Can’t go wrong the entry grade rx-78 gundam. I’m just getting back into it too after playing Gundam versus and Gundam evolution. I started with a rg 00 gundam which was a really fun build surprisingly not too difficult. Good luck with whichever kit you settle on!
Its wild to see the official prices of these kits considering how much they go for. Everywhere I look the SF EX is pretty much double its retail price. Even my local shop sold my hg Aerial to me for $17. Who knew these kits were actually affordable.

Regarding the blue beams for Aerial, I think that's a hint at future plot development. As we saw in prologue, during a real fight, the beams are mostly in blue, but during school mock battles they use green beams. Recall that in the final episode when the upgraded Aerial comes out and still using green beams, there was a person making a comment on how the weaponries are not tuned for actual fight, suggesting that all the green beams we see are in some sort of reduced energy output mode/training mode. It'd imply the real colour for Aerial's beams should be blue if it's tuned for actual combat. At least, that's my interpretation.

The first Master Grade I built after making some high grades from Target was the Master Grade Strike Freedom Full Burst Mode that I saw at my local Japan store. It was really cool, came with its own display stand and all these pieces for the funnels. I didn't paint it or panel line. It just looks so good on its own
I love the Aerial design but I'm waiting for a master grade version. I've been eyeing the MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam for a while too - fantastic looking kit.
same still couldn't get my hands on both Aerial and Lfrith and If i have enough money I'll buy the mgex strike Freedom next unless Aerial and Lfrith are back in stock in my local gunpla store so mgex freedom have to wait or maybe just buy all 3 of them😅
It's a transformer kit almost without the headache of a transformable kit you'll see in Bandai kits even the actual decent old ones. And both forms actually look great.
Just recently started getting into Gunpla and love it, my first kit I did a couple years ago and it was HG Gouf custom I think it said on the box? I’ve now done a HG Helios, HG Chars Zaku II, HG RX-78-2, and a HG Unicorn. Currently waiting on three more kits to arrive. The HG Gundam 00 command Qan[T] which I saw here, the RG TallGeese, and a RG Sazabi. Loving this hobby so much
I just finished building the PG seven sword 00 and as much I love PGs, after building some RGs recently I'm really blown away by how much these kits have matured over time. Especially if you compare a modern High grade to the old Wing and X kits from 2 decades ago, which feel like a downgrade from even the entry grade kits. Love the content! Keep up the great work, I'm on my way to my local gunpla shop to locate a MGEX Strike Freedom now
I'm happy to say, last year was the year I finally got into Gunpla. It all started when I stumbled on a HG Helios in a Barnes and Nobles and decided "Eh, why not." And it was all downhill from there. I spent most of the year trying to find a place near me that actually carried Gunpla regularly, and actually found some at a local target. So I have since expanded my collection with a HG Heavyarms, Livelance Heaven, and Barbataurus, and am very excited to see what I can get my hands on this year. Some of these new TWFM kits look positively amazing~
You have a sizeable number of TWFM Gunplas for 2022, and most are HGs. I could say there wasn't much variety of gunpla releases the past year. Having said that, For new Gunpla releases the past year, I only got 2 from this list: the EG Nu Gundam and the RG Hod Gundam (which I got myself for Christmas). TWFM lineup got sold out quite fast from stores esp the Aerial and Lfrith. I was waiting for your top 10, though, I thought you had released it earlier. Great to have watched it. Keep it up!
I was sitting on the couch last week and my wife said “don’t you usually do a best Gundam of the year video” I literally heard that record rip sound in my head
Unicorn is my favorite series so I was determined to make the PG perfectability my first PG build, and HO BOY it didn't disappoint. An absolutely beautiful kit that I have sitting on the top of my shelf next to all my other unicorns. I will say though, as someone who got the divine expansion kit.....those fuel canisters make it so hard to put anywhere due to just how LONG they are. So sadly I just have them sitting elsewhere, but with the rest of the armaments attached, it really finishes the look. Also, this was my first kit to do lighting in, and while I enjoyed it and the end results are amazing, man the wires in the shoulders was hell on earth to align.
Started my gunpla last year and built the MG Wing Gundam ver ka., RG Hi Nu, HG RX-78-2 revive, HG Aerial and a bunch of SDs. Started this year with the HG Darilbalde. So far I am enjoying the hobby and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.
