I have done this over the last 10 years, and it has paid for all the tools I need to do the cars I will keep later. I buy accident-damaged cars (minor damage). Over that time, I have averaged doubling my money. It is risky and have been burnt on one or two. It's a good feeling to bring something back to excellent condition instead of being scrapped.

were they repairable write offs or clean title? was looking at doing the same but don't you need a mechanic qualification to repair them?

@@anthonyforti7656 Just seen your comment, sorry for the late reply. I am in Western Australia each state or country has different regulations. But for here the cars were written off by the insurance companies. You only need to jave a certificate for airbag resets on the cats ECU/PDM. I jave to provide all documentation of parts replaced for the repair and if second hand parts are used the vin number from that car with a written receipt. List all stwps taken for the person inspecting the vehicle and as many photos as possible through out the repair. Major damage they would like to see all bare metal in an inspection if you haven't been through the process before. The sign a statutory declaration witnessed by a JP or any signatory to state you are responsible for all repairs. To inspect and road worthy is about 480 dollars. The licence on top of that to be road legal again.

I love seeing stuff like this where everyone benefits. The seller makes profit money and the buyer gets a good car and the environment benefits by keeping a car on the road rather than junking it for a new one. Win win all the way.

Lots of money to be made buying 2 strokes that need a rebuild, then flipping them for 2-3x what you paid after the simple rebuild. Too many people are too lazy or incompetent to do it themselves.

Great video, and nice to have a flipping video dedicated to the Aussie market as well. I have made 10 flips over the last few years, mostly Japanese cars, using similar techniques, although more recently I have cranked the risk levels up even higher and have been sourcing cheap old euro cars (strong warning: don't do this if you don't know what you're in for), old Beemers, Mercs etc. I'll typically spend 4-5 hours researching the right model to buy and will create my own mini buying guide (for example, not all X5's are made equal) and also have some mechanic mates who word me up on common issues. You learn how to weed out the bad ones over time. Totally agree that it takes some courage and risk appetite, but can be rewarding and genuinely enjoyable as a hobby if you take your time.

Very surprised to see your video pop up via the TH-cam algorithm - I remember you from the year below me at high school! I’ve bought and sold a few cars, made money on some, but most weren’t that type of deal and were for fun. The car I made the most on was imported from the US. As you said you have to know the market and the cars, buying a slightly different model which is less desirable or finding an unexpected issue can kill your profit. Anyway I’ve been wanting to get back into flipping imports (life gets in the way sometimes) and your video has given me a bit more motivation to do it! Great video. Glad to have found your channel, I've been doing this for the last decade or so. I love it - every part of the process is rewarding: I have become so good at getting cars for way under asking price now. Similarly, I could sell snow to an Eskimo. The real joy is in working on the car, making it as clean as possible and my mechanical skills are always improving.
My current car: 2003 Ford BA Fairmont, Mercury silver, pacemaker ph4495s, high flow cat, 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust with hotdog centre, straight through rear muffler. Seller was asking 3500 and had only had it up for a day. I turned up, inspected the car, took it for a test drive - offered the seller 1500 and when he said "no, I can't do that" I was like "ok, no worries mate. Have a good one." started walking to my gf's car to leave. Seller: "would you do $1600?"
I couldn't get the cash out my pocket fast enough. It has brand new discs, pads, rear shocks, sparkplugs and coil packs. Has an aftermarket headunit and clarion 5x7 3ways in the doors/parcel shelves. Drives better than any BA I've ever owned (and I've had a few). Everything works, ice cold climate control... and had almost a year's rego on it.
I would feel bad for swindling the old dude I bought it from but there are no friends in business.

Like the Mazda 323 there is a massive market out there for normal old cars that were everywhere in our youth and now just disappeared from the roads. Surprisingly punters are sentimental about cars that aren't your typical desirable motors such as old Fords and Holdens. Especially old Japanese stuff like the Mazda as parts are still around. They can keep up with traffic and are cheap and easy to work on.

I said well.. can I buy it? he sold it to me for 6k and well, i had it for a while it was clean.. so beautiful just stock nothing else, but I needed the cash so I sold for it $10k.. so four grand profit, mind you this was back in the daaay.. 10-12 years ago but yeah wins a win lmao honest sale tbh I still miss that car.

George, nice video. Most people do not have that attention to detail and vision of what a clean car should look like, once finished. It takes work and lots of it, detailing brush, micro fibre clothes, detergents, polishes etc to bring it back. We don’t really descriminate with cars man. Anything we know we can flip after analysing the potential of how it will come up,, we will dabble with and flip.
As you said,,,,, having a solid understanding of the market is paramount and also weighing up the risk/ reward regarding how much time, effort and money you will be putting in depending on the condition of the vehicle.
The more you can do,,, the more money you save.
The only stuff I’ve gotta farm out to other people is auto electrical and trimming as a general rule.
Best flip so far would be an xe s pack My brother and I got for $1500.

My son purchased HSV from Lloyds auction in Melbourne, site unseen. Description and the videos showed it was in mint condition. He paid top dollar for it and I flew down the Melbourne picked it up and as the biggest Lot of shit out. He never get anywhere near his money back. I told him what price to bid and he got excited and went way over what I told him to do. I'm pretty sure they'll swap parts. The guy selling it had it serviced just before you sold it. Both battery terminals were loose and the battery clamp was loose and of course the battery was farked. But there is a receipt in the glove box for battery which was pretty new. Very disappointed I used to be able to trust an auction, well here in Brisbane. I'm pretty sure it said it came with all the log books but it had the case with some of the books but not the logbook.
