      Yes, it’s a solid machine. The majority of issues are created by aftermarket parts. Add a particle separator if you ride in dust, and keep an eye on the front driveline if your have a 2 seater. Everything else is solid on the machine.

    First off, I must say what an agonizing ordeal to go through. Rebuilding engines can be tedious work for some and a labor of love for others. I have found that the more challenging a build, the more one grows in knowledge and skills. This growth benefits the specific engine you're working on and all other engine types you rebuild or service. It's a continuous learning and improvement journey, and I'm sure many of us gearheads can relate. Thanks for the informative videos.
    Sincerely, Bob at Golden Eagle Mfg. 👍❤👊

    I have been following your channel from the beginning and have mirrored some parts of my machine to your original talon r. I took great interest in your horsepower upgrade. I run the Jr turbo kit and we are in Colorado now operating at 13000 ft daily. Thank you for the update I could have followed your footsteps very easily for more horsepower, I'll keep enjoying what I have. Again thanks for you channel and honesty.

    Sorry about your bad luck with this build. I liked watching your channel prior to the turbo build. I've already outlined what needs to be done in my previous comments. Ultimately you're doing R&D on your Talon. I've yet known of anyone that has bumped the power and torque to what you are claiming "reliably". Taking the car to a guy that can't figure why it isn't making enough boost and adjusting the waste gate to increase boost and not having the ability to adjust fuel and timing maps is a disaster waiting to happen (which it did) until you find the right people that knows how to build a high hp engine familiar with the Honda power plant and the ability to tune in house, this will keep happening. PPEI is not the one to blame, although they asked you to datalog for them and you expected that data logging session to be 100% full proof. It doesn't work like that in the real world. PPEI was just doing R&D with your support and you were expecting the same from them. What would you expect to happen to the trans when you double the hp? You want to bump big power with a turbo you will need to get down to 8 or 8.5:1 compression. You're complaining not being able to get 10.5:1 pistons, high compression on a forced induction application causes detonation aka grenading your engine, it isn't going to help your case. It'll just keep blowing up, maybe try running race fuel or E85. But ultimately you need ro work with a competent engine builder not some mechanics that know how to throw parts together and assemble an engine. There's a lot more knowledge required than just slapping parts together.

  • @vinceau911

    Anytime you build a motor for more power you must perform live tuning. Sending data logs to tune your custom built motor with trial and error tunes is a recipe for disaster. No matter who builds your engine or writes your tunes, too many things can go wrong aside from AFR, detonation and overboost will grenade your motor. Live tuning allows the tuner to see live data and lift off the throttle immediately if something isn't right. This nightmare won't stop building a motor like this. Jackson Racing has done their R&D for reliability while driving the car in different conditions. There's a reason why they don't have a kit that puts out 100% more power than OEM. When you get that deep into building a motor, porting, cams, valve springs, rods and a cylinder girdle should be used. The girdle will minimize the cylinders from blowing up. Check out the high HP turbo Hondas from the 90's that run big boost and power. Same power plant design. I just don't think your engine builder is an experience race engine builder, slapping parts on is not building an engine.

    I'm currently being tuned by Erik. Right now I'm making right around the 180whp mark that you are. On E85, and on a relatively conservative tune. Looking for 200 over the winter.
    So far, my experience with PPEI, and Erik specifically has been fantastic. He goes far above and beyond anything I would expect. Been building boosted cars my entire life, and have never had a tuner put in as much work as him. I've datalogged and received new flashes from Erik on a Friday night at 11pm before some races. Or all day Saturday and Sundays. Hands down, most responsive, and detailed tuner I've ever had, on any vehicle I've ever owned over the past 15 years.
    I cant speak to DRP, as I have not used their products, or services.
    I'm also at a low altitude, so I can't speak to that either.
    It's unfortunate what's happened to your Talon so far. It seems like a combination of issues that compounded into a major issue. Hopefully you can get everything resolved.

    I wonder how good the motor would be with all the upgrades minus the turbo. 10.5-1 compression is a little high for a turbo. I would say 9-1 would be about a perfect compression ratio for a turbo. 11-1 compression ratio normally aspirated would probably be pretty sweet as well. Put a little bigger cam and some head work, jet the carb and bigger fuel injectors and call it a day. You should prob see about 160-180 HP without the turbo and would be more reliable.

One party agreed to a $5000 settlement, then changed her mind when she realized there was a potential windfall of about $200k. After speaking with the lawyer she took the $5k and shut up. If the person breaking the agreement wants to battle it in court and they loose they'll be responsible for all the costs you incur in defending yourself. I've heard the same from a few lawyers.
      This isn't the 'typical' settlement agreement, but sorta. You incurred costs in taking the engine to them in exchange for them fixing it, had they not offered a free repair you probably wouldn't have taken it back. There's a few free legal help 'hotlines' where a lawyer can let you know for sure where you stand.