For just starting a little over a year ago was that ver ka challenging to build? I have MG sazabi ver ka I've been afraid of starting and been building gunpla for about 8 months but already got at least 60 kits x.x
21:11 iirc Aerials beam sabers are green in the show because of duels, in a real fight i think they would be blue, there's even a teaser animation of her fighting in space with blue beam sabers
Now number ten i like, which is the Chu Chu Demi Trainer, because green is my favorite color. And it seems it don't take too much time, or too complicated to put together. Plus i'm getting back in to model building, cause i need something to get my mind off the internet.
My favourite kit from 22 was probably the 00 Command Qan[T]. It’s really poseable, solid and the colour and quality of the plastic is great 🎉 looking forward Mayo your videos this year!
I haven't built any gunpla since 2020 when I got Covid. I avoid building gunpla because of the paint particles that I may inhale during the painting. Now, looking at this list I think I can start building MG ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos and MG Lunamaria Gunner Zaku Warrior which stays in my cabinet since the first quarter of 2020. Happy to see this list and now I feel that I need to see the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. Thanks for this @mecha gaitkotsu and also thank you for staying in the hobby!
The biggest thing i appreciate from the designers of modern HG and that EG NU kit, designing the best way to avoid awful seams. I was cleaning up an old EW wing gundam MG kit that had some broken parts and it looks cheaper than the EG kit... The biggest thing RGs need to eliminate are the eye stickers.
No wonder it took you a time to post the top 10 Gundam of year 2022. You're the legit in Gundam review. Have bought only half of your top ten. More power to you and your channel.
Won't forget when last year my Girlfriend gifted me my first every MG it was the MG OVA RX-0 Unicorn and well it was the first gundam that I owned, I'd hang out often with her older brother who adores these and helped him build his HG and a few MG, I gotta say it was a nightmare building it but once it was done I was satisfied, been a year and I'm going strong (My wallet is crying). Last month her brother gifted me the MG Astray Red Dragon as a birthday gift which he had as a duplicate, I'll never get tired of building these I'm going for that MGEX Strike Freedom
i've never been a mecha guy, but witch from mercury has caught me hook line and sinker, and it's been a month since i built my first kit. i had literally 0 idea what i was missing, these things are fucking awesome LMFAO so far i've built the rx-78-2 revive and lfrith; the grandaddy was fine, but lfrith was the one that blew me away. the build was fun, the detailing is insane, and posing it is a blast. i've already got my eye on a bunch of kits; the rg god gundam looks super sick, i love the 00 designs so i'd like to check those out, and i'd love to grab the full mechanics aerial a few months after it inevitably sells out lol this channel's been fantastic for introducing me to the hobby as well, thanks for the content dude.
And the absolute lack of regular release of MG in this ranking says a lot about the direction Bandai is taking. Great video as always and congratulations on the new house! 🔥
could you do a list of the best non-gundam model kits? I mean there are a lot that bandai has been dishing out this past few years, like the HG Super Robot Wars, RG Gaogaigar, RG Evangelion, HG Dragonar, plus the Shokugan Modeling Project line
My friend slowly turned me on to building gunpla, and I've built a few RG kits as I like the scale and detail level. My girlfriend got me an entry grade kit for Christmas and I'm quite impressed with it for the quality and level of detail for how much easier it is to build. I would definitely recommend the entry grade line if you don't already have years of building models under your belt like I did when I got into the hobby.
no wonder the mgex is no1, yesterday my unit just got home ,,and the gold is absolutely fantastic ,next step is to find the right time building it ,while waiting for MG aerial..good work pal. i usually check your rank before buying a gunpla,, but my decision to prepurchase MGEX SF 1 year before is right in every ways.
