    Might be a bit of a stretch but I find that the rubber casing on the omnicharge ultimate is more than enough to keep the battery plugged in tightly. The indentations on the model itself allow the rubber to keep the battery securely locked in. So give or take leaving the battery unscrewed for an easy swap isnt a horrible idea.

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a tight fit, I’ll give it that.
      Maybe I’m just paranoid, but I like to know it’s locked in place securely when I’m out on shoots. It only takes one accident!
      But 6x screws is certainly overkill 😅
      If they’d created some sort of quick release latch/button that would have made it truly hot swappable. It’s a bit of a process at the moment and can’t exactly be done on the fly!

    Feedback: as a bit longer than I would have enjoyed. I did watch the whole segment though. BIG A+ Positive on the script and knowledge! Understanding of the brand and product is what I came here for and it helped me in discerning which one to pick because I will say that was a bit confusing from just Amazon. I recommend that each battery had its own dedicated video.

    Great video, thank you! I just got the new iPad Pro M4 1TB. I need a portable power bank/hub for transferring and backing up 4K scuba diving footage. I am thinking of getting the 20c model. They also have the 40c model that is somewhat large in size. What is your recommendation?
    Cheers

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ohhh, good question. To be honest I haven’t tested the hub function with either model transferring directly to an iOS device, so I’m not 100% on their compatibility. How are you planning on transferring your data from the camera to the iPad? Is it via USB on the camera or via SD card (etc). Some further details would help.
      Of the two, the omni 40C+ is more likely to be compatible, as it’s much newer with more up-to-date specs. It’s better and more versatile all round in my opinion, if you’re not planning on flying with it.
      The manual doesn’t give a clear answer, so let me see if I can replicate your setup over the next few days with our (standard) iPad to see if it works.
      Here’s a review I did recently on the 40C+ if you’re keen to learn more:

      Thanks so much for your prompt response. Your video on 40c+ was also great!👌
      Yes, I usually fly for scuba diving purposes when I need to use a hub/power bank and thus, 40c+ model won’t work for me.
      I have a power bank and a hub now (i.e., 2 separate devices) and having both of them in one device would be a great option. 👍
      I will be transferring 4K video files from my camera SD card to an external SSD drive and my iPad Pro itself for back up and viewing purposes. I also use the hub for transferring files between different hard drives through a windows laptop.
      I am concerned with iOS compatibility and transfer speed of 20c since it is an older model. I wonder if Omni is coming up with a new version of 20c given the current model was released in 2018 or 2019.
      Cheers

    Good review, only thing is:
    1) Wish you'd gone through a complicated set-up, as in through charging with menu settings on one of the units
    2) The Omni 20+ does have HVDC, but the Ultimate does not have HVDC (you stated it did). I talked to the team, they said it was unnecessary because the Omni 20 has a 'modified square wave' whereas the Ultimate is a 'pure sine wave'. This is a shame, because not only is it much more efficient (more battery life), but the AC on the Ultimate is extremely noisy (RF), so much so I can't power many things with it without shutdowns (blackmagic camera for instance). There are many videos on youtube demonstrating this.

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James,
      Thank you for your insights, I was thinking of doing a follow up to this video with the batteries in use in a practical setting, so I may do as you suggested.
      Also thank you for catching that correction Re: the HVDC. That was a mistake on my part.

    • @JamesBailey123
      @JamesBailey123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CreativePathFilms Great, and thanks for replying to all the comments on your videos.
      With the AC, there isn't too much noise on the actual line itself (if you plug an oscilloscope into the terminals), but if there is a USB cable placed anywhere near it, it will pick up huge interference. So when I plug it into my BMPCC 6k, it powers the camera fine, but the SSD drive immediately disconnects and won't reconnect. There's a video on youtube of someone trying to power their TV with it, but it can't lock on to any channels when powered by the ultimate.
      Extra bonus points if you try shielding it in aluminium foil tape or using cables with a ferrite coil on the end of them (greatly reduces interference)

      It's got protective circuitry, so likely it will give you an over-voltage warning, then shut down the device. But using any charging method that exceeds the recommended input voltage isn't the best idea and may ultimately damage the device.

