    1. There was a gif I saw on tumble that featured Rick getting piled on by those walkers and he’s holding an ice cream cone so now I can’t unsee it whenever I watch the ep

If the cops did get scratched, they most likely would've been fine bc maggie gets scratched later on in the show, and she was completely fine. The season was like 10 years after this episode came out, tho, so they could've just accidentally retconed it without knowing.

I thought it was a matter of introducing infected bodily fluids into the bloodstream. It might be a matter of how much of a viral load they contracted, though obviously it wouldn’t take much. Of course, there’s also the matter that whatever it is that makes people come back, they all already have it, so who knows?
Maybe “Wildfire” started as an airborne strain that turned everyone alive into asymptomatic carriers until the point of death, then mutated into a quickly lethal variant spread by bites and scratches from infected in order to maximize its spread and chances at survival?
Most viruses mutate into less-lethal strains in order to avoid killing all available hosts and “burning themselves out” though, so something like what we see on the show would likely have been deliberately engineered to be the way it is.

I always interpreted Rick suggesting that scratches caused the police to turn as a reminder to the audience that he carries the weight of knowing that everyone is infected/able to turn without being bitten, but isn’t ready to share that knowledge yet with the group. To me the doubtful silence following eludes to Shane suspecting that Rick isn’t convinced by his explanation, or is hiding something - which he would have a good sense for after working so long as Deputies together.

My own head canon would be that as the days that passed became longer and longer due to the looming starvation and the canned goods the two cops had on hand got lesser and lesser.
One of them thought, in their starved delusion, that it was okay to eat walker flesh if you cook it long enough over a strong flame as they watched the bodies they burned turn into charred remains.
They easily convinced the other cop of their plan and together they captured and cooked pieces of a fresh-looking walker for dinner or lunch. Their stomachs were finally filled and they were content.
Not knowing they wouldn't make it to the next day as the infection took over their bodies overnight. Resulting in their relatively clean clothes and unharmed bodies.

They only "saved" him because he got impaled on a spike and Rick was still too much of a softie to let him die. However, come season 3 onwards he would've gutted him in a heartbeat especially after the info about what his group (and probably he also) did to those girls. Shane was right to off him. The 2 cops may have died because of dehydration. You have an expectatios of 1 week (at best) of survival withouth water, so maybe the cops where at the fences when everything went south inside the building and with the noise more walkers approached to the place, making it impossible to go over the fences to space. After that, they may have been hidden in one of the cars until their dead. If not, their deads are extrange because a shot to the head would have been the most quick way to do it, but if that was the case they woudnt have reuturne.

The civilians all stayed inside while the two cops stayed outside somewhere else because they figured, we have guns and we dont want people accidentally shooting each other or making a grab for ours so we will stay outside and patrol, so when someone died of natural causes, this caused a panic in the main building but the doors being locked caused a frenzy which got the civilians killed, i also believed because they used all their gas burning bodies and as a sense of duty, didn't leave the area since the nearest place to scavenge was too far being so remote, eventually ran out of food and decided a painless and non-traumatic way of killing themselves was some sort of poison, i believe in the "non traumatic" way of doing it since one cop looked way younger then his partner, maybe the older one didn't want to scar the younger cops last moments of life, they believed they wouldn't come back but did

I think I agree with the comments that say that they died from lack of water or a consumption of bad water. Mixed in with how hot it is in Georgia at the time, it would be safe to assume that they would need a lot of water/liquids to stay sane/alive. I can’t see any water bottles or canteens among the cans so it doesn’t look like they had anything to drink. Also, say they did drink from a river or something, it doesn’t look like they had anything to purify that water, so maybe they got sick/poisoned from something in that water.

