I am shocked to hear that this game was just released last week. I've been watching the cutscenes and I assumed this game was released about ten years ago, and I just hadn't heard about it. The thing is, I LIKE the cutscenes. I like them a whole lot. I grew up reading the FASA Battletech campaign modules in the same way that people read books and comics, and it is fantastic to finally see the stories and events that formed the basis of my childhood imaginings being brought to life on the screen. Seeing the pilot ramming the command bridge and killing Leo Showers was thrilling- I was THE major event tha stuck out in my mind from more than a quarter of a century ago. And they did it full justice. I wonder if we'll get to see Cranston Snord at some point.
I wish we would also get some of the other battletech games on consoles . Although I am happy we at least got this and mercs I really would love to play some of the other games as well . More battletech period is awesome ! 👍
@@shadewolf0075 I saw someone link to an interview with Russ from PGI that said you can't see every mission in one playthrough so I wonder if there will be a diverging storyline at some point? I'm pretty far into the game (about to unlock the final mech, the Dire Wolf) and so far I have not been forced to make any choices.
I wanted to be happy this got released. I'm not. MW5 Mercs, for all of its same-ness, came alive with mods that allowed users to play with their toys, fight enemies with interesting combinations of weapons and parts, and make their own fun. If it wasn't for the criminal lack of variety in the missions (which was somewhat fixable with mods), locations (fixable with a mod) and a bunch of performance issues (largely fixed with a mod), Mercs would have been pretty good. If Clans was Mercs, but with the RTS-style controls and a coherent meta-game that allowed the player to be the tip of the spear and actually help conquer worlds, rather than a series of scripted events, it would have been a brilliant extension of Mercs. If Piranha had been really, really smart, they'd have made it so that most of the mods from Mercs were backwards-compatible. This steps into the totally-wrong direction. When I saw the first reviews for this, I was kind of like, "whaaaaaat". There are so many things that are obviously, obviously wrong. They learned nothing and doubled down on a terrible game design nobody will like. I predict it never rises above Mixed on Steam and sells poorly.
As someone just wanting to play another MW2 type game I disagree. I had to pass on MW5: Mercs due to the timeline (I will not pilot an IS mech under any circumstance). This game has some strange flaws (and some bugs that I have found) but their commitment to the source material is great even if they managed to mess up the motion capture and make everyone have massively oversized mouths and heads. In classic PGI fashion this game is also extremely, extremely poorly optimized. This game should not tax my PC at all even in 4k but some of the particle effects brick my FPS very reminiscent of when they started adding new maps with new effects to MWO. The in mission gameplay is so fun and it can only get better from here with more missions and mechs via DLCs. I love how they balanced heat in this game, the Adder and Warhawk are the fearsome beasts they have not been in some previous releases. It felt so good in the early game to go into battle with a star of 5 x Adders and just totally shred the IS light mechs with Clan ERPPCs. After I unlocked the Warhawk another huge powerspike where mechs just disappear the second they become targetable, I just do not want it to end! I fear I only have a few missions left, being maybe 2 away from unlocking the Dire Wolf.
I personally disagree. Im loving the scripted direction, always got bored of how aimless MW5 felt, even with mods. And since im using a TM HOTAS X, normal difficulty with joystick and rudder feels just right. I come out of each mission battered but victorious. I hope it sells well, because if it doesn't then I dont see PG making another Mech game.
We planned our co-op campaign for first thing on the game's actual release, so we're not quite there yet, but it uses the host's save as far as we can tell.
Ui is horrible (takes forever to scroll to find stuff, mechlab is frustrating.. took me 2 hours to figure out right click removes items.. you earn mech xp, for mechs you dont want to keep.. piolet skills are very specific to mechs you dont have, and cant make becsuse of mech xp unlocks. Why is full throttle all the time the default mode? And does anyone else changed keyboard commands reset??
Yeah, I hate it. Not what I was looking for from a mechwarrior game at all. Even mechwarrior 2 let you customize your mechs load outs beyond the static pods and the experience unlock system feels tacked on and lazy. I would have much preferred to be in actual control of my lance finances, repairs and load outs. As it is, this is just stompy robot CoD.
In MechWarrior 5 (not clans), Melee was not behind a DLC paywall - it was released for free for the base game alongside the paid DLC.
32 subscribers, somehow has early game code, delivers one of the best reviews on the net about the game. Great review, dude.

After Starfield set the bar for bad facial animations, I expect these will look great.
Mass effect andromeda, before the patches.
Let's up the 1080p quality of videos please :)
How long is the campaign?
Took me about 20-25 hours. Maybe around 30 if you do both branches.
Is there any end game? What happens after the campaign is complete?
Space at&t ask you to pay your phone bill
@@TheKianykinHaha.
"Pay your bills, Fucko"
Considering the game is a traditional linear campaign their is no “endgame” once you finish the final mission you just replay the game

@@christopherjohnson2171 maybe you unlock a second campaign where you are playing as wolf’s dragoons?

@@culture_combine dang, that's disappointing to hear
What about acquiring IS mechs? Any you can use from the previous game, or are you limited to unlocking only Clan tech?
@@user-PyR064 Clan mechs only. This game is all about shitting on the vastly inferior IS mechs with Clan tech.
