  • John from www.okraw.com/ shares with you why he is no longer 100% raw vegan, and now eats some cooked foods to supplement his raw food diet to make it even healthier.
In this episode, you will learn the specific reasons why John decided after 26 years of eating a raw vegan diet to include small amounts of cooked plant foods to make his diet better to meet his health goals.
You will learn the 3 reasons he supplements his raw food diet with some specific cooked foods to increase his level of health. You will learn the healthiest plant foods you can cook and add to your diet.
You will discover the ONLY way John likes to heat process his food using an instant pot and does not eat out at restaurants, still does not eat processed foods, and does not canned foods, as well as not eating processed vegan junk food.
You will learn the specific reasons that John currently cooks and eats very few foods to better his diet that have been shown to have health benefits.
You will discover why he eats a nutritarian aka nutrient-dense diet that includes as many high nutrient foods that have the lowest level of calories.
After watching this episode, you will why John is now adding some cooked foods into his predominantly raw food vegan diet to better his health and microbiome.

John Please Dont eat Egg Plant. They are basically one of the only vegetables that are poisonous to humans. It's well understood in the ancient Indian Aruyvedic Medical System that Egg plant is absolutely poisonous and causes brain damage. It's been proven to contain a compound that causes brain damage over time, please stop consuming it immediately

@UCGoxOFZ13sw-nNA9f_WiB2g My personal opinion, based on science that eggplant can help protect your brain. see
      linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S0300483X0000202X
Findings of animal studies suggest that nasunin, an anthocyanin in eggplant skin, may help protect brain cell membranes from damage caused by free radicals. Nasunin also helps transport nutrients into cells and move waste out. Anthocyanins also help prevent neuroinflammation and facilitate blood flow to the brain. This could help prevent memory loss and other aspects of age-related mental decline. Lab experiments have indicated that nasunin may reduce the breakdown of fats in the brain, a process that can cause cell damage.

The beginning of the end of your raw-vegan diet. From here your health will only get worse, your brain will slowly shut down. You will try to add even more different supplements, add even more cooked vegan food. If you are in complete denial you will argue that your declining health has to do something with spiritual stuff. If you are lucky you will start eating meat again. Many ex-raw vegans actually eat raw meat, fat, liver and brain. See rawpaleodiet website. But I agree, animal products should be consumed raw. Also see Sv3rige videos and videos about herbivores and some plants eating animals. Hope you will get well and welcome to the tribe.

Paula Black had cancer and her Dr. gave her 6 months to live. She changed her diet to mostly fruits and vegetables, and juicing was a major component (sometimes she'd lightly steam her vegetables/oatmeal for breakfast). Plenty of water, quit her stressful job. After 15 months, she was totally cancer free, and she never opted for chemo/radiation. Her book is "Life, Cancer, and God".

I love how you say you "supplement" your raw diet with some cooked foods. I have the same philosophy. I tried to stay fully raw without beans for the longest time, but there was just too much research showing me how important beans are for nutrition. I don't like sprouted beans, so cooked beans it is. The idea of giving into the dogma of being fully raw is a type of disordered thinking, in my opinion. I still consider myself to be a raw vegan too, because like you, about 90% of my diet is raw. 100% health is a great way to describe it.

@@Bankai90 I'm 56 years vegan and I eat a far more varied diet than you I would bet anything! Being a chef I have made foods from all around the world. I love to try new things I know a lot about nutrition because I put myself through school just for nutrition along with my doctorates in regular medicine which teaches nothing about nutrition. Oddly enough not learning about it taught me a lot about it LOL if you think about it, regular doctors are pharmaceutical Distributors and that was very disturbing to me especially when they started offering the contracts out. I learned so much more about eating and eating well. Though I had been vacant since birth because of protein issues. Okay a plant-based baby but by 3 I knew what a dead cow was and I made sure that anybody eating one was knowing that their steak was an animal before it was on their plate and that it didn't want to die. That was not my parents idea I have no idea where it came from at all because back then I was the only one not eating animals or their secretions. But it certainly not restrictive in fact like I said I probably eat a bigger variety just because I can. People who eat dead animals get stuck in their little I have a dead chicken some vegetables and some starts on my plate

    • @Bankai90
      @Bankai90 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@gomezaddams6470 Well def not than me xd, but compared to the average american highly likely yes. That's why vegan diets can be healthy compared to eating processed trash. Obviously your foodvariety can be quite broad. I've done a vegan diet and even Esselstyns diet for awhile. I'm not against veganism so long someone understands micromanagement of nutrients. Any restrictive diet, vegan or carnivore, shouldn't be done by the average person for more than 10-15years who hasn't knowledge about what he's doing. There's a reason you will find like 30 videos about vegan deteoriation with tons of people in it, because it's not that easy as "restrict meat". A lot of those people look worse than life long crack addicts yet seem to eat whole foods. Yet people who live of pizza and crackers and get hammered 3x a week seem to do better. You won't find that with carnivore/keto people (I'M NOT SAYING IT'S HEALTHIER), since animalproducts literally have too many easy absorbable nutrients and will protect the brain and tissues.
The issue I have is with people like you, you say dead chicken or animal excretions as if it would be something bad. if I'd see myself lost in nature those would be my main goal to attain. I've also an issue with the severe misspresentation of vegan health by Greger or Barnard. Obviously eating the SAD diet is even worse, but it's mainly an issue created by sugar, vegetable oils, emulsifiers and trans fats.
If you don't want to eat animals as to protect/ not harm them, that's one thing. Focusing on optimal health is a different story. Trying to do both is appreciated. Most meat eaters know very well what they eat was alive, and most meat eaters would also likely opt for a better environment of those animals during their lifetime.

