Billy literally saved my life when the stranger came out I was a miserable teen, and nearly every song and character seemed directly related to my life; big shot was my mother to a tee except for the cocaine Vienna was me I had to buy another album because I played it so much I wore a groove in it, it was so soothing!

Billy I play this song weekly as it gives me peace apart from it being a first class hit. It was great seeing you on some TV shows like American Restoration, hope the bike turned out good. All the best Peter from Australia.
I love the way that Billy and Peter Hewlett sing against each other in the chorus. Peter was an accomplished musician in his own right, and guitar player, even tho he only did vocals for Billy on his early 80's tours. I wish that you could see more of him at Last Play at Shea, and you can see him in the Wembley video but not as clearly. Love you Pete!

For years, I would hear this very song, and I couldn't tell if it was Billy singing the high notes or someone else. His voice sounds like it could be Billy Joel singing. This video confirmed that he was singing the chorus with someone.

First it was Pete, and then later Crystal Taliefero(The absolutely incredible African-American musician who has toured with Billy for almost 3 decades now). However, that sparked a rough patch for his vocals. He was getting a bit lazy and sloppy vocally. Also he had a few severe bouts of alcoholism during the 90s and up until after 9/11 that severely hindered his piano playing as well during live shows. However, on the bright side, he sobered up and around 2005 he resumed doing the falsetto in Innocent Man during live shows. I saw him in 2006 or 2007 and I hadn’t heard him sing the falsetto bits for Innocent Man since the mid 80s. And when he belted out the falsetto live, it sent chills up my spine. It was incredible. At his Best, his vocals are as good as anybody’s.
This reminds me so much of my childhood. My dad playing it on his car cassette player while driving to France from the UK. Me and my late little brother, and baby sister crammed into the back of car...suitcases at our feet . I miss my brother, and I miss the 80s...my favourite decade by far.

I have been a life long fan of Billy, having been introduced to his music as a child by my father. The year after Dad died I took Mum to see him at Old Trafford football ground. Both my parents are Man U fans and going to matches was part of their early relationship so it was a very special day, especially walking to the ground with Mum. When Billy came out he played Oh when the Saints and it really felt Dad was there with us too. We were then treated to a virtuoso performance from Billy and his amazing band, including this, my favourite song. Aside from my personal connection to his music and the location, as a musician and singer I remain in awe of his voice and skills as a songwriter and performer. It was the best, most accomplished concert I have ever seen.
