No kidding. I did unlock one that increases damage and stuff when standing still, which is more like what I was talking about, but still not too exciting.
Something id like to note, the Devs did explain alot of the concerns you adress such as Multiplayer on the most recent Q&A Live Stream. This game LITERALLY Just came into Early Acess, and they promised that ALOT of things are coming soon.
As someone whose first survivorlike is this game, I honestly have never noticed those issues, but yeah. The game _would_ be way more fun with more impactful upgrades.
Everybody reccommends vampire survivors but imo that game looks worse than a pile of shit, so if you're looking to try any other ones I'd suggest 20 minutes til dawn. Just as long as you don't suffer from photosensitive epilepsy, lmao.
Another Survivor-like that tries to overwhelm you I can recommend is Halls of Torment. Every class also has a main attack you can toggle to auto-fire or you can aim manually which makes the game flow much better.
@@omnipresentsnowflake4698 nah, graphics are important. If the thing I'm looking at for ages looks bad then it's obviously going to impact how much I like the game.
Very valid criticisms! Right now it feels early access, which I’m okay with as I think the timeline from announcement to EA release makes sense for the amount of content in the game. I think it’s a great place to jump off from and hopefully in future they’ll explore and be more bold with the choices they make. It feels like right now they’ve laid the foundations for a good game, and wanted to follow the DRG fashion in keeping people very informed on the development cycle, by literally letting them play it every step of the way. I’d love to see a Bosco upgrade tree, unique class abilities(like the shield gen and grapple) some new glyphids that actually do something interesting. Like imagine a warden in a big swarm, or a menace that pops up and sprays you down, there’s so much potential(imagine a stingtail i mean holy hell). I’m excited to see where it goes, and I like the foundation they’ve laid
I think this game is so fun despite it's flaws, I think being in early access guarantees its only going to get better thanks to criticism like this video.
tbh i love how bugs outnumbers you constantly without any break, for me it gives a one man army vibe and adds a lot to the "work under pressure" vibe, you better know how to kite and dodge them if you want to do any objectives
There was a dev stream where they were talking about the things they wanna add, one of them being more stuff for Bosco, perhaps even a build based around him. The developers stream regularly over on Ghost Ship Games, the stream called "Hide and Seek" they touch on it more later on.
I've been loving this game to be honest, after a few unlocks I've really understood the way they want you to play which is a little different from vampire Survivors. It can only get better from here though, I agree it has a lot of potential
Kinda strange this game doesn't have co-op considering Vampire Survivors has co-op. Hopefully when the game fully releases out of early access things will look better for it.
Solid review Skelly, I was similarly unenthused from the demo a few months ago. Hopefully after some feedback the devs can iterate and do the IP proud.
I downloaded Holocure as I saw it was free and had good reviews but that game is significantly better then it should be. I don't know anything on Vtubers but that game is super addictive.
Back when this game was announced, i thought it would be an multiplayer topdown shooter, and a bunch of peaple thought the same thing. When the first gameplay footage released, we realised that it was just one more survivor autoshooter. The lack of multiplayer in this game is truely sad, it would be nice fucking around with one or two more dwarfs, like in the base game, well, i think i will just wait for rogue core, it sounds more fun.
A lot of great points here. Hopefully the devs listen, since they have the chance to make a truly great game in the rapidly-crowded survivor-like genre.
Survivor likes are just so hard to get excited for. It took 5 days for the genre to get as over-saturated as the souls-like genre did in like 5 years. Obviously I'm exaggerating but I think the problem is just how simple the formula is and how little significant improvements get made each time. Brotato was the only one that really wowed me with it's insistence on having lots of stats, items, and bonuses to work towards, although I did get bored with it eventually as well. Still, it was a step in the right direction and I don't feel like anyone is trying to do the same thing. I mean really, the only thing I'd ever want to see out of this genre that is left to be done is for a game to just, be like isaac, both in terms of having one attack that gets mutated over a run, and having a gargantuan item pool. I think having item rewards over the classic slot machine pick 1 of 3 every time you level up could go a long, long, loooong way of getting me interested again, but it is what it is.
I liked vampire survivors because it was vampire survivors and not because it was a "survivors-like". The most interesting thing about it was that it didnt really have a genre. It was just some dumb fun with a dev that added whatever the hell he wanted without trying to stick to any formula. Making dozens of other games exactly like that completely misses the point
@@Snaps12345 Well, to be fair, iterating on games you like is a lot of game development. The problem here is that I think a lot of people just chose this formula to copy because it was for practice or for money, which isn't a bad thing, but I just imagine that there'd be more games to push this genre by the limit by now, seeing as there's not really that much to do with it. Still, it stinks a bit seeing so much of the same thing so fast, even if I understand and am fine with why.
