Just built the mg hi nu as it was my all time grail kit and i have to say its such an amazing kit. Im so happy with how the decals turned out and the build was really fun. Easily my favorite kit i own out of maybe 30 other master grades
Tied with the Sazabi Ver Ka as my favorite kit as well. And I don't care that they don't canonically go together, they're actually beautiful to pose together.
I'm new to building gunpla and am currently building the HG Barbatos when I decided to take a break and found your video. Happy I picked a cool looking Gundam and I will be getting myself a MG to build soon. I've been watching more of your videos lately and have to say I really like your channel. Thanks for all that you do!
Started with Gundam Wing on Toonami like so many back in the day, but 8TH MS team solidified my love of Gundam and what you said about it is spot on. First kits I got were A MG ZAKU II and a HG Gouf Custom cause of that series. 3rd was a HG Guntank lol Thanks for the great vids as always :)
Strange, my blue frame D isn't as bad as you describe, it has been 3 years on my shelf collecting dust since I straight build it and it still holds up on its own and fully loaded up without the action base.
Would be really cool if you could do a video along the line of top 5 “untouchable” vs top 5 solid/posable gunplas. Having seen the state of some of those Unicorn MGs, it’d be good to know what are the biggest hand grenades after a while
Justice for the D! The Astrays are all really great kits, and the D, honestly, is the only one that can actually hold its main weapons without drooping. Those TacArms pn the Second Revise and Kai are cool, but all of them need secondary stands and that severely limits the posting. When you trick out the D with its two giant combined "Sipel" swords, it's hugely impressive, but all of the swords can combine in a playable variety of ways, and that's rare for an MG. Plus, its flight pack is probably the best version of the AIle striker. I wonder if your opinion on the D might shift like it did with the Jesta, because really, even if it's the least of the Astrays (and honestly it's my favourite of them!) it's still an Astray, which is a unique and delightful Gundam design. ....otherwise great list. Heck, even with that difference of opinion, great list. And I suppose being in the bottom five, at least it's being discussed!
Tbh the best astray imo would be the red frame even tho the blue frame still holds up without those blades, but they should do a mg gold frame amatsu mina
@@ami-kun there are a few options for the Red Frame (the Kai, the Turn Red, the Red Dragon and the P-Bandai "standard") and they're all great in different ways - but more would always be better! If they can get the Amatsu Mina (and even Hana) to hold up that would be excellent.
tbh i didnt really like the head mounted daggers. the handles made it look like it has a pair of mouse ears. but thinking back maybe i shouldve gotten it instead of the mg red frame kai. i can always choose to not put those daggers on
@@razrafz the red frame Kai is an awesome kit and I don’t think you need to have any regrets! The TacArms bow form alone is one of the coolest Gundam weapons ever. The head daggers can just clip on to other ones, or you can hold them in its hands; the weapons do a lot of fun combination, but there really isn’t a “bad” Astray out there
Eventhough I am not a big IBO fan at heart, I agree that MG Barbatos has completely won me over to like the kit form's design. The engineering of this kit is awesome as well, I really enjoyed building it as it's a complete overhaul from the 1/100 wiggly flops. Though there are some kits that needed the revised/overhaul treatment than new IBO series MGs, I would not complain if Bandai decided to pump more. I know everybody is waiting for Lupus Rex but the holy grail for me is the Rebake Full City. Please make that happen Bandai!
Sadly, I agree with your assessment on the Ez8. It was also my first Master Grade kit and while mine has still held up well over the years, I wait with baited breath for them to come out with a 2.0 version.
MG Barbatos was my first master grade, its awesome I want there to be more iron blooded orphans master grade kits like Vidar and Bael and barbatos lupis rex as you said in the video.
Tbh I love MGs mainly for their size. Sometimes RGs can be better but generally MGs are the way to go. I'm excited to see what the future holds. Crossing my fingers on an MG Atlas but that's probably not happening anytime soon.
