@@kuronyra1709 I'm aware of why they did it, but there are still better ways to do all that. The simplest one I thought of is to simply delay triggering the cutscene until either the TBR or the player has taken fight-ending damage. While not _that_ much better than a straight cutscene, this could be greatly improved in a variety of ways with some additional work, such as: -Rewarding players for the win by unlocking achievements, cosmetics, etc. -Trigger a different cutscene that shows the TBR making a miraculous comeback if the player wins. -Disguising the "cheat" by giving the TBR aim and/or stat buffs that ramp up as the player does damage.
@irrelevantfish1978 one of the worst feelings in games is winning but having it taken away by a cutscene, I would rather the cutscene before instead of what you suggested by miles.

@@MarvinWestmaas ? I've watched about half of it. I think I'm interested in getting it, I was just wondering why this person would only be watching this game being played once.
Noticed a lot of people didn't start until the actual release. Reviewers of course pre played, but most content creators wanted to go in with the rest it seems.
Kind of a criticism, but the scale seems off in the environment. The mechs feel mansized, not mech sized. If you look at some of the plants, it's ground flora but it looks normal sized despite being in a presumably ~45ft tall mech. Look at the grass at 37:31 and elsewhere. The grass would be much smaller at that height. A minor nitpick, but nothing in the game seems built for humans. It would have done a lot for the presentation to have seen some regular sized staircases and walkways, doors, etc., to give you the impression that you're in a huge 70 ton mech. Compare that to the cutscene at 5:57, where the sense of scale is well produced.
The Mad Cat reveal and subsequent cutscene defeat really could have been played up for more hype. That was kind of flat. I'd have preferred it be a massively unfair fight. ECM, ferro fibrous materials, AMS, maximum laser reflective armor, PPCs. Perfect counter to a fire-and-fade laser/missile boat.
I can see why they didn’t. I saw that thing punch its way out of the hanger and I literally said whelp I’m glad this is a cutscene, getting stomped flat isn’t really fun and it doesn’t really teach anything.
Would have been nice, if they put a pilot there that we can learn to hate and have a rival inside our clan. Maybe even the new pilot we get for the killed stravag.
@@lolroflroflcakes I'm not typically a fan of unwinnable boss fights, but at this point you've already won and the rest is a victory lap. It'd really pay homage to the most iconic mech in battletech; The game's already fanboy bait, so may as well sell it all the way. There's also the possibility that you win, and maybe get a minor variation to a future cutscene. That's a more difficult call though, because I'm not sure if this particular mad cat pilot comes up again.
The one thing that gets me a bit, and only because they took so much care with detail in other areas, is that there is no artificial gravity in Battletech. So unless all of the cutscenes and between mission stuff happens at 1G of acceleration, everyone should be floating or at least obviously using magnetic boots. It's a very minor quibble, but when a game is built upon the narrative and being absolutely faithful to the source material, things like this stand out.

They don't have the talent to do the property right so the grass looks insanely big. It's sad.
Is it a purchaseable product right now? It depends: - are you a fan of the BattleTech universe and want to support the developers which attempt to bring it to life? Yes. - have you tried it on GamePass, runs on your PC just fine and like MechWarrior as a series? Yes. Anything else is sadly a No until it gets to run better more globally. But do download it if you have GamePass just to boost the player numbers and show PGI that it's worth to continue development. My impressions in the same time frame: - Unoptimized? Yes. i7 6600K, 32gb ram and RTX 2070 will run it at low but frame drops are common and really jarring for me, so much so that I have to... play it on the Series X. - Having it on the game pass makes it easy to switch and good on them for having it day 1 there! Gives game pass owners a chance to try it out and maybe add them to the series. - Could use a bit more polishing but the basics work just fine and I generally don't pay attention to details when a Warhammer shoots me in the face. - I know my lore and I love it so far, but I do wish they'd have a better lore primer before you get into the game. Just as an example, how is someone who never played it suppose to know that ship is a ComStar DropShip and the real reason of it being near Huntress was due to a bad misjump? - I do actually like how awkward the VA is for the cadets, they're fresh warriors, not speakers and I see them as such. Always fighting to survive doesn't really leave you time to learn social skills. ilKhan Leo rocks. - Mods are always an option to expand on it. The basis is good enough, like MW5: Mercenaries, modders can also expand on it fully. And if not, well they might take stuff from here and mod it into Mercenaries, still a win in my book.
@@thegreatwandering well I spent like 3k on my system. I’m running right at 120 fps in this game on max and I might drop a frame here or there but nothing jumps out. If I did it again I think I would have built around a 4090 but that’s more like a 4500 dollar system.