For your next video, I suggest the On-The-Go Burger place in FTWD season 3, episode 14. Something about the place never made sense to me, having watched in season one how things broke down even before the zombies overran everything. The place looks frozen in time, with half eaten baskets of food on the tables and a zombie kid in the playground ballpit. The implication being that the place was open and operating normally up until the moment the world fell.
Which to me seemed unlikely, I mean for starters, the place would have likely closed at least a day or so before everything went bad. Afterall, who would show up to work at such a place when the news is spreading that the dead are rising, no minimum wage job would have employees that loyal. It wasn't being used for shelter like some of the other places you've covered, the doors weren't locked and not a single window was broken. With the exception of an overturned table, no evidence of looting or of a horde attack can be found.
The fact there's just the kid who was bitten and died in the playground area (assuming she didn't die in the ballpit) also didn't make sense, you'd think like the Waterpark it would be a trap other walkers would have wandered into over time. So are we to believe she was only bitten, managed to not be pursued further by whatever walker did it (as there were no corpses so it wasn't killed and it wasnt in there with her), and spent hours or even days hiding in the ballpit before dying of infection?
Was there no one else there with her, and if so where were they? As I mentioned there were no corpses lying around or even any dried blood pools, no indication anyone was viciously mauled or devoured. So many things about the place doesn't add up.

The walkers died over a period of seasons in a year. Most walkers are dressed in under and top shirts, that is to reduce the cost of make-up. I've actual paused and counted how many walkers are dressed in that style. A vast majority are. The characters running around in long hair and loose clothing. Little things add to the continuity.

    Nice video.
If you take suggestions, I would say to look at the farm that Rick and Morgan chased down a Kingdom Soldier to in S6 EP15.
Reason I suggest this is the walkers that are at the farm all appear fresh, meaning they most likely recently turned.
It such a small location it probably wouldn’t be a long video but by examining the walkers and their possible injuries, you could probably make a couple theories on what happened.

  • @winterfire1097

I absolutely love your theory and this right here should have been a Tales of the Walking Dead episode. Wouldn't it have been amazing to perhaps see the Cops hope they were keeping people alive. That the military would roll through and save them. That maybe they knew and grew up with the people they were guarding. How heartbreaking would it have been to see them deal with something like the prison in season 4 and having to put down perhaps a widow who made them treats at the station or a farmer who's harvest festival was always their favorite event to be at.
I personally wish the spin offs did some more of this environmental storytelling like NYC had all those signs and even a whole lotta footprints on the streets showing panic. But I wanted to see more. Perhaps more of how people tried to swim or take a boat off of Manhattan and were shot in the water as they tried. The military keeping them like a plague island. The Ones Who Live did have some nice dark storytelling in episode 4, Daryl somewhat too. But sadly none like the main show.
Idk if you've done this one but how about the "Sick inside, let them die." In season 5 when GREATM stumbles on the firetruck.

Because the perimeter and outer parts of the settlement- as well as the main building itself- lacks visible damage/signs of struggle I think that regardless of what happened it either happened at night or too fast for people to react.
The burnt bodies might hint towards some of the survivors having been bit- forcing the deputies to quarantine everyone while figuring out their next step- which instead backfired, leading to the complete annihilation of the group instead.
The deputies themselves are interesting too because not only do they lack any visible injuries/Cause of Death but they are also not wearing any duty belts, holsters, radios, vests and/or crowd control equipment which makes me think that however they passed they must have expected to, as opposed to being geared up and dying mid-fight.
    Either way, great video Ty!

Of the mysteries in this show, this is definitely one of them. The self-deletion via pills would be the most fitting in terms of lack of injuries, however as another commenter added, and by personal experience (my cousin once took a few too many headache pills), it really doesn't take a whole lot to spew it all back up. It certainly wouldn't be a simple, easy, and painless way to go that's for sure. That, and also given that this would've been early on and as you stated weeks into the outbreak already, I highly doubt there would have been enough meds on hand to be able to OD. I think, given the visuals, they most likely died of dehydration. It would make sense to see all the opened food, as you can be full, but still die of dehydration. It would also go to back another commenter that if they died of starvation, much like other walkers in the show, they would visually be very malnourished and skinny, whereas they look fairly healthy (minus the fact they are, y'know... undead).
My personal end theory, they died of dehydration, after locking up the walkers in the main building, and likely being unable to wander outside the compound to a lake or well.
I've really come to appreciate the visual and environmental storytelling of this universe over the years. At the start I recognized it, but I just didn't really understand or truly appreciate not only the work and effort put into it, but also storytelling itself outside of the groups and people that we know. That, and also people like you and the people in these comments sections that all might have slightly different theories and takes as to how or why something happened or was important, etc. but we typically all end up on one conclusion; we love this show.

