  • Prepare for non-stop Vline action on the Melbourne to Geelong broad gauge tracks filmed from sunrise to sunset on 6 January 2011. You'll see over 50 Australian trains featuring a variety of V/line motive power and rollingstock, including Sprinter and Vlocity railcars along with "N class" locomotive hauled passenger trains.

i gotta say, this video played a huge part in my childhood. Growing up i had an unhealthy obsession with trains, specifically v/line, and this was the go-to video i would always watch.
this video really helped shape my career desires in the near future as ive signed up for work experience at v/line.
thank you for uploading this video PoathTV, im forever grateful

I was also fascinated with vline and finally went on a trip to Bairnsdale this Tuesday. Great experience and absolutely worth it for $10.60

Wonderful video, folks it pays not to pan when a train comes by. So many pan I get seasick watching those videos. If you have to pan, just do it just a bit or very rarely the full 180 degrees.

The drivers honk at you pretty often in australia. For me it's only once managed (see video RRF G2000 (RRF G2000 (met typhoon) met de Coevorder Containertrein)). For me it is high that drivers kindly hand on stabbing, there you have it with me had it.

The little "X" signs next to the track indicate to the driver that there is a road crossing at that location and so a warning blast is required to warn Motorists of the approaching train. Legally required warning.

The passenger trains are all running on the two broad gauge lines, there is a third line for the standard guage. There are some broad gauge freight trains (including cement, gravel, grain, & shipping containers) to destinations in Victoria. The standard gauge line is the interstate route to Adelaide and Perth used by freight and The Overland passenger service.
A Vlocity is seen at 0:55 in the movie, Sprinters at 6:56.

All the trains shown in this movie run on diesel fuel.
There are many more types of passenger trains in Australia, search my channel and you'll see different types of diesel passenger trains and railcars, and also lots of suburban electric trains.

One of the absolute best videos I've see. Thank you so much for sharing! The broad guage is really great. Most countries in Europe have the meter guage and really crowdy. Take care!

The Vlocity railcars can do 160km/h, Sprinter railcars 130km/h, and the loco hauled sets 120km/h.

The Vlocity railcars were manufactured by Bombardier Transportation in Australia.

They have earned a good reputation for reliability too.

The Vlocity sets only have economy class seating, the "Inter City" and some other loco hauled services have first class seating. First class gives you more space (2+2 seating versus 2+3 in economy, and more legroom in first class too) but naturally that luxury costs more. The morning train to Geelong won't be too crowded, so it's a good one to consider even for economy class.
The Vlocity can go faster than a loco hauled train, but usually makes more stops along the way.

how do they work? i dont understand where thay put the diesel engine cause the diesel tilt trains up here in qld have seperate heads on either end that are powered, so how small is the motor in those things?

Your videos are great! I notice this line is not dual gauged. Do they run freight on this line? which are the Vlocity railcars and which are the Sprinter railcars?

The only passenger train that runs on standard gauge on this route is The Overland. Freights and grain trains were uploaded as separate movies.

It's Australia, there's venomous snakes *everywhere*! I've seen a few large Brown Snakes when filming around this area - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_brown_snake