@@mistermamamia People who really like games and want to appreciate what past games have done take the things they appreciate specifically and do something new with them. A lot of games that are inspired by other games are usually inspired by multiple games and you can tell. There is a difference between "I want to add this because it was really cool in that game I like/my childhood game and you can do so much more with it" and "I want to make a game from genre XY, here is all the arbitrary criteria so my game counts as a XY game, I will add all of these things". Of course, sometimes you just want more of something that you liked and not every game has to innovate, but you dont have to religiously copy every single aspect of that game just so you can group them together. Just try to make a fun game
Remember, it's early access, item/artifact/gun can change whenever. So take every reviews atm with a huge grain of salt. The bosco upgrade you mentioned for example, is in the roadmap, in fact it's the next thing they're doing, take a look.
If the chance to join the exclusive "Skelly Sang About This Game" club don't convince the devs to improve the game, nothing will. Here's hoping the final product turns out more to your liking!
Not multiplayer and you dont even aim most of the attacks you use. Utter trash. Ghost ship on that nut pack. Should've focused entirely on rogue core and a bit more occasional content for classic DRG
Actually completely baffling that this doesn't have multiplayer, lol. DRG is pretty good, although I found it very samey after about 150 hours because I don't care about unlocks or leveling up in games that aren't RPGs. Pretty fun to play with friends a few weeks a year. Never thought this looked that great, though.
i agree with most of your points! The game definitely has a rough start and a lot of the upgrades do feel pretty flat except for a few legendary upgrades and such. Though i somewhat disagree with your problems with how many bugs spawn. it makes the horde feel like a decent challenge, and if you manage yourself right you don't have to clear them. the final boss, while definitely hard hitting isn't super difficult. The final boss feels like a movement speed test, not saying it shouldn't be changed at all. good vid!
Great video I personally think it's really fun but yeah I need more weapon damage and it needs to be more of its own thing than the main game other than tons of new weapons
Great coverage, and precisely what I wanted to know, thanks! Here's a dwarf joke for you: Which class is the most fun? I don't know, but it can't be driller, he's boring, just count the tunnels! Don't give up, Skeleton!
I know I'm a tad late to the party but on the topic of good survivors games, have you ever tried 20 Minutes Till Dawn? Personally I think it's the high point of the survivor's genre, with the amount of different characters with their quirks, different gun combos to go with them, and perk trees the game has. Especially the perk trees, I feel like no other game in the genre comes even close to the satisfaction the perk combos in 20 MTD has. You should totally try it out!
Glad i'm not the only one who thinks they played too safe with this game. Time to wait and see if the game gets more interesting when it gets out of early access. Also they need to remove meta upgrades and add some cosmetics like recolors for the dwarfs. Its not fun to spend 3000 credits and 50 enor pearls for 1% movement speed buff. At least make them less grindy.
I understand why roguelites do the "force you to fail your first run/make it extremely difficult" thing, but it's getting tiring. DRG survivors felt like I was doing the exact same things, bashing myself against the wall to get resources for meta upgrades to progress a little further. Also weapons like the m1000 suffer massively from only firing in one direction. Oftentimes it will fire at a single grunt instead of the horde behind me.
Honestly i really liked the game, but i am aware there are some big flaws. Like you said i wish there was more depth with each class because most of them share the same weapons across the board, and i think it's criminal that there are only 3 biomes, whose only changes are more obstacles
Yeah as much as I love drg, drg survivor doesn't interest me at all. Honestly helldivers is the closest to drg right now it just sacrifices the fully destructible terrain and resource management for much faster and bloodthirsty foes
So many great points. I think the thing that annoys me the most is them deciding to keep it way too simple with the targeting mechanics. Every weapon has some fixed priority. It's so annoying having to run away from enemies, turn around and run back at them to make your movement facing weapons do anything. So many times a bug gets close and your weapon is targeting something irrelevant. They really need to either make them all target smartly, and/or controllable, and/or configurable. You can currently configure some by wasting an overclock, which is even more boring and uninspired than the artifacts. I also have no clue why they even bothered putting bosco in. I'm pretty confident they'll iterate and I'm hopeful they will fix the targeting and add meaningful artifacts.
this game was a soulstone survivors clone from the start; the mining mechanic was failed promise and they hadn't even acted on what they claimed to learn from the initial test. It doesn't even represent the IP it piggybacks on well...
I think for a early access & nearly $10 game, It does the job, but I do agree that it could be way more than what it currently is Biggest gripe being the difficulty being on par with like a Mega Man game or some shit like that, a survivor game has no right being that brutal on the EASIEST difficulty- outright unfair at times And also Bosco being even more useless compared to the other title- It's annoying seeing Bosco be the most useless asshole ever Do hope it gets some love in the future
I can't say i was ever a fan of this game or the concept. I think the branding really carries it, being a deep rock game but also being painfully mediocre. I don't care much for these genres in the first place but i'm just kinda...disappointed? That this game has the deep rock monker onto it despite it being so mundane.

Remember what they said?
"A dwarf is a lone miner, but even a lone miner can use a hand" - uncle Karl
you know the game needs improvements when the best artifact in the game is a fucking sandwich unlocked like 5 hours in
