- . Reminiscent of the old days when 567's could be heard for 10' before and after they were seen these three are hard at work on Warrenheip Bank with 9162 grain train from Charlton to Melbourne.
All video is now shot in HD do if you like this you will like these EMD 567 gems :-
• Classic EMD's blasting...
• Roaring EMD's : 4CM7 c...
• Battle on the 2% grade...
• EMD and ALCO : ElZ at ...
• EMD 567 sound spectacu...
• Old EMD's, epic strugg... - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Here in the US, engine with 567s are rare, they're either in museums or working for a short line. Never thought i'd hear 567 hard at work in notch 8 in HD sound. Favorited right away! Great vid!!!!!
Anyone else shiver listening to that? First time for me was 1964 on the N&W with 8 GP9's, 4 pulling, 4 pushing 100+cars, around 12,000 tons of coal. Sounded just like this.
These vids are just simply priceless captures. Thanks so very much for bringing back memories.
Respect to the trainspotters for making Grade A content ahead of its time quality-wise. I’ll be adding all your videos to my train playlist.
I've always preferred the Turbo powered 645's as far as sound goes (that low frequency rumble) but by far the prettiest thing to ever hit the rails were the F units. It makes me happy that there are still some putting in work "down under". Much love for our Australian brothers.
Crew members are all leaning hard on the throttle. Great show of power and determination. "I think I can..I think I can..."
Stalling could be very bad I think.
Chris Rasmussen I KNOW I can...
I doubt for this "suspension", I guess they pray for everything goes well. Small failure - temporary slip, even rat on rail - and end of ride.
If they have women train drivers, the ladies should be “on” - they get an extra three notches, such that the throttle goes up to eleven.
(At least, that’s what happens in fiction.)
With the paintwork on those engines it really is easy to think of the Santa Fe. Nice to see that somewhere in the world these fantastic old timers still live.
Actually that paint scheme reminds me of Erie Railroad's freight paint scheme of the 1950's
Victorian Railways Blue and gold
At first I thought it was likely based on the virginian railroads livery
The VR ripped the Erie Freight scheme and slapped it on to ours
Or the Erie, with the yellow wings
Man, thank you, thank you! This was great! It takes me back to when i was a kid in Vancouver BC. Late at night in bed every so often i could hear this sound as units of CN to the north of me, and GN to the east of me would pull hard leaving town. Great job filming this for us all! Thanks, Kev from Canada.
Air conditioned cabs? Nope!
Computer controlled adhesion control? Nope!
Still pegging the amp meter after 50 years? Yep!
Were those things always that loud or is it just because they're old? Where I walk in the hills, you can always tell if a 2200 is coming. They sound like a chaff cutter.
it's just the way they were built, the technology in the day wasn't around to make them quieter like now.
The car body design of these locomotives is timeless. I wish they were still in production with modern prime movers and all the other amenities we have today.
Super charged 2 stroke engines have a sound all their own
You just can't beat the sound of 567-16s in Run 8.
What a cracking sound!!
I have to admit I'v been searching the web for a non-British diesel that (in my opinion) makes a descent noise and I have to say this is the first time I've been really impressed!
Damn! I can almost smell the Diesel exhaust and hot traction motors! Those old beasts are really working their butts off.
Wow, this has got to be one of the best railroad videos around. Excellent camerawork, and those are some of the best EMD sounds I've ever heard. Wonderful footage!
First-class video. See any hazy blue smoke from those 567's or around the trucks? That is some well-maintained power doing what it was designed to do and it's certainly not being abused.
I love the double enders (no need for a turntable!).
seems like Mr. and Mrs. emd and their friend made this climb up saying "getting old ain't for wimps" and "we made it from bottom to top"
For some reason whenever I'm looking at rail videos on TH-cam I often seem to wind up at this one! :)
If only it had been after I upgraded to a HD camera. Still, the sound's good.
Another "THANKS" shout-out from Canada!!! That was fantastic! I have to listen to that at home with the speakers cranked!
Great footage there Rod , It's great to see them in their "Proper" colour scheme & sounding so good once more.
Holy shit Mate! This looks just like being taken back in time to the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania and watching the Erie Lackawanna run Ore trains!! Glad to see that Australia uses our system for CTC and for trains and signaling to! I knew we Americans would rub off on someone sooner or later. :) :)
Ever notice ya just don't see old GE's or Alco's doing this sort of heavy lifting 65 yrs old.