One thing that stood out, that I really liked the small detail of, was when Showers made his claim about "the children of Kerensky" and the camera panned away, it looked to the statue of Nikolai, not Alexander Kerensky. The clans carried out the vision of a mad man, instead of that of his father. All because of Nikolai's insane propaganda and manipulation of his father's words. Alexander would abhor what The Exodus became. That was a chef's kiss detail.
6:59 If you notice, even with the effects of lostech, the computers on the mech are programmed to "know” that they need to be told about the weather, temperature, wind speed, solar flux, night cycle (if any), shadows, temperature changes depending on moons and orbital parameters, terrain interaction with weather, barometric pressure, and gravitational value. All these factors are important when deploying the mech -- for things like the best way to set up its balance, the cooling systems, stride length and stride angle, power allocation, artificial muscle movement force settings, the best stnce to deal with any wind shear that might knock the mech over, gunnery calculations, and other such things. It indicates that it is ready for the necessary information about the battlefield environment to be uploaded, but it indicates that the information has not yet been provided. It is interesting that the displays include such detail.
The opening cinematic with one of the characters looking up at the mech, really drives home how terrifying it would be for a person on foot to see one charging through and demolishing things as it goes. One stomp and that is it for you, more so being close to one firing weapons. More than intimidating, it would make you feel like a bug.
Hell not even a stomp. You have a walmart thats stomping around and just uses any number of building destroying weapons to erase you from the census and everything close to you.
Is the research option really necessary? Clan tech is better tech. I know it's nit-picking, but surely your research is done on your homeworld over a period of time and not in the field.
It feels like a good game. My only real complaints are the fact that they overcorrected on issues that Mercs had. We said "The sandbox is great, but there's not enough content, and the story feels non-existent." They heard "we don't want the sandbox at all, just pure story please." That's disappointing, but predictable. What I didn't predict was my Summoner moving with all the grace and agility of a Highlander with a busted foot actuator. The change in speed from MWO and Mercs is pretty intense. I give the game a solid 7.5. It could have been better, but it's well worth the asking price.
It's pretty logical so MW5C is pure story based. Just like MW4 for example, firstly came out story based game, then comes mercenaries with more free play. So PGI keep that tradition, maybe...
MW has two strains: The "main game" which is rigidly story driven, and the Mercs game which is sandbox. This game is a "main game" from the first strain, so it was never going to be a sandbox. It's just that in the 5th generation they released the Mercs game first.
I am enjoying things so far. But there is a glaring issue playing on consoles. To fire weapon group 3: rb +rt. Group 4: rb + lt, or that's 5....Anyway the point is it's very difficult to handle over 3 weapon groups and still maneuver. Hopefully this cab be updated to what they used on mercs.
40:12 "I can't believe we all made it." "Hey... Where's Nasir?" "Particle cannon to the cockpit. No time to eject." Lady needs to check the meaning of "all"
I honestly would have preferred a expansion to Mercenaries instead of this stand alone experience. What are we going to do with ourselves when we are done the campaign? How do I keep taking contracts with all the gear I get after the campaign?
This isn't a merc troupe, this is a clan star during the invasion of the clan. It makes sense to have this be a stand-alone game considering the story itself.

