Part of what makes something a "little treat" (at least for me) is not having it very often. I really enjoy/appreciate these because it does not happen every day/week.
In regards to coffee: I used to stop and get a venti every single day. My now husband found out how much I spent and I think it nearly gave his young 20s heart an attack. That week we went out and got a Nespresso machine and frother. It has lasted me 6 years and is still going. It’s not as cost effective as regular coffee but we buy the Starbucks brand syrups so I still get my little treat but at home for a fraction of the cost. It also saved my sanity during COVID 😂
we've had a nespresso for years, tons of pods that are not nespresso, on amazon. the frother sux and we got a SMEG brand off amazon. a total game cjhanger. 4 years old and going strong
Rebuttal for George going after Rachel reading fiction. Studies show reading fiction is beneficial for mental health, EQ/social awareness as well as simply reading. “Reading can even relax your body by lowering your heart rate and easing the tension in your muscles. A 2009 study at the University of Sussex found that reading can reduce stress by up to 68%.” Much better than scrolling for over all health. Love the banter between you two.
Financial planning is like navigation. If you know where you are and where you want to go, navigation isn't such a great problem. It's when you don't know the two points that it's difficult
Very possible! especially at this moment. Profits can be made in many different ways, but such intricate transactions should only be handled by seasoned market professionals.
Rachel, on your next Amazon or Target jaunt, purchase a rice cooker. Wash the rice and hit the button. Fresh, steamed rice in about 20 minutes. Best part, you can walk away so you don't have to worry about getting distracted and forget to cancel your unneeded subscriptions.
I gotta say... This is THE show (all the Ramsey shows and George's show, any of them) that has been missing from my life. I've had the broke to baby steps *half* millionaire life. I struggled through all of these steps for a decade and didn't even know these shows and this type of encouragement existed. Whew, I tell everyone about these shows, but just wish I knew about all this in my thirties 😏
My little treat back when I was broke was a croissant from a nearby bakery on payday. That’s one every two weeks for about the cost of a Starbucks. Was it extra? Yeah, about $100 a year. But it made watching the rest of my paycheck go to bills and necessities less painful
There was a British reality show about 15 yrs ago. I think it was called the 1900s. It placed a single family of 5 or 6 people in a home from the early 1900s. They lived there for a few months at least. Breadwinners still worked outside the home at their job. I remember one family whose dad was in the military, so he had to wear the uniform of his rank from the 1900 time at work. The whole family wore the clothes. Gender rules were strong re: household chores. Period Bathing suits when at the community pool. No electronics, had wood stove, etc. I loved that show. I was definitely more grateful for what I had after watching each episode!
The country song is Just Another Day in Paradise by Phil Vassar. “Kids screaming, the phone ringing, dog barking at the mailman bringing that stack of bills overdue…” :)
Heck yeah, I hide treats in my house. I’ve got 5 kids. I try to sneak my own treats during their nap time, but we live in a camper, so any crinkle of a bag opening and I hear a voice go, “Mama, what’s that??”. But I’m a problem solver. So I play the audio Bible during nap time and they can’t hear what I’m doing anymore. Amen, hallelujah 😅
My grandmother had 6 kids and 2 step kids and she used to say that she would put her Hershey bar inside of a magazine and pour her Dr Pepper in a coffee mug because by the time each kid got one square of chocolate and one sip of I her DP, she was left with no soda and only 1 square of chocolate for herself!! So she would take her 'black coffee' and her magazine and go into the bathroom and lock the door to enjoy her treat 😆 🤣
Excellent show! Loved hearing what your spouses had to say regarding sweet treats and money leaks for you both. Shows just how real you guys are - which I didn't doubt. Just fun to hear what your family has to say. 🙂 The chemistry you guys have together is fun to watch, too. I learn something every time I watch this show. Please keep it going for a long time!
Nice! Spindrift is pretty much the only drink out there that is flavored with a little bit of juice. Other brands like La Croix have the ghost of a flavor or if they’re sweetened are too sweet or artificial 😖
Yes, my daughter and I hide our favorite chips in her closet because the husband and brother will eat them gone in short order 😅. Love family, but they are not to be trusted with treats 😅
Dr Squatch is AMAZING, it's the best soap. It doesn't leave any gross residue like all the chemical liquid soaps, which are way closer to laundry detergent than the soap our great grandparents used to use. Dr squatch is great for your skin and makes you feel so much cleaner.
Hey guys!❤ As a housekeeper, I approve George's Dr. Squatch bar soap! I made sure to let a client know (often) the Dr. S soap smelled good, was supposed to be good(ish) for him, and that it cut my SCRUBBING time from 1 hour (just to do his shower!!) to almost half that! He has unsealed tile walls (dark brown, so shows soap scum) and small , also brown, tile floors. So, LOTS of grout SCRUBBING to get all of the built up soap scum out. Ugghh 😢😢😢 I let him know I did the rest of the house entirely in the amount of time it took me to clean just his bathroom! (His wife and kids were not as high maintenance as he was 😂) anyhow, he stuck with it for a while then one day, the ol ' Dial and Ivory bars were baaaacck !!!😂 I think it was a Christmas present. And since we did exchange gifts, foe the years I was with them, I thought...hmmmm, maybe I need to gift him a big box of Dr. Squatch soap! 😂😂😂 I mean, it was also a gift for mw!🎉🎉