EMD is simply the epitome of sheer pulling power.
I ran ex- GTW GP-9's on a Michigan shortline for many years. There was a 2 mile stretch of maybe
1 percent grade.
Two Geeps, 567C, 3500 h.p., Roots blowers just a whining, pulling 30 loaded grain cars, uphill, at 10mph. Oh, on jointed rail, rocking a bit.
The thumping, stacato roar from the stacks, with beautiful grey exhaust shooting fifty feet upward, was absolutely awesome & intoxicating to my senses !
Pure pulling power at notch 8 !
As sweet as a P-51 Merlin engine sound !!
I still say the B class in RV blue and gold was the best looking and best sounding loco.
Those are very nice, EMD oughta bring that design back for a while.
Each night i listen for the sound of an EMD 645... It comes at around 23.42 going north. That bassy sound. Can hear it from about 2km away.
Mate you have goto admit if only 6 poeople didn't like this after 105 000 viewings it must be alright. I just tought my son (3.5 years) how to count to 30 watching this!
Keep up the good work Trainspotters!
Great video! What a sound! 5* & fav's!
Rich
that sound is amazing
Nice to see a double ended diesel at work,it was good that you panned around as B74 went by.Cheers.
nice art work on grain cars
Thanks for posting this !
Great locos working hard. Nice video.
Great clip! Those classic diesels look fantastic, and are obviously being shown no mercy despite their OAP status.
that sound is pure awesomeness
That is the best diesel engine video I´ve seen so far. And I´ve seen a lot of railway videos. What a sound. Beautiful classic engines. Nice camera work.
Thumbs up! :)
Superb video, what a great sound those loco's make.
Downright beautiful to see, and especially to hear. Thanks for a great video.
A great clip of some handsome locomotives hard at work. My compliments
orsome footage with the locos at full power. Well done Rocketboy. Wish i was there to see and hear the sound of the locos working hard.
I remember them well. On Saturday arvos when I was playing cricket at Russell Square Ballarat East, the umps used to stop the game while a brace of 567s roared up the hill. Noel in Perth.
@WBDE I think it was based on the SD7. We never used the 24RL brake here. We mostly had the A7EL and then went to the 26L. Of course the newer locos now have the modern computer based equipment but none that I get on do.
wow, you could hear those long before you can see them. nothing like hearing a 567 or a 645 in run 8!!
Pure diesel power . . . . . . . that's what it's made for. Thanks for posting.
This is the perfect acoustic orgasm, it even beats the Tailem grainy chase, another Aussie video with these old beauty's hard at work.
The sound remembers me the chase of iron ore trains with classes 52 and 53 in Belgium, for witch the class B was the pattern.
Love all the cool videos you got!
Who knew I'd have to go halfway around the world to see F-unit look-alikes in Erie Railroad livery.
Excellent video!
Fantastic video Rod.
Wish I coul have been there!!!!!!!
I've just up loaded my vid of an A class departing Werribee with a down Geelong pass. Love your videos man, been a fan for months.
An excellent video. ♡ T.E.N.
Exceptional camera work. Great video
Thanks for the info, thats mightily impressive work for that trailing load on a 2% grade with old power like these.
Great to see B74 and S303 etc all still running around. I used to chase these trains and many more all over vic to refuel them at all hours of the night and day. Great work
Thanks, Very nice video I enjoyed watching a couple times...or more.
There is nothing in this world that could beat that sound!!
Thanks for the info.
Reminds me of the days of Arrarat with big C's blasting over the hill and the lights of an arriving jet shining down the highway. Was always good to hang around the bridge and take a peek at the shunting in what was a very busy yard.
The best answer I can give you is that there are still similar 567's of this era running in Victoria and New South Wales.
Best. Sound. Ever.!
That engineer got the throttle to the 8th Knot . pulling that constant.
Now this is what you call TRAIN STRAIN! Beautiful sound as well as country wherever it is. :-)
i remember these with the blue white livery when my dad was the station master at Maroona
I don't believe they were ever painted in a blue & white livery.
I live about 5 mins away from there. I can usually hear them as they start off from the station. I sometimes drive up there and catch them as they go under the bridge at the top of the grade. The sound is fantastic and extremely loud as they slowly go under. Yes, the track diverges soon after the bridge, right to Geelong and left Melbourne.