I realize I've only been building for a couple of years, certainly not full-time, mostly casually (snap, panel line, some paint touch-up) and wouldn't want to really do a bottom five, but of the builds I've done, here's what stands out as looking charming, feeling robust and having been fun to assemble: 1. Jesta - hefty, phenomenal hands, cool look, no unnecessary anything 2. Force Impulse - a real sweet spot between over-modern detail and classic pre-2010 zaniness. Also incredibly dynamic proportions -- I prefer the look over the RG. 3. Buster - the top of the Seed original five "HD Remix" pack, with the coolest weapon gimmick of any model, and also an all-business, utilitarian armoured look. 4. Astray Blue Frame D - the Astray's build is a truly unique experience, with lots of fully-working mechanism, exposed frame and layered armour. The D is the most fun of the bunch, with combining weapons that actually work together well (better than the weird latches on the Qan[T]) and a general sense of spiky excess that characterizes the more out theere SEED and Astray vibe. 5. Nemo - the true spirit of the '80s. Navy and turquoise, but ahead of its time with the inner frame goodness that would soon characterize the 2.0 Zaku and GM kits. A miracle of a grunt suit that also costs *less than the old, oddball G Gundam kits*.
found your channel a few months ago and marathoned a ton of videos off of it, then bought myself an MG Kyrios for Christmas as my very first build, including some panel lining. I'm halfway through it and i've already got my eyes on an MG Barbatos as well... this is entirely your fault lol
I can agree with a few of these (mainly the ones I've built), and I can say the Barbatos is one of my favorite kits (and it was one of my first kits, ever); but I'd probably put the Double X on my list. I can agree with the Jesta tho; I LOVE that kit - and yeah, they come in threes, and in black, almost something like a Tri-Star, maybe? LOL. I have a FAZZ in my queue, and I have the GM Dominance (which I hope is as good as it looks). Gotta give love to the grunt suits!
the funny thing about the MG Barbatos situation is that it is an easily milked kit due to the IBO Gundams mostly sharing the same inner-frame thus might be cheaper to produce by just slapping new armor on them and Bandai still took a long time to crank (pun intended) out a new one.
My Astray Blue Frame D hasn't had problems with things falling off, and yes it IS a straight build. The only issue I've had is that when the "swords" are fully combined, the blades don't stay in orientation quite perfectly (i.e. they sag a little) due to the small size of the joint used. But aside from that, no issues, especially not like Mecha mentioned. Oh, I do keep it on a stand, though. It's a SEED kit with all the balance issues inherent in those packs!
The MG Barbatos is the first MG I got and is the 4th Gunpla kit I own, I got it for my birthday and spent the next 2 weeks afterschool building it in my room, and damn was that a great 2 weeks. I have a bunch of robot toys in general and the MG Barbatos is my center piece and its incredible.
I don’t have a ton of MGs but the ones I do have is the mg barbatos, wing zero ew ver ka, epyon, and the heavyarms so they’re probably my favorite MGs since I have them, all of them are either pretty rad at minimum, to S tier great, I adore the ones I have
8th ms is what got me into gundam again as an adult and the ez8 as well as the gundam ground type are still two of my favourites, hope they make some updated kits because they deserve it but I won't go getting my hopes up
Man, my first kit was the EZ8. Just goes to show you that even the lesser kits can still get someone into the hobby. Side note I later went and watched the shows and yeah, the kit lacks a ton of articulation.
MG Gundam Barbatos (Clear Color ver.) was the first kit i ever built and i loved every second of it! It really has a that certain cool factor and it is what i would like to call; Perfection👌
If anything, the MG Barbatos is actually more Poster art accurate, rather than anime accurate, or even LINEART accurate on the wiki. or the promotional images accurate
I never view MG as Anime Accurate since Bandai purposely add new details into them that obviously wasn't there in the original design used in the Anime. Which is why imo HG (depending if it's a kit from UC or AU) is more Anime Accurate since the are well just what you expect in terms of looks, but the proportions does vary with every release since i see that newer HG revives had those Modern feel that doesn't belong to the original old school design
I remember building a g gundam MG as a kid… without nippers, just pulling them out of the trees and trimming it with a pit of scissors. It was my first MG and was not fun but so fun at the same time.
