  • You totally wanna make one!
Do you love to read? Or give books as gifts? Try making a crochet book sleeve cover for protecting your books and gifted books. They are super fun and super easy!
    Materials 🧶💙🧶
Worsted Weight Cotton (I used Capri Eco Cotton by Loops & Threads)
    4mm hook for Sleeve
    2-3mm hook for button latch
    Button
    Scissors
    Darning Needle
    Your Book
    Sizes 📏📖📏
I have created this book sleeve to be customizable to fit any book. I made 3 sizes which will cover the thickness of your books but you can also change the number of starting rows as well. In this tutorial I refer to the following sizes for my 8.25x5.5 inch books of varying thickness:
For the book sleeves features in this tutorial I chained 33 stitches to begin. You will chain the number of stitches needed for the height of your book. I did roughly 25-27 rows on the body of the sleeve depending on how the book is fitting.
Small - Base has 2 starting rows
Medium - Base has 4 starting rows
Large - Base has 6 starting rows
I did the row count for the base in even numbers so I always end up on the front side for the HDC round that sets us up to do the sleeve portion.

@@Naturellebooks That's awesome! I am still working on the first book lol. It would help if I only read one at at time haha. I do have another book tote pattern I am working on right now. It has handles that you will be able to attach to this sleeve. I should have it uploaded in a couple of weeks. Thanks!

If I were to do this in half double, would I still need to slip stitch? I’m really confused as to what a slip stitch is and why we slip stitch.

Hi Veni, a slip stitch is when you insert your hook, pull up a loop and then immediately pull that loop through the loop already on your hook.
I like to use slip stitches around the top edge of the sleeve. I think it looks nice and finished but also makes the edge stronger 💪.
Slip stitches around the top edge are optional and you can finish your sleeve with whatever border you like best. Thanks!

I just realized you might be asking about slip stitching when joining rounds. If you want you can work HDC in continuous rounds without joining as well. I have another tutorial where I do that very thing th-cam.com/video/U6a4xZPiUKk/w-d-xo.html

Just a question, How do you make it so that the stitches would be straight and not slanted? Btw love this video and thanks for the tutorial❤

Because im doing a white colored book sleeve that has black stripes

Hiya! Thank you, I am so happy you like it 💗 striping can be tricky on the color changes in the round. Maybe try doing the sleeve in continuous rounds like amigurumi and try a color changing trick for an invisible color change like this one. Hope this helps 📚❤️😁 th-cam.com/users/shortsBXdFOsB-WrU?feature=shared
