Lovely video, a sunset walk around the garrison is the perfect prelude to dinner and a few beers in The Mermaid. The Scillies are my favourite place, I try to get out there most summers. I was lucky enough to grow up in Cornwall and my dad was a light house keeper, on both the Bishop and Round Island, so our childhood family summer holidays were always a couple of weeks in the Scillies.
Thank you Nick, how wonderful to have enjoyed it as a child too! I think you never really leave the Isles as you always end up returning. I can't wait for my next stay.
Thanks Rob. A lovely wander around St Mary’s. I love the idea of a football league with no hope of promotion! Hopefully we’ll have some time on our cruise to visit some of what you’ve shown here.
For such a small Island it sure does have a lot going on, hopefully these videos have given you some insight. I got those books you Uncle wrote now, they're very good!
@@WalkingDevon I do hope you might gain some inspiration from them. His surviving children, my cousins and even his grandchildren don’t have any interest in building on them. All the original material was lost when the publisher went bust. I’m pretty certain that Don would welcome someone paying homage to some of his walks via a medium that wasn’t around when he died in 1995. During the war he was a member of the SOE.
I'll certainly try my best, it wont be this year as I already have plans for a series this year which will be revealed in the coming months but it may be next summer when I can go camping in Cornwall.
@@WalkingDevon it’s the sort of thing you could dip into from time to time. I’ve walked many of them in the last thirty or so years. My aunt’s still alive and 99 later next month.
Thank you. It does depend on if you like it busy or quiet, I like it quiet so I go off season. I like May or June as the wildflowers make everything just a little more picturesque. But watch out for the World Pilot Gig championships in early May as that's really busy. If you like birdwatching then I believe September is good for that. I shot this video in June but I've been in September and October camping on St Agnes and it's still pretty warm. If the weather is bad though it's really bad as the wind blows right across the Islands, it's very exposed in the Atlantic but can miss some of the rain as there's not much land for cloud formation.

Fascinating video. I learned quite a few new things. Many thanks.
Thanks for watching, glad it was helpful!
