Hi there Eddy and crew. I have been following your sawmill sinse for ever. And I love every min. Of sawing. Wow. This is Andries from SA. Olso 77 yrs. Old. Regards to all. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I am 71 yrs old and My Grand Pa Frank, and my Dad [Charles] always told me growing up, "A man is only as good as his word" Truthful the word of the day, and a good one. Love the videos Eddie and the word of the day as well... lot to be said of words like truthful. :) Catch ya on the next one. :)
Definitely also like this end of the mill, and the explanations you’re giving, but I have to admit the hearing that “ screaming jimmy’s governor opening up as the log hits the saw” , which is how I got to tune in to the bus motor, when surfing GM diesel sounds, many years ago, when you first started, as I’d spent many years, in the oilpatch, operating a twin 6-71 cementer, on a FWD 6 X 6 chassis, powered by a 4-71, hauling 52500 lbs, was yearly overload permit, from the DOT, filling logs when on highways only, fantastic memories to watch all your You-Tube videos, from the original to now, with that well engineered mill, being that my family was in sawmills and planers from 1912, steam powered, to 1965 with “twin-disc 6-71 “ units, keep it up.
Hi Eddie, Great video, saw some comments saying video was jerky and vibrating, some of that may have been you-tube, I watched and it was not jerky or vibrating. I have off boarded or swamping as some call it and it is fast pace and you are moving and watching out for Mark too! let alone grading on the go. The video is not much different than my officers body cams and let me tell you some of those are really fast moving. I believe you wood have to explain how you grade lumber after the mill was done cutting and you would be able to pull samples of different boards to show the process. Bus Motor Crew works together and are a great team. Stay safe Stay warm, And keep on making great videos. John in Toccoa GA.
Yep I believe it was TH-cam also. Watched it late in the evening it was fine. That log was good for the mill all FAS bad for explaining grading next video I’ll get a log that’s not so good and saw it. Thank you for watching
Eddie, another owesome video my friend , im proud of you, just hold it steady man much vibration or you just fast moving it I'm not sure, I told you before use the damn stick handle, I got like three off them I cam mail you one !!!
It was -12 when I got up this morning but 3 degrees now. I am glad that you were able to harvest some nice boards. I almost bought a cheap new sawmill so that I could harvest some trees that are too close to the Mom's garage. Mom died and so we are selling the house. The Eddie cam gets us some shots that we did not get before. Good to see you.
Hei Eddie Nice too see the diesel runding fine👍. Its -22 F in my part off Norway. I am not so good 5:42 in english. Sorry😀. Take care and have a good day.
Great vid. Eddie! Something to think about? Maybe you could voice over the video and explain the grading in more detail of how you came to the decision on grade for each? Or bud in over the video when one that requires a decision? The easy ones are the FAS but when it comes to the selects and commons? Cheers mate!
is grade determined only be visual appearance of the board? if internal stresses turn the board into a propeller right off the mill but it is a clear board is it the same grade as a nice straight piece of lumber?
It’s just chalk from the hardware store. Normally I use a crayon from the hardware store and mark it on the end it last long. Chalk made it easier for the video
First and second. Board off the log. FAS is the grading of this log which that’s the best grade. This was a beautiful log for the mill. Bad for telling about grades of logs it was all good. Next video I’ll try to find something less perfect 👍
Neat video, but I had to pause it a few times. The severe jerky movement was triggering my unfortunate malady.. motions sickness. Enjoyed seeing the grading, will be interesting seeing the next grading video, with the grading of lesser (big box store type ) 😅wood.
Hey Eddie, it would great to review the meaning of the marks that you put on the lumber. I know you have done it before but I’m old don’t remember stuff! LoL. Thanks for the video, Ed
Ed, have you taken a course in grading hardwood? If not, there should be a two week course in your neck of the woods. Viewers would be interested in knowing how it's done, by cuttings, etc.,, FAS, select, one common, and so on.
@@TheEddie1014 "Proof of action of not shown by words alone but by the actions and reactions. Judge me by what I do and not by what I might say or by what others might say about me". Hows this for the thought of the day?
I work at Townsend lumber in southern Ontario. And we make breeze dried sticks for air drying and kiln dried lumber it leaves no staining on your boards s You should into it if you are interested at all
Hey boss... I noticed that you, ZZ and your other worker have wonderful beards. What’s the deal with Mark? He needs to get with the team and add some real fur, not just fuzz! ;-) Just kidding, you are fortunate to have a great team. I noticed that you are a southpaw, obviously in your right mind. Wishing you and them another blessed week. Peace sir.
Awkward of the Day: I like the part where you look up at the cab and Mark is kicking back in his Lazy-Boy recliner Captains' chair sipping a hot tody or tossing popcorn kernels up into his mouth with one hand, and running the carriage with the other.
24 fps is a basic rate sufficient to provide fairly smooth illusion of motion. The jerky unwatchable shot I see in the first few seconds look like maybe 8 frames per second, so maybe something is off on your camera settings or a malfunction. (I don't do video, so that's all I can think of.)
Okay I’ve checked this out. It’s the quality of the video it takes longer to process. So I’ll have to wait a couple hours before I post it. All the jerking is gone by later last night. So sorry for the jerky video

