Joe must be right about not many people doing pre-purchase inspections. I've done two in the last month with two different Honda dealers (a third stonewalled me). All three times, the person answering the phone in the service dept. had no idea what I was talking about. I had to ask to speak with the supervisor to confirm (the third hung up). Some call them used car inspections, buyer inspections, multipoint inspections. If there's confusion, they might think you're asking about a state inspection sticker or a lease return/inspection. Whatever the case, be polite and ask to speak with the manager. And as Joe said, the money is well spent. Instant peace of mind.

What is "can ez go 300,000K PLUS"? I bought a new 2013 Honda civic & it's been in the shop so many times. Replacing bearings, code & emission problems. It's also the noisiest car I've ever owned. Don't even think about listening to an audiobook in your Honda Civic. The road noise drowns out the audio. The seats are too hard to go on a long trip. Civics are just a car for college kids.

I have been burned with autos.... Here is my experience and my honest lessons.
My first car was an old buick lesabre which honestly did the job, but the subframe completely rusted and my transmission and engine sagged scraping the ground. I was young had no ability to work on it because I didn't really have a home or tools. Car got scrapped. Drove for maybe 3 years
My second car was a cheap Subaru outback that I got for cheap and again I didn't really know much about cars at this time I had the Subaru only a short time before it blew up on the highway leaking oil all over the road. Subaru got scrapped. Drove for maybe a couple months.
My third car was a Saturn Vue. At this point I started to kinda learn more about vehicles, I drove this car maybe 1 year, it was clean body wise and interior wise but it kept just shutting down on the road and I wouldn't be able to start it again. I think it had something to do with the ECU putting it into limp mode. I think they put the ecu right on the engine for some reason and so what would happen is that on a hot day it would cause problems with the limp mode. I was able to sell that car.
I was depressed, but my mom actually helped me get an 02 Hyundai Elantra, at this point I STILL didn't know much about cars, but I was looking at used cars on craigslist and me and my mom saw an 02 Hyundai Elantra for $1k, we went to go look at it, a mechanic said it was ok enough and my mom for some reason gravitated to it. I was skeptical because it was a Hyundai, but my mom was able to get the lady who owned it down to $500. That car was the biggest automotive blessing of my life. I drove it for 8 years with very little problems and maintenance. The car was sht don't get wrong, the handles didn't work, the windows barely rolled down, it was beat up, the plastics were breaking, the ac worked but the buttons were finnicky, BUT it was reliable and reasonbly fuel efficient. I saved up a LOT of money because of that car. I ended up giving it away just recently because I was moving states and there is a young girl who helps my mom clean and I wanted a truck so I gave it to her. Kinda regret giving it away to be honest.
The truck I got was a 91 f150. By this point in my life I actually know WAY more about cars than I did and I thought I could maintain that old F150........... I was WRONG. That thing had PROBLEM after PROBLEM, I am currently in the process of either selling it or scapping it.
Currently I am in an 06 Honda Civic with 206,000 miles and the car is still clean and drives well, everything works well inside of it, we will see how long it lasts.........
I have currently learned that SEDANS are the way to go. After working on the truck I realized just how much more expensive working on a truck is vs a car. The tires are way more expensive, the parts are way more expensive. These Sedans I have had have all been decent cars. So from now on I am giving up on trucks unless I ABSOLUTELY need one, I am sticking with sedans because they are cheaper to buy, they are more reliable, the have cheaper maintenance cost, and I just personally have had great experiences with sedans.
Another thing I have learned is it's all about maintenance. The truck was poorly maintained, the Subaru was poorly maintained, the Lesabre as well. When buying a used car the owner history and maintenance are HUGE. The Elantra was beat up and probably poorly maintained but man it still just ran for some reason idk. For used cars how it was treated is VERY IMPORTANT.
I have watched "the car angel" and I completely agree with everything he said. The 06 Honda civic I am in has 200,000 miles yet the brake pedal has very little wear, and the front has tiny little rock chips from driving on the highway. I can tell these miles are mostly highway miles, the interior is mostly good.
So I think looking at the brake pedal, steering wheel, looking at the body panels, looking at signs of maintenance or shoddy repair work is very important when buying a used car. I have saved up money so from now on I will only be buying 1-2 owner sedans with good maintenance history. Mostly looking for Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus sedans, but if I find a really good deal on a Hyundai, or a Nissan, I might look into it. What I like about the Civic over the Elantra I had is that I can just tell the Civics interior is built WAY better. That Elantras interior was all broken apart and cheap.
SUVs trucks, hatchbacks, come at a cost. Bigger engines, bigger transmissions, bigger tires, bigger brakes, lower fuel economy, more expensive, on and on and on. I think Sedans are the sweet point for frugality. I read an article that often Sedans can have more USABLE cargo space than hatchbacks. I still think hatchbacks have more cargo, but don't be so quick to throw out the sedan.
I would only buy a truck or a van if I had a business that required it, nowadays I would rather just rent a truck for moving, etc. If you are a young person just looking for a low maintenance vehicle that is RELIABLE. I would definitely look into 4 cylinder Asian sedans. Find something that was taken care of, and you should be good!

I'm kind of a fan of having additional undercoating done. I've had mine undercoated after I bought new. I've seen other vans, trucks, rust and it gets ugly. My car I've had since 2007 and it's condition is still like new in 2022. I also try to keep in the garage as much as possible. I think back then it was Zeibart I had done? I don't know if Zeibart is still around. But winters don't bother me. Also, after salty wintry roads, get your car washed to also help get that road stuff off the bottom.

I found a 2012 Civic LX 5 speed in good condition. 88k miles with good owners. The biggest service was a clutch replacement in 2020. Biggest cosmetic issue is it may need a new paint job. Had a small fender bender bumper but only cosmetic. Drives and shifts into every gear with no grinds or pops. Clean fully stock everything. They wanted $8300 and got them to go to $7500 due to the paint. One side of the hood line looks a little off compared to the other side. Clean carfax but that only shows what was reported. The current owners dont know if the previous owner had any accidents not reported. Thoughts anyone???

Hi Joe, hopefully you’ll be able to answer as I know this vid was posted a while ago, I’m looking at purchasing a 2015 Honda Civic EX the listing price is $17,500 but all together with tax it’ll be about $20,000 it has 67,000km and everything looks great besides the fact that it’s been in 3 accidents, first question is do you think that’s way too much money? After watching this video I’m really rethinking it haha and also what do you think about buying a vehicle that’s had accidents before?

I'd ask if people worried about the service and repair issues compared to Honda and Toyota and pretty much every person I said that to looked at me like I was a lunatic.