Re: soap. I like foam soap too! To save money, I make my own. You can use up your favorite gel soap; pump maybe 3-4 good squirts into a foam soap bottle and then add water. Shake the bottle and that’s it!

I don’t do little treats, but I’m guilty of big treats. I’ll cut back and save like crazy to stay in a castle hotel in Ireland instead of the average hotel, but I buy coffee, maybe, once a month. I’m debt free, except the mortgage, and travel overseas once every two years from Australia.
When you two where talking about " Group of a Society", crazy funny by the way. I was on vaction in the Philippines to vist my friend and we went to his wifes family home in the province. There I realized that I dont need alot to survive and be comfortable. I had limited cell service, showers outside, and no AC and slet pn a thin foam pad. It was so weird that made me happy. This go the show that, there are alot of things that we really dont need to make us happy.
Small treat solution...instead of buying books...head to the library! All the books you want for FREE and then no book clutter in your house!! Double treat!!
I love mudslides. They're my favorite cruise drink. I think they would be ready too make at home, because most of those ingredients are the kind people have at home on a semi regular basis. Some of them other cocktails, while cheaper, have included things most normal people wouldn't necessarily have on hand. Really really fun show today.
Im with George on Dr Squatch. That soap bar is the bomb. I work in a pvc manufacturing facility, and after a 12 hr shift it feels like im wearing it. Squatch gets that grunge off, my old go to was Irish Spring but it can't do the job nearly as well. I had to put Dr Squatch on hold tho as i put down my unsecured debt. 8 bux a bar vs 6 bux for 8 bars of Dial. Frugality over vanity.. until the last 6k has been put down.
Pizza delivery can get expensive fast. I ordered Pizza recently from Pizza Hut. A medium pizza, 2 sodas, a ‘cookie pie’, and breadsticks was almost $60 with delivery and tip.
First time watching and I loved this episode. I was just talking with my husband about money leaks. We are debt free and I’m currently pregnant with our 4th. When the cravings hit, they hit hard. When I did a month review in Feb… we had spent 108 in Starbucks Fraps. I’m normally not a Starbucks person. I haven’t been back since! We now make the drink at home. My 3 boys are young (6,4 and2) and I feel we are constantly getting treats like Sluprees at Wawa or eating a fast food meal while we are on outings. We homeschool and eat every meal homemade but once every two weeks the kids will ask for outside food as a treat -problem is as a family of 5 McDs will be a 50 dollar outing. I’ve started a treat budget to keep this in line. But yes money leak are for real and can be damaging. Good insight
Great episode. Very entertaining. I am pretty good at avoiding the small treats and budget leaks. Mostly because I live in a small town without many options. No cupcake shops or Starbucks here. :]
I used to treat myself with coffee drinks each time I went shopping. It does add up. So now I make an iced coffee from home and take it with me and store bought coffee is only occasional. Saves cash. And not to brag but we do the Every Dollar budget every month and keep track with app and if you are done with a category you are Done. Each month we manage to stay under or at budget. Sure it takes discipline, but keeping on budget now since 2015 we have much less stress! ❤
Parts of this were so funny, I'm in my mid thirties and I grew up hauling, chopping, stacking wood, caring for animals hauling grain, throwing hay etc, having a large garden we worked. Some people do still live like that today even lol
Love y'all! White Russian is one of my favorite drinks and it's almost like a mudslide. P.S. I just canceled Apple TV after finishing The Morning show and hubby wanted to watch The Beekeeper. I only subscribe streaming when there is something specific I want to watch.
