    I can’t afford most of the products here, but I love to see it! You are good at repping affordable stuff too. I love your take on products, and your collabs.Every once in awhile I go for it….my first pair of Nick’s online right now 🎉 for instance. It is taking a year to pay for it, but because of you and your cohorts I listen to you and find where I fit. I hope you don’t stop being you. I looooove my Naked and Famous jeans and the company so much! I wish I could have an Iron Heart piece or Rogue. But I am content having fantastic quality (4 pairs of Jim Greens) from a great company and a piece that is a bit out of my league. Thanks so much Carl. I love this community.

    What sold me on Thursday was when I saw them in Reddit, responding to people and trying really hard to not just give great customer service, but to also make their product better. It's really nice to see someone from the company commenting and responding to customers with the genuine goal of getting better. However, I will say that they seem to be finding their place. I think they're starting to realize that they are the entry point into quality boots for a lot of people - sort of like Orient and Seiko for watchmaking. $200 is that perfect price point. It's typically more than what most people pay for shoes, but Thursday does a great job of justifying it. Then, once you experience their excellent product for that price point, you wonder what else is out there. I'm currently eyeing some Iron Rangers (of course lol).

    • @CoffeeWithCarl1
      @CoffeeWithCarl1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yes, exactly this! They occupy a wonderful and important segment which lets people see the benefit of well-made boots. Plus they certainly deserve credit for continually improving their products.

      Iron Rangers are great boots, however, I recommend saving up for a PNW boot such as nicks or whites. You can get the same look as Iron Rangers, but the quality is much superior and would last a lifetime. I started with Thursdays, then went IR, then went Nicks. I’ve sold off or given away my other boots because all I wear are Nicks. The comfort is far greater than a cheaper boot. Nicks Americana is the IR equivalent.

    Loving these videos Carl! Interesting to see a Thursday colab. That’s a good brand, they have modified and improved their models with year on year refresh. They own their factory now in Mexico, so looks like colabs and special editions will be more common. Honestly that $200 price point is a great sweet spot to get folks into better quality footwear. Get your bearings before you jump up to the high end brands or just enjoy your Thursdays.

    • @CoffeeWithCarl1

    I'm intrigued about your collaboration with Thursday. I credit them for introducing me into the world of boots. And since then, I've branched out to brands like Grant Stone, Parkhurst, and even Nicks. If your collab boot is built like Grant Stone, Parkhurst, Oak Street and all these other $350-500 brands and sell them for between $300-350, I would be very interested. Good luck!

    I would hesitate to recommend Iron & Resin, I've bought a lot of their stuff early in my interest in heritage clothes and have had so many issues with stitching quality, materials, and weird sizing choices. Anything that isn't made in the USA (a small amount of their stuff is made here) is made in Pakistan and I don't think they have the equipment to properly stitch heavier canvas. I've had so many seams come loose, one of their Cruiser jackets I had to return 3 times to get one where the stitching on the sleeve wasn't dismantling itself on arrival (it's also primarily single needle felled seams unlike other brands with double or triple needle stitching). Their 14.75 waxed cotton is so lightly waxed that water doesn't bead up when you spray it with a spray bottle. With the gigantic sales they do, maybe the stuff is worth it if it's not final sale (which it now is).

    Thanks Carl! Concerning Baker-type trousers, I feel Grease Point’s ‘Standard Jean’ in black really flies under the radar. Same standard as the rest of their offerings but more simply built with a price similar to Left Field. My vault soundtrack this week (that’s where the turntable is) showcases Gang of Four, Tom Waits, Jim Carroll and Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac.

  • @AKsourdough
    @AKsourdough 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    A lot of the Iron & Resin stuff is coming from Pakistan. Good quality materials and decent construction, but it definitely straddles the line between affordable and too much for a product from overseas.

    Isn’t that the whole point of free speech though? People are free to be nice, hateful, smart, dumb, pleasant, nasty or a myriad of other things as long as it doesn’t cross the line from speech to actual action. You maintaining a dialogue with the scummy people is a beautiful thing as far as I’m concerned, providing a counter point to them and then giving them a consequence for their actions. Keep it up as long as you can Carl!
    Really hope your collaborations continue to bear good fruit! Stuff costs what it costs, I don’t get to determine that. All I can determine is if the value of said goods aligns with my budget. I’m seriously considering taking the next step (pun intended) in my boot journey and going from my Iron Rangers to either Whites or Nicks. The CMP Sherman is definitely a great looking boot which muddies up my decision making even more.

    Left Field is in the neighborhood I grew up in, located in an old sweater factory. Ridgewood, Queens used to have a ton of clothing factories in the early to mid 1900s. Really cool shop, with a lot of east coast workwear artifacts on display. Coincidentally I’m going there next week to pick up done jeans my wife is getting me fir my birthday. If you ever do make it to left field, make sure to look up some of the vintage clothing shops in the area. Some really cool stuff

    Those Left Field pants look good. I bought two pairs of that style but in denim from Shockoe Atelier. I have worn them out. The front pocket style is nice for hand warming but the shallow pocket depth is tricky if you front carry a wallet etc. Stuff can easily fall out. I think it is time to grab a pair of those Left Field pants!