My barbatos is top one MG in your list. And I very agree, it so stable and awesome. And it brings me good luck when I build it. It's my lucky charm. Since then, I keep finding other barbatos to fill my display. ❤️❤️❤️
My fave MG kit is Strike Gundam Ver. RM. It's still my overall fave gundam out of all the series and the one model that i truly consider to be a rightful spiritual successor to the RX-78-2
I just picked up the Barbatos recently and the Gundam Base Limited clear one at that. Can't wait to build it. Nice to see the Freedom 2.0 as well, I have the clear one too. Will get the ZZ; actually couldn't decide between that and the FAZZ before. Also will to to start looking at the AGE - always ignored that line. Thanks for this list but now I don't want to build my Delta Plus and Victory Gundam kits, lol.
Freedom 2.0 is what I believe bandai originally envisioned for MG Destiny. Sleek design, lots of curves and sharp edges, and ofc wide range of (aerial) articulations/poses. Well seeing that seed now makes return with Eclipse, Destiny 2.0 maybe?
I dont know what's with the Seed MG, but most of them are simply amazing. Freedom 2.0 is like the creme de la creme. The same happens with most of the GM's with the 2.0 frame. GM Command, GM sniper 2...super cool kits. Even the "The Origin" version of RX782 wich shares some of the enginering. Hope that Bandai make more IBO MG in line with the Barbatos
Seed Zakus receive way more love from Bandai than the actual Zakus. But yes. Buster Gundam, Duel Gundam, Sword Impulse, the super beautiful Testament.. Seed is probably the best MG line out there.
The 1/100 MG barbatose is my first gunplay ever and the reason I got into gunpla, even though I may have not properly fit the torso to the waist it was fun and can’t wait to buy the lupos or another one and get the extension kit
My favorite MG was RX-78-2 Ver. 1.5. I enjoy the inner frame more when there are sliding bits, hydraulics, pistons, etc. Older kits seem like they have them more than new ones.
Built 3 Jesta’s too. 1 Jesta Connon and 2 Regular Jesta. To complete the Tri-Star Team. Disappointed about the Delta Plus really want one but heard alot of bad reviews about it.
I agree with Barbatos as number one. It was first and best MG I've ever built. Plus it helped me take my mind off things last November while building it.
Barbatos was kinda unexpected, it is also my favourite gundam of all. But the only issue is the hands, the hands usually fall off wjen i try to put a mace between it. its kinda hard to pose witht he hands, overall it is smegsie-legs cool ass gundam that i favour
Hey Mecha! I don't know if you know this but there is a metal frame for freedom and for some seed kits. Maybe you can review it. It's called 3r Metal Frame

My 2 points of each side: Best: I just build Freedom GUNDAM 2.0 recently. ITS INCREDIBLE!! Completely worth it! And thanks for the suggestion of the parts, Gaikotsu, I’ll keep it in mind. And a thought I had looking at some of the other comments, I have to wonder why Bandai has taken so long to get MGs for the rest of the IBO suits. Did barbie not sell well or what I wonder...
For MGs I have built the Wing Gundam Fenice Rinascita, and the 00 Qan[t]. Love them both, still pretty solid, and equally solid with one not particularly better than the other for quality. I've pre-ordered the Eclipse MG tho so I'm looking forward to that next. Had Dynames, Kyrios, Barbatos and many other on my list for a long time but can grab them at a reasonable price so I'm just focusing on what's coming out in the future instead.