This is the main reason I also decided not to buy. I will watch a LETS PLAY of the 25 hours of content and then play MODDED in clabn mechs in MW5 Mercs.
For those that don't know, there are over 40 books written for the MechWarrior universe, and an author by the name of Stackpole was pretty much the lore-master. Much of the names, customs and more were established by these books. The centerpiece of the chronology of the MechWarrior universe revolves around the invasion of the Clans, who seriously outgunned the Inner Sphere. The Inner Sphere was broken up into nations, some democratic, some imperial, some autocratic, and they did not have a history of playing well with others. The Clan invasion changed all that. I always wanted a Mech Warrior movie, but this is the next best thing.
This game is absurdly unoptimized to the point where if you dont have a pc with a GPU that costs more than a ps5, you may not even be able to run the game. PGI basically released a beta.
I mean, if your video card doesn't cost more than a ps5 then why even play PC? When I build a rig it usually costs like 3-4 times than the current generation consoles...
@@Lyonatan The problem is that the sysreqs don't call for that kind of hardware. PGI *vastly* underestimates the hardware needs for the game, so you're ending up with people buying the game on hardware that *can't* run the game.
@@ASNS117Zero no, being able to run a game is one thing, doing it at 4k with 120 frames is another. If you don't have the money to shell out for a beefy rig, play on series x.
@@Gimpo925 ... Are you daft? Go, look at the sysreqs that PGI posted for the game. A remarkably high number of people who have rigs that meet, and in many cases exceed those specs can't run the game at anything higher than low in virtually all settings because of the performance issues. PGI is selling this game as needing a Ryzen 3600 and an Nvidia 2080 to play on high settings at 1080p. If you go into the game right now with a rig with those specs, and tried to run it on high at 1080, the game would make your PC redline because of a bunch of shoddy coding issues, in particular one related to the game's shaders. As soon as weapon effects started flying, your FPS drops to 5, and if you're unlucky, you'll CTD. The only people consistently running the game without issues are people who have hardware *two generations* ahead of PGI's recommended specs.
So far I'm impressed by how faithful to the books and lore the game seems to be, down to the clan language quirks, ranks and expressions. 2:41 "I haven't a clue what you're talking about." I'm sure they have a good reason for that, and it's wrong. Hey know what Mechwarrior fans love? Millennial banter.
To be fair, they don't pull from a population. They artificially create an entire batch of genetically modified kids from the DNA of two chosen Warrior caste members. It's rare anyone from the regular population, especially Freeborn, would be allowed to join the Warrior caste outside of the rare non-elemental infantry units.
It worked pretty well for the Spartans. Space Marines adapt a similar approach. Special Forces (including vehical-based units) training, while not intended to be lethal, can have fatalities and always has a massive washout rate. The problem is that you can't make a large army like this; skill and equipment wins battles while numbers win wars.
@@jacobdavis6916 To be fair, the Clans expect a large washout rate, and it feeds into their beliefs. ONI expected losses, but very much preferred as many SPARTANs to survive as possible as each was a monumental investment. And most of them died during the augmentations. Nah this is clearly a standalone title. In fact one of the things wrong with gaming today is the unwillingness of developers to reuse assets and consumers to criticize developers when they do, it’s one of the reasons budgets and development time are exploding. There are better ways to handle that than making it a cutscene.
@@irrelevantfish1978 Perhaps, but it still served as a great "reveal" for the Timber Wolf who's the de facto "Clan" mech.

@@kuronyra1709 I'm aware of why they did it, but there are still better ways to do all that. The simplest one I thought of is to simply delay triggering the cutscene until either the TBR or the player has taken fight-ending damage. While not _that_ much better than a straight cutscene, this could be greatly improved in a variety of ways with some additional work, such as:
-Rewarding players for the win by unlocking achievements, cosmetics, etc.

The only game where I felt the size and speed of mechs was MW3. Everything else looks like an FPS, sadly.

41:27 I just realized why the scene looked familiar. It's the scene from. Topgun(original) right after maverick buzzed the tower.

Is it a purchaseable product right now? It depends:
- are you a fan of the BattleTech universe and want to support the developers which attempt to bring it to life? Yes.
- have you tried it on GamePass, runs on your PC just fine and like MechWarrior as a series? Yes.
Anything else is sadly a No until it gets to run better more globally. But do download it if you have GamePass just to boost the player numbers and show PGI that it's worth to continue development.
My impressions in the same time frame:
- Unoptimized? Yes. i7 6600K, 32gb ram and RTX 2070 will run it at low but frame drops are common and really jarring for me, so much so that I have to... play it on the Series X.

I'm here but I don't wanna watch it xD First my own playtrough without spoilers! We will see us again some time in the future :D
Seems a smart touch to follow a Sibko from a House that hasn't already gotten a lot of attention.
Also "Londerholms Rejects" is a great star name.
I dunno. MW5 didn't have career mode until the first dlc too, I'd wait and see if they throw in a career "instant action with flavor" mode
Idk I hope they add an conquest mode or something like that. Doesn't have to be great detail.

