Thank you sir so much for these videos. Perfect timing as I am on a project that is requiring me to learn the 'curves', 'curved shapes' and surface workbenches and your training is spot on. Been viewing and re- viewing them ad-nauseum to pound them into the old noggin! On a fixed income so can't send a lot but will do what I can after payday tomorrow afternoon... please keep up the info. You are a treasure to the freecad community🏆
This is such a moral boosting comment thank you. I have been going through a low patch at the moment with a family member passing and waking up to comments like this has made my day. I am really glad that my videos have helped.
Thanks for posting these, it is helping me get the hang of the curves workbench. I don't understand something in this video -- why does where the edge starts matter? I would have thought if the chamfer goes all the way around it shouldn't matter. If I run into a problem making a fillet, how do I know whether or where to split an edge?
Thank you for the comments, glad you are enjoying them. Great to hear how people are getting in. There's plenty of videos in the making and I have lots of ideas so loads more to come
Thanks you for that work !!! I just played with my own logo and tryied to place dots on a splitcurve but I'm not able to achieve that chamfer or fillet on it ...
Chamfer and fillet are notorious difficult in all cad packages. You have to be careful of the fillet depth especially if your face tapers to a point. Also when you have two fillets joing at a point can causes issues. I am working on a video regarding them types of problems but it normally means reducing the fillet size until it takes are using a sweep with a profile to follow the edge to remove the material that you need (like what you would do with a wood router). Fillets can be multi width so tapering to a second measurement.
excellent video again. Hey i was wondering if you know if there is any way to assign a design status (in work, approved, obsolete...) of a part in freecad ?
Sorry I think you ask this before but I couldn't find the comment to reply to. There is a comment field on the project if you click on the project icon on the left hand side in the tree view and look at the data tab. You have comment, company, created by etc. This can be populated here and also if you go to the file menu then project information you can add some details in there. Also you could use draft workbench, annotation menu, text which allows you to create a text object to drop into your body. Then you can change the text on the data tab. It's a work around but it works as you can have text objects for anything groups, body etc
I see you are using ShotCut. I tried using it but found it difficult to get on with. KdenLive is about the best Open Source video editor I have come across. Might make life a bit easier for you? P.S. Good vid! I haven't really tinkered with this workbench yet, but it may be on the cards in the not too distant future. Thanks!
Thanks for the comment and glad you are enjoying the videos. I was previously using Openshot and have icky just started using Shotcut as Openshot is very very basic and doesn't have anything like ripple edits. I will take a look at Kden thanks for the heads up.
I am trying ths with a similar letter J. I use split curve an get another point. If I double click on the join curve, I can move the point but it does not stay on the line. I floats around. I can position near the curve and then, when I double click on join curve again, it jumps back onto the curve but not where I want. If I try to make a fillet it fails with BrepApi.... I tried on two computers. fillet 0.1. I can only get it to work if I make a sketch in Part design ut then it works even if I don't use split curve. Freecad 0.21

I decided to learn the Curves Workbench commands. I've watched 3 of your videos so far and I love your videos. Thank you for your sharing.
Thank you for the kind comments. So glad your finding them useful.

Your video is very rich in term of knowledge.... I really appreciate and I have learned a lot.
Thanks and keep going!

Díky!
It was a great tutorial. Can you please do a tutorial on car designing from scratch using blueprints in FreeCAD?
Glad you like. I am planning to make that tutorial, it will be good fun 😁