CMIIW, rx-79 (+ez8) is the first mg that can crouch pose for recreate scene with 1800mm canon. And g gundam series are the first mg that can "almost perfect" arm folding pose like in anime
I have 2 Barbatos MG w expansion set and Clear. Never felt inclined to building it as it’s not a typical looking Mobile Suit . Maybe I’ll do the Clear 🤷🏽 , still a weird look robot 🤔
barbiiiiiieeee... couldn't agree more. build the kit to the inner frame, leave the armor and pose it until you get bored and want to build another kit another month or so. after you get bored couple of month later, either disassembly the armor to paint the inner frame or go with the expansion pack. build the 1st form, wait until bored, change it to 2nd form, wait and repeat until MG barbatos lupus come.
The MG Barby is a really cool kit. I just hate the way the shoulder armor connects onto the kit. I haven't been able to remove the shoulder armor without stressing the stupid C shaped clips and after the hooks get stressed the shoulder armor will go back in but won't do anything aside from flopping onto the arm.

I picked one up on a trip to Japan in 2019 and just got around to putting it together. Great kit.
It’s so sick, it’s really huge for a 1/100 as well. I love the aggressive look and the arm cannons. Coolest feet imo too
Strange, my blue frame D isn't as bad as you describe, it has been 3 years on my shelf collecting dust since I straight build it and it still holds up on its own and fully loaded up without the action base.
It’s not bad at all. Mecha g just has shitty opinions and a shitty mind for gundam models.
@@BlueAmerican26 WHOA CHILL
@@AdlyLuq 😂😂
@@BlueAmerican26 that one right there was a violation personally I wouldn't take it🤣
@@BlueAmerican26 Its his opinion mate
If he doesn't like it but we do thats perfectly fine
@@IlanMuskat same I just pray the Hana won’t be p Bandai because that would suck
tbh i didnt really like the head mounted daggers. the handles made it look like it has a pair of mouse ears. but thinking back maybe i shouldve gotten it instead of the mg red frame kai. i can always choose to not put those daggers on
@@razrafz the red frame Kai is an awesome kit and I don’t think you need to have any regrets! The TacArms bow form alone is one of the coolest Gundam weapons ever. The head daggers can just clip on to other ones, or you can hold them in its hands; the weapons do a lot of fun combination, but there really isn’t a “bad” Astray out there
Agreed. I own all the Barbatos variants on HG and would really like to see RG and MG versions of them
Eventhough I am not a big IBO fan at heart, I agree that MG Barbatos has completely won me over to like the kit form's design.
I bought all mg age kits man. They're really great and fun to put together. They're all so nice and simple yet badass plays on the 78-2.
Currently building the MGEX strike freedom gold frame. Glad to see your hopes came true with this incredible update! I’m loving it so far!
Sadly, I agree with your assessment on the Ez8. It was also my first Master Grade kit and while mine has still held up well over the years, I wait with baited breath for them to come out with a 2.0 version.
I miss the time when we are still hype waiting the MG Barbatos to release :)
Only built a couple MGs but the Wing Gundam Zero Ver.Ka was just so much fun.
I also felt the joy of building it, it's an extraordinary simple kit
It's lowkey
MG Barbatos was my first master grade, its awesome I want there to be more iron blooded orphans master grade kits like Vidar and Bael and barbatos lupis rex as you said in the video.
Everytime i watch your channel i feel satisfyed and happy . Awesome work keep it up
Plan to get that Barbs (mainly with the 6th Form) and Freedom 2.0 soon. I’m truly looking forward to giving these builds a try. Great video!
Tbh I love MGs mainly for their size. Sometimes RGs can be better but generally MGs are the way to go. I'm excited to see what the future holds. Crossing my fingers on an MG Atlas but that's probably not happening anytime soon.
I realize I've only been building for a couple of years, certainly not full-time, mostly casually (snap, panel line, some paint touch-up) and wouldn't want to really do a bottom five, but of the builds I've done, here's what stands out as looking charming, feeling robust and having been fun to assemble:
1. Jesta - hefty, phenomenal hands, cool look, no unnecessary anything
Vidar when also I would kill for a mg graze ritter
I wonder how Ein would "feel" about that pun?
I'd love an MG Graze cos that's one of my favourite grunts.