All there is is new game + (play through the same story again with everything you got from first playthough) so that will probably be another 15 to 20 hours, so basically you can get 35 to 40 hours of content from this game before "there is nothing left to do other than play the same story over and over"
Not having a career mode, conquest mode, or anything like that basically takes a game that could have hundreds or even thousands of hours of potential game play, down to 30 - 40 hours.
Addendum: I forgot to say, The Smoke Jaguars were kinda the dicks among the clans, being excessively brutal in their conquests.
5:46 yeah I gotta agree, the geneticists really screwed up on this batch.
Did they cross a catfish and a frog?
Thank you for saying this
I've been waiting for this. woohoo! go Bara!
@@ASNS117Zero if it’s bad go buy a Xbox and play it there. I play on a pc that can handle modern games at high frame rates.
I've been looking forward to you getting your hands on this
Why do piranha hate the mechlab so much? Battletech games are about the customisation, but every game is more pared back.
Maybe an attempt at balance? Trying to keep people making absolutely silly builds that abuse the system and trivialise the challenge.
So far I'm impressed by how faithful to the books and lore the game seems to be, down to the clan language quirks, ranks and expressions. I can see it might sound utterly obnoxious to someone who isn't already a fan, though.
Definitely a buy for me, despite the jank, middling performance and audio issues.
I must say that even when I have complaints... this game is miles above the previous Piranha MWs.
I believe that Clans is made by Piranha
🎉Yay🎉 New Mech Content!
Irgendwie sind die Münder von denen allen zu groß, eh?
"Just going to get behind this Rifleman..."
I seem to remember a similar set of words from a certain infamous Valkyrie pilot... ;)
Yeah, I was expecting the Rifleman to go "Aw, you thought you'd gotten into my blind spot? Watch this!" and flip its arms
2:41 "I haven't a clue what you're talking about."
I'm sure they have a good reason for that, and it's wrong.
Hey know what Mechwarrior fans love? Millennial banter.
hes using a contraction, clanners arnt supposed to use contractions. its freebirthy
@@oldman747 That's exactly the point. The Kit Commander later chew him out about his complete lack of decorum.
@@NephyrisX i did not get that from the original comment made by the other guy
What part of clan contractions is millennial banter? New to battletech?
I’m not sure how that banter is related to millennials, people have been bantering for thousands of years.
Great vid my man!
Really demonstrates the absurd stupidity of the Clans' military structure lmfao. This is NOT a way to select for excellent warriors from a population.
As for Skill and Equipment not winning wars... that's not true. You need sustainability and logistics. Plenty examples of that IRL.
@@jacobdavis6916 Spartans actually had huge manpower problems, because the relatively small population of citizen got depleted and they had huge problem to replace any loses.
Game feels like a one and done, so I'm going to wait to pick it up. It is exciting to see PGI do such a terrific job with the storytelling. Hopefully this means we can get a mainline MW6 or MW5 major xpac that brings us into the clan invasion timeline that gives us the career mode along with a story to match. I'm loving what they did with Clans.
Smoke jaguar? The best? Heh
Let's Go!
It is sad that you can't fight the 3rd trial mech. Even if you lose to a better pilot and mech, you should still go down fighting.
Don't get me wrong, it's just the same thing as MechWarrior 5, nothing really new, this game could be an mw5 dlc.
it looks like several steps back from MW5 Mercs, honestly. If it were DLC, it'd be ideal since we'd have all the Merc features plus the bespoke Clan stuff.
Nah this is clearly a standalone title. In fact one of the things wrong with gaming today is the unwillingness of developers to reuse assets and consumers to criticize developers when they do, it’s one of the reasons budgets and development time are exploding.
Some of the best games ever have been titles that people today would say “could have been DLC” because they reused assets. Fallout New Vegas, GTA San Andreas, Zelda Majora’s Mask & Tears of the Kingdom
Is MW5 Mercs on UE3 or UE4? Because this is on UE5. I like that the control scheme if you use "classic" is identical to MWO, even though its been 9 years I still have those controls embedded in my mind. Man, I hate PGI so much 9 years ago due to their incompetence I can't believe I've given them money again but this is so much better than what they used to be and uses the one thing they got right---the mech models.
@@christopherjohnson2171mw5 mercs is on ue4
Very impressed by the Smoke Jaguar Sibko. Sounds like a acting class on Columbia University.
Bunch of good ideas, badly glued together.
Still vomitorium, while walking.
Weird faces doing weird expressions and the hair!
Story: We have Aidan Pryde at home.
PS. The trial is a joke.
I've put in an hour myself and I 100% disagree, I like the game it feels like MW5 except newer. It looks great and plays almost identical to 5. I just wish they included a career mode because thats where I would want to spend my time after I beat the game. I am concerned with post campaign. I've also been looking for my favorite, the atlas and havent found any. I hope they have some in the game.
@@Gimpo925 since when was there a clans atlas ? 🤔
@@Coercer2010 I don’t get that far into the lore it’s just my favorite mech
@@Gimpo925 fair enough, it just surprised me. So you are a Steiner Scout 😂in case you don't know it, it's kind of a meme that House Steiner uses 4 times 100t Atlas as a "scout lance" ... because ... they can
@@Coercer2010 actually I started with the card game in the 90s and have played most games, but spent a stupid amount of time in mw5 a couple thousand hours and was looking for my favorite gotos in this game as it really just looks like a cleaner mw5.