It's always awesome to watch and remember what it was like at the mill.

I like watching from your wand of the saw blade.
Thank you for watching
is grade determined only be visual appearance of the board? if internal stresses turn the board into a propeller right off the mill but it is a clear board is it the same grade as a nice straight piece of lumber?
No both are considered not just visual. Thank you
Nice looking boards. Where do you get your white markers? Thanks for the video.
It’s just chalk from the hardware store. Normally I use a crayon from the hardware store and mark it on the end it last long. Chalk made it easier for the video
@@TheEddie1014 I been looking for white from Dixon, can't seem to find it. I enjoy your channel.
The work of an offbearer is not all glitz & glamour.
Nope none of the lumber business is. But I love it
awesome video!!!
Thanks!!
EDDY, WHERE DID YOU LEARN LUMBER GRADING? YOUR VIDEOS ADD A WHOLE NEW DIMENTION TO THE SAWMILL OPERATION. PLEASE KEEP IT UP.
Self taught for over 40 years. Thank you
What does FAS stand for??

Here's an idea, maybe between you Mark and ZZ you might make Pete a cane or walking stick to help with his recovery

Im thinking that was youtube its all good today.
Good evening Eddie. My words for today are Family Values and sincerity.
Excellent
Hey Eddie, it would great to review the meaning of the marks that you put on the lumber. I know you have done it before but I’m old don’t remember stuff! LoL. Thanks for the video, Ed
Will do
Eddie stays pretty busy on that end of sawing.
I do
Ed, have you taken a course in grading hardwood? If not, there should be a two week course in your neck of the woods. Viewers would be interested in knowing how it's done, by cuttings, etc.,, FAS, select, one common, and so on.
No 30 years of learning on the job. Thank you for watching
I hoping you were going to explain what you are looking for when grading lumber.
It’s hard to do when it’s all fas. Good log for the mill bad for explaining grading. Next time I’ll try to saw a lower grade log. Thank you
Eddie did you go to grading school and where was it?
No just 30 years in the lumber business. You learn an awful lot. Thanks
Love you guys❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much
How long did it take you to learn how to grade the wood?
Oh 30 some years
So you started at 16 right! John@@TheEddie1014

Hey, Eddie. Beautiful boards. There is lots of money on the floor. The truth will set you free.
Kenny
They are. Truth! Will set you free. Thanks
Hi Eddie, what are the letter represent you write on the cut boards?
First and seconds I believe what FAS stands for
To fall into this category it must be a minimum of 6 inches wide and 8 feet long is the minimum parameter’s to be FAS grade
Also it must be an inch and an eighth thick. 1 1/8
First and second. Board off the log. FAS is a top grade
What will you be a-sawing next? Or is it too cold?
not sure yet
He sure does keep you hopping .
Yep
Pretty stuff!

Snow tonight and temperatures are below freezing in Lancaster County
Same here. Can’t wait till spring
You know its a good log when Eddie can write FAS on practically every board!
Yep it was a very good log
You really have to hustle to keep up with Mark
I do. Thank you for watching

I take that as a compliment thank you
Hi, Eddie ! !
Totally irrelevant observation: Finally realized that youre left-handed ! Congratulations ?
HaHa yeah I am. Actually can use both hands almost equally. Thanks for watching
Howdy. Any word on Pete?
Great wood Eddie…. Thanks for showing us the grades…. Now go warm up….
Thank you for watching
What does FAS mean
First and second, board off the log. best grade is FAS
I understand FAS but not the other Ltters you use, I'm almost 80 like this stuff
1 is number one common. 2 is number two common, S is a select- it was clear but to skinny to make FAS. X low grade, thanks for watching
What does FAS MEAN
First and second boards off the log. Thanks
Excellent video.