As always another amazing list of amazing kits. I thankfully own most of these in the list but need to get my hands on a couple more namely the MGEX Strike Freedom
First of all, I can't thank Mecha G enough for all the kits I've been exposed to and subsequently bought due to the reviews. I've been building some Kotobukiya kits here and there for the last decade, and in 2022 I took a plunge into Gunpla proper. Back in september I felt a need to get an RX-78-2 kit. And in doing my research of which one to get I discovered Mecha G's channel. And the rest, as they say, is history. So the first of my kits in 2022 ended up being MG Granddaddy v 3.0. A fantastic kit that made me appreciate RX-78-2 so much more. HG L-Gaim and L-Gaim Mk-2 are very nice kits to add to my Super Robot Wars collection. Simple HG kits that don't do anything earthshattering, but do what they are supposed to do very well. And have a nice interactivity with each other to boot. HG Gespenst is another great addition to the SRW collection. It was especially fun to see it side by side with the old Kotobukiya's Gespenst Mk-2 and note similarities and differences in their design and engineering. For some time during 2022 I've been on a look out for a GaoGaiGar and I almost couldn't believe my eyes when one morning I opened up TH-cam and was greeted by Mecha G's review of RG GaoGaiGar. Of course, this kit ended up in my posession soon after. Such a good looking and enjpyable kit. Now, I wasn't ranking the kits I've built in 2022, just listed them, but the following ones are most definately my Top 3. Numbers 2 and 3 are fenomenal RG Nu Gundam and RG Hi-Nu Gundam. I'm not sure which one takes which spot. They are both equally awesome, I built them both back to back on Christmas weekend and I enjoy them so much more for it. It was so fun to see how Bandai has managed to make them ever so similar, yet ever so different at the same time. And my number one is the one, the only, the mind-shattering RG God Gundam. This tiny guy is made of pure black magic. I still can't believe how much detail and sheer awesomeness is packed into such a small kit. Every time I look at him I feel an urge to put him into a new pose. And he effortlessly puls off each and every one of them. This is the one kit each and every person in the world must build for themself. Even if you are not into gunpla, building and experiencing RG God Gundam should be legally mandatory. Once again, thank you, Mecha G, for all the reviews and all the great kits I've got as the result! I expect more great works both from you and Bandai in 2023!
A few of the everything that's really right about this list: First, every kit on this list, I either have it or have it on a wish list on one of my regular gunpla purchasing sites. Second, I was going to complain about how the MG Eclipse wasn't on this list, and then I remembered that that particular kit made last years list. 😆 Time sure flies when your Pile of Shame is getting larger... So when I think about it - wow. This is the first time I've ever completely agreed with anyone (including you) on a gunpla rating list. Congratulations...? 😁
My first gundam kit was the HG Gundam Aerial, Second Gundam was believe it or not the MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam. The jump in difficulty was really obvious to me but it wasn't that hard, it was so fun. Highly recommended for both model kits, especially The Strike Freedom. The Gundam On my shelf looks absolutely stunning
This is gonna be me lol. I have found the MGEX now available on US stores, although at a higher price than $120. Im probably gonna keep it backlogged and custom paint it before assembly.
Duuude nooo waaaaaay! I found your videos after just getting into gundam, and being at the gunpla workshop at LA comic con, and I just had to buy that Master Grade Extreme Strike Freedom when I saw it…. However… I had never built a gundam before… and Now I’ve finished it, and it looks so good and I love it and I’m itching to find my next model kit, and as I was watching this video, I thought to myself “did I buy the best one that there is and now Ill never find one thats cooler? I really hope not” and then thats exactly what you say in the video 😂😂😂 damn
I can't wait to get my hands on my MGEX Strike Freedom (already ordered but I still have to wait). First time I pre-ordered a kit and apparently it was a good choice. But 2022 was really a great year quality wise and I hope I'll get my hands on some Witch HG. At least Lfrith or Aerial, probably more.. But they're so hard to find. I actually only bought restock of HG IBO I wanted to get my hands on and some restock of P Bandai Seed kits in the whole year.
I was expecting Sazabi or metal build ARF but this is awesome too I agree with the MGEX it was over the top design and articulation it truly deserves the title Master Grade Extreme
mgex strike freedom is the best build i have since the mg full armor gundam. being a seed fanboy, cant hope for any other kit, just hoping they make PG stike freedom like this
I just did the MG strike freedom 2.0 . I’ve only done 5 kits. And I started with Barbatos (ibo got me back into gundam but I watched wing when it came out in America). It was such a fun kit. Now im eye candying this new one. I was saving for the MG endless waltz heavy arms…which I want really bad. But damn the new strike freedom blows my mind.