  • @rijidernacht1157

Im assuming the guards either died of thirst or poisoned themselves.
They're not skinny enough to have starved and it doesnt seem like theyd be too scared to just... Leave.
Mightve been trapped by walkers around the fence and offed themselves with walkers inside due to an outbreak. Walkers couldve gotten around the parameter with the noise from people getting eaten/being turned.
I say thirst because with most of the walkers being inside and the guards being outside I'm assuming they couldn't get any water stored inside while being stuck outside.

Thanks for this video. I'm on a rewarch and the scratch danger and what happened at Rick's station does linger in my head a lot. In terms of TWD's own rules (Like many others) they could have easily retconned it. The first Walker we see (The little girl) comes at Rick quicker than any Walker we see after. At least any I can remember. As a fandom though, we naturally search for in universe anawers. I think Walker scratches can hurt and kill much like animal claws, like we see other Vampire and Zombie lore changed depending on story I don't think they turn people though. When it comes to the cops, I wouldn't rule out some sickness and starvation. I actually think, like a lot of the world after "The turn" at least some of the cops may have went for the least messy suicide they could have seeing how hopeless things were getting.
I enjoyed this very much. Great theories and got me thinking.

I'm glad to see so many still interested in the series, especially little parts of the early days in the show, like I still am.
A question I've really never found an answer for is how long was Eugine and Abraham on the road, they meet Rosita before finding Tara and Glen, and becoming my favourite 5 of the show.
But if it had been 10 months - a little over a year before the whole Woodbury arc, then a few more months before the governor came back, and a few days after the prison.
How did it take then about a year and a half to get from Texas - Georgia, or if it had only been a few weeks or months, what had Eugine been doing before Abraham and the journey to DC.
If somehow over these years of rewatching I missed some lines that were sooo obvious I'd feel soo dumb.
But I feel like people make timelines of Rick and the main groups timeline from the fall to present day, and just focus on the other character to the point they joined, never really digging into how and why it took so long for the Texas team to travel to Georgia

Heres my Theory. When the Evacuation center became overrun, the one Shane Killed Oits at which is close by this place. The few survivor's left and possibly those cops went here. The cops or someone else decided to try and find more survivors to bring here safety in numbers. And the fact that at first this place was safe. They had a lot people here at one time, unfortunately the survivor's where mainly people who weren't combat trained. This left the two cops as the only people really capable of taking care of the zone. A few others probably helped as well. Someone was already bitten but hid this fact. One night the the bitten survivored turned, and that was it. As for the cops trapped and seeing what the dead did to living, tbey opted out using some kind of medicine or chemicals.

Here's an alternative theory of mine. The deaths of the cops and the civilians happened Opposite.
The stress of protecting and providing for all the civilians caused tensions between the cops to build up until they broke into a fight that ended up with one killing the other.
Not knowing that death no matter the cause is what does it. Then while the killer was in shock, the dead one managed to bite the living one. And with walkers outside the fence as well as the two inside with them, the rest of the civilians retreated into the main building and closed themselves in. Locking out both the zombie cop and the bitten one until both were turned.
Then, during the night while everyone was sleeping after trying to figure things out, someone died during the night and started attacking the rest crammed in there with them. And with people panicking and the zombie cops outside, no one was able to escape the building and everyone died between being bitten and being trampled by everyone else trying to escape the dead.
Could add extra to the parallels between Shane and Rick. And a warning of how their fighting could cause the downfall of their entire group.