Bandai too busy making more unicorn variants
Was Too busy making MG Ginn that literally no one asked for 🤣
My Astray Blue Frame D hasn't had problems with things falling off, and yes it IS a straight build.
My first kit was the MG barbatos. Still holds up well after a year tho the only parts that have loosen up are the skirt front armor and the chin
I feel so old, I remember when God Gundam’s release with the inner-frame was so innovative and new.
15:56 Yall Barby's fan already got so many versions! where is my damn Vidar?
MG Gundam Barbatos (Clear Color ver.) was the first kit i ever built and i loved every second of it! It really has a that certain cool factor and it is what i would like to call; Perfection👌
I bought a delta plus in 2019 and I'm not having any issue with brittle plastic
13:36 CORRECT!!!
And that goes for all gunpla, not just master grades
If anything, the MG Barbatos is actually more Poster art accurate, rather than anime accurate, or even LINEART accurate on the wiki.
or the promotional images accurate
I never view MG as Anime Accurate since Bandai purposely add new details into them that obviously wasn't there in the original design used in the Anime. Which is why imo HG (depending if it's a kit from UC or AU) is more Anime Accurate since the are well just what you expect in terms of looks, but the proportions does vary with every release since i see that newer HG revives had those Modern feel that doesn't belong to the original old school design
I just started building gundam and i am having so much fun. I got the #1 MG for my birthday cant wait to start it.
Hearing Asu e being played during the MG Age 1 Normal part made me feel really nostalgic
Awesome video. I'm honestly surprised tho that the MG Dynames wasn't in here. Probably one of my favorite MG ever
Ive never been so early. Love your videos.
Thank you Mac!
Favorite MGs:
-Zeta 2.0

-Norris Packard's Gouf 2.0
I got the Freedom 2.0 for my birthday this year, and I can't believe how good it looks right out of the box.
I remember building a g gundam MG as a kid… without nippers, just pulling them out of the trees and trimming it with a pit of scissors. It was my first MG and was not fun but so fun at the same time.
My "mg barbatos" came in yesterday and I found out I got an unofficial version of the mg with some parts of the expansion set
Love that you had. Asu e playing in the back ground ❤️
15:57 Wait in line Lupus. it's Virtue's turn.
2:40 ouch that was my very first MG kit I ever build
Hope that Bandai make more IBO MG in line with the Barbatos
heck just look at the ginn, lunamaria and the other zaku-likes. theyre the best line of MG imo
Thank you Gaikotsu for another great video!!
Barbatos was kinda unexpected, it is also my favourite gundam of all. But the only issue is the hands, the hands usually fall off wjen i try to put a mace between it. its kinda hard to pose witht he hands, overall it is smegsie-legs cool ass gundam that i favour
I recently got the rezel. I haven't had any problems with the plastic so they mightve updated it
Hey Mecha! I don't know if you know this but there is a metal frame for freedom and for some seed kits. Maybe you can review it. It's called 3r Metal Frame
He'll probably review it after whatever new metal robots we just got are reviewed.
After the Lupus the Strike is very likely to come next just how it was with the Exia.

6:10 I 100% agree here. An MG 2.0 would be so nice.
It'd be nice if Bandai released the remaining main mobile suits for the MG AGE series.
The MG Mobile Fighter G Gundam series needs a reboot.
11:06 This is actually the MSN-001A1 Delta Plus.
12:20 I think it's likely Bandai will do an MG 2.0 or an MG release (for those without a kit) for the SEED Destiny line.
I think Bandai will also make an MG 2.0 for at least MG RX-79[G]Ez-8 Gundam Ez8 and RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type.
15:45 I'm sure we're going to get an MG ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Lupus and MG ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex. The question is how they're going to release it. Retail, P-Bandai, P-Bandai Add on set.
My favorite MG kit so far is the ms-07B-3 Gouf custom. Its sturdy and looks so cool
Got a reprint of the Delta Plus coming. I'll let you know if the plastic is improved.