Out of the kits I got the best for me is the GM Spartan, got it right before Christmas. Just finished it yesterday. Looks stunning in a "real military" kind of way mixed with "not your normal grunt" aesthetics.
I bought many kits, but I only built the US Target exclusive Entry Grade America Gundam. I've built many MG kits before, but I've never painted or panel lined, so I used the EG to teach myself how to do all these detailing's. In 2023, I plan on disassembling a few of the MG I've built in years past to do panel line and add metallic Gundam Markers. I'm also hoping the America Gundam and regular EG RX78 goes on sale somewhere so I can kit bash the two with some custom paint job to make a Canadian Gundam.
I built a zeta gundam HG as my first ever gunpla! I bought the MGEX Strike Freedom because of this video because you said it's better not to be your first. Well, it's gonna be my second! LMAO
Congrats on the move and good luck with the unpacking and setup! Me and my brother just started late last year, and it's your videos that helped push us over the edge and deep into the hobby. My wallet hates you, but I think you're alright... :P I don't even have 10 builds yet, but loved the Full Armor Gundam Ver Ka, RG Eva Unit 00, and 86 tank builds!
Yeah, ngl Mecha, you're killing me with all the WfM kits. Mainly cause we still don't have hardly any of them stateside yet, lol. I did manage to score a Lfrith tho last year by pure luck. Haven't seen a Pharact yet and am waiting on the Aerial R.
For me, top 10 built 2022 10: Hg Zaku II f2 EFGF custom painted- solid grunt with compatibility with other zeon kits 9: Hg gundam RX 78-1 FSD- two kits in one plus compatibility with hg RX 78-2 is wicked good, just the joints get crazy loose over time 8. Hg juaggu- I know, the articulation isn’t all that impressive, but the goofy looks inspired by its acguy predecessor plus rocket fingers is a unique kit to spice up your kit collection. Just be careful of the arms, they break all too easily. 7. Hg gundam urban combat type- having built the FSD a few months earlier, I made sure to be more careful applying stickers to the joints. Nonetheless, this is a great kit for boosting one’s arsenal. Just be careful of the waist-it is poorly designed in my opinion and barely holds up. 6. Rg skygrasper- my first non-mecha aircraft kit, I found the f14 tomcat vibes and the highly detailed looks to be all impressive. An awesome kit for people who built mecha after mecha and want something new. 5. Hg Gm sniper k9- a fantastic kit, I see this as an overall better hg gm sniper 2. Sure, it doesn’t fix the joint issues but those can be easily fixed in kakarot197’s video. The massive sniper rifle, added armor parts, handguns, knife, and dog pack with figurines makes this the ultimate army sniper Ms. 4. Hg barbatos 6th form- this I customized with an upgraded color scheme, option set 1, kitbashing with my hg bael, and joint tightening. This is a great kit with so much compatibility and playability that even if you have the original, you need this one to not only get that full barbatos load out but the enhanced engineering of the inner frame 4 as well. 3. Hg P-bandai Tr-1 hazel- one of my personal favorite kits, the hazel intrigued me with its bulky legs and strange backpack, but I’ve come to like it. I’ll get this out of the way, I don’t like the arms- they get too loose too fasts, so if you have this kit, kitbash with any other kit with a few joints lying around. 30mm and build option sets compatible, the only reason I don’t have every single hazel variant is because they’re pbandai. 2. Hg P-bandai TR-6 Woundwort-I’ve never seen a kit with this kind of engineering before; the joints and armor poking through holes is radical compared to other classic HG releases, on top of a cute aesthetic and impressive parts formation, it’s a fun kit to build. 1. Mg eclipse gundam- the best kit I’ve ever seen, it has so much details and opportunities to enhance the color scheme with paints, all with rock-solid inner frame (I got lucky and the waist didn’t break) and solid transformation plus striker/silhouette/wizard pack compatibility makes this a great kit for experienced modelers.
@kivulifenrir which is whack, tho i think that kit was cool and all but its still disappointing. I'd even be okay with more re100 kits. I just like that 1/100 scale so much more.