I am SOOOOO glad to see you doing this! It is confirmation for me. I have kept tabs with you since 2005 and you are one of the few I that I listen to. It's all about getting the best out of the plants we eat. We cannot eat all plants the way they are when we harvest them, and get the most nutrients out of them. Soaking, sprouting, lactofermenting, drying, freezing, infusing, ripening, heating, and cooling (like potatoes gain resistant starch when heated then cooled) each plant food is unique and we have to understand them individually. Kind of like humans. We are each unique and have different qualities that sometimes need to have certain processes externally put on us to bring out the best in us. I have TRULY enjoyed all the information you have thoughtfully shared over the years. A big THANKYOU from me. You have inspired and kept me motivated numerous times.

I feel amazing on raw when I'm getting adequate amounts of fruit calories. If I dont get at least 2000 cals a day from fruit alone I always end up wantting cooked food. Papaya and mango I have found to be crucial also. I find in the northern hemisphere I end up eating a meal of bananas, a meal of dates in a smoothie, and a meal of oranges beofre my big salad and have to have a little flax often to help keep my omega 3 and 6 ratios 1:1. Papaya has equal omega 3/6 ratio and is really high in vitamin c. Dates lack c and fat. I think trying to be all raw in northern hemisphere when we cant have access to affordable or high quality papaya and mango makes it difficult.

I've been following you Jon for a long time, since seeing a video with you and Markus Rothkranz about all the wild plants you grown in the own garden at home. I am a long term customer of Markus products, his green formula is amazing. Yeah you have to do what is best for your own health Jon. I used to be 90% raw few years ago, then started eating more cooked foods over the years. What works for someone does not always work for everyone else too.

Thanks for this video, I have a strong tendency for all or nothing kind of mentality, but then deep down I know it’s not good to be that way in many aspects of life. And when it comes to nutrition is very easy for me to fall off the wagon of healthy eating if I can’t be 100% perfectly raw. So this kind of videos are important to me to get my mind back to thinking more rationally about food and not be dogmatic. My goal as yours is improved health not a label... And I also agree with you on seeing the cooked plant foods as condiment o supplement, that way we’ll keep focusing on the raw plant foods.

This is very encouraging to me. Because I eat probably 80% raw but do you need potatoes a few times a week and beans now and then and it just feels right. I should try more variety like you said. One thing that kind of bothers me is how a lot of experienced raw food people criticize bananas. I’m going to stand up for the banana! Especially since it’s so hard to get ripe fruit. Bananas are very nutritious, easy to digest and inexpensive and all of that is so important to get people on the right track. So when you get into this way of eating and you still love a lot of bananas I don’t think that’s bad. As you said yourself it’s not good or bad it’s just what’s better than something else. I hope that made sense. Thank you for all you do. I’m considering that vacuum packed blender thing

hey jon, if including cooked veggies in your diet works better for you then for sure you should go for it. however, long term i do think you will come back (tho you did say you've been eating cooked foods for years so maybe not...) im a bit surprised to hear (from you in particular) all the usual starchy excuses/justifications people use like 'no evidence of long term cultures being raw' 'leukocytosis isn't a thing' 'raw is dogmatic' 'blue zone ate cooked'... but that naturally comes up when we try to justify lowering our standards. i've done a certain amount of this in my past also so i can't blame you but it's still disappointing. at the end of the day we must be honest with ourselves - cooking foods that we are designed to eat raw does not improve them or make them more nutritious for the human frugivore. sure, cooking certain plants that we are NOT designed to eat (like eggplants for instance) will obviously help make them less toxic and more edible but will also zap our vitality over time. they are also a 'gateway drug' if you know what i mean haha ;-)
it really seems you need more quality sweet fruits in your life so you feel satisfied on all raw. time to finally move to the tropics and get that fruit forest going! wishing you the best.

I'm vegan (I eat both cooked and raw) and had a borderline low WBC (3.6). My doctor made me get a retake, which I reluctantly did months later. Leading up to it, I ate processed vegan foods, and my WBC raised to 6.1!😳 I don't think it's a coincidence that eating inflammatory foods like vegan chips, cookies, ice cream, etc, raised my WBC.. but when I ate "clean", it drops. But because blood work parameters are for the average person (non-vegan), doctors think you have a problem. The rest of my blood work was fine, and I tried to explain that it's common for vegans to have a lower WBC (particularly if they focus on whole foods), but he didn't listen.🙄❤️

Nice to hear that you're doing this! I'm also a big fan of Dr. Joel Fuhrman btw, Gotta get those GBOMBS! I eat Nutritarian/WFPB, and as a future doc myself and huge nerd for nutritional biochemistry/Nutrigenomics/epigenetics, etc., I appreciate you talking about some of the science behind the phytonutrients/antioxidants, etc. (Anthocyanins are def one of my favorites!). One recommendation though, is after stating a fact that the science shows, stating "in my opinion" kind of weakens your credibility, esp for new viewers who don't already know that you know your stuff. As an avid researcher like you who tries to spread this information to as many as possible, I say things like "The research shows" rather than "In my opinion". It definitely helps for credibility and such! Anyway, just wanted to say that, hope you don't take it the wrong way!
Btw, if you're interested in doing an interview/conversation one of these days over zoom/google meet, etc., that would be really cool! We could talk about our stories, nerd out over nutritional science, talk about testimonies of people we've helped with this info, etc. I also think it'll help your viewers be more optimistic about the future of medicine/healthcare knowing that there are future Integrative/holistic/functional/lifestyle medicine docs like myself who know about the power of Nutrition/holistic/lifestyle optimizations for true healing! (I'm definitely grateful for the all star docs like Fuhrman of course!) Anyway, let me know when you get a chance! My email is bryante7751@gmail.com ! Take care and God bless!
