceleration problems on a lot of Toyota's a few years ago! I owned a 2006 Corolla and the ECU went bad. It was replaced under a TSB by the dealer. Seven months later the ECU went again, this time after the TSB bulletin of 80,000 miles. My mom owned a 2007 Camry which burned a CRAPLOAD of oil to the point where there was less than one quart of oil left at the next oil change. The dealer said it was normal. My buddy who worked in service at Honda for the past five years recently took a job at Toyota for a higher salary and a higher position. His first words to me when he had been there for least two weeks was ,"man, I'm always busy at Toyota because a lot more cars come in with problems than when I worked at Honda." I hate to disappoint all you Toyota loyalists but they aren't as reliable as you think they are.

    • @Reapers261
      @Reapers261 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. Toyota also had a huge recall on their truck frames... They were rusting away. Toyota's 1.8l four cylinder is a very reliable and low maintenance engine though, probably why they haven't changed it even though it's weak as hell by today's standards. Their other engines are hit and miss. They are known to burn oil and they eat O2 censors which are not cheap to replace.

    • @arniejonassen
      @arniejonassen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reapers261 Yeah, Toyota's 1.8L is very reliable but most engines are nowadays except for maybe Land Rovers.