I am proud to say I have never paid for cable TV or streaming services or any subscription for that matter my whole adult life. My mobile phone monthly bill has average about $8-$12 for the past 15 years. Wonder how much I've saved in the past 20 years.
agreed so much free content, i will never catch up. have you tried TUBI? HAD CONSUMER CELLULAR FOR YEARS. ALWAYS AROUND 30 A MONTH switched to tello. 9 a month, 11 after tax. love it.
Oh Rachel! Stop Subway! They are sloppy with cleanliness in their stores. I use to go to Subway fairly often. But I stopped completely the day I saw a cockaroach trotting across the area where they prepare sandwiches. I was so grossed out that I haven’t been back for years and years.
non intentional clothing shopping can make all your other budget disciple evaporate. months later, still with tags on, the sweater goes to good will for the tax write-off. magical thinking at it's finest.
Leaks are life and death for some families facing inflation and layoffs right now. Every bit helps. It really does! Those little treats can add up to 3 extra meals per week or a health insurance payment…
Even if we earn them. There is no such thing as “deserve”. This is real life. There is “can afford” as in “what do I need to sell, save, or shift in order to make space for this within the limits of our realistic budget?” I wanted subscriptions $7 or less… Dude - WTH is the Apple Charge?!? It’s like $5.49. But 4 times per month.
I will play the hell out of a game for 2-3 days then I realize it’s sucking my time and I delete it completely! Or when they want me to pay…that’s when it goes!
If George ever finds himself in Colorado Springs, he should go into the Rocky Mountain Soap Market. I have a little soap addiction as well and my little treat when I lived there was to get a Pikes Peak lemonade then go get soap.
When I think about buying a "simple pleasure" I think about how much time I have to work to pay for it or I think of a substitution that is much cheaper.
George I'm also OCD but my thing is I have to lint roll my bed every day and all my clothes when they come out of the washing machine...I don't like loose hair or fluff in the bed ....I feel you 😬
We stopped doing pizza delivery because it became outrageously expensive… we just keep a stack of inexpensive frozen pizzas in the fridge and add a fresh ingredient like chile or mushrooms and pop them in the oven. It is about 12-13 bucks for two pizzas that feed the entire family and literally take less time to throw in the oven than calling in an order… and less time to cut than answering the door
How a store that sells just Bundtlet cakes, survives is beyond me. That and something like Buff City Soap. The demand is that high for these items apparently!
Everytime the wife and I budget it comes down to "little treats" being in the way of starting the debt snowball. We started another budget talk, I'm leaving my debit card at home in my dresser except on the days I need gas and I am once again going to begin getting out of debt. I've been debt free twice and debt free but the house once. I can do it, I already have.
George! Let me recommend Duke Cannon for men's soaps! I think they are cheaper but still the great same quality. They also have hair products and beard products (and more!) and a portion of their proceeds goes to support Veterans!!!
Omg do an episode on forgotten bills and laziness to call to get that bill reduced or the fatigue related to make change to a cheaper service maybe sprinkle a bit of adhd in there lol
Get Dave and Sharon on, Together.
Dave's never been on this show.
Yes!
It would be a fun guest-takeover show idea.
YES!!!!
Sharon is a walking leak and the origin of daves simping
Great video. Im a huge Blcktken300 fan and love your videos on it.

