The price point was an issue for me but as the book is self published and printed on demand through Amazon, the price for colour printing is VERY high, so much so I literally only make a little over £3 per sale. I think your books are great! that isn't a lot of money from each print. I wonder if you might be able to go through a different company to get them printed in bulk for cheaper and then sell them on Amizon wilst having a better profit margin. I honestly thing the price point on most of them are not bad. Good job!
I have two of your books from the series, including the one first reviewed. I agree with video reviewer's assessment - an impressive, varied, collection. And I agree with Gabby's comment that the price point is reasonably for what you get. I bought one book (the one in the video) to see if I thought it was worth the $18.95. And because I was impressed with the quality, color, size, selection and the TIPS are great, I went ahead and bought another book in the series. I'm a book author (not of graphic design) and I'm published both independently and through the trades and I know that color is expensive - PERIOD. So you've done well on all counts - in terms of book content, presentation (wonderful) and business model. Congrats on a wonderful series. I recommend it highly. Yes, I also appreciate that you have racially diverse images for the people and body parts.
I love, love, love your channel. I haven't made a collage in over 55 years and you have brought me back that joy. Your creations are phenomenal and the collections, thought process and final results are awesome. These cut and collage books are pretty cool but I think part of the joy of collage making is searching for the perfect backgrounds and elements to create a picture. You are an absolute joy to listen to and watch.
yeah i also prefer to thrift my own books. i get mine mostly for free at the local recycling center or library sales for $1 each. so its not only cheap but you're reusing things. plus the hunt is part of the process. it lets you encounter images you might not ordinarily think of
I also own the first book & would love to see what you create! The one with the medical pics was so bizarre & strange that the pages were double sided…you’d waste a lot of images.
Great video. I too love the first book. The another negative to the one that had all the anatomy pictures is that it is double sided. I know when we use books or magazines we have that issue and have to make choices , but these books are designed to be cut out. I also think the first book used the spaces on the page well. The one book with all the words I agree the images weren’t as. Crisp, but they also had a lot of empty space that they could of included more images. More bang for your buck. I can’t wait to see what you create. You could do a whole mush room series, or maybe something with the anatomy ones near Halloween.
I agree. That, to me, is just a rip off. I'd send it back. Amazon needs to do a better showing of what is inside the books...at least a glimpse or two.
Using the first book wouldn’t be much of a challenge for you! You should use the weird medical anatomy and disease images and combine them with your particular style. Essentially use the images you don’t immediately gravitate to with the goal of eliciting a Rosie vibe collage nonetheless. That’s a challenge 😋
Excellent idea! Rosie clearly has a good eye for composition and contrast, and could easily turn those images from grotesque to beautiful (in a surreal way, of course).
This was really great, I always wondered about some of those books but not enough to buy them and find out that they weren't my style. Regarding those weird medical images, you could always use those like you do with buildings, but instead of cutting out the windows, cut out the intestines and replace them with flowers or images from the sea or a coral reef or maybe grow a vegetable garden in there.
I literally just opened my Amazon package of the first book. The paper quality and feel is lovely! No regrets. You picked such a wide variety of tastes to review! Great pace flip through. I have tried to use magazines or thrifted books, but it’s hit and Miss on finding them. Because of work and my time constraints, being able to order collage images is worth it to me. A few of the other books you reviewed were not for me, however the content of those is so unique I’m betting there are collagers who might find them worth the price. And getting the digital images is great as you can print those images multiple times and in the size you desire. I so appreciate you purchasing the variety and sharing them with us! ❤️

The others do not really interest me, but thanks for the reviews for them as well! I have a lot of the collage books for vintage and Victorian items I bought from Amazon for around $17 last year.

I have been trying junk journaling, mixed media art journaling and other things and so far haven't found my "groove" so maybe this is it.
I have the first book and love it. I use it a lot. I actually bought a 2nd copy of it. Thanks for sharing the others, it was good to see what is inside of them. Those kind of books can be pricey so a flip thru is so helpful.
I have that first book you showed, and have used that bathtub several times. I always put the image on my printer and can make it any size I want, thanks for sharing.

saw ur videos while cruising the internet. very informative on collage books. I acquired about 40 National Geo books from my library about 4 yrs. ago, they were free & sale was over with & they needed them out of the way. Put the box in garage & forgot them until I starting watching ur videos. Needless to say I started digging through them, wonderful pics! And u have given me so many ideas. THX YOU!
The spiritual book looked like someone cut out pictures in a magazine, layer them down and made copies of them and put them in a book. Loved the vintage botanical book

I could never justify buying books that spendy for collage, they are nice though. I would love to see you make a larger scale collage layout. I've got a large canvas sitting around and been jonesing to do something with it. Maybe you could inspire me 😀
I have the opposite problem with the Botanical book (I got it for Christmas). For what I want the illustrations for they a bit too big. I’ve found out that they do the same book with smaller images, so I’ll probably get that. I did like the look of the first book, I’d seen it on Amazon but it’s hard to judge these kind of books online. It was really helpful to see you share them, thank you.

Very interesting that you went through those books I was very disappointed in the copy of extraordinary things to Collage I brought as it was a different copy than what you’ve got I don’t know how you tell which copy you’re getting because all the covers look the same got mine on Amazon also.
QUESTION: Do you go by rule of thirds? Can you go over like how you go about composition and /or what ever other so called rules you use.? I love all your ideas. Since I found you I have been going collage crazy. I have not done surreal collage much cuz I always get stuck. THANKS LUV YA. I've used the 1st book for nearly a year, it's great as a back up if i can't find an image i want. also keep the one with the medical images for a gory halloween collage!! xx
Seems like for $20, one could get as many images buying tons of books at a library book sale. But I’m new to this, so maybe that is an easier way to have good quality quickly. Thank you for the work you do and it was very interesting to watch.
Not sure about the pattern on the backs of the pages in the botanical book. My thought is that pattern might show through after gluing. It's been many many years since I did collage and the text and printing on the backs of source images were always an issue. Back then there really weren't a lot of collected resources like this. My main source were old magazines from old book stores and thrift stores.
I think it would be more of a challenge for you to use the book least suited to your style to see what you come up with because there are so many great illustrations in the first choice that I imagine you, being so talented, could easily do many great pages using only that book. Thank you for the review. It helps us a lot to know what's out there.
i love the book with medical stuff. it would be great for commercial work such as t-shirts or album covers ;)) im sure the images in these are licensed as-well, or at least it should be

The problem with the books is that some of them only allow personal use. You can’t use them if you’re going to sell your work.
Is there a way to know that before you use it? What if you alter the image like only use part does that matter?

i love the book with medical stuff. it would be great for commercial work such as t-shirts or album covers ;)) im sure the images in these are licensed as-well, or at least it should be
