Saaammmme. Like once in a blue moon I will get 1 Starbucks drink but I make my coffee at home. As for fake nails and eyelashes… they can be tempting sometimes, but I see the price and say NO TY. Also I have three girls and would love to show them what’s more important than “beauty” that fades.

Great list. On #8 Rachel said frugal people never "Buy" pets. I have never bought a pet as in from a pet store; however, I have adopted many, and will gladly reimburse any costs, Veterinarian, boarding, etc. in the form of an adoption fee. These fees help support groups who find and care for unwanted animals, something I also support through gifts and donations.

Absolutely! Our first dog was a very pricey purebred GSD. He was wonderful and I miss him dearly. I felt he was the best dog to have around in that stage of our life because my husband used to travel a lot. He passed away a few years ago. Shortly after we adopted a rescue puppy. For $120, the rescue paid for all her initial shots, spay, and microchip. It was the best way to go and we adore our quirky mutt.

My husband is in residency and we have 2 kids in college and 2 at home still in grade school. We never go out to eat. We buy groceries. We watch movies at home. We don't have pets. We don't buy junk food. We don't dry clean (yet), I mend clothes, and we only shop for necessities, not wants. It's a season that will last a few more years until we are out of debt, but we can see the sun on the horizon!

My library system sells used books, magazines, CDs and DVDs that are no longer in circulation or are donated to the library for resell to benefit the library. Just got a 700-pg. biography (hardback, in like new condition) on T.E. Lawrence for a buck. I will pass it on to a friend to read when I am done and she will do likewise. I often just return the purchased books, etc. to resell again. I bring in books and magazines (like Discover Britain) from my collection for
resale also. Usually paperbacks are for sale for a quarter. I got a 1928 edition of a book written by Rodin on art. For a quarter. I also was lucky enough to have neighbors/friends who owned for many years the used and rare bookstore in our neighborhood. Was gifted with gorgeous art books and history books many times. Heaven!

Here's how to eat out (occasionally) on a budget; purchase the main course and tap water only (no coffee, alcohol, salads, dessert, etc.). The mains are usually $18 where I live so two can eat out for $45 including the tax/tip.

I’m as cheap as they come, however not having a pet is unacceptable for me. My dog brings me joy every day, you can’t buy that anywhere. She also keeps me active, therefore keeping me from joining a gym which I refuse to do, a clear money saver. Having a dog also lowers the risk of my home being burglarized. I refuse to pay for a Smartphone, cable tv, getting my nails done, new cars warranties and bottle water as well. I bought a stainless steel Berkey water filter many years ago and filter all of our water for drinking, cooking, carrying with me. My four budget planned splurges are 1) my rescue dog, 2) my every 6-8 week $40.00 haircut and 3) our organic food for our health. For years I went to the beauty school for a cheap haircut but the cut was awful, so I put a good haircut into my budget. 4) I also buy a Best Buy total membership annual fee. I'm age 73 and I no longer have the ability to keep my Laptop and our TV's in good working order. Having this membership has saved me SO MUCH money in repairs, updates, new purchases and keeping the technology running.

Birthday cards are sweet and can be bought at the dollar store. Dreft is made for babies for a reason. Babies skin is very, very delicate. So your kids don’t have parties with their friends. Sad. That’s how kids bond at parties. Treat bags were the most fun to make. You keep being cheap with kids it may have the opposite effect of what your shooting for.

    • @leemat705
      @leemat705 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Birthday cards just end up in the garbage.. my husband and I are better at just telling each other how much we love each other, dreft is made with the same ingredients as the fragrance free detergent, and my son is only two years old.. he has his many cousins come over for his parties (they won’t remember these parties when they’re older) and goodie bags at parties are usually cheap toys from the dollar store that don’t last. The kids just want to play outside and eat cake and ice cream.. they don’t care for how much money or effort you put into it 😅
It’s not being cheap, it’s cutting things from your life that you can live without, and it saves money in the end.. I’d call that a win

Back in 1992, I moved out of the house and was on my own. I didn't have 2 dimes to rub together and I had this old Zenith radio that I snapped on and listened to an old AM radio station. There was this guy talking that had used debt to fuel his real estate empire. He was the youngest licensed real estate agent in the state of Tennessee when this happened. Apparently the bank he had this financed through got sold to "huge gigantic bank" and they saw this 26-year-old kid with millions in debt. They called in all of his notes, he couldn't pay them and had to declare bankruptcy and drive a 1978 Cadillac with the vinyl top flapping in the breeze. I decided I wouldn't do that and didn't. I don't remember the guy's name off-hand but I think this girl is kin to him. GREAT VIDEO!