    Sorry for your bad luck, but you didn’t mention anything about what the AFR’s were at. If you just get in, turn the key, and mash on the gas, you deserve what you got. AFR’s are critical to monitor. I have been working with Erik on my build and tune for over a year now. He has been very knowledgeable and has been available nearly 24/7. I have been driving from sea level up to 7000 ft. He did send me a different tune for the high altitude which made it better. If your building a turbo’d car, why didn’t you put in 9:1 or 9.5:1 pistons when you changed them originally? You can run more boost safer that way. I am currently installing the 185 hp kit from PPEI with the Trinity exhaust. I watch the AFR’s more than any other gauge. I also wonder why you are the only one I have ever heard that has had to tighten up the JR head pipes at every 1000 miles? I have never had to touch them after the install. I have a feeling that if you go with any aftermarket tune/turbo kit and don’t pay attention to what the engine is doing, you will continue to have the same problems. Good Luck!

    • @gravesru
      @gravesru  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As I mentioned in the video, I did about 1500 miles of data logging for PPEI. As I also stated, this was supposed to be a finished product and it obviously isn’t. Erik would send me a flash and have me drive from 3k ft to 7k ft. After the engine died, it would go from lean to very lean once restarted. I have about 15,000 miles on a talon at elevation and without engine problems. The tune from PPEI does not correct properly for elevation. Every time it went lean, I had to limp it home carefully. It only takes a few seconds to burn up an engine, I wouldn’t have been able to do 1500 miles and 150 data logs if I wasn’t being careful and watching the AFR’s. Also, if you’re sold a finished product, it should work properly at elevation or anywhere for that matter.

    • @ken9846
      @ken9846 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you go higher, the engine naturally will go rich, not lean. Sounds like you had other issues going on. Maybe cracked intake boots?

    • @gravesru

      @@ken9846 the first month with PPEI, their tune would go lean when driving up in elevation. Then they changed things up and then it ran rich as I went up. They even had me put a PC5 on it to control the AFR’s and that didn’t work. Explain to me how jackson racing can send one tune to every single talon owner and it will work at any elevation and PPEI can’t? There are modifiers in the ecu making adjustments that PPEI is not aware of, and they can’t control. those modifiers are even adjusting the timing. With PPEI, the front cylinder will blow up while the rear cylinder stays perfect every time.

    • @palombax
      @palombax 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You really need to learn how engines work before you bash someone lol. Increase in elevation will result in LESS AIR. Meaning your going to run much richer. That will cause a loss in power sure. But won’t lean it out and get it hot. To state it’s one cylinder doing it only, lol that’s not tuning man. The ecu adjust both injectors the same. Along with ignition timing.

    I’m willing to bet your machine is loosing fuel pressure. Sending you lean and your engine to the moon.

      It was burning up because of a bad tune. It runs fine at any elevation with the jackson flash.

    I have personally worked with Chad and ppei for over two years anything that’s not released yes is understood beta testing. Sorry this happen to you but i hVe heard both sides of the story and they have a lot of differences. Erik has been nothing but amazing with me and my tunes and personally have the pistons that was in your machine in mine right. Your exact pistons you pulled out with the scuffing on them and i am running them no issues. Chad has been nothing. It helpful for me and helpful for parts. Kory i don’t know him personally or haven’t dealt with him much but can’t speak on that. I’m sorry this happen to you but also it’s very crucial to always look at the afrs for this reason. Shoot i do on my na tunes. Hope you get to riding soon and y’all get all this behind y’all.

      I do monitor AFR’s, I wouldn’t have been able to do over 150 data logs if I didn’t. You don’t have a problem because you don’t change 3-4K elevation in 30min. I was sold a finished product that wasn’t finished. I drove my machine on the same exact trails hundreds of times with the Jackson flash and didn’t have an issue. I don’t think it’s okay to say you’ll pay for a motor then blackmail me with a nda. I can tell you my story is 100% accurate and there are several people within the organization that can confirm it but declined being in the video. Chad shouldn’t have promoted and sold a build that wasn’t tested. For the first several weeks erik and Chad thought there was something wrong with my machine. I can provide you hundreds of screenshots from Chad, erik and Kory to confirm the truth.

      Also, i didn’t pull pistons, Dr Powersports did. I didn’t make that call.

      If I’m an idiot for doing over 100 data logs going from 3000ft to 7000ft at elevation before blowing up and engine, wouldn’t that make someone a mega idiot for blowing up an engine in a controlled environment on a dyno in a few minutes?

    You will most definitely win the lawsuit against them especially since they made a written contractual agreement via text saying they will cover the repair and shipping cost. Not you can also get back you me traveling expenses and recover court cost. By them wanting you to sign non-disclosure agreement it’s now going to cost them twice as much money since you didn’t agree with that. Please update us after everything is completed.

      This guy could destroy a wet dream! He has no business operating anything with an engine. He has zero common sense! I hope he loses everything, cuz you can’t fix stupid!