    • @CreativePathFilms

      I know what you mean, the charger for the Omni ultimate in particular is quite cumbersome. The Omni 20 charger is fairly compact, which I like.
      That’s why I appreciate that they can all be charged via USB-C, which opens up a number of options with chargers I would be taking anyway. In a pinch if I have to pack really light, I’ve gotten away with charging them off a regular 5v phone charger and a USB-A to USB-C cable. It takes a lot longer to charge, but it works and it keeps the profile way down.

    what's the difference between modified sine wave and pure sine wave. These power banks have different AC sine waves and you don't mention this after 25min.

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi George,
      Yes you're correct, it was something that was missed when I was putting this video together, so that's on me for not being aware of that distinction between the models at the time. That being said, I believe that it wasn't publicised in the specs that the omni 20's use a modified sine wave until the most recent website update. Their current product manual still omits this distinction. It was actually a viewer who got in contact Omnicharge directly, who first brought this difference to my attention.
      To answer your question, pure sine wave is theoretically better overall and is more appropriate for highly sensitive electronics.
      That being said, it has been reported that the Omni Ultimate has quite a "noisy" inverter that produces a fair amount of electronic interference, which can create some issues in some circumstances. Most notably when trying to simultaneously use the AC port with either the USB-A or USB-C ports, it has been reported that the electrical interference from the inverter can cause usability issues. Omnicharge even added a note about this in their latest manual. I don't currently have access to an EMF meter, nor have I tested this practically to determine how limiting the interference is.
      Practically, I have found us using the omni 20's more frequently than the ultimate for AC use. But this mostly due to the the size and weight of the units and partly due to the physical limitations of the recessed EU port on the 240v model of the ultimate.
      To date, I have not encountered any issues with using the modified sine wave of the Omni 20's. We've used their AC port to power small lighting fixtures, sound recorders, laptops (both via the AC port with a power brick, as well as via the DC barrel directly), battery chargers, camping equipment and various other devices with no issues to date.
      I found this link useful, if you would like to learn more.
      www.wiltronics.com.au/wiltronics-knowledge-base/pure-vs-modified-sine-wave-inverter-which-should-you-buy/#:~:text=In%20pure%20sine%20wave%20inverters,switches%20from%20positive%20to%20negative.&text=If%20there%20isn't%20an,can%20use%20a%20modified%20inverter.

    • @CreativePathFilms

      I would presume, only if can limit or control the input wattage in some way. Without knowing the spec of the panel, it’s hard to say. If it had usb-c PD output, then possibly. If it’s just providing unregulated 60w DC, then I would say no, that’ll be too much input for the battery to be able to accept and you may damage the battery or cause it to shutoff the charging by inputting too much current.

    Would the ultimate version work well with the super fast charge feature of Samsung phones?

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question, the omni ultimate should be theoretically capable of drawing both the 25w (super charge v1) and 45w (v2.0) as it can draw up to a maximum of 60w (20v/3A).
      However, I can’t confirm if the ultimate supports PPS, which is required for the 45w charging to work. I can’t find any further info on this.
      So if you’re happy with 25w charging, you should be fine (9v3a is a standard PD profile), but 45w charging I can’t confirm. I don’t have any Samsung phones, so I can’t give you an absolutely definitive answer. I’d suggest doing a bit more research if you need 45w before committing. 😊

    Have you experienced noise, coming from the AC charging port when in use? It sounds like static, electrical noise. It doesn't sound safe for sensitive electronics. Arching isn't good for any electronics

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, yes we have.
      I am not an electrical engineer, but from my research it appears to be quite common for a DC inverters to produce a noise, as they generate “harmonics” as a byproduct when when creating the sine wave AC.
      We’ve never encountered any observable electrical issues from using the AC port, but the noise can be annoying and a bit unpleasant!
      I can confirm the hum/noise is present on all the AC omnicharge models we have, as well as some other DC battery inverters we have which are designed for our Einstein photography flash units. These are built for purpose and still produce the same noise. I hope that helps reassure you somewhat.