Some thing I did notice in this episode. The cops must have died recently, I say this because I observed their uniforms weren't that worn. I don't believe their were walkers outside the fence because none were present when our group arrived, and the fence was intact. Another thing I noticed was that the cops still had ammunition on them because our group stripped them if their firearms along with their duty belts containing spare magazines. So I don't believe there was a big ire fight with the dead. Both cops apparently died at the same time as if they died separately one would have turned and gone after the other who in turn would have shot him or been bitten by him. So my guess is probably some type of poison ingested. Dehydration or heat stroke is another option, but then again in that type of situation they wouldn't have died at the same time. So I'm going with that they ingested poison or both got scratched and turned.

Once again you made another great video! Now those two cops were to reflect on Rick and Shane as you said but here the thing when Shane was pushed down on the ground were the cop car was there was a second one behind him so those two police officers had there own car or it could’ve been another cop who left to find his family but I feel bad what happened to those two cops and I’m sure they felt bad because they couldn’t save the civilians. You made a great point those cops burning the bodies because during the outbreak cops and military would burn the walker bodies to not to spread. I don’t understand why there wasn’t more cops at the Mert public works building and Rick should’ve search through the cop cars because one they might of have more weapons and two the police radios could’ve help the group and we seen how Shane search through the cop cars when he got the flairs to distract the walkers with Otis. Once again great on this video I gotta give this one a thumbs up like the other ones!

Thanks mate! Yeah there’s quite a few interesting details in this episode. Shane’s reflection is definitely meant to foreshadow his death, but also fits right in there with the “we are the walking dead” theme.

An often overlooked piece of environmental storytelling was in season 2. Possibly the darkest and most tragic (Idk if you covered this yet.)
Theodore Douglas or T-dog is injured and trying to scavenge anything that can help him and upon finding a box of cigarettes he looks in the back seat of a car, and to his horror he finds a baby seat covered in blood and viscera. It's unmistakable evidance that a walker got to a baby/toddler and well we've seen them rip into people with ruthless abandon. They would *not* hesitate to go after an innocent child.
Idk if this was a set error or maybe an intentional piece of storytelling but the blood still looked pretty fresh, possibly the walker herd in that area came out of the woods and swarmed the highway snarl. Adding to the numbers and likely the parent(s) died and maybe they "remembered" where there child was. Early on it was implied walkers kept small flashes of their past life and memories before Darabont was fired by amc. So if that was still the case then the child died to it's own parent(s) and damn recently just before Rick and the group caught up.
Whether or not that's what happened the net results is a dead child that suffered a horrible fate.

Since there's one can of food they might've fought to the death over it and neither won but I think irl the big dude would win 10/10 unless the little guy surprised him but there's no obvious signs of death so a suicide pact seems more likely

Like you said, this was before Rick dropped the “Everybody’s Infected” bomb so I think the scratches were a future plot point but it ended up getting trashed like various things we saw walkers do in Season 1: A walker picked up a doll and another one used a brick to break a glass door. They also climbed a fence and opened a door.

I feel like the most likely answer would have to be double s*ic*de because of a few reasons. 1: People dying of starvation wouldn't die at the excat same time as each other meaning one of them would have turned first and attacked the other but neither have any marks on them including 2: no visible scratches on either of them. For both of them to not be injured or covered in blo*d means they had to have died almost at the same time and not had any access to other infected or uninfected people.

I definitely don’t think scratches turn people. Everyone always tries to cite Big Tiny being scratched as him being infected but that was never confirmed, because the other characters thought he was bit, only the viewers know he was scratched.

Dehydration for the cop walkers. They aren’t emaciated enough to have starved but we don’t see any rain barrels out to catch water water bottles among the trash etc. I mean it makes the most sense to store their water in the building with how brutally hot Georgia is.
