Mahogany grows in south Florida. It is Cuban mahogany which is considered the finest species of mahogany due to workability, appearance and termite resistant heartwood. Has what seems to be some silica in the wood so can dull gouges faster than some other woods. I have found many pieces laying in the street after tree trimming or tree being cut down. I turn it on a lathe. Tight grain, smells good, not too hard or soft a wood. Darkens beautifully with age. Just an oil finish. Working with It is similar to cherry. Leaves even look like cherry! What a complete death trap. I was a millwright in a sawmill for 10 years. Nothing like this. Apparently labor in this place is cheap and disposable.
I would have never turned it just keep cutting slabs until the end. Let the buyer decide how much to cut off