Now it’s a little on the steep side …..we’re talking about being frugal lol but in the long run, it’ll save you money and all that buggy lugging, going back-and-forth with water because liquid is very heavy to carry and all of those plastic bottles you have to recycle. Well, it’s true.. when we replace fence boards, we use screws instead of nails.

I won’t pay for lawn care; foo-foo coffee drinks; food delivery; home-cleaning service; new vehicles; designer clothing, jewelry, or handbags; and the latest technology. I might buy 1 physical book a year, but have started reading books on the Kindle app, using credits from Amazon’s delayed delivery program to pay for the books. I don’t have pets, but I love on the neighbor’s outdoor cats and chip in cat food to help feed them. No rent-to-own or buy here/pay here stuff, ever. Our vehicles are 13, 16, and 19 years old, all with 200,000 miles on them and well-maintained. When it’s time to replace one, we’ll buy used-probably 10 years old-since prices are so darn high on used cars right now.

I bought a digital antenna for $35 and cancelled the cable. I get all the local stations plus about 20 others and I watch you and other programs on TH-cam. Also, the added value between having a smart phone vs. the latest smart phone is night and day.

I have tried the antenna route with three separate antennas and none of them work! No channels come in. Any idea why? I would love to have a few channels

During COVID I stopped getting my Yorkie groomed. I bought the needed equipment and watched you tube videos. May not be perfect but I’m saving $75 every 6-8 weeks.

I never say never, each have taste occasions for it. But one thing that I haven't spent retail for is clothes. Since I started volunteering at charity op shop, never buy retail again. So much of good quality clothes being donated. Quite frequently designer labels as well.

    1. Rental fees for a modem / router. I bought a refurbished cable modem and a refurbished router, not going to give Xfinity $20 per month.
    2. Flagship phones, no phone is worth $1,300 when within a couple of years it will be obsolete. You can get mid-range devices that have a clean version of Android with no bloatware.
    3. Valet parking, who in their right mind would pay for valet parking at Aldi or Publix (we have two inside condo complexes that offer valet parking).
    4. Smoothies, I'll make my own.
    5. Almond milk, dairy and I have a love-hate relationship, I love dairy and dairy hates me. I make my own and it costs less than half the price of store-bought and has less artificial ingredients.
    5. Full price for streaming services, quite a few credit cards offer discounts and promotions on streaming services. Biggest one for that is American Express, $7 monthly credit for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ subscriptions of $9.99 or more, Hulu with ads and Disney+ with ads i pay $4.11 with tax after statement credit.

Won't buy a new car, things that aren't needed, anything that is high priced unless it is a treat, lawn services, expensive clothes, iphones, wasteful things. We don't buy an overabundance of stuff that ends up needing decluttered down the road.

I use the cleaners for 2 reasons.
Is have them remove stains that I'm unable to.
Once or twice a year I take husband's dress pants and shirts so a heavy press is done and I maintain them the rest of the year.
We have bought a new car once. It was great due to the fact we didn't have ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES. Had great gas mileage.
Purses OVER $50-100. I will try and find an outlet or a store that has them cheaper. In fact I bought 1 recently for $20; original $100.
There are a few more too.

BOXES! I refuse to buy boxes from Home Depot to move. You can hit up walmart around stocking time (about 7pm in my area) and they'll give you boxes FOR FREE. You're taking them off their hands. Call stores and see when their stocking time is and ask if they will give their boxes away for free. I never had any store turn me down.

I rarely go out to eat.
I need prescription sunglasses. Sometime ago at least 10 years ago I purchased a pair of dolce and Gabbana sunglasses which were really expensive. I've had the lenses replaced in them when I when they need to be and so I figure in the long run it wasn't a bad purchase because I haven't bought frames in a while.
I admit to being a tech nerd, so I do have a lot of new tech gadgets.
I don't have cable TV and I usually only have one streaming service at a time. I don't watch much TV so that's not where my money is spent I do buy audiobooks and books for my kindle, because reading is one of the things I love to do, but I also get a lot of books from the library and from Amazon's Kindle unlimited.
I started doing grocery pick up a lot because it keeps me from impulse buying in the grocery store.