      The Omni Ultimate has 4 programmable DC values that it will save and store, so yes you can setup multiple volt/amp values and it will save each of them. Note that the maximum amperage is reduced the higher your voltage is set, to keep it within the max 150w range.

    Interested with the Omni Ultimate but can't find any information about it's solar capabilities. Any ideas?

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it’s a tricky one, there’s very little literature on the solar charging capabilities.
      Once upon a time omnicharge produced their own portable 20w solar panels for charging the omni 20’s on the go. I think they’ve been discontinued for a while though.
      The omnicharge units are pretty forgiving with their input voltages, as long as you don’t exceed the maximums.
      So I would assume that as long as the panel offers a dc input of no greater than 90w (5-25v up to 4.5a) it should be fine with the unit. From memory, I think they advertised that they were compatible with a range of panels. This was years ago mind you.
      However, I don’t like making assumptions when it comes to electronics, so I’ve put in a support ticket posing some questions.
      If you have anything specific you’d like me to ask, please let me know :)
      Edit: I though I should mention I don’t own any portable panels and don’t have any first hand experience with solar charging the units.

Though it looks like panels with an unregulated DC output port will be the most efficient option. Hope that's the answer you were looking for!

      Thank you!
      The omni 20+ is probably the best bet, as the omni ultimate has a recessed c-type socket I believe, so you’d probably need an adapter or different plug end.
      You can also buy DC cables to pair with specific laptop models. You can then dial in your specific laptop voltage and bypass the AC all together. Don’t know if they do one for dell laptops, but it’s worth a poke around their website to have a look at the options, and do some further research to make sure you get the one that fits your specific needs.

      Okay, so I finally found our OG apple usb-c charger for our 2021 iPad.
      I recharged the iPads battery by 10% using each method (in this order) and here were my findings. The charger was the fastest method of recharging the iPad by a margin.
      Charger: 26 minutes
      Omni mobile (usb-a quick charge): 41.5 minutes
      Omni mobile (usb-c PD): 1h 11 minutes
      The fact that it was faster to charge with usb a as opposed to usb c really surprised me!
      So overall the charger is faster than the battery.

    Why u can't fly with Omni Ultimate? You can fly with power bank to maximum 160wh?!

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you are correct. I perhaps should have been more specific in the video. From my understanding (and it can vary airline to airline, country to country) I believe you can fly up to 160wh if you apply for and can gain airline approval for the battery. In terms of being able to walk onto a plane without having to go through that process and gain the necessary paperwork, most airlines restrict passengers to 100wh or under. At least this is the case in Australia and the US.

  • @slideout9857
    @slideout9857 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    cannot fly with the Ultimate?

    • @CreativePathFilms
      @CreativePathFilms  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 142Wh generally no. The standard limit for batteries with airline travel is generally under 100wh.
      In Australia you can apply to get approval for devices up to 160wh but it’s a bit of a process. So it may be possible, but it’s going to be a pain.
      If you want something you can travel with pain-free, the omni 20 series are the ones to look at. They come in at 73wh.
      But with any battery, it’s always best to check your specific airlines policies before travelling.

    Watched the whole video. I wondering when the review starts. I don't like how you use the word "review" in your title, in this context it is misleading to put it mildly.
    This, in fact was not a review, but a fluff unpaid (yeah right) overview of Omni's complete line of products.
    You didn't test the actual capacity against their advertised capacity. You didn't state anything that could be improved or anything remotely negative or criticizing at all.
    You didn't state how this product stacks up to other product compared to capacities.
    All of this was just marketing fluff.
    This was not a review. I wish you would change your title

      They’re all valid points that you’ve made, there are lots of ways this video could have been better. It was one of our first reviews so, I’ve learnt a lot since then. I think we had about 100 subscribers at the time, so omnicharge definitely paid us the big bucks for this one!! 🤣
      Please bare in mind, this isn’t a tech review channel, and the reviews/overviews I do are predominantly products that I use day to day in our work. Ones that I’m excited about, and that I feel could be valuable to our audience. We don’t get sent any random products or anything like that.
      This also isn’t what we do for a living. So at the end of the day I’m just another smuck on the internet trying to find his way in the world. I hope your day gets better from here 😊