I picked up a few long sought after pbandai releases. I really enjoyed this list and last years despite not being at all interested in a majority of them, because it allows me to see what all has come out and what was considered the best of the best for the last 2 years by you so I appreciate the vid
Glad I can help! I know what it’s like to take time out of a hobby and then try to scramble to get up to date 😁
@@MechaGaikotsu oh yeah definitely haha. Well this year I have some new found energy to jump back in the hobby so looking forward to more reviews and new kits alike
that number 4 intro made me cry unexpectedly
The first Master Grade I built after making some high grades from Target was the Master Grade Strike Freedom Full Burst Mode that I saw at my local Japan store. It was really cool, came with its own display stand and all these pieces for the funnels. I didn't paint it or panel line. It just looks so good on its own
I meant to buy that kit so many times when I was living in Japan. I kept telling myself I’d pick it up next time, but I never did…
The wfm kits are seriously so impressive. I mean you get insane features, accessories and poseability for hg prices. It’s just nuts.
10 - Chuchu punch never gets old... XD
I love the Aerial design but I'm waiting for a master grade version. I've been eyeing the MGEX Strike Freedom Gundam for a while too - fantastic looking kit.
same still couldn't get my hands on both Aerial and Lfrith and If i have enough money I'll buy the mgex strike Freedom next unless Aerial and Lfrith are back in stock in my local gunpla store so mgex freedom have to wait or maybe just buy all 3 of them😅
Tbh, the kit that impressed me the most this year was not from Bandai. It was Kotobukiya's Variable Frame System 01 Garudagear (Beluga).
for me, it was the vthor from koto, such an insane kit, I gotta get a garudagear if it's on the same level
Loving this hobby so much
Welcome to the hobby!! I love gunpla. My favorite part is making customs. Love it
I really hope the Pharact gets a 1/100 kit. I haven't been so excited by a non-UC MS design in a very long time!
the number 4 intro had me SHOCKED
My favorite are freedom gundam, infinite justice, barbatos lupus and aerial gundam
Keep it up!
I was sitting on the couch last week and my wife said “don’t you usually do a best Gundam of the year video”
I literally heard that record rip sound in my head
@@MechaGaikotsu no kidding?! You almost forgot? 😄
Im so stoked u do these lists! I usually buy most of them!
Glad I can help! Hope you enjoy the kits!
LOL I started my gunpla journey with the MGEX Strike Freedom, should have seen this video before the full review
MGEX S.Freedom is actually made me feel like build 3-4 kits ,he deserve that spot
I cannot fathom how long I have awaited this video yay
I cannot fathom how long I spent editing it 😅😅
@@MechaGaikotsu will you make a top 10 worst model kits of 2022?
i've never been a mecha guy, but witch from mercury has caught me hook line and sinker, and it's been a month since i built my first kit.
i had literally 0 idea what i was missing, these things are fucking awesome LMFAO
so far i've built the rx-78-2 revive and lfrith; the grandaddy was fine, but lfrith was the one that blew me away. the build was fun, the detailing is insane, and posing it is a blast.
i've already got my eye on a bunch of kits; the rg god gundam looks super sick, i love the 00 designs so i'd like to check those out, and i'd love to grab the full mechanics aerial a few months after it inevitably sells out lol
this channel's been fantastic for introducing me to the hobby as well, thanks for the content dude.
And the absolute lack of regular release of MG in this ranking says a lot about the direction Bandai is taking. Great video as always and congratulations on the new house! 🔥
I'm so happy Chuchu's demi trainer is included!
A smile ear to ear seeing this on my feed Sunday morning… your content is consistently amazing, love these year end list!
could you do a list of the best non-gundam model kits? I mean there are a lot that bandai has been dishing out this past few years, like the HG Super Robot Wars, RG Gaogaigar, RG Evangelion, HG Dragonar, plus the Shokugan Modeling Project line
Would be so keen for this!
This
If the MGEX STRIKE FREEDOM has the wing effect too , it may cost more but will become the extreme perfect kit of 2022
My friend slowly turned me on to building gunpla, and I've built a few RG kits as I like the scale and detail level.
Glad to see you moved to a larger house with more space for your hobby, I wish you and your family well
As always another amazing list of amazing kits. I thankfully own most of these in the list but need to get my hands on a couple more namely the MGEX Strike Freedom
I generally don’t build HGs but the HG Witch From Mercury kits are really impressive.
The RG Hi Nu Gundam has to give the MGEX Strike Freedom the Bright Slap to get it's crown back.