Awesome stuff mate, as always!
Great video. Those engines are working very hard.
Awesome, id love to see old units like that. Used to see them all the time on New York Central until the late 80's early 90's
Dunkirk NewYork FL9's.
Not many cars, but loaded to the gills, great video thank you.
Firstly thanks. Tthese are really two separate tracks in that the older one is freight only and low speed whilst the other is a high speed almost entirely passenger traffic.
Such power, fantastic.
@SD457500 The Victoria Railways C class would be the one most fitting the description. 10 were built and all are still running. C501 is in the original livery and currently on hire to the same mob that feature in this video.....also the same colours.
the sheer tenacity and effort is amazing --- of the grafitti peeps!!!!
It's always nice to be able to duck below the windows just before you hit a fallen tree. It's also an advantage to know if that thump you just heard was a sheep or a human.
Yeah. And also, if the driver see something he can blow the horn. Not to mention that everybody likes to see exactly where the oncoming train is.
Yes, I love this video.
Regardless of your continent, that's railroading right there baby!!!!!! My hat is off once again to our Australian pals.
Sweet sound my friend, God bless!
Phwoah that sound!!!
These three are 1500 900 1800HP. All of the new stuff is up around the 4000. The trains have changed significantly since they built these old girls way back then.
Listen to those 567s!
I like the guy walking the dog at around 1:05, the dog obviously barking like crazy at the train.
Very nice video !
Excellent Video! Our Prez. B.O. would have a fit, carbon emissions and all, he's never seen U.P. 844 sanding the flues! HA!
Great EMD sound...
awesome vid! Sure love the covered waggons!
this one of the things ,hope to have here in brazil
i WILL HAVE TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU TOLD ME IN THE PAST ABOUT VIDEO SETUP. THATS SOME NICE QUALITY VIDEO WELL DONE.
@WBDE Now there's a coincidence because I am also working on the ML2 in this clip tomorrow evening. Happily with just four passenger cars. The roadbed in the foreground is for 100mph passenger trains. The freight is on a poorly maintained 50mph freight line. The railway here always flogged everything and we frequently ran over the ruling grades at about 10-14 mph. This hill is just a few miles long and then it gets a down hill run for about 50.
Very nice video and sound :o)
@TrainTrackTrav We have a pile of the old girls working down here. CFCL have quite a few on the books here.
PS: I also sure to love that Erie RR livery. Wish other Australian lines could be as tasteful! These are great videos, thanks for posting.
Correct, we never used them here but old folk like me that used to buy things like "Trains" magazine ( because we had none of our own back then ) certainly know about them/
Thanks for the clarification, Rod. The slogs certainly make a good spectacle!
great video , thumbs up!
The operator is ( really ) El Zorro Transport. The locomotives are hired from a heritage group. I drive for them on a casual basis.
loud when i was a kid back in the 50s and early 60s we lived right on southern railways main line in greensboro nc those f and e models were real loud i'll never forget that sound
These bulldogs look like E units but are all single motored F7 derived on C-C SD trucks requested by VR in 1949. So the VR request is a major part of the reason the SD truck was developed.
@mercenary454 Its more of an F unit based on an SD7 I believe.
Ah Australian EMD's...love tht sound..the first unit reminds me of my F24C..which is based off of the Class A... except my (American Version) of the Class A has only one cab..i hope to buy or build a Class A soon... great vid!!!
Simple control cables that plug in to each unit.
Very Good!
Damn Right!!!! I live in Milwaukee and Milwaukee Road's old mainline to Chicago is in my backyard which is uphill for a few miles. and when CP runs a couple SOO SD40's at notch 8 with a full load, you can hear it and feel it for miles!!!!!! I know it's not the same as a 567 but kinda close.
The re-engined Metropolitan Vickers C class in Ireland had an 8 cylinder 645 GM unit of 1,100 hp with the double exhaust outlet similar to these units. Only the roar was a bit louder at 900 rpm in notch 8.
Well Rocketboy, you should have kept that rolling right to the end, even way after that train had gone. Absolutely fantastic!! brings me goosebumps, reminds me of my younger days listening to the T's during the night passing through Kyabram with GH and GY's in tow on a crisp still night 5min even after the train had gone "Oh what memories"
Wow, great!