    Loving the new channel Carl! I’m sure you feel the suck sometimes of doing TH-cam in addition to your regular job. But I do sense that that financial independence gives you more objectivity than many other creators. It might be “memento mori” kicking in with Ash Wednesday and Lent approaching, but I’ve been really getting into Nick Cave lately. It took a lot of listens to unlock The Mercy Seat, but once it clicked, it clicked HARD! Masterpiece!

      @@freedomvan2970 Yes, from what I have seen recently. I've been watching his content consistently from the beginning. Particularly the sneaker reviews, paid sponsorship videos, and his Thursday boots review from a couple months ago was a pretty bad one (check the comments, majority of people were not happy with him). Overall, he's been inconsistent with his criticism of some brands over others. There also many other channels that do a better job with reviews in my opinion.

    I have seen Thursday boots raved about on TH-cam. I am a boot guy and some of my favorite videos you've done Carl are about boots. That being said I just don't like Thursday boots, aesthetically I just find them unappealing and it's the sole. The sole just looks cheap to me. The boot design is not bad, great price point it's just that sole.

    I own a couple of pairs of Left field Vidallia mills jeans. They're good. What picks my curiosity about this company is they're a little underrated. Not many TH-cam videos on Left Field. At least by them. They have this old cool black and white ad. Their stuff is made here in the states but I'm curious where, their shop in queens? Seems like it's just a store. But yeah Carl, definitely look into them. Kind of mysterious company,lol.

Your description was spot on! Haha. I have seen some cool plaid/flannel pieces from them but don’t have anything.
    Sorry to hear you got so much flack for the mouton workhorse. I thought 1000 for what you were getting was very affordable honestly even a steal when you consider it could be in place of a lot of parkas and way more durable.

    Hey Carl,
    Love this new series. I hear what you are saying about Whites new boot bleeding into Viberg territory. I actually think Oak Street Bootmaker makes a great service boot at a lower price point than Viberg, but still MIUSA. They have their trench boot with the blockier heel you called out, but they also have their Field boot which is 270 degree welted. I own a Field boot from them, and it’s fantastic. I think Viberg has a higher level of QC than Oak Street but the pair I own is a killer pair of boots. It’s also a good boot for wider/high volume feet like mine. Filson has a new service-like boot out as well which looks interesting. Keep up the good work!

    Regarding Star Wars, there was a great deal of issues. The first one felt like a TV special crossover mixed with a total reskin of A New Hope, and the third one felt like a hot mess that had to tie everything together. The middle movie, also very flawed, but had some of the best content between Kylo Ren and Rey. Probably the best thing that the new films did was the arc of Kylo Ren, and Adam Driver did an incredible job. Its hard to carry a Trilogy that flawed on one stellar character though

      Well to be fair, I'd go with a far more affordable workwear if thats what you need. Buying a $300 work shirt is like buying a $130,000 Land Rover to haul firewood.

    Well, reposting all of these erased all my old comments, so I'm not going through to watch them all again and try to recall what I had posted, BUT since I don't bother with Instygrame, if I AM being held up for public ridicule there, hopefully somebody will clue me in here. Unfortunately, I don't have much use for branded merch anymore AND I have tons of baseball hats already but trying to wear more wide-brimmed ones most of the time for the ear coverage sun protection and back the neck as well, which apart from generic look, IS chiefly missing from baseball caps. Of course, stylish-tically a bit is always the flat caps and such, which are overall less useful than the longer brim and all that but look much better with sport jackets and things.

      Can Thursday EVER get their sizing in order before they launch 300 more products???? A model with more leather proper stuff is intriguing, but do I must hafta buy four pairs to get the one that might fit?

    • @Highland_Paddy

      I hope your design would be more super-functional than Rose Anvil experimental zombie stuff... Honestly, I do find it difficult to explain to someone why they should spend twice as much for a different brand than Thursday if Thurs is kinda right up their alley. I mean, those Portland ones or whatever might be fine if you only need boots for a month in January and want to save fifty bucks???

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't say Thursday got me "into the Boot Game" since at the time the only ones I could get on AMZN were the Captains that I didn't really want in the ugly brown that I didn't really want, but they were leather and had mini lugs and they were a good Jumping Off point for what to look for in subsequent buys instead of nylon combat boots and such?

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Stolen Valor is this relatively new, mostly dumb concept, anyway. Surplus stores didn't exist for decades just to provide guys with emergency uniform items when they're off base and can't get to the PX. "Stealing" Valor wasn't even considered cool until after the SECOND Iraq War or something because all the counter-culture people all hated the military and wore uniform stuff as anti-military protest fashion or something and rock bands wanted to wear camo pants and combat boots at the US Festival or whatever for a couple years in the 80s and then everybody wanted crappy Doc Ms in the 90s, blah, blah. Most of the people running around wearing much actual army stuff now are just reenactors or hunters or hikers, etc. whereas the traditional army-theme stuff must be more popular with Hipsters instead?? But they cosplay as lumberjacks and whatever else, too, right?

  • @waxman830
    @waxman830 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Do not waste your hard earned cash on Thursday boots; they are cheap for a reason. Had a pair of loggers blow out several eyelets after maybe 8 hours of wear. Made cheaply and cheap leather, glue where it should be sewn etc. save a little longer and get some great boots, like some Truman’s, much better boots and way cooler. You can thank me later.

    Disney has sacrificed character development for the girl boss message and a ton of CGI camouflage, I guess hoping to distract the their predominantly male audience from their new message that it's all their fault.
