Taiwan-China tensions: Taipei looking to break with the past

- China’s military has wrapped up two days of military drills around Taiwan.
The manoeuvres are meant to signal a warning to the island’s new government, not to pursue independence.
Beijing regards Taiwan as a renegade province, vowing to return it to its control one day, by force if necessary.
And this latest spat once again highlights of how many in Taiwan are moving away from the mainland.
Al Jazeera’s Rob McBride reports from Taipei, Taiwan.

"He brought chinese to Taipei " 😅
No, Chinese are always in Taipei and all over Taiwan. Han Chinese have always taken more than 90% of the population of Taiwan. Chiang moved the Chinese central government to Taipei. That's the right way to put it.
@@igoldenage BRAVO !!!!!!
the title is juridically wrong, Taiwan is a province of China, according to both de constitution of RoC(in Taiwan) and PRC (mainland), as well as UN resolutions! Opposite Taiwan to China is as wrong as to oppodite Cairo to Egypt, or London to UK...
Nonsense. Taiwan has been an independent country for over 70 years. 🇺🇸
@@MM-mo2yc It is a Chinese island with a US operated puppet government.

bro you deliberately missed the point of this entire video
@@MM-mo2yc Oh really? As a "Taiwanese" myself I must ask since this is news to me. On what date did "Taiwan" declare independence from the Republic of "China" ? 🤣🤣🤣
Taiwan can have one country, two system rule, just like Hong Kong. China is promising Taiwan to keep its Democracy. China kept its promise to Hong Kong. So you can trust China.(sarcasm)
Latest UN statement: Taiwan is a province of China.
The UN spokesman said the above today when he was asked by journalists about the true meaning of the 1971 UN resolution and the UN's stance on the status of Taiwan.

Warning: In the "Potsdam Declaration" which proved Japan's surrender in World War II, it first required Japan to return Taiwan Province to China! Denying the historical facts of the "Potsdam Declaration" is tantamount to denying that Japan signed the World War II surrender document based on the "Potsdam Declaration" on a U.S. warship.
Every Secretary-General of the United Nations has emphasized that the United Nations follows the 1971 General Assembly Resolution 2758 and the "One China" policy, and recognizes the representatives of the government of the People's Republic of China as the only legal representatives of China in the United Nations.
Someones are so ignorant that you don’t even understand what “sovereignty” and “governance” are in terms of legal definitions!
"Sovereignty" and "governance" are different. Taking Ryukyu (Okinawa) as an example, Japan has administrative "governance" over Ryukyu, but Ryukyu has its own territorial "sovereignty", and Ryukyu's territory does not belong to Japan. If Japan claims territorial "sovereignty" over Ryukyu, it would be an illegal invasion of Ryukyu.
The People's Republic of China (PRC) has legally inherited the territorial "sovereignty" of all Chinese territories, including Taiwan Province of China, and China's rebel government temporarily has administrative "governance" over Taiwan Province of China. If China's rebel government claims that the territorial "sovereignty" of Taiwan Province of China does not belong to the People's Republic of China and claims to own it, such words and deeds constitute splitting China and invading China, which is equivalent to declaring that China has entered a state of civil war. Against this background, any country that supports China's rebellious government is illegal and will inevitably become the sworn enemy of the 1.4 billion citizens of the People's Republic of China.
Exactly. Lai shall not looking to break with Tsai's previous plan to import 100,000 Indian workers to clean up toilets in government buildings.
Just announce recognized independence already

Spooky Qatari report😂, what difference of cnn, bbc
only difference is that Al Jazeera is state run propaganda for Qatar.
Qatari government are hypocrites. The want international law in Gaza but not Taiwan. US stooges.
The fate of Taiwan must be determined by its people, not by Chinese Communist Party.
So tomorrow if the state of Florida or Hawaii wants independence, the US should grant them independence just because the people living there want it ? If that was the case, then every small region or state in every country can just declare their own independence. That's not how it works. On one side, it can be understood that Taiwanese had a complete different political practice, lifestyle, laws and progressed differently from China but on the other side China should not give up on Taiwan as it is a strategic location in the region of east Asia and Taiwan is leaning towards becoming the lapdog of the US, hence increase the military presence of the US in the region. The most important thing is that Taiwanese people are descendent of mainland China, thus the same people. War and killing your own people as well as having the hypocrites like the US defending you instead of your own people who are superpowers is so wrong
ROC includes mainland as stated in their own constitution. Do mainland people get to vote on that then? Besides, most of them are not affiliated with the Communist Party.
Then why not claim independent? lol
Don’t worry America love you.