The audible gasp I made when George said he washes his hands between washing his hair and his body in the shower. 😂😂😂
I do something similar. After a shower, I’ll wash my hands before I get out as if they’re going to be dirty after all that! 😂
I heard him say he washes his hands between shampooing and using hair conditioner. 🤷🏻♀️
OMG OCD y'all. It shows up differently in every one of us!!
I wash my hands first thing when I get in the shower so they’re clean before they clean everything else. 😅
@@LisaPFrampton Thank you, as someone who does the same. Also, some of us are allergic to regular soaps and have to buy specialty soaps.

I think i remember that show (or at least a show like that)!

You guys are so funny. Love it.
The country song is Just Another Day in Paradise by Phil Vassar. “Kids screaming, the phone ringing, dog barking at the mailman bringing that stack of bills overdue…” :)
25:23 "Survivor" was the perfect punchline. Thanks George for saying what I was thinking.
I look forward to this podcast every Thursday hehe
You two crack me up! I love your show, so entertaining and informative plus I love your honesty and sense of humor! Thank you!
It’s Phil Vassar!! Hahah “kids screaming, phone ringing, dogs barking at the mailman bringing that stacks of bills…overdue” such a good one haha
I think she's referring to Travis Tritt singing "it's a great day to be alive"...rice cooking in the microwave
See, I thought she was referring to Your Gonna Miss This by Trace Adkins, but Its a Great Day to Be Alive makes more sense.
I agree it's Another Day in Paradise...she mixed up the washing machine breaking with microwave...😂 that's gotta be it

Spindrift is usually cheaper per can on Amazon than in the grocery store So good job George!
but Costco, aldi and traders Joe's seltzer is cheaper to my knowledge, house brands help if you like them.
Nice! Spindrift is pretty much the only drink out there that is flavored with a little bit of juice. Other brands like La Croix have the ghost of a flavor or if they’re sweetened are too sweet or artificial 😖
Except when Costco has their sale on Spindrift.
I wish my husband was 1/2 as aware of cleanliness as George is! It’s the opposite end of the spectrum in my house and it makes me crazy!!!
I'm with George on the long and fast-charging cables. They're comfy cables :)
Isn’t the song Trace Adkins, You’re gonna miss this…

Library electronic resources are amazing. There are so many of them.
George, you make it hard not to judge you.
The TV show Alone is a more real survivalist version of that kind of TV show.

My sweet treat is getting a $2 donut (includes tax) about twice a month ($48/year). If they were only $1, I'd probably get one every week. BS7.
I will play the hell out of a game for 2-3 days then I realize it’s sucking my time and I delete it completely! Or when they want me to pay…that’s when it goes!
Panera is my lil Friday treat 😞
I love the phrase "life's couch cushion"! 😂
“Life is short. Get the guac.” Wrecked me😂
If George ever finds himself in Colorado Springs, he should go into the Rocky Mountain Soap Market.
Hey guys, great episode!! I keep meaning to ask, does every dollar work in the UK? Does it connect to UK banks at all?
I second the gel soap thing it has to be foaming lol
Nothing Bundt Cake is the GOAT!
How a store that sells just Bundtlet cakes, survives is beyond me. That and something like Buff City Soap.
The demand is that high for these items apparently!
When Rachel said My crackly hands - I busted out laughing 🤪
YES. Make that tv show! It’ll be the modern hiltons
First time watching. Omg this was so funny!!
Do it. Blcktken300 already in my bags. I had a Blcktken300 after ( your should I buy ) and I agreed and bought. I'm looking to stack more, too.
Omg do an episode on forgotten bills and laziness to call to get that bill reduced or the fatigue related to make change to a cheaper service maybe sprinkle a bit of adhd in there lol
This was so enjoyable 😂 thanks for the great laugh
Is it ironic that a Vrbo ad popped up when I clicked this video? A subtle, passive aggressive dig at Rachel perhaps? IYKYK. 😂
I love me some Dr. Squatch!
Every time Rachel says it’s closing time….. does anyone else think of the song??? By semisonic? Or just me?
George- me too! Foaming hand soap!!❤