I really love the video thanks so much! I just got into gunpla and my first kit was the Gundam Bael 1/100 full mechanics. I just ordered an MG Freedom 2.0 kit. Can you point me in the direction of where to find these upgraded metal parts for the waists that are prone to breaking?
3:15 "this is one of those kit kits i find is always falling over on my shelf"
maybe you should've use Action Base 5 to make it stand still. i use it on my 00 QAN[T] Full Saber and adjust it on standing position
10:54 is MG Victory Ver.Ka comes with Hexa head? just curious
I had already planned on making Barbatos my first Master Grade build.
Good to know my choice was a wise one lol.
I just finish the Delta Plus.
Unfortunately it still seems to have the same issues. Only messed around for it for a bin the joints for the arms already having stress marks and on top of that I had to tighten up the hips because the polly cap can't seem the hold the legs up.
Okay I should probably plan to buy one MG Barbatos later. Pair em up with 1/100 Bael and Kimaris, they will look good together!
hey I'd love to see a video of you going back and (re?)finishing some old kits like that Exia Dark Matter
My 2 points of each side:
Best: I just build Freedom GUNDAM 2.0 recently. ITS INCREDIBLE!! Completely worth it!
And thanks for the suggestion of the parts, Gaikotsu, I’ll keep it in mind.
Worst: I didn’t know EZ8 still haven’t had a Rerelease!! That GUNDAM Deserves a Modern version! EZ8 vs. Gouf is one of my favorite Mech Suit fights in GUNDAM period!!!
Mecha, could you do a Fenice Rinascita MG review? I'm buying one soon because I love how it looks like an enhanced Wing Gundam, but there aren't many reviews out there, and those I've seen I do not find satisfying enough or explicit so as to say what's wrong or what to be prepared for. Became a fan of yours this year, as I started to get back slowly back into Gunpla. Thanks for all your wisdom!
lmao the mg astray blue frame d is one of my favorite kits. it looks absolutely sick fully kitted out and mg astrays are fun builds. also its held its current pose for well over a year without losing parts or sagging at all
recently i just starting gunpla again, and always buy a RG because of the space issue, and then i try to buy a MG, which is Barbatos, after complete the build, it's awesome and make me want to try another few MG which had released few years before (Justice and Duel), but not feel as awe like this barbatos. But i think i will try your 2nd fav Freedom 2.0.
So happy to see my favorite somewhere on the list, I love the ZZ

2. Gp01
3. Alex 2.0 (wrists are a hastle to deal with, yellow circle can easily fall off if not cemented, armor parts have week connection point that can easily break
4. Hi Nu ver ka (head part cannot hold funnel rack, and falls of easily, funnel waterslides come off easily if so)
5. banshee ver ka (pointless release and has same issues as regular unicorn, (shield clip, difficult transformation)
I bought the MG Barbatos without even seeing the show as it looked so cool, after building it, I went and binged both seasons of IBO in a week and damn it is a great show. Tekkadan forever!
I cant imagine there being anything else being higher on the "deserves a PG" list than the Barbatos or Nu(though there is that godlike metal build 1/60), EZ-8, AGE-1 and ZZ hopefully get PGs in the future.
Man, I really want the MG Lupus and Lupus Rex something fierce. Surprised the Ver Ka Wing Zero and Dynames didn't make it on the list.
Actually ordering freedom 2.0 tonight. Where can I get the aftermarket hip joints? I'm not finding them.
barbiiiiiieeee... couldn't agree more. build the kit to the inner frame, leave the armor and pose it until you get bored and want to build another kit another month or so. after you get bored couple of month later, either disassembly the armor to paint the inner frame or go with the expansion pack. build the 1st form, wait until bored, change it to 2nd form, wait and repeat until MG barbatos lupus come.
The MG Barby is a really cool kit. I just hate the way the shoulder armor connects onto the kit. I haven't been able to remove the shoulder armor without stressing the stupid C shaped clips and after the hooks get stressed the shoulder armor will go back in but won't do anything aside from flopping onto the arm.
i love your choice for gold i have it to but the hip joint broke so look out