Both kings of having no display stand for their remote weapons 😆
That Number 4 intro was definitely "SMASHING" to say the least.
19:07 ey be careful mecha, it can trigger PTSD for some people
That actually caught me off guard lol
Loved the top 10 p-bandi list at the end!
I can't wait for Aerial Rebuild.
i’m loving the HG coverage!
I can't unsee the duckface on Chuchu's Demitrainer with those vulcans as eyes and the monoeye as lips lol
That’s the way I see it too!
@@Zuhnado gl man, but gotta be honest even without custom painting it it already looks gorgeous
@@CheckmateMLBB True. I'll probably see if its easy to disassemble so I can paint later on seeing that it would be a first favorite of mines.
Not surprised that MGEX SF took the top spot!
Glad you got a new place. But my favorite is the hi res.👌👍😛
I totally loved that advise about not making the #1 kit of 2022 as your first gunpla. Can't wait to actually see the upcoming MG SDEX variant.
3:04 ig you could call it the _HG-Witch_ line.
Congrats on the new house and having a proper garage space for build projects 👍🏼
Freedom taking the number one spot was expected, but still welcomed.
YES we have all the main mobile suits to gundam wing finally
*FYI Add $5-10 dollars to every price listed for accurate prices. Same as every year.*
@@anti-rioter-15 heavy arms is my fav in the wing series, go for it
@@abe7043 it’s pretty hard to find and not cheap…but I want it really bad. I love the color scheme.
@@anti-rioter-15 where do you stay? I manage to collect all the wing series most expensive coz pbandai

Some of these new HG are just so impressive, MG detail in a small and low-stress package ❤
Finally, it’s here
You missed out on Number 10, "ChuChu's Demi trainer punches above its weight class."
LMAO
Wow sungguh luar biasa
Bagaimana detail dari setiap mecha sungguh menakjubkan
Congrats on the move and good luck with the unpacking and setup! Me and my brother just started late last year, and it's your videos that helped push us over the edge and deep into the hobby. My wallet hates you, but I think you're alright... :P
I don't even have 10 builds yet, but loved the Full Armor Gundam Ver Ka, RG Eva Unit 00, and 86 tank builds!
For me, top 10 built 2022
10: Hg Zaku II f2 EFGF custom painted- solid grunt with compatibility with other zeon kits
9: Hg gundam RX 78-1 FSD- two kits in one plus compatibility with hg RX 78-2 is wicked good, just the joints get crazy loose over time
I bought the pharact because I wanted an armored core fix. I’m so glad Im not the only one that thought of it as an A.C
I know you’re posting this late into the month but I’ve been waiting to see it the whole time!
I'm still waiting for my astray powered arm delivery
so glad it made into the list
This video was so good you just earned a sub
Knowing someone who worked on armor core design a mobile suit makes me want to play the games
proud to say that the aerial was the one to break my hg v card (built last december)
My 2 fav kits that I made last year are the MG Infinite justice and the RG Hi Nu Gundam❤. Both solid and slick AF 👍👍
my fav part of the vid was how the transition clips changed from chuchu punch to aerial smash 🤣🤣🤣
Great editing on this video, all the shots of the GunPla look awesome , everything man !!
You might want to get the WOL for MGEX. It's a third party tho but it still looks awesome!
No one gonna talk about the intro to the Aerial gundam there? Best way to introduce.
Splat
As a primarily mg builder, it sucked how we pretty much got none this year.
Don't forget they're giving a MG spot to an SD by doing some tinkering and slapping MGSD on it.
@kivulifenrir which is whack, tho i think that kit was cool and all but its still disappointing. I'd even be okay with more re100 kits. I just like that 1/100 scale so much more.
@34:00 you made me imagine a G Gundam Dragon Gundam getting this MGEX treatment =O. That would be sooooo good
I’ve wanted a strike for awhile but haven’t liked any of them. This is the one for me. Glad to see how high you ranked it!

why did i watch this list? i watched every review on this list individually last year anyways LOL
I think BANDAI need to give this man an award...like really, this man is the reason we love gunpla and do some critics that help them improve their product
Definitely, I've based a lot of my gunpla purchases on this channel.
@@jrmarcus Same here. Gaikotsu’s reviews are my guide for all things gunpla.
